I flew on the 1st August with Aerlingus from Cork to Birmingham. As I was an unaccompanied passenger I thought that the airline was a pretty good one to choose. They checked on me throughout the flight to see if I was ok. The crew were lovely to everyone and when the flight was only delayed by about 5 minutes the captain explained to us why the flight was delayed. “I am Irish and have always had made a point of flying...”

I am Irish and have always had made a point of flying the "national carrier" whenever possible. But no longer. Aer Lingus is just too cumbersome, bureaucratic and not focused on customer service. Here is one of a number of examples I have experienced.

Aer Lingus does not accept unaccompanied minors. While I knew that at the time I booked the flight, Aer Lingus refused to provide a "gate pass" to allow me to take my young son to the gate. They originally said "it's TSA regulations", but after… Read Full Review

I have just recently flown Dublin-JFK with Aer Lingus and I have to say that the quality of this long haul service was a disgrace. The flights cost me 1,500 euros (for my wife and me) yet on boarding I found the plane to be pretty old and shhabby with uncomfortable seats. There was no personal entertainment system, all that was available was some romantic comedy on a communal screen situated ten feet from my seat. You must have traveled on an old aircraft....which have all been retired....give them another go just i from nyc on a state of the art 2month old airbus.......very nice....

I think Aer Ligus are the worst airline for constant delays, my flights have never been on time and the cabin crews have been disappointing. I flew a direct flight from LAX to Dublin and back. When I arrived at LAX, the terminal had experienced a major computer glitch a few hours before (not unusual), and there were people everywhere. Despite the stress and the angry travelers, the desk staff at Aer Lingus was friendly, attentive and clearly doing everything in their power to help the customers. I fly Air Lingus regularly, including transatlantic business (east coast USA) but only when I have no reasonable alternative, which is too often for my liking. Aircraft to the US are old, seats and attached equipment often malfunction. The seat cushioning has worn so it is often like sitting on a wooden board (tip: put folded blankets on seat). We ended up getting to the airport early and asked if they had room on the earlier flight if we could change, and were told that yes they had room but it would cost us quite a bit of money to change. Flying Heathrow - Belfast one of the newest Aer Lingus routes that started just this week. The fare was only £52 return so great value and much cheaper than Bmi.
