“We have been holidaying abroad for over thirty years,...”

Written on: 26/08/2007 by Johnh2007 (2 reviews written)

We have been holidaying abroad for over thirty years, but, until August 2007, we hadn't traveled with Thomas Cook before.
We will NEVER travel with them again!
We had booked with them months before we flew. Our tickets had arrived a few days before the holiday and we just carried on packing as normal the evening before departure. When checking everything was in order, we noticed that their baggage limit was a miserly 15kgs as everywhere else is 20kg! As a normal adult suitcase holds about… Read Full Review

There logo "Obsessed with Customer Service" is a complete joke. I have used Thomas Cook four times but will never use them again. They are clearly obsessed with the bottom line and couldn't care a hoot about customer service… Read Full Review

Written on: 26/07/2007 by delswell (1 review written)

Went to Ayia Napa in Cyprus in June07, booked through Thomas Cook staying at the Nestor Hotel. When we arrived we were informed that there was a fault with the baggage hold and luggage would be forwarded to our hotel that evening or next morning at the latest - "Guaranteed".

Whilst sceptical about this there was nothing else we could do, especially as Thomas Cook staff made it clear that they had completed their job by informing us of this.

Luggage eventually took 3 full days to reach us… Read Full Review

People in the shop were very nice. we booked two days before and the staff were very helpful with finding airport parking and currency. During our stay, I had to have medical treatment for an infected bite. They were very nice and refunded our money for a trip we could not attend with out hassle. Over all I was very pleased with Thomas Cook and would travel with them again… Read Full Review

“Travelled in May to Majorca with Thomas Cook. ”

Written on: 06/06/2007 by mintygit (2 reviews written)

Travelled in May to Majorca with Thomas Cook.

When we arrived at the hotel we were told by the hotel reception staff that they were overbooked and we had to go over to their sister hotel. No Thomas Cook rep had travelled with us on the coach, so we had nobody to help us out, I believe the rep did not come with us on the coach because they knew this would happen.

There were no contact details for Thomas Cook in the hotel so we could not phone anyone, the hotel staff knew of no contacts.

On… Read Full Review

“We booked our holiday over the Thomas Cook website....”

Written on: 22/05/2007 by AlisonS (2 reviews written)

We booked our holiday over the Thomas Cook website. Our flight times were not great but the flight left on time. We were greeted at the airport by a really friendly lady who explained that the transfer would take three hours but we had read this on the holiday information.

We were left at the hotel and the two brothers who owned it showed us to our rooms, which were basic but clean. The next morning we did go to the welcome meeting and booked some excursions.

We went on three excursions… Read Full Review

Poor communication, shoddy treatment of customers, poor customer service when trying to contact the call centre, breaking promises made in replying to queries. I will post a review of the actual holiday upon our return that will include the outbound flights, on board service and comfort, transfer to resort, accommodation and return flights… Read Full Review

Written on: 21/04/2007 by S CONWAY (1 review written)

Two out of four of our group has been ill after travelling from Manchester to the Dominican Republic on a new Thomas Cook aircraft. I would like to know if this is a coincidence or have more passengers had health problems? Problems can occur up to 2 months later. Many people on the aircraft were standing in the aisle in order to get some relief from the tight cramped seats. We booked… Read Full Review

Written on: 10/04/2007 by Phonebook (2 reviews written)

We booked a city break in Budapest, Hungary, through Thomas Cook. We usually always book our holidays ourselves on the internet, which includes googling a lot in order to make an informed decision and also read about our destination on books, articles and review websites. No disappointments SO FAR...until we booked the holiday with Thomas Cook. This time we decided to go through a travel's agent because we did not want to (and literally did not have the time to) do all that work ourselves (the… Read Full Review

It has been a total nightmare dealing with Thomas Cook, right from the moment we walked in the Sittard office. I regret ever booking with them and will never do so in the future. Wendy tried her best to rectify the mistakes of her colleagues in Sittard. Her service helped to make up for the many problems we had with Thomas Cook… Read Full Review

Written on: 26/03/2007 by JAMES CRABTREE (1 review written)

This was our first holiday with Thomas Cook and our first visit to Corfu, I really thought that we would enjoy the holiday that we had worked so hard for and so looking forward to. The same hotel worker actually made other people's holidays unpleasant by listening to what people were discussing. He would cut in and give his unwelcome opinions. When people informed me of their experiences I always asked them to inform the rep but their answer would always be, I don't want to appear as a moaner… Read Full Review

I booked a holiday in Oct 2006 for Oct 2007 for the family of 7, paid a deposit and received a confirmation letter, everything great so far.
I then received a letter from Thomas Cook four months later saying that the rooms in the apartment we booked were an error on their part and we would have to pay extra for the one we originally wanted, I said absolutely not as it was their error. To cut a long story short here we are 8 days later with a monumental phone bill and lots of stress having to… Read Full Review

Written on: 03/03/2007 by ROY ADLINGTON (1 review written)

They have not returned my letters of complaint. Even after I contacted ABTA. My Nile cruise was absolutely appalling in every way, with dirty cabins and terrible food. I found the kitchen on inspection covered in thick greasy grime, lack of staff, no choice of menu and also very small portions. The Thomas Cook boats are well past their sell-by date, and most definitely not five star - more like three star. I'm still fighting them five months after my so-called holiday in September 2006. I'm in… Read Full Review

Written on: 28/02/2007 by salix (1 review written)

We booked online with Thomas Cook. The price jumped by £30, without drawing my attention to the fact, during the booking process and the booking confirmation sent through the post was an extra £30 higher again. The amount of time, effort and emails it took to sort this simple problem out was ridiculous. I was looking, in addition, for the price to be reduced to that applicable at the time they made the correction, which was quite a bit lower, but they obviously didn't have enough interest in… Read Full Review

Written on: 02/02/2007 by Pedro21 (1 review written)

We were all really excited when we first booked, we had a great deal with an exceptional online discount. Its understandable that sometimes things go wrong and flights must be be cancelled but we were not offered a suitable replacement. So when we tried to get things sorted, Thomas Cook seemed to turn against us. The call center service I experienced on all occasions was appalling, the staff were rude and seemed to not care less, which they probably don't but when you work in Customer Service… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/01/2007 by behr (2 reviews written)

11 Hours cramped into the smallest aircraft seat in the world, reading an article by their CEO about how they are obsessed with customer service. I have contacted Mr Novoa, the CEO and he assures me that the seats comply with industry standards. I wonder if the seats are the absolute minimum allowed, in fact they would have to be because it wouldn't be possible to make them any smaller. He assures me that for an extra charge we could have booked more leg room. When I paid for my ticket I… Read Full Review

Grahamh's Response to behr's Review

Written on: 26/01/2007

I find Thomas Cooke to be the best travel agent at High Street level. The general package I get is good value for money; particularly if you negotiate a deal. However, I agree with behr about the Thomas Cook plane seats. They are the tightest I have flown with, and I've flown a few. I did pay £50 for an upgrade to Florida last year, and the difference in seat and service was exceptional.

S Conway's Response to behr's Review

Written on: 21/04/2007

Two out of four of our group has been ill with chest pains after travelling from Manchester to the Dominican Republic on a new Thomas Cook aircraft. Many people were standing in the aisle in order to get some relief from the tight cramped seats. We booked extra leg room near the doors but we still sat like a cork in a bottle due to the seat width. People were obviously distressed, so they stood up, some came and stood in front of us pretending to wait for the toilet.

Susie2201's Response to behr's Review

Written on: 06/02/2007

I couldn't agree more. I've just used Thomas Cook to travel to The Gambia - never again. The airplane was like being seated in a sardine tin. Fine if you are under 5ft 5ins, but a nightmare if much taller. Our plane was 3 hours late leaving Banjul due to "technical difficulties" that occurred on its flight from Gatwick to Banjul. One toilet stopped working, and as we were at the front close to the loo, we had queues of people next to us for much of the journey all trying to use one toilet. Never, ever will I book with Thomas Cook again. If you are travelling to The Gambia and want more room, book with Monarch. At least they provide Airbus A300 or A380, so you have more room.
