We have been holidaying abroad for over thirty years, but, until August 2007, we hadn't traveled with Thomas Cook before.
We will NEVER travel with them again!
We had booked with them months before we flew. Our tickets had arrived a few days before the holiday and we just carried on packing as normal the evening before departure. Went to Ayia Napa in Cyprus in June07, booked through Thomas Cook staying at the Nestor Hotel. When we arrived we were informed that there was a fault with the baggage hold and luggage would be forwarded to our hotel that evening or next morning at the latest - "Guaranteed".
Whilst sceptical about this there was nothing else we could do, especially as Thomas Cook staff made it clear that they had completed their job by informing us of this.

People in the shop were very nice. we booked two days before and the staff were very helpful with finding airport parking and currency. During our stay, I had to have medical treatment for an infected bite. They were very nice and refunded our money for a trip we could not attend with out hassle. Travelled in May to Majorca with Thomas Cook.
When we arrived at the hotel we were told by the hotel reception staff that they were overbooked and we had to go over to their sister hotel. No Thomas Cook rep had travelled with us on the coach, so we had nobody to help us out, I believe the rep did not come with us on the coach because they knew this would happen.
There were no contact details for Thomas Cook in the hotel so we could not phone anyone, the hotel staff knew of no contacts.

We booked our holiday over the Thomas Cook website. Our flight times were not great but the flight left on time. We were greeted at the airport by a really friendly lady who explained that the transfer would take three hours but we had read this on the holiday information.
We were left at the hotel and the two brothers who owned it showed us to our rooms, which were basic but clean. The next morning we did go to the welcome meeting and booked some excursions.

Two out of four of our group has been ill after travelling from Manchester to the Dominican Republic on a new Thomas Cook aircraft. I would like to know if this is a coincidence or have more passengers had health problems? Problems can occur up to 2 months later. This was our first holiday with Thomas Cook and our first visit to Corfu, I really thought that we would enjoy the holiday that we had worked so hard for and so looking forward to. I booked a holiday in Oct 2006 for Oct 2007 for the family of 7, paid a deposit and received a confirmation letter, everything great so far.

They have not returned my letters of complaint. Even after I contacted ABTA. My Nile cruise was absolutely appalling in every way, with dirty cabins and terrible food. I found the kitchen on inspection covered in thick greasy grime, lack of staff, no choice of menu and also very small portions. The Thomas Cook boats are well past their sell-by date, and most definitely not five star - more like three star. I'm still fighting them five months after my so-called holiday in September 2006. The price jumped by £30, without drawing my attention to the fact, during the booking process and the booking confirmation sent through the post was an extra £30 higher again. The amount of time, effort and emails it took to sort this simple problem out was ridiculous. We were all really excited when we first booked, we had a great deal with an exceptional online discount. Its understandable that sometimes things go wrong and flights must be be cancelled but we were not offered a suitable replacement. 11 Hours cramped into the smallest aircraft seat in the world, reading an article by their CEO about how they are obsessed with customer service. I have contacted Mr Novoa, the CEO and he assures me that the seats comply with industry standards.
