Written on: 26/03/2007 by JAMES CRABTREE (1 review written)

This was our first holiday with Thomas Cook and our first visit to Corfu, I really thought that we would enjoy the holiday that we had worked so hard for and so looking forward to. The same hotel worker actually made other people's holidays unpleasant by listening to what people were discussing. He would cut in and give his unwelcome opinions. When people informed me of their experiences I always asked them to inform the rep but their answer would always be, I don't want to appear as a moaner… Read Full Review

Written on: 06/03/2007 by zecatt (2 reviews written)

I booked a holiday in Oct 2006 for Oct 2007 for the family of 7, paid a deposit and received a confirmation letter, everything great so far.
I then received a letter from Thomas Cook four months later saying that the rooms in the apartment we booked were an error on their part and we would have to pay extra for the one we originally wanted, I said absolutely not as it was their error. To cut a long story short here we are 8 days later with a monumental phone bill and lots of stress having to… Read Full Review

Written on: 03/03/2007 by ROY ADLINGTON (1 review written)

They have not returned my letters of complaint. Even after I contacted ABTA. My Nile cruise was absolutely appalling in every way, with dirty cabins and terrible food. I found the kitchen on inspection covered in thick greasy grime, lack of staff, no choice of menu and also very small portions. The Thomas Cook boats are well past their sell-by date, and most definitely not five star - more like three star. I'm still fighting them five months after my so-called holiday in September 2006. I'm in… Read Full Review

Written on: 28/02/2007 by salix (1 review written)

We booked online with Thomas Cook. The price jumped by £30, without drawing my attention to the fact, during the booking process and the booking confirmation sent through the post was an extra £30 higher again. The amount of time, effort and emails it took to sort this simple problem out was ridiculous. I was looking, in addition, for the price to be reduced to that applicable at the time they made the correction, which was quite a bit lower, but they obviously didn't have enough interest in… Read Full Review

Written on: 02/02/2007 by Pedro21 (1 review written)

We were all really excited when we first booked, we had a great deal with an exceptional online discount. Its understandable that sometimes things go wrong and flights must be be cancelled but we were not offered a suitable replacement. So when we tried to get things sorted, Thomas Cook seemed to turn against us. The call center service I experienced on all occasions was appalling, the staff were rude and seemed to not care less, which they probably don't but when you work in Customer Service… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/01/2007 by behr (2 reviews written)

11 Hours cramped into the smallest aircraft seat in the world, reading an article by their CEO about how they are obsessed with customer service. I have contacted Mr Novoa, the CEO and he assures me that the seats comply with industry standards. I wonder if the seats are the absolute minimum allowed, in fact they would have to be because it wouldn't be possible to make them any smaller. He assures me that for an extra charge we could have booked more leg room. When I paid for my ticket I… Read Full Review

Grahamh's Response to behr's Review

I find Thomas Cooke to be the best travel agent at High Street level. The general package I get is good value for money; particularly if you negotiate a deal. However, I agree with behr about the Thomas Cook plane seats. They are the tightest I have flown with, and I've flown a few. I did pay £50 for an upgrade to Florida last year, and the difference in seat and service was exceptional.

S Conway's Response to behr's Review

Written on: 21/04/2007

Two out of four of our group has been ill with chest pains after travelling from Manchester to the Dominican Republic on a new Thomas Cook aircraft. Many people were standing in the aisle in order to get some relief from the tight cramped seats. We booked extra leg room near the doors but we still sat like a cork in a bottle due to the seat width. People were obviously distressed, so they stood up, some came and stood in front of us pretending to wait for the toilet.

Susie2201's Response to behr's Review

Written on: 06/02/2007

I couldn't agree more. I've just used Thomas Cook to travel to The Gambia - never again. The airplane was like being seated in a sardine tin. Fine if you are under 5ft 5ins, but a nightmare if much taller. Our plane was 3 hours late leaving Banjul due to "technical difficulties" that occurred on its flight from Gatwick to Banjul. One toilet stopped working, and as we were at the front close to the loo, we had queues of people next to us for much of the journey all trying to use one toilet. Never, ever will I book with Thomas Cook again. If you are travelling to The Gambia and want more room, book with Monarch. At least they provide Airbus A300 or A380, so you have more room.

Written on: 02/12/2006 by jblackwell (1 review written)

The seating on the plane was very bad. I am 6 foot and the leg room was non-existent. People were standing up because it was so bad.

We were told at the Thomas Cook travel agency that the flight was 7 hours which we thought wasn't bad. It took about 8 hours on the way out but what they didn't care to tell you was, on the way back the flight stopped at another resort to pick up extra passengers. Therefore it was a 1.5 hour flight to the other resort, then 1.5 hours on the ground there, which… Read Full Review

I agree with the seat situation. Thomas Cook planes are the tightest, and they need to do something about it.

“They took my details as part of a booking enquiry....”

Written on: 14/11/2006 by howclough (1 review written)

They took my details as part of a booking enquiry. They asked me to go into the shop next day to confirm the booking, and to sign the credit card authorisation. I decided I could not travel and called Thomas Cook back within one business hour. They charged my credit card approximately £85 for a so-called 'cancellation fee' on a holiday I had not even confirmed! Their customer service department have since ignored my complaints for over three weeks… Read Full Review

Written on: 28/10/2006 by Mrs Evans (1 review written)

Oct 06 we took a holiday with Thomas Cook to Lanzarote it was the best holiday we've had. The Riu Paraiso is a fantastic resort, the pictures in the brochure looked nice but it was even better than we expected. The staff were lovely, the food was exceptional! When we booked the staff couldn't tell us much about it, I think perhaps they should find out more and perhaps send more people there as it really was worth every penny. We had every thing we could wish for including an all inclusive late… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/09/2006 by Katy Sambrook (2 reviews written)

Thomas Cook were happy to take £8,000 of my money when I booked a wedding abroad with them and paid for all the guests. They were not willing to accept that they had not advised me properly.

After booking the wedding details, my fiance and I went to visit Kefalonia to check out the venue. We were horrified to hear we had booked the last week in resort when everything was closing down and it was likely to be raining/stormy and was totally unsuitable. The accommodation was also miles away… Read Full Review

I actually work for Thomas cook. The information IS in the brochure, it is at the beginning of every resort offered. It is not the travel agents responsibly to advise on when to go, if you go into the store with a date in mind they can only recommend.<P>
Also, you SHOULD have read the booking conditions BEFORE signing on the booking form, Why part with £4000 without knowing all the facts. Also, the reason Airtours could offer it is because every tour operator has different allocations, we can only sell what is available to us. It is NOT as simple as just going on the internet like you say it is. We have now merged with Airtours too.. Lucky you.

I have recently booked at flight with Thomas Cook, and I'm due to fly in three days, but I still have no confirmation. I have called their customer service, and a young girl said she would call back. Written on: 28/07/2006 by miaowuk (2 reviews written)

I think our Thomas Cook rep was afraid of our apartment owners. We had an apartment for 3 people, but it was really only for 2, and they had put a bed in the kitchen! Everything else was for 2 (chairs, plates), and there were no curtains on the kitchen window. We asked for a change and he came back and said the room allocation was nothing to do with him, and then he avoided us for a week!… Read Full Review

We booked a package holiday with Thomas Cook for the first time (I normally book it all myself). We booked to go to Tunisia, and we were looking at a nice 3 star hotel with single beds, as there were 5 of us going, ages ranging from 68 to 13. We were told by our Thomas Cook agent that we would get the same quality going Allocation On Arrival, and if we were not happy with it we would be moved or upgraded. We arrived in Tunisia and went to find out which hotel we were at. We were told to get on… Read Full Review

I will not book with Thomas Cook again!! We are still waiting on acknowledgement that we have paid our deposit and for all our holiday details. We booked on the 20th of May and the deposit came out of our account on the 27th of May. We have called customer service twice. The first time we were hanging on for 15 minutes, and the second time we were hanging on for 20 minutes (when you attempt to book or pay your holiday, on a separate line, the phone is answered within seconds)! Written on: 20/06/2006 by HappyChappy (1 review written)

The staff in Thomas Cook Lisburn were lovely to deal with, and they were very helpful. It is just a shame about their foreign exchange rates. They have a large poster stating "best rate in town - no commission". I was sold Euro travellers cheques at a rate of 1.35, and the banks going rate was 1.43. I was charged commission apparently because I didn't buy a large enough amount. Then after being charged commission in Spain for cashing them, when I brought €450 back, I was offered a buy back… Read Full Review

Written on: 09/05/2006 by Monica Pedrosa (1 review written)

My partner and I have recently returned from a holiday to Tunisia with Thomas Cook. We are both very disappointed, to say the least, with the holiday, and will likely not purchase any holidays or flights through Thomas Cook ever again. If I was to rate the whole experience it would be 1/10 at best.

The flight to Tunisia was OK. We were directed to our bus. The Thomas Cook rep greeted us on the bus, where he proceeded to basically communicate like we were children and did not convey very much… Read Full Review

I have just returned from a wonderful week in Tunisia booked through Thomas Cook. The flights were on time, the crew were friendly and helpful, and the resort and hotel were both brilliant.
