“Terrible Customer Service”

We rented a VW Golf at Zurich Airport without any problems, the car was fairly new with very few miles on it. While driving in Northern Italy we had a flat tire. The spare was one of those temporary tires designed to drive 30 miles or less. We changed the tire without any problem and went on to our hotel. We called the number on the key tag. While most aspect were ok, I would urge anyone using this company to be aware that what they actually tell you does not always occur. Having booked the car at Bordeaux Airport, we signed for a full tank of petrol. The woman dealing with us suggested we do this as there were few fuel stations nearby. I hired a car from Belfast City airport. I agreed to the excess waiver, but after I returned back to England they sent me a copy of the invoice. They had also charged me £5 per day for a vehicle upgrade that I had not been asked if I wanted or I had not asked for. I mentioned on signing the agreement that I had brought the wrong glasses so could not read what I was signing. Beware of these (Europcar)! I rented a car at the airport in Cork and asked if I could return the car at any time, I said yes (had a drop box for the keys). The deposited at 3am. leaving the vehicle in your parking space, although he could deliver until 9:00 a.m.. that day. “NO HELP if rental car is unsafe to drive !”

I have discovered that if car is deemed unsafe to drive they do not respond to requests for advice or assistance /offer no call out service and the manager has no authority to refund rental fees even when you are forced on to public transport for four days! “ABYSMAL ADMINISTRATION AND DISHONEST PRACTISES”

I have been a regular customer at Gatwick Airport. Dishonesty is rife, from failing to allow you the level of service you are entitled to under their prestige scheme to being charged £1000 for a small mark on a car. After many months of battling with them I did receive revised invoices and a full refund for the alleged damage. “Dishonest Company”

I booked and paid for a vehicle on-line, I did not pick any additional extras, no Go-Zen extra insurances, yet when you pick the vehicle up at the rental desk they slipped the Go-Zen insurance into the rental agreement without any explanation etc. very deceitful and dishonest Company, I rent a vehicle from them for at least 70 days every year for the last 7 years, they might have screwed me out of 280 quid, but that will be the last hire they get out of me, PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR RENTAL… Read Full Review

We will never use Europcar again!

We flew into Liberia excited for our adventurous CR trip. We were taken to the place to get our car (10 mins away from the airport secluded) that we had ordered online. As we walked in the store the guy at the desk was on the phone for about 20 mins before waiting on us. As he hung up he took our IDs and got us started for getting the car. We were so excited to have arrived and couldn't wait to start our trip. We were chatting asking him places to go and see and you could tell he didn't want to talk just make some money. Within mins the guy quickly started off with numbers much higher than we paid online. On top of the initial rental fee deal we saw online they were asking to either increase our daily rate (basically means our rate we purchased online was null and void because it was in face NOT the rate we were getting the car for AND pay $3500 insurance to take the car. Yes THREE THOUSAND + dollars. He told us there was NO ONE else that would work with us and do for less than 3500 however after we insisted to be taken back to the airport there were many more options. We did have to put a hold for insurance of 2k which is still a lot but it was not 3500 and it was not with this company!!!

NEVER USE THEM!!!! THIS WAS THE WORST CAR RENTAL PLACE WE HAVE EVER USED!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Deceptive Business Practices”

After we returned our rental we were charged half again more than the guaranteed price. When we rented the car they would not allow us to decline the damage waiver without a written letter from our insurance company (which we did not have since we have never been asked for this before). I rented a car for 8 weeks from Manchester airport. To cut a very long story short. They delivered me a car with less than a full tank of fuel, charged me 1.36. GBP per day for license fee. The vehicle had nil licence fee when I checked the tax disc. When I contacted them by email they did not reply. I rented a BMW X3 from Europcar at the Lisbon airport. I returned it 3 wks later with a 2mmx2mm stone chip on the windscreen. I was pressed at the airport and was not able to speak to anyone about the cost of repair. Two weeks later I received a 650 euro charge for a windshield repair. “Do not rent from the Heathrow office”

Here's a list: over 2 hour wait in a room full of increasingly frustrated customers; 3 counters staffed at a time but at least 5 floor managers sitting around watching their overworked customer service agents get yelled at (the agents were all very friendly and professional though, so kudos to them); only 2 cars to choose from when I finally made it out to the lot, neither of which I wanted because they were too big (if you've ever driven on rural roads in England you know what I mean). “Lied and stole my money”

Booked a villa with car through Thompson in Portugal. Was sold the vignette but did not have it explained we then had to pay tolls on top!!! NOT EXPLAINED! Thought it was a one off payment similar to "Sun Shine" pass in Florida. Ended up with near 100 euros of tolls after we returned to UK!! Cairns office!! Shame on you, and also Melbourne office. Returned the car after a business trip of 2 days. “Stunned that a company could be so unprofessional”

With any large organisation things can, and do go wrong. What distinguishes one company from another then is not so much how often they get it right, but what they do to resolve an issue when things go wrong. To that end there are a generally accepted set of rules that most good customer service professionals advocate and abide by.
