“Terrible”

Written on: 03/07/2014 by Vaughn386 (1 review written)

I have been with the Halifax for over 15yrs. My current fixed rate deal came to an end and I called to re fix the deal. After nearly 3hrs the telephone consultant said all was OK and she would send me the declarations to sign. She also asked for our latest pay slips. All this was sent, and they lost it. Had to reorder everything and send again. Finally after a few more weeks we got a call to say that they were not willing to fix the mortgage with us any more and we would have to stay on… Read Full Review

“Telephone mortgage adviser abrupt.”

Written on: 27/06/2014 by JulianaKnight39 (1 review written)

I applied for a mortgage with Halifax over the phone. A person took all my details and was friendly and polite. Unfortunately though, I was passed onto another person as she was on a day off. This person was annoyed that some of my income details appeared to be wrong when I disputed the details she read back to me. She told me I'd given them the wrong information and said my application call with Cherie was too lengthy to listen to, to find out if it had been mis-understood. She was abrupt… Read Full Review

“Mortgage - Horrific Service”

Written on: 16/06/2014 by Nin9 (1 review written)

The Halifax has taken 6 and a half months to submit our mortgage offer. After initially giving us a Decision in Principle swiftly, actually getting anywhere with them afterwards is a harrowing story. This should have been a straightforward purchase on a property with NO CHAIN involved - but the inactivity, idleness and uncaring provided by the Halifax has made this one of the most frustrating and stressful periods I have ever encountered. My partner is self employed and they requested SA302… Read Full Review

“Unprofessional, slow, incompetent!!”

Written on: 13/06/2014

Received mortgage promise in Feb, it's now June and still no joy! Have payed halifax valuation, all seemed good to go, then 4 weeks ago they decreased my offer by nearly half! My broker has went back resent all my payslips and other requested info and they have came back with same figure. A figure which will not complete my extension! I am mortgage free and have 100 percent equity in property and they have decreased my offer. I have excellent credit, have 2 children and am single parent but… Read Full Review

“MOST INEFFICIENT. AVOID. WOULD NO RECOMMEND EVEN TO...”

Written on: 12/06/2014

We apply at mid March at bank. We received offer at 22nd April - thought " not so bad after 4.weeks" even though we were previously told that 2 weeks( we have 40% deposit and have good incomes). Then, everything started VERY WRONG. Our solicitor did not receive offer from bank after one week. We contacted bank, we were told that everything would be sent to our solicitor, no need to worry. Nothing happened for few days. Then, we were told to submit some more forms - like proof of… Read Full Review

“Manipulating ther indexed valuation on fixed deal renewal”

Written on: 06/06/2014 by AlexanderMilne (1 review written)

Halifax indexed valuation mysteriously reduced 5% from May 2014 to June 2014. This keeps me out of the 60% ltv threshold and bumping up my fixed rate deal by an extra 0.6% pa. Exactly the same thing happened 2 years ago and they squeezed another revaluation fee out of me. Not this time. Leopards don't change their spots and Halifax are always on the lookout to squeeze and squeeze more from their customers. Big problems on doing the supposedly simple online change, which surprisingly became… Read Full Review

“Brilliant, Fast and Reliable Service 10/10”

Written on: 03/06/2014 by Baileytb72 (1 review written)

It's a shame that Halifax have so many bad reviews and from what I can see it is only a minority. I for one had a brilliant service from our mortgage adviser, the pre application and full mortgage application was completed within 1 day as my wife and I had already looked at the houses that we wanted.

The application went through and was accepted whilst we were sitting in the bank. A few days later we received our full paperwork and were suggested a solicitor to use. If I ever had any

“Gifted deposit ”

Written on: 01/06/2014 by AlfredTerry (1 review written)

I brought a house in February, took out a Halifax mortgage though a broker. The mortgage is only in my name not my partners too, although he will be living there. My partners father gifted us £15,000 to put towards the house. He had to write a letter to confirm it is none refundable. Now 4 months down the line my solicitor just wanted Halifax to say they know about the 15,000 deposit off my future father in law, yet they will not do it! Even though they gave me a morgage offer! They are… Read Full Review

“Keep getting it wrong”

Written on: 30/05/2014 by denst (1 review written)

Hi we are now waiting for our mortgage offer to be sent out for third time, names, address and mortgage amounts have been wrong, we are dangerously close to being homeless due to Halifax's poor admin. And it took 6 weeks to come as they forgot to process it… Read Full Review

“Holding up our sale - slow and no info!”

Written on: 24/05/2014 by joeflower (3 reviews written)

We are selling our house & in a chain with a FTB borrowing through Halifax. Everything is being held up (after a nightmare of other delays) by Halifax who need to approve an updated lease. Most lenders take 4-7 days to do this. Halifax won't give a timeframe and has now had the lease for 11 working days (so over 2 weeks) and have provided no info or time frame on when they might approve it. We can't wait for weeks so are at risk of our sale falling through for a second time because of Halifax… Read Full Review

I applied for a new mortgage via broker to take the stress off us, as we thought. Sold our home and agreed a new one. Within days the valuation went through and offer out after a few days later. all that was required was my hubbys 3 months ps and a yr from me. Smooth and stress free...disaster struck and was gazumpted last min. Was told all was ok to change the offer no problem. Since then under the new MMR rules its been 1 thing after the other, summit more payslips, a week later credit… Read Full Review

“Efficient Fast Service - 10/10”

Written on: 22/05/2014 by MarcJames1987 (1 review written)

I was so impressed with the service that Halifax gave that I had to write this review today. I am a first time buyer and was in the process of buying my first property. I initially applied for a mortgage with NatWest Bank. After repeatedly requesting information and leaving me waiting for over 30 days, time was beginning to go against me. I have to note that this was a very stressful and worrying time as I thought that I would lose the property that had been reserved. I then had to go… Read Full Review

“Halifax have poor customer support and unclear products”

Written on: 03/05/2014 by RandyFitzgerald (1 review written)

We are coming to the end of our current mortgage term with Halifax and need to find another product. We found another Halifax product that met our needs and tried to contact Halifax with a view to remortgaging. Firstly, the only way to get any response on the phone after waiting for a completely unreasonable time was to raise a complaint. The complaint was dealt with by offering a small sum to compensate for the phone bill but then they would not transfer us to another adviser until we agreed… Read Full Review

“Very smooth and quick applicaiton”

Written on: 02/05/2014 by EricKelly (1 review written)

I read all of these reviews when I first applied for my mortgage and it scared the life out of me, I panicked the whole time thinking ours was going too smoothly to be true and kept expecting something bad to happen even right up to completion which was today. However we applied for our mortgage around 3-4 weeks ago through a broker, we got our decision in principle then put in the full application and came up as accepted providing the 3 wage slips and bank statements agreed what we had put… Read Full Review

“absoloute joke!”

Written on: 02/05/2014 by amandadale123 (1 review written)

had a fixed mortgage with Halifax from 2010 until 2014. sold our property and had to pay Halifax a further £3000 to get out of our mortgage deal. the buyers of our property were first time buyers also with Halifax. Halifax sent theyre surveyor to our property who devalued it by 12,000. the year before the very same surveyor valued it 15000 more than what we bought it for as we spent loads doing property up. this shook the sale but after persistence from both parties us the seller and the buyer… Read Full Review

“Absolute shocking”

Written on: 27/04/2014 by onDrake264 (1 review written)

Me and my partner are first time buyers we had a mortgage In principle for 140k with a 5% deposit. so we found the house we wanted which is only 95K. We put in the full application for them to say we will accept the application only on 10% deposit so my partners family are giving us the rest of the deposit for a gift to make up the 10%. We have been messed about so much it's untrue it's like there making excuses excuses excuses not to give us a mortgage they've told us our credit report is good… Read Full Review

“Slow and unprofessional”

Written on: 17/04/2014 by 25Greenwood (1 review written)

We are first time buyers with halifax and found our perfect property 7 weeks ago. We had a mortgage in principle with halifax and were keen to have our mortgage with halifax as they had the stamp duty deal. Unfortunately right from the word go they have been slow, hard to contact and generally unprofessional in my opinion. They lost our pay slips and personal details when they requested them and it took me two weeks to find out what they had done. Upon taking in more pay slips they then said… Read Full Review

“Just took to long to do anything”

Written on: 10/04/2014 by Welshpx207 (1 review written)

Positives: Good customer service Stamp duty offer Negatives: Long call waits to speak with someone (up to 30 minutes regularly) Income reference was a nightmare. My work did not help by refusing a some of the detail Halifax wanted. Then required proof of deposit sending to them. The best bit is my savings are with Halifax! Faxes were not always received and had to be sent multiple times. Can't send documents on email. I am pretty certain most lenders are similar so overall I can't be too… Read Full Review

These are so frustrating i thought you needed a qualification to be a mortgage accessor. We are stuck in a buytolet mortgage (fix rate) finished last October we now live in the property so trying to get a residential mortgage, my wife has run a limited company for the last few years, I work full time, all end of year accounts upto date, she has only filed 1 tax return which was last year as the inland revenue only requested this, so we have a SA302 form for that year but these clowns are… Read Full Review
