“Appaling reception service ”

Written on: 15/04/2013

Although i am not a member I got in contact 3 times with my local david lloyds. The first time I went there I was actually dissapointed by the look of the reception. Before going there and hearing how expensive and exclusive their gyms are, I was very dissapointed by the outdated old looking reception. My local council gym looks 100% better, their reception staff are really nice and helpfull and the membership is half the price. I got in contact with them few more times after and the staff at… Read Full Review

“Appalling customer service”

Written on: 11/04/2013 by emmaleighnixon (2 reviews written)

David Lloyd have no respect whatsoever for loyal customers. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. All was going well with our family membership until with no consultation they pulled all the 6pm classes for our 3/4 year old. Despite lots of complaints from existing customers and the classes being oversubscribed their pathetic argument was it was too 'excitable' for these children to be doing classes at 6pm. (More like too costly but they won't say that will They!)… Read Full Review

“very poor value for money”

Written on: 10/04/2013 by bdi123 (1 review written)

Brighton club entices you with the heavy salesman promises but beware once you sign up they have no membership consideration. Rude unhelpful staff - but they have your money. don't get me wrong its Lovely looking club with a nice swimming pool but its a sign up grabber. Every person that I know in the area has left this club with a similar grumble the staff are dreadful and make the whole place unpleasant. When you complain about the dirty showers or a piece of equipment broken their reply is… Read Full Review

“Bullying tactics used by David LLoyd gym”

Written on: 09/04/2013 by apple03 (2 reviews written)

Have enjoyed using the outside pool over the last four years. It was the only health club to have an outside pool (the other clubs that I looked at only had inside pools) so that is why I joined even though it was approximately twice the price of these other clubs. I explained this point at the time of my joining of my joining.. However, at no point during my signing up meeting, was it pointed out that even though I had taken full membership that David Lloyd would place such restrictions on the… Read Full Review

Have you had any progress with this?
I am in a similar position but I joined for the Tennis Courts told Access is first come first served if you call at 8 am you will get a court - no joy for months so complained only to be told the sell regular court slots to members - so they were never available to start with except from 9pm onwards - total joke.

“Money grabbing greed, and adding to misery”

Written on: 27/03/2013

I joined David Lloyd, Farnham and subseqentley had a leg injury at work. Would DLK accept this?... NO, they required doctors letter, my doctor charged £18 for the letter, then they said it wasn't produced in good time etc etc etc... The story goes on. If you have an injury and incapacitated or are made redundant from work, this is bad enough in a recession... David Lloyd will add to your woes by threatening court proceedings and setting debt collectors onto you. Never ever ever again will I… Read Full Review

I am not surprised as I had been a member for four years and finding that they had restricted the outside pool to such an extent that I can not now use it I tried to speak to someone at reception but they just toild me to write a letter which they will not even address instead passing me to their solicitor who is threatening me with court. There is no such thing as customer service their preference is to simply bully their clients. Obviously they think it is fair to change access to the facilities that you pay so much for so altering the whole nature of what you sign up for and guess what they don't explain that they will do this when you join up. They then expect you to pay 3 mpnths notice when I can't even get to use the pool and all this on a full membership tarriff. Obviously the fact that they have had over four years money is not enough they think they will then take you to court to make you pay for a facility that they then withdraw. I am disgusted with their attitude

“Hopeless useless dump”

Written on: 18/03/2013

Not happy.. I was a member of hatfield gym, the staff are very friendly but thats as good as it gets. The sauna is like the black hole of calcutta, the bulbs blow and it takes them months to replace them ( i think it was around 6 months the first time) the steam room often smells of urine, the jacoozi has a layer of black scum round the rim and for £80 pcm i expect the place to be faultless, i wouldnt mind if it was a cheeper 'back street' gym, but david lloyds is a big set up, and very… Read Full Review

“3 month notice penalty!”

Written on: 15/03/2013

David lloyds gyms are for people who like to concentrate on what they are doing and who likes their own space at the gym. I and my family (4 people) joined them ages back and we have only paid £150 a month, the facilities were AMAZING! However when my father sadly lost his job we were forced to cancel our memberships, and this is where the POOR customer service delt with us in appropriate way. Even tho my father claimed that he cannot afford to pay for the gym, they asked us to pay £450… Read Full Review

“David Lloyd Worthing West Sussex”

Written on: 14/03/2013 by Sittingbourness (1 review written)

What a Pity when the staff get trained to take your money they don't get trained on the basics of customer services. Went to query a membership break due to new baby on the way yet staff and sales managers so rude to me, I immediately changed my mind and demanded to cancel. Only to be told I was 10 days past my years cancellation date and had to pay another 3 months. Went in a happy customer left in utter disbelief and no chance my family or close friends will be joining again. Virgin here we… Read Full Review

“Ipswich DL”

Written on: 11/03/2013 by mark252071 (1 review written)

The disgusting customer service at David Lloyd is legendary. My wife and I both paid our membership fees a year up front by credit card to secure a discount. She had to cancel for medical reasons and so gave the months notice required by the contract. DL don't believe members who give notice for medical reasons and demand a confirmation letter from doctors. Because her Dr didn't produce the letter quickly enough, DL said the notice period would have to start from the beginning of the next month… Read Full Review

Hi, do you think it's unreasonable to expect a doctors note to prove an illness that stops you training? I'm sorry to hear that your wife had some medical problems, but suppose she was just trying to wangle out of her gym contract? As several thousand people must do at each gym every year.

Last time I checked DL was a legitimate business, looking to make money.

DL do conform to the OFT standards with their gym contracts (They are one of the few who do!) which actually only covers the length of time a contract can be for, not valid reasons for cancelling early.

“Poor service; money trap”

Written on: 09/03/2013

The website is very misleading. Some weeks they have no classes at all and the rest of the weeks all classes are hapenning on the same day which limits your attendance. Some of the listed activities do not exist at all. The personal trainers use hard sell techniques and do not show your even the basics on the gym equipment. The constant message is you need to pay for personal training. So if you are looking to use the gym and classes, you should look elsewhere… Read Full Review

Been a member at David Lloyd Swindon for just over a year - lots of problems with infrastructure and maintenance and unresponsive management. Have cancelled membership and even that is proving hard work - and will probably end up in court. “New Year's Eve disaster!”

Written on: 21/02/2013

I am very happy with the DL club I go to in Ringwood and think one gets value for money. However, I was more than disappointed with the way the New year's eve party was organised. Having been told by numerous friends to avoid eating at the David LLoyd I was prepared to give it a chance and so booked 2 tickets for NYE. The buffet was really not good at all. Firstly they ran out of the 2 only meats on offer Beef and Gammon so some guests went without! Secondly the person who carved the meat cut… Read Full Review

“DLL Milton Keynes”

Written on: 20/02/2013

Had been a member for a year and a half when I decided to quit. The deal-breaker was when I was informed, during my prospective contact with a rival gym, that the going rate for all the big boys in Milton Keynes (Virgin, Bannatyne’s, Fitness First, etc.) was £47 per month. I was paying £85 a month at DLL ! And that didn’t include use of the courts …. Or even use of another branch …. The final nail in the coffin though was when they cleared-out the gym upstairs – the only reason I… Read Full Review

“David LLoyd Club, Bushey - Had Enough - Cancelled”

Written on: 20/02/2013

I have been a member for David Lloyd Club in Bushey for over a decade and have visited less and less over the years as the facilities and customer service has deteriorated. I would describe many of the new group of younger staff there as having a poor service industry attitude where loyal members are no better off than they would be visiting their local authority pool, which is where I will taking my children from now on. Among the problems are the pool itself, which can be dangerous. It has… Read Full Review

I was a regular member at the Belfast branch of the club. Before signing the contract DLL told me that I will get 3 months free for signing the contract. However, I was billed from month 2.When I contacted DLL, I was told that contact the manager of DLL who signed the contract with me (he had left his job). I left DLL after 3 years. Still waiting for DLL to contact me for the reasons for leaving the club. When, I contacted voluntarly, The manager at the Belfast club was rude and ignorant… Read Full Review

“Appalling rip-off merchants (Edinburgh)”

Written on: 04/02/2013

After continual yearly price increases I elected to cancel my membership after seven years, feeling that the club did not offer value for money, adequete facilities, or sufficient investment in their equipment. They failed to notify me of the increas which would be charges as of 1st January and then, once cancelled threatened me with collections agencies when I cancelled the direct debit after the last payment due to them had been collected. When contested, they simply said 'well if you don't… Read Full Review
