“contemptuous treatment of members”

Do not join any DL Gym ! They are happy to charge extortionate fees but then treat you like dirt. My experiences at the Southampton club include removal of other peoples monies from my bank account, dirty gym & even dirtier changing rooms. TV screens not working, equipment lying around creating a hazard & ignored by gym staff as they stand around chatting. “Great club in Farnham”

I wanted to post something positive here as all the moaners seem to be adding comments. I had a great experience at Farnham... Great staff and a great PT in Matt. The club is brand new and has great facilities. Yes it's a 12 month contract but you know that at the start... Just like a mobile phone. The reception team are lovely and so are the spa therapists. “Dirty swimming pool ”

The swimming pool water at the Fulham Broadway branch is often quite dirty - with lots of suspended dirt in the water. It is often not possible to see from one side of the pool to the other, due to all the dirt (e.g. makeup, bodily fluids) in the water. Furthermore the water has a strangely unpleasant bitter taste. “Only want your money DO NOT JOIN ”

I paid up for a full 12 months, which has now ended, I injured my back in early Sept 12 so was unable to go, before this I was a regular user.. After a lengthy absence I got out of the routine, thinking well come end of May I won't bother renewing. To my amazement and anger I find out that I have to give 3 months notice, the best is they hide this away when you sign up and make no mention of it sneakily hiding it in the paperwork. Member for 21years. At the beginning privately owned great club. Now greedy, inconsiderate, intolerant Corporation. I had a discount at Finchley, when I purchased food with my children. Not a great deal , 15%. This was withdrawn when my membership card was lost. No more discount as I was not entitled to it. “Shocking company..shocking customer care”

I joined 1 year ago and decided to pay up front as I was not going to be in the area for very long. 11 months in I had the usual calls and emails asking if I wanted to carry on, to which I replied "no...this was only a temporary solution for me as I explained when I joined but thanks for calling". 1 month after my 12 month contract has expired I get a letter from a debt collector asking me for 99 pounds on a balance on 385.85. “Misleading information on renewal at point of sale -...”

We were told on renewing our membership last year that cancellation was one month's notice - this was said repeatedly by the member of staff who processed the renewal and we didn't notice that the paperwork said differently. Also, the cancellation period does not start until the NEXT calendar month AFTER the one in which you have written to cancel membership. “Never Again - Vile Company-its all about the money!!”

I joined David Lloyd Bromsgrove with my family in 2010 and paid an annual membership in advance. The facilities were good and the gym staff were excellent, but the facilities were not what we were led to believe in respect of the children, hence they rarely used the club. “I have never in my life been exposed to such appalling...”

I have never in my life been exposed to such appalling rudeness and lack of customer service. Not only was the Children's Activity Manager one of the most disrespectful people I have ever encountered, the entire experience was insulting. The service appalling and the staff rude. Couldn't agree more! Lazy, rude, incompetent staff. Courses for the kids that occur additional costs, run by teenage staff that have been poorly trained.

“MONEY WELL SPENT!!”

My wife and I retired last year and decided to join a good gym. We were already members of a local council-run health centre which was OK but lacked in 'pamper' facilities like a sauna, swimming pool, restaurant etc. So we spent a few days touring the entire Dartford/Gravesend/Bexley area, settling on David Lloyd Dartford as top of our shortlist. “Disgraceful management and customer service at Farnham”

Beware of this gym if you are planning pregnancy or fall pregnant and can't exercise... They will not make any allowances and ignore the clauses of the contract that you can apply, instead their line is they will only allow you to suspend your membership for up to 9 months but you have to continue to pay 25% of the monthly fee...for what exactly?! The suspension provision doesn't say it applies to pregnancy. They take at least three weeks to respond, are too busy to have a meeting or see you… Read Full Review

Beware do not join this gym unless you want to be disappointed. We have been members for a few years, great management staff......they left. Exposed an incompetent bully of a general manager. Changed their menu to dictate that you can only eat chick peas and lettuce, they added specials when it failed. When you asked for these there is never enough food in, if you are lucky to order a meal of choice it's hit and miss whether its edible. “Awful.. Totally lacking in customer service skills”

David Lloyd offers very little value for money and the customer service is appalling. My experience as a member was awful.. Needless to say I cancelled my membership counting down the days of the 3 months notice I had to give. This company lacks customer service skills. “Appaling reception service ”

Although i am not a member I got in contact 3 times with my local david lloyds. The first time I went there I was actually dissapointed by the look of the reception. Before going there and hearing how expensive and exclusive their gyms are, I was very dissapointed by the outdated old looking reception. David Lloyd have no respect whatsoever for loyal customers. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. All was going well with our family membership until with no consultation they pulled all the 6pm classes for our 3/4 year old. Despite lots of complaints from existing customers and the classes being oversubscribed their pathetic argument was it was too 'excitable' for these children to be doing classes at 6pm. Brighton club entices you with the heavy salesman promises but beware once you sign up they have no membership consideration. Rude unhelpful staff - but they have your money. don't get me wrong its Lovely looking club with a nice swimming pool but its a sign up grabber. Have enjoyed using the outside pool over the last four years.It was the only health club to have an outside pool (the other clubs that I looked at only had inside pools) so that is why I joined even though it was approximately twice the price of these other clubs. Have you had any progress with this?
I am in a similar position but I joined for the Tennis Courts told Access is first come first served if you call at 8 am you will get a court - no joy for months so complained only to be told the sell regular court slots to members - so they were never available to start with except from 9pm onwards - total joke.

“Money grabbing greed, and adding to misery”

I joined David Lloyd, Farnham and subseqentley had a leg injury at work. Would DLK accept this?... NO, they required doctors letter, my doctor charged £18 for the letter, then they said it wasn't produced in good time etc etc etc... The story goes on. If you have an injury and incapacitated or are made redundant from work, this is bad enough in a recession... I am not surprised as I had been a member for four years and finding that they had restricted the outside pool to such an extent that I can not now use it I tried to speak to someone at reception but they just toild me to write a letter which they will not even address instead passing me to their solicitor who is threatening me with court. There is no such thing as customer service their preference is to simply bully their clients. Obviously they think it is fair to change access to the facilities that you pay so much for so altering the whole nature of what you sign up for and guess what they don't explain that they will do this when you join up. They then expect you to pay 3 mpnths notice when I can't even get to use the pool and all this on a full membership tarriff. Obviously the fact that they have had over four years money is not enough they think they will then take you to court to make you pay for a facility that they then withdraw. I am disgusted with their attitude
