Great Headphones! I loved using them, even though I felt they were a little pricey (AUS$80). I used them for around 6 months before the rubber sheath protecting the wires began to split and deteriorate. Now it is a mess, and there are lots of exposed wire and very little protection from the elements ...

Just to add my voice to others - I owned a pair of these for less than 6 months before the wire casing disintegrated in several places. I've been wandering round with sellotaped wire for a while, but now I'm off to get some Shure's or Sennheiser's. Don't buy the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones unless you ...

I really like the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones, and they fit my requirements perfectly, which was to get a small pair of fairly discreet headphones for my iPod and laptop that sound significantly better than the iPod standard ones, and preferably sound nearer to one of my pairs of Beyer Dynamic headphon ...

Despite the shortcomings of the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones, upgrading to these from a previous Sony model was a vast improvement. The buds were actually comfortable, the sound much, much clearer, and a lot of sound previously unheard could be clearly made out. The initial lack of an audible background ...

The Sony MDR-EX71 headphones are very nice looking. They are also comfortable and the sound quality is good enough, but they are certainly not worth the hefty price tag! The outer casing is shoddy, and my outer casings have fallen to bits already, exposing the very thin wires.

Overall, these are probably the best ear phones I have ever owned. I accidentally left them in my workout pants one night, and my wife put the pants, with the ear buds in them, in the washer & and the drier!! But, besides the minor melting of the wires, THEY STILL WORK PERFECTLY!!!!
    Way to go Sony ...

I've had my Sony MDR-EX71 black set for over three years now without a single problem. I've just bought a white set for my new Zen Vision:M.

I found the Sony MDR-EX71 to be good, but fragile.

This MDR-EX71 earphone was great for a month but then failed. Sony are way over priced for what you get, $50 is way to much for this product. I found a generic that look exactly the same for ten dollars and sound just as good as the Sony's. So why buy the Sony's they are not worth it.

Overall the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones are not too bad, but for the money I'd expect better. They are quite snug, but hurt my ears a little.I don't like the way the clasp is placed meaning the lead to the left earpiece is quite short.
