“Complaint against Yell”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MA54321 on 29/06/2023

I write to strongly complain against Yell . They totally neglect the businesses that pay them to advertise on their site !!!!! I am a landlord and many times I have sought a tradesman on Yell. I always want to write a favourable review to help the business that has done a good job. Time and again I have written a good review giving full stars. But it is ignored by the sloppy neglectful administration of Yell !! My favourable review never appears for the tradesman !!! When I try to submit it again. Yell responds you have already reviewed this!!!!! I now do not use Yell, but use My Builder who highlight the importance of supporting businesses by highlighting the Reviews.

“Number one sham”

★☆☆☆☆

written by joybobin on 08/03/2023

Yell is the number one sham. Please don’t waste your money for website creation or yell.com advertising. I am in a trap. I asked to cancel the service within 10 days of making an agreement with them but they are keep sending invoices and threatening final warning debt collection. I actually politely requested to cancel the service. But I will transfer the one month money which was £96. The website they created is a non-professional website which I informed them. These websites can easily make from godaddy platform or wix.com. This diy website is created by them for £36 per month. And advertising is actually a joke £66 per month listing in their website. I was under the impression that they list it somewhere else like google or something. I haven’t received a phone call or text from a single customer since I made an agreement with them. May be they cancelled the listing and stop the services still they are asking for money. Be aware.

“Horrible pure sales organisation ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dannyj188 on 11/02/2022

I used yell and only this Wednesday managed to get shot of them. My contract ended last August and to cancel any further business was an absolute nightmare. No contact to go over stats which by the way are less than pitiful. As far as I'm concerned yell is a pure sales organisation with ZERO back up for their product. Once they get their hooks into you it's a nightmare from start to finish. Yell is a dinosaur and it's dying.

“Nothing but hassle”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Orlando1974 on 29/09/2020

Been with yell a while and every year the price goes up.The last 3 years it has been over 40% increases per year. I then end up by negotiation, having ads removed in different sections and getting a bit of a discount.Still ends up expensive.Same happened this year 2020.I got a renewal 43% higher than last year.I rang with a mind to cancel as i haven't worked for 4 months of the year. Was talked into paying the same as last year ie not paying 43% more. When the invoice came it was WITH the increase of 43%.Called them again.Ohhh that was a mistake they said.So i asked them to remove the ad .the ad had only just gone live.No ,they couldn't as i had accepted a price.I don't want their advert and i am not going to pay.My business will probably foldCertainly would if i paid the yell ransom.

“Harrasing bullying company ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by k3esy on 18/05/2020

So I was bullyed into signing up for yells services, I explained several times that my business was already in trouble and that I couldn't afford there fees but promised me thats they could turn things around with there expertise, what a joke, two months in and my business closed I was then threatened with court action if I didn't pay the full 12 months even though I had no income. I was harassed by phone, email, and text. I even had two members of staff call me at the same time!!! The day that they close you down can't come soon enough

“Promise you everything, gives you nothing ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ruby1971 on 28/04/2020

Waste of money don’t use I am a soul trader and wanted to make that next step in getting my business more professional and noticed using a website. I contacted yell along side of their companies who could build my site. Yell where not the cheapest by far, but they offered me the world. Said they loved my items and they would have my website placed at the top page listings on Google. They showed me a few website designs they had previously done and after a very lengthy discussion and the offer of a £499 discount if I agreed there and then, I opted for them to help my business move to its next step. Sounds positive so far right.... I had been told that my website designer would be in touch at a time convenient to me and we agreed a suitable time and date. They never rang....I called the sales person and we re arranged for the web designer to get in touch, after a month of waiting I got that call. After yet another lengthy discussion about my business which was exactly the same as previously, which meant they hadn’t discussed my needs at all,I thought I had the website what I wanted and that would escalate my business to the next level. I received the email to say my website was built and I could now take a look before it went live. I couldn’t wait to see all the money I had spent had been worth while. When I saw my website I burst into tears, it wasn’t the contemporary sleek professional Website I had so longed for, it was old fashioned, out dated and very poorly designed, so much so my 90 year old ludite Grandmother could have done better. I felt let down, disappointed with even the basic aspects not even added like a basket for clients to check out. I complained and I did get a “senior creative director” to re design my site. A child still could have done better but it was an improvement on the wood effect back ground that made my site look like it belonged in the 80s. I have spent a hours of my time re designing and adding onto my website, time taken away from my business. Not what I wanted. After 3 years I have not had any sales, nor have I had any emails other than spam. My listing isn’t at the top of google and is placed below free listings. Yell promised me the world and all I got was nothing with over 3K money wasted. I would definitely go else where and hopefully you aren’t sucked into making the same mistakes I did. If you have plenty of time on you’re hands to re do the mistakes from your web designer, then Yell is definitely for you. I had done some research and I went with a reputable firm, or so I though. They are anything but.

“Yell do not know how to do adverts and tell lies”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dantay123 on 05/02/2020

I have been stuck with Yell.com they got so much wrong in the first month, I wanted cover for the whole of the UK, they put the adverts 30 miles of where I live! Which has nothing to do with my business. Then, again in the first month I got zero orders and asked to cancel the adverts, it turns out it was in the time frame to cancel, but was told I had a 6 month contract and could not cancel! Again, I tried to cancel and they said as a business to business, I can't cancel, but I'm not a limited company, I'm a sole trader, so the contract could be cancelled any time. Never use just never use!!!

If you’re a business and Yell ring you to sign up with them, just put the phone down. They’ll promise you the world and you’ll pay a lot of money, and the reality is you get nothing. They’re useless.

“Most Awful Company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/02/2020

I have nearly 500 really angry Yell customers on my Facebook page I HATE YELL . COM. Every single one of them tells the same story of miss-selling, services not fit for purpose, promised things to get you to sign up, abuse received by agents if you want to cancel your contract, websites not fit for purpose considering how much it costs. Some members are at their wits end. If you are one of them, we may be able to help you Whatever you do, do not invest a penny with this company. The old Yellow Pages many of us grew up knowing and trusting doesn't exist any more. They have long gone. If you don't believe me, run a search and you will find news reports by several different newspapers! Makes very good reading If you look at their website and see a 5* rating, it's not true. Yell complain to Trustpilot and request that they remove complaints and negative comments made about them! Don't take the chance. DO YOU RESEARCH FIRST and see for yourself

“Waste of money. Do not go there.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/10/2019

It is more than a year since I had an advertising contract with Yell.com but I am still annoyed with myself for being taken by their smooth sales rep. They did nothing for my business yet they tie you in for a 12 month contract. So it is basically money for old rope. Miss-selling and greedy. There are nice people there, I am sure/ and amazingly some people seem to like their services but there are an awful lot of unhappy business owners out there and it is time something was done about the toxic culture in this company.

“AVOID!! I was registered on Yell.com for free, later,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TatianaD on 19/07/2019

AVOID!! I was registered on Yell.com for free, later, on June 24th, I got a call from Malaki who was offering to help me with advertising. After about an hour long conversation and professional psychological pressure I gave him my details, however he could clearly hear I did not understand everything well and that I don have any business at the moment which I repeated several times. Two hours later I filled out the form online to cancel this agreement where I stated that I do not have a business. About an hour later I called them and I was suddenly told by Abi Booth that I cannot cancel this contract because “business is business” . However, before I was not aware of these terms and was astouned by this statement. Until that point no work had been done, it was literally 2 hours later I said I do not wish to work with this company. Then Abi started pushing me to agree to 50% off for 3 months instead of cancelling. I explained I do not have business or clients therefore I won’t be able to pay at all. Abi said that I’d have to pay 80% of the annual amount in order to cancel. My request to cancel had been sent by me 4 hours earlier than I received the confirmation for setting up direct debit. Moreover, they set up 2 direct debits for unknown to me reasons! I filled out the same form again and called them again but they never reacted to my requests as they were not interested in discussing canceling. I spoke to different people after this on the phone multiple times explaining the situation and requesting to cancel. All of them were saying the same thing and also refused to provide the recorded phone conversations between me and Malaki who forced me into this contract. Plus, I requested them to send me the contract over via email multiple times which they NEVER did! It is a company that only wants to get your money at any cost! Long story short, I wasn’t provided any details of terms and conditions of this contract before agreeing to it on the phone. It was clear to everyone I did not get how this works but nobody cared about it. To be more precise, these important details of the agreement were completely ignored and avoided in order to lure me into this deal easier and quicker. Based on the said above, if they do not cancel my contract, I will bring a claim to a small claims court against Yell.com. This behaviour is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. After my review on Trustpilot I received a call from someone who promised to speak with manager and call me back but, as the rest of the representatives of this company, has failed to do so. I am seriously fed up with the fact that I have to repeat the whole story to a new person over and over again that never leads to anything! I am tired of these people, therefore I am requesting to receive all future communication via email. I am also requesting to receive my recorded conversations with the two people I dealt with  from the 24th of June which I will be using when making a claim to the small claims court. Also I shell be looking for compensation for the stress this issue has caused me.

Keep well away from yell websites. It is a complete rip off. The company is run by incompetent staff & greedy sales people. They do not deliver what is promised & you end with a nightmare scenario for months. They expect you to pay extorniate amounts for work that is unproffessional. When you complain they do not listen . They will try to bully you for money. Do not let them get away with this & stand up to them. Like myself & others take appropiate action to stop them.

“Yell.com disgraceful after ending my 12 month contract”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CLM55 on 14/02/2019

After a 12 month contract with Yell.com to help improve my website ranking on search engines, I found they did nothing. I phoned them often, left messages but no reply. I ended my contract and was hounded by their accounts dept for more money. I paid it just to get rid of them. I wrote a bad review on Trustpilot. I then found my website listing was removed from all search engines. This has devastated my business. They denied any knowledge of this happening by them. I would not use them in any way whatsoever. Their service is disgraceful.

“worst advertising company i have bin with”

★☆☆☆☆

written by armaroofing on 29/12/2018

Utter shambles of a company.... Being falsely told what I would get for money. Hard sell, could never get in contact with the right person. After coming to the end of my contract I wanted to pay it off in full but because of the hassle I had had through the year with them they told me I did not have to pay the remaining months fee. I got e mails from them saying I owed £118 so I rang them back up and told them this where they said not to worry about it as its an automated system and just to ignore it. Now I have received a letter from debt collecting company working for Yell asking for the £118 plus an extra £40 for admin fee This company is an utter shambles and should be reported to trading standards.

“Hard sell ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Caden213 on 17/09/2018

Yell has only one interest, it's to sell advertising regardless of the truth. They hard sell with no opportunity to cool off, and when you complain it's just lip service. It is over six months since my complaint , and I have still not had a response to my complaint from a manager but they keep taking the monthly fee. The service they provide is non existent, and I would not recommend Yell to my worst enemy.

“IGNORE YELL”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ellae291 on 14/08/2018

No marketing reach. No results. No generated business. Their Web presence is very poor. Written confirmation to quit within the statutory period still resulted in an invoice being sent for "Yell.com Monthly Rolling Contract". Never subscribe to this. YELL exists for YELL. There are much better digital marketing channels. YELL is bottom of the barrel. IGNORE YELL.

“DO NOT ADVERTISE WITH YELL. IF I COULD HAVE GIVEN THEM...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by qmSloan425 on 14/05/2018

DO NOT ADVERTISE WITH YELL. IF I COULD HAVE GIVEN THEM 0 STARS I WOULD HAVE DONE! I have been advertising with Yell for 4 years and each time I renew with them i encounter problems. Last year one of the reps came round to renew our adverts and add some new adverts. We told him that our budget was £800, and that we couldn't afford to go over that amount. He then went ahead and placed the orders for us got all the paperwork signed and left. We then find out that the rep had placed orders that had amounted to around £2,000 a month which is well over what we had agreed to with the rep. He was so eager to get the paperwork signed that he didn't even go through each add as we would have realised what he had done. This year another rep came as we refused to see the previous one and the new rep who came said that the previous rep was well known for conning the customers into large orders. This time the adverts were placed but again the adverts were all mixed up showing wrong logo's, wrong telephone numbers on one of the adverts we even had a different telephone number altogether belonging to a dry cleaning firm. I have complained numerous times to Yell, by telephone, to our rep by telephone and text to which he does not reply. Yell are as nice a pie until they get you to sign on the dotted line, if there are issues afterwards they do not want to know. I have screen shots of the errors I have mentioned. Our rep gave me a list of all the areas we covered it took nearly 2 weeks for me to go through each individual advert and check and note any mistakes sure enough there were over 20 pages of mistakes. I have sent copies of this list together with some of the screen shots to Yell but apparently they have not received it yet and my complaint has been closed even though it was only opened last week and they were aware that I was going to forward proof to them of the errors. I have now been informed that the adverts have been take down including our sponsored listings as there is an outstanding amount. The payments have been stopped as the adverts were incorrect how can you pay for something that is wrong. Not only does it look bad to any prospective customers it also makes our company look dodgy. I have lost a lot of business due to all these mistakes. The biggest loss will be one of our listings which has our name and logo but a completely unknown 0800 number. I actually telephoned the number and found that it belongs to a dry cleaning company so if any customers did ring that number they would have got through to a dry cleaning company and not us. Yell are unprofessional with their conduct and are only interested in getting new business from you they will call you and chase you but in case of errors they do not return calls or correct errors. We did have a website which Yell built for us and then took down and then they claimed that they do not have the website anymore how can you lose a website that was built by them surely there should be a copy somewhere. Instead they kept on trying to get me to pay for a new website to be built. Yell is all about how much money they can get from you. The reps, the customer service team everyone is very helpful and bend over backwards to make sure you renew adverts once you sign that's it if there are mistakes or errors you will then spend months to try and get them sorted with no luck as they are not interested.
