Just returned home, after a splendid lunch time meal. The food was of a truly high standard; the presentation being the same. The staff are friendly, and welcome you with a smile. At the conclusion, the price appears unbeatable, and of superb value. Overall, a very professional business, and well worth a visit. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED .. GO ON GIVE A TRY. Colchester

Sat in the garden only to find a dead rat covered in flies next to the table. Told two members of staff. One replied everyone was busy cooking and the other thanked me for pointing it out. We moved to the other end of the garden and ate. Food was mediocre but I guess you get what you pay for. Left an hour later and the rat had not been moved! Perhaps I should have put it in the soup and said, "waiter there's a rat in my soup".

Probably the best roast lunch we have had out for years. Excellent food, service, atmosphere and price. Went there today with friends and still praising it.

Myself and my friends know only one Pub/ Restaurant worth going to and that is the Ship, the service is excellent, the staff friendly and the prices are the best in town, the choice of food is second to none and I always recommend it my friends and even the people I dont know very well but whom I just meet during the course of my work. Keep up the good work as I will be dining with again soon. from THE THREE OLD LADIES

I've been to The Ship on several occasions. The prices are excellent and the menu extensive. We live about 15 miles away, but wish this pub was closer to home.

Had a very enjoyable Xmas lunch. The meal arrived piping hot, we all agreed we would be very happy to eat this as a Xmas day lunch. Plenty of everything. The turkey arrived moist & thick tasty slices. Excellent meal.

The meal was served quickly and was piping hot, it was home cooked and veg fresh and not overcooked, I only paid £3.50 and cannot believe they can produce such a meal for the price McDonald's cost more than this. Portion size was fine, cant complain for the price. What do people expect for £3.50! I think it was great for everyday food.

Tried The Ship several times, and found that the cheap prices were reflected in the obviously cheap ingredients. Had Sunday roast lunch recently, and was given a complimentary cup of cabbage water intermingled with the gravy and veg - Yuk. Went reluctantly the next Sunday as guest of friends, and ordered Lamb, asking specifically for NO CABBAGE. The meal duly arrived again swimming in cabbage water! The lamb I ordered was 70% fat and grizzle, and the veg appeared to be yesterdays heated up. To top it all my wife's vegitarian choice was almost inedible. The Ship has a very high pensioner clientele base, I suppose they are trying to eke out their pensions on cheap meals. All in all The Ship provides very poor quality, with service to match.

although packed sunday lunch, service first class. food was the best roast beef we have ever eaten and all made for a great sunday lunch experience My eighty six year old parents were very very impressed and even though the restaurant was full it was not too noisy and ambience was one of calm. All areas were very clean and bright WELL DONE.

Enquired if they could cope with a party of 15 with one being a vegetarian, no problem we wre told. All the party said their starters were fine. Only choice was omelette or quiche for our vegetarian, very unimaginative, comment the filling was ok but pastry horrible. Two had lasagne both said it was terrible. Three had steak, one rare, one medium rare and one medium, all three were all very well done. The rest of the party said their meals were fine, except my wife. It was her birthday party, she did not get her meal until we had all finished ours. She was very embarassed having to eat the meal on her own so she did not enjoy it. They did apologize and did not charge for her meal. Tried to see the manager but he was unavailable. Telephoned several times but he was unavailable each time, left my telephone number each time for a call back but he never did. Understand that things can go wrong some times but cannot forgive the manger for not speaking to me.

I must agree totally with the previous reviewer.
The Ship is a great place to eat, good food at a very competitive price.
The menu is varied with something for everyone.
The staff are extremely freindly and attentive.
Not sure which Ship one of the recent reveiwers ate at but her experience was not something I am familiar with.
No pleasing some people!

I have been eating at the Ship in Tiptree for over three years now and can only say that l have NEVER been disapointed. The food is good and wholesome, well presented, and tasty. They have an excellent menu which contains a good variety of choices. The service is truly great with a staff l find hard to beat. I have taken many friends for a meal to the Ship and not one has been disapointed. In fact when they revisit they usually ask me to book a table for a meal. We have also had two Christmas day dinners there which helped to make our Christmas enjoyable. Well done the Ship keep on with the excellent work.

I took my daughter, her partner, and grandaughter to The Ship yesterday, Wednesday, for the first time. I had the steak pie, pensioners price, my daughter had the Cajun chicken which wasnt cooked properly, but when we mentioned this nothing was done about it, my `son in law` had the scampi, and my 2 year old grandaughter had the childs portion of ham egg and chips, which i must say was enough for an adult. And on checking my bill found it was the same price as mine. There was, as far as we could see, no childs menu for deserts. The staff wasnt all that friendly either when asked a question. My `son in law` asked for Apple crumble and got Apple pie. Dont the staff listen. No we will not be visiting again, my son did tell us not to eat there, and we are begining to think we should have listened to him. NO i would NEVER recommend it to friends/family. We eat out once a fortnight and can name a few much better places. Table too close together you couldnt move either. I had travelled from a long way to eat there as well, and was very disappointed with the service, food and the staff.

i regulary go to the ship weekdays and weekends and the food is always brilliant. The price of the food it great. We prefer to sit in the consevetory which is at the back of the pub as it is bright and airy. Sunday roasts at the ship are a must have. Fresh vegetables tender meat and the biggest yourkshires ever! The pub is usualy very busy on food so i always book in advance. a grest place to take the family for dinner.

A cod in batter dish that was unacceptable as far as I was concerned. The fish was watery and grey looking and did not appear fresh and the chips were overcooked! I have had the dish here before and was quite surprised because it was good previously. I did not wish to complain and was surprised that they did not ask if I enjoyed my meal. I cancelled my meal for the following Easter Sunday. Bill McGraw, 2/4/10.

Went to The Ship yesterday. The food was well cooked and hot. There was plenty to eat. The staff are friendly and polite. It was well worth the money. Would recommend it to everyone. There is nothing to dislike about The Ship. Will be going again.
