I have nothing but good things to say about the hugely patient service desk at Dataflame. I have literally taken up hours of their time today trying to get the website and email working for the fledgling part of my business. Both my wife and I use Dataflame hosting and domain registration services for our businesses. Their service is THE BEST!!! Technical support is 24/7 in any day of the year. We have contacted them more then 10 times and they always helped to resolve the problems lighting fast and very efficient. Technical issues that we had was self inflicted due to our incompetence. “Superb support from Dataflame”

I have had a dedicated server with Dataflame for about a year. There have never been issues with it, however I recently needed some specialised software installed on the server and was unable to do this myself, as it required root access to the server. When I contacted their online support, they recommended that I emailed in my requirements as it was a specialised task, which I did. “Absolutely horrendous!!!”

Absolutely horrendous!!! I paid for a year and cancelled after a month. they refused to refund me the other 11 months worth of payment which I had already given them. Hello Scott,

I am sorry you are not happy with the service.

However the problems came from plug ins/scripts used within your own sites. While we can impose security policies, we cannot put 'blanket' policies on a shared server.

If a plug-in script that has been installed is out of date or has its own back door, then you are risking entry to your files.

Unfortunately as we do not make the software or plug ins you choose to install we are not able to vet this.

We always recommend making sure all software is kept up to date at all times.

It is important to note, that only your 'own' data was subject to problems, as it is not possible for any other client to access any other clients information.

I found one of the scripts had been changed to root user and group. This could only have been one of the technical support team. It shouldn't have been left on my account with these permissions as I don't have root access.

The fact that an a attacker can infect 5 websites from one out of date plugin makes the hosting useless. In future I'll manage my own hosting where I can get SSH root access and set it up properly.

Hello Scott,

A file would have had its permissions and owernship changed by us, if 'found' to be compromised, thus stopping any further access to it.

ie this would have been done 'after' the event, not before.

This is done to stop any further problems occurring.

“Shared hosting limits server capacity”

Used for 8 years. Recently they are hosting so many websites on a shared server that performance is reduced. I have lots of CPU limts each day for a small site. Support was terrible and tried to blame me. I have since moved my commercial site to rochen and have not had a single time out with the same site. I am sorry you fell this was a problem caused by Dataflame.
However your site was creating a massive load on the server at random times.

We have informed you of this, with logs, over a period of time.
As it is a shared server, we cannot let one use disrupt the performance of a server.

We had tried to work with you, but unfortunately on this occasion this was not possible.

CPU limits and 150 emails an hour limit, don't they know it's the 21 century? They are living in the 19th and also charge you £15 a domain to leave them, time that was sorted as it is surely a breach of competition laws.

“Terrible hosting, avoid”

Their cPanel has bugs, last one meant that my site was down for 3 weeks without me noticing. They never answer the phone - even for sales calls it just rings and rings and you get a message telling you to use the online web chat. The online web chat is useless. “Sites nd IP blocked for all my sites”

My sites are constantly down. Locally I cannot see them. For some reason my IP is blocked, maybe because my reseller account was recently moved witout me knowing and my URL login was different. Very annoying. But 45 mins on to support and we eventually got my websites up and running and all my emails working. Such a pain to keep having to do this. “Crashed website fixed in 10 minutes”

My website crashed and all I had on screen was a 'Fatal Error' message. I chatted on-line with the support guys using live chat and then emailed the support team. I had a response within 10 minutes stating that the issue was cleared and that they had moved my site to a new server plus installed some patches to make things work.
