“Excellent ”

written by Essentiallyjane on 21/04/2022

I love this vacuum. It works well on carpets, carpet tiles and hard floors. I only use the tool with the spinning head which works great on dog hair from a long coated collie and my long hair. I find it very easy to use. I have no use for the second head. All the usual small tools are included making it easy to reach into difficult places, catch cobwebs and clean soft furnishings. The bag is a good size and lasts ages. They are thick as well so there is no dust leakage. If I was pushed I guess I’d say that given environmental issues it would be better with a washable bag

This vacuum cleaner helps us to save a large amount of time. The filters are working excellently. It thoroughly cleans all surface areas with minimal effort. It's simple to use and adjust depending on the surface. My mother is also now getting used to it and has forgotten about the old cleaning methods.

“Easy and Adjustable”

★★★★☆

written by BentleeWilliams on 08/09/2020

I have owned a Miele S5261 Cat and Dog for some years. Apart from dust bags, I have never had to have a repair or anything. Eventually, my old vac died of old age and extremely hard work as I suffer OCD. So I made it my mission to save vigorously to purchase an updated replacement. I am absolutely delighted and pleased I did. The option of the powerhead and the multi carry onboard tool kit is a great plus for this compact hoover. :) The easy turn power dial means that I can use on vinyl flooring and carpets at whichever power is suitable to the task, and the easy adjustable telescopic poles are great.

“Popping out filter”

★★☆☆☆

written by Southwellski67 on 16/04/2019

As everyone else has said, it worked fabulously until the black filter box needed replacing. The filter will not stay in, it keeps popping out as you hoover which means the hoover loses suction and is a complete waste of time! Time for a new hoover and sadly it won't be another Miele

“Miele C3 Cat & Dog Vacuum Cleaner”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 436Patton on 21/04/2018

This vacuum cleaner worked perfectly for about 15 months then we started getting problems with the casing popping up, we changed all the filers and believe me they are not cheap, still the problem occurs after hoovering for about 3 minutes. Honestly don't waste your hard earned cash on this product, poor engineering.

“absolute waste of money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by robbieboy1 on 29/03/2018

if you like hoovering every day then this hoover will indeed lift cat and dog hairs if you are not in a hurry. if however, you work, and can only clean at the weekends, this will be a complete waste of £350. warning bells should have gone off when i saw the size of the dust bag of this miele cat and dog vacuum. its not much bigger than a round teabag. that is NOT a serious dog hair lifting machine! there is very obviously NO understanding of dog hair by miele. so dont fall for the advertising and unbelievable reviews that its great as i did. the suction goes. the lid for changing the tiny inappropriate bags gets stuck. you have to go over the carpet just as much as any ordinary hoover. its not top dollar in any way. i only came across this site now or would have warned straight away after purchase from john lewis' glasgow a year ago

“Short lived machine - filter pops out”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Baked_spudz on 19/03/2016

Having spent £169 hard won pounds on this machine, I am sad to say it is no longer useable. Despite changing the air filter for £16 and taking out a second mortgage on the replacement bags, the machine still pops out the filter thereby losing all power and suction. You either lumber around the room and try and stand on the lid with one foot or get weak suction too feeble to suck up a feather. A monumental feat of poor engineering. A shame as this had good reviews when I bought it in 2013, obviously before people experienced the first problems...

“miele5261 is rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Garrettky59 on 20/12/2015

bought said machine about 3 years ago, fantastic for few months and then filter started jumping out with total loss of power. Even though changed filter on Mieie reccomendation and bag on regular basis , filter still jumped out. Carried on trying to use machine (holding lid closed with foot) and eventually decided enough was enough and took it to tip. In my wisdom decided it was probably a rogue machine so bought another (not cheap) Fhe new machine is just over a year old and I have now got exactly the same problem,I will NEVER buy another Miele vacuum cleaner, if you want one for about 6 months they are great, after that absolute rubbish. This is obviousy a desighn fault but what have Miele done about it _ NOTHING

“Not what I expected from Miele”

★★☆☆☆

written by Shonkey on 14/11/2015

I bought this s5621 Dog and Cat to replace a similar earlier Miele model that provided excellent service around the home and endured a lot of use (and a little abuse!). When it came to replace it I was happy to pay the premium for another Miele. Given that it is just a bag and a fan and a few electronic components I reasoned that it was worth the extra for the German engineering and resilience. Not the case it seems. I seem to have a full house of the common complaints others have reported with this machine: The carbon filter popped up, presumably because it cloggs over time, so I took it out and never replaced it because they are stupidly expensive. The cord rewind stopped rewinding, initially only when the machine was warm after doing the whole house, but eventually stopped all-together. The power switch started refusing to latch on and required progressively harder presses before the machine would stay on, so now I leave it on and turn it off at the wall. The accessory lid is temperamental and does not want to stay latched down. To round it off, today the motor started smelling of burning electrics and making a burbling noise - there's a couple of videos on the net showing exactly this and it looks as if a new motor is required. Really disapointed and cannot recommend this machine or any of the others which share its components and design. I have a Miele washing machine and its been brilliant, 14 years old and looks and performs like it did 14 years ago!

“I would have recommended it this time last week”

★★★☆☆

written by Brownfk313 on 15/08/2015

I have had the Miele Cat & Dog for around eight years now and it has always been a fantastic cleaner and very powerful. So, if I had reviewed it last week, I would have given it five stars. This week however, I am experiencing the well known problem of the popping filter. Have replaced with a genuine new filter but still the same. What really annoys me is not that the thing has an obvious fault but the fact that according to other reviews, Miele are not prepared to help in any way at all. Oh well, Miele are the next on my list of companies to avoid like the plague but I fear that eventually there will be no left to buy from.

“Expected much much more...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lakeiw460 on 21/04/2015

Worst vacuum cleaner I've ever had - the filter kept popping up after only 8 months. Replaced the filter, bags, etc... but continued to do it. Phoned Miele who were very unhelpful saying it must be the hoover bag that I was using. Seems that this is a very very common problem with this machine. AVOID !

“Filter pops up!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AmandaV on 22/03/2014

I was really pleased with the vacuum until the catches on it refuse to hold the filter at one side. It catch doesn't seem in the right position( or big enough) and eventually wears the small catch on the black filter. I bought a new filter and within 20 mins it has failed again. This results in loss of suction as the lid of the machine lifts. My mum has has hers for years and is a different design catch. Shame on you Miele for not addressing this problem. I am at the moment running it without the filter and placing a piece of the white filter material there instead. I will write to Miele to see what they have to say.

Cheltenhamlady's Response to AmandaV's Review

I had similar problem, the on off switch wouldn't work and the lid lifted. I returned it to Miele as it was barely 6 months old - ended up having to pay £90 to get someone to look at it who declared the filter needed changing and I should have tried that first. Disgusting. Didn't believe them but had no choice to pay. I have no pets so hardly having to work very hard.

Anyway found out you can buy a Miele filter housing on Amazon that replaces the black rectangular carbon filter which was the problem. You put the white filter material inside this housing and hey presto all working fine. Interestingly this filter is clean a whistle after 9 months which makes me really angry as I knew this filter wouldn't have been full. Hope you get your sorted.

“Active filter popping - a possible solution”

★★☆☆☆

written by mscott45 on 31/12/2013

The active filter on my Miele vacuum cleaner kept popping up. I changed it as per the instructions, but the lugs on the new one broke as the old ones had done. I tried gaffer tape, but this melted and failed fairly quickly. I then found that by driving a longish, thin screw through the lugs of the filter and at a slight angle into the side of the cleaner, it would hold things together fairly well. Use a self-tapping screw and you should find it bites into whatever plastic is present in the body of the cleaner. Once my supply of bags is used up though, I won't be buying another.

“Picks up the dog fur but only lasted 4 months (again)”

★★☆☆☆

written by LobusWobbles on 14/12/2013

OK, this vacuum is really good at picking up dog hair and is easy and relatively light to use (we live in a town house, so lots of stairs), but this is the 2nd machine we have had where the active filter pops out and renders the machine suctionless. We keep putting the filter back, but after a couple of minutes' use, it pops out again. The first machine we had that it happened to was just out of warranty and we put it down to back luck, but the 2nd machine is not even four months old yet and it has happened again. Going to go and find the warranty and see what joy I have there, but I certainly won't be spending any of my hard earned cash on another one of these machines.

Lobuswobbles's Response to LobusWobbles's Review

Written on: 28/12/2013

By way of update on this, we contacted Miele who advised that the active filter needed replacing owing to the amount of use the machine was getting. Have to confess to being doubtful at this response as the machine wouldn't switch on at all by this point. However, replacing the active filter has worked and we now have a fully functioning vacuum again.

Yep did this too but those active filters are not cheap and seemed to need replacing very frequently. I bought a new filter housing that turns the filter into a regular white filter material. The housing looks the same but has a lid you lift up and insert the white filter material. The active filter is in my opinion a joke. See amazon Miele spare parts. The filter housing cost me the same as the active filter and I won't ever need to replace it just the filter material inside which comes free with hoover bags

“Active Filter Design Flaw”

★☆☆☆☆

written by michaelP123 on 21/08/2013

We have had this cylinder cleaner just over a year but its only used upstairs so it has an easy life. We have only used two bags so far to prove my point. Now the active filter keep popping up because of a poorly designed latching system and has rendered the thing useless, i can see from the other posts here that i am far from alone. Also from what i have seen Miele are not supportive in this poor design matter. The machine is clearly not fit for purpose and should be avoided please fellow consumers do yourself a favour and buy a cleaner from another manufacturer. I do have several Miele products all of which are very good, this time Miele you have let yourselves down big time, having an engineering background i can see the problem, you should do a recall / exchange deal and make good.

Hi justn
I am just going to run a bead of hotglue just to the right of the faulty clip, it should hold it and be easy to pick off when the filter needs replacing
If you want a pic post your email and I will send it later today

Hi,
Ok the hot glue worked until the machine got hot, the glue then became soft and gave way.
Viewing from the front of the machine on the right hand side front corner where the filter is meant to click in you will see a square plastic tab, its about 3/8 " square, drill a small hole in that and screw a half inch long self tapping screw into that all the way, the tip of the screw will then just engage into the body of the filter and hold it in place.
Make sure you keep the filter pressed down as the screw is being driven home.
If you post your email address here i will send you a pic if it helps.

My machine is now working ok
