I've been going to Glennys for about 7 years and i love it :) I come every tuesday night and i love it with my group. I hate jumping but the instructor was very understanding with that. She will be huugely missed and we want her back for us!Come back please. Teachers teach you loads but do it in a fun way which is good. The horses are awesome and you hardly ride the same horse for 2 weeks in a row which is nice :)… Read Full Review

I have been riding since I was 6 years old I am now 28 years old. I have been to many riding schools across the uk. All riding schools have there faults but very minor. Glen Jakes in Stockport is a lovely place to ride (in good weather). The horses are forward going with the right rider. The instuctors are very informative and have helped me a lot. I learn new things every week that is how a riding school should be. Yes horses get tired from time to time. Dont we all! They get a nice rest… Read Full Review

I have been riding at Glen Jakes for two years. A few months ago I had a fall which seem to lose my confidence. The staff and instructors were great in that they helped to slowly build up my confidence again, so that now I fell happy riding any pony in any situation.
The stable management is great and the Pony Club is wonderful.
I really love Glen Jakes… Read Full Review

I Have Been Riding At Glen Jakes For Three Years.. Yes I Can Say I Have Learnt a fair deal.
But one of the problems is.. the stuff that they "forget" to teach .. in other words its "too boring so leave out" .. when you get asked or questioned on i tin the future and you cant or dont understand they seem to be more than happy to mouth off.
I Do enjoy glen jakes , i very much enjoy the staffs company and the horses. But the instructors can be a bit short tempered. i understand why.. chasing a bunch… Read Full Review

Written on: 29/04/2008 by crystalclear5864 (3 reviews written)

I went to this school for one assessment lesson when I was looking for a riding school. I am so glad I never went back. The horses looked tired and over worked. The whole place seemed to be run by kids, rarley saw an adult. The horse I had my assesssment on was tired and hardly moved - the instructors words were "give it a whack to liven it up". My friend and I cut our lessons short, we had seen enough. I would not let my child ride there… Read Full Review

just a couple of questions really.
What day were you riding on? and what level of lesson was it?

just out of interest

for your point about the average age of the people who help on the yard, there are adults around, both in the office and in the paddocks, depending upon the day depends upon who is running the yard, and so who you would see about

Glenjakes's Response to crystalclear5864's Review

Written on: 08/05/2008

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience, but the team here at Glen Jakes don't ever recall someone or two of our customers cutting their lesson short because they were not satisfied with the conduct of the lesson, let alone to be unhappy with the whole establishment. If we are at all at fault, we would greatly appreciate more information via email i.e. date of assessment because looking back through our records, we most certainly have not had any dissatisfied customers and certainly not two who cut their lesson short and left, this would most definitely be remembered as a very serious situation and would not be dismissed like it seems to have been betrayed in your review. All I can say is that if these are your honest views I would like you to rest assure that all our horses and ponies are extremely well rested and cared for and the whole adult team conduct themselves in a professional friendly manner. Their dedication, knowledge and commitment is reflected in their work to make all who visit / ride at our establishment feel extremely welcome. (Proprietor)

Overall the riding school is a warm and friendly environment to be within where the clients get to know the staff well, knowing each other, and helping each other out. Not just a lesson and go, more of a family atmosphere where there is always someone you can turn to on the yard. There is a level of light heartedness which helps you to relax and achieve more without being under pressure, avoiding harsh comments and negativity among clients and staff… Read Full Review

I really enjoy my private lessons and feel that my riding and my position have improved alot since i first joined thanks to stellas expert tuition and patience. My daughter has been riding at Glen Jakes for about 4 years, she went to Glen Jakes after going to a few other riding schools (as she lost her confidence), Glen jakes was the only school that understood and helped her regain her confidence she loves going and would be there every day if she could, the horses are well looked after, they all have a rest after an hours work and they also have one weeks holiday which is brilliant. I have owned horses myself up to 7 years ago and i have now got back… Read Full Review

Written on: 18/07/2007 by horsyXo (1 review written)

All the comments about how the horses are treated and true although the horses could be treated better. Nice staff but one or two can be a bit stressy when teacher. I think Glen Jakes should make their yard bigger so nearly every horse can have a stable. They also have enough room for an indoor school and should consider building one. Lastly they should make the car park bigger… Read Full Review

I know what your meaning by your points, but to expand the car park, you would be eating into the grazing space, to expand the stables themselves you would then be causing more of a problems since you lose space to safely keep the horses whilst their not in work, to add an indoor, it would also take time, and would reduce the amount of lessons available if using the existing paddock as a base.

I agree that the horses, are good natured and can be great to ride, since they all have differing characters, and are all different to ride.

Pink lady if you were senior staff it should have been your job to over see the correct running of the yard and care of the horses so no point slagging the place off now. It was your job to keep them well cared for.
