“Avoid like the plague”

My fiancé and I decided to use Debenhams for our wedding giftlist service and it's an absolute joke! One problem after another. First of all the process around activation of the list is confusing and not clear on the website, meaning ours took longer than it was meant to to activate. Various emails between myself and their customer service centre resulted me getting told different things each time, all of which contradicted what was on the website. Apparently you need to add a giftcard to the list for it to activate. They also removed 10 items from our list without telling us even though they were in stock meaning we had to re-add them. Fortunately we had the print out of the list. Since then a large percentage of the items that guests have bought for us have gone out of stock meaning their money gets refunded on to a Debenhams giftcard. Also various guests have tried to buy us gifts but the site doesn't take certain cards to they were unable to even though this is not clear. Again various emails between myself and Debenhams to try to resolve this and I'm getting nowhere. They refuse to acknowledge there's an issue and keep trying to fob me off with their rubbish customer service. We still have 5 week til the wedding so another 5 weeks of this and then delivery afterwards so I dread to think what else will happen. Avoid at all costs!

“Disgraceful ”

If I had known my daughter had signed up to this shambles for her gift list I would have had her certified insane. I had dealings with them a year back when my friend's son set up a gift list. The problems now are the same. Half the stuff not there. Stuff being removed from the list that's not been bought and worst of all, when you get to the checkout your card is declined for no reason. It's accepted everywhere else. Oh, and there's no contact email that I can find. My daughter made a huge complaint after people told her this was happening and just got fobbed off. They NEVER have problems apparently.

“Absolutely hopeless”

Terrible service and thigs not explained well by staff. Items became unavailable or out of stock. Friends trying to purchase items had their money out onto a gift card which they didn't want to happen. Terribly disappointing for a huge company and a great loss to them to offer a very unsatisfactory service. Not impressed at all.

“Appalling debenhams gift list”

Debenhams gives a sub standard service. DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Travel the distance to another store. We used both the Bristol and Gloucester stores. The gift lift advisors were always on breaks. Lots of the items we chose in store were not available, not that our guests could see that so they just had money taken and put on a gift card. The staff were very rude and point blank wrong repeatedly and we strongly advise you use another store. Good luck if you need to return an item. You can't.

“poor communication”

I contacted them regarding my order and was told the couple were not registered on their wedding gift list service yet Debenhams had taken my order and my money. Despite me giving list details and asking if my gift had been delivered Debenhams have not contacted me again. Very poor customer service.

“A waste of space!”

I have tried unsuccessfully to set up a gift list with Debenhams. It has been a very time consuming and frustrating experience. My first two attempts (via the Carlisle store) were cancelled by the store without any consultation or reason. I rang the store via the only available phone number which is an 0844/premium rate number (5p/minute!).The first time I rang I was told that there was no one there who dealt with the Gift List and suggested I ring back at a different time. On the second occasion that I rang the store, it took several minutes to get through the automated system only to be put on hold for a further twenty minutes. When I eventually managed to speak to a member of staff they were unable to help me and could not provide an explanation for the account being cancelled. I then emailed the head office who replied promptly but said they could not help me as the gift lists are managed by the individual host stores themselves. For reasons best known to myself I decided to have one more go. I chose the Gateshead store as my host store this time- hopeful that I might get better service. This proved to be a vain hope! Many hours were spent compiling the list - - again! The list remained'active' for about two weeks and then it was again cancelled. I have not wasted any more of my time and money ringing the store. I consider Debenhams Gift List Service not to be a service at all. Many of the items the store has available to purchase (either in store or on line) are NOT available on the 'Gift List'option. I suspect that those items that are available to access via a gift list are items for which they need to boost their sales. They tempt the customer in by cheap or reduced prices,by making false promises to help make your 'special day' special. They imply that by using their service it will help to make planning your day easier. They have provided me with nothing except a lot of frustration, anger and despair. I would not recommend this service to anyone, they have only their best interests at heart. Perhaps my gift list wasn't big enough to make it worth while for them. I don't know because whilst I have tried to communicate with them , they have made no effort to contact me or give me any explanation for their appalling service. PS. I live in a rural location and 50 miles away from from my nearest shopping center, so calling into Debenhams and creating a scene is not a viable option - otherwise I would!

Lots of items were cancelled/unavailable but then put back on the list so someone else could try buy them! Causing many multiple cancelations!! Had broken items given to us too!

“poor customet service”

Easy to set up the list, but actually a very small range of items to choose from. When it came to my guests purchasing items - lots of thing turned out to be out of stock and thus presented me with the awkward situation of having to tell my guests that they couldn't buy certain things for us anymore. I tried to speak to customer services both nationally and locally to enquire and raise this issue, but no one really cared! They knew my wedding date, and clearly knew when certain things would be discontinued, so why offer them to me in the first place? Whole system is ridiculous, and nobody seems interested in me as a customer! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DEBEMHAMS AT ALL! I wish I had gone to John Lewis or something

“Do not Use”

Had an awful experience with the wedding gift list. Most of our list suddenly became out of stock when people bought an item and we were not informed until days later. when we went into the store the next day there were plenty of items on the shelf that were apparently out of stock or discontinued! WE complained and suddenly these items were all of a sudden in stock and back on the gift list! the money that guests spent on these out of stock items was put on our gift card and most did not have an option with this and were very disappointed to know later that they were not actually giving us a physical gift! A few items that we did get arrived bashed or the wrong size and after reordering these items in correct sizes colours etc they still arrived wrong. I had to get really annoyed with the store before they would give me a cash refund over store credit for these items they kept getting wrong. Dont bother giving Debenhams the money - go elsewhere and get better customer service.

“Good service and options available”

We set up a Debenhams gift list as we wanted guests to have the option to contribute towards our honeymoon booked through Virgin Holidays. About 8 weeks before the wedding we went around the Debenhams store with a scanner and scanned all the items we wanted on our gift list. We were also able to edit our list online and add items . The online facility made it easy to monitor the gifts that were bought and the messages left by our guests. There were only 2 items out of approx 50 which were unavailable and the money paid for these gifts was transferred onto our gift card. Once our guests spent over £250 on our gift list Debenhams gave us an additional £50 gift card. The items were delivered when expected and were very well packed, each item had a note stuck to it which stated who the item was from and their message. Also when the items were delivered we had a note of all the messages which guests had left when they had purchased a gift card. We had one item which was delivered which was incorrect but we easily swapped this in store. We transferred the whole gift card amount back to our bank accounts to ‘pay us back’ for the honeymoon which is a very useful feature of the Debenhams gift list. The person in the Exeter store was particularly helpful.

“Absolutely terrible”

Do not use... The items that you have chosen which then go out of stock are not removed and you are not told they are out of stock so guests try and buy them and then at the payment part Debenhams say they are out of stock. We were also not informed of this so items just never arrived that we had chosen for our new home. Customer service is terrible, no one seems to know what they are doing or how to sort the problem out. We chose Debenhams because we thought they were a large company with a great portfolio.... We were very wrong. I would not recommend Debenhams for a wedding gift list to anyone and would never choose them again. I would have given no stars if I could have.

“Terrible service and experience”

We have had nothing but problems with our gift list with Debenhams - from guests being unable to view items or purchase gift cards to STILL waiting for the money our guests gave us 6 weeks after the wedding. I have contacted their customer service team several times and have been assured that someone from the Newcastle branch will contact me but 2 weeks later we are still waiting for a response from them. Disgraceful service and wouldn't use them again.

My daughter is getting married this weekend. When people went to her DEBENHAM'S ONLINE-WEDDING LIST SERVICE only one item was showing. On her behalf I contacted her local branch, Middlesbrough who said they could not help as the list was not in the shop but online. The gift was eventually purchased online. My daughter reset the list. A second person bought a gift online. Today. the first person was informed gift not available as out of stock but that no money had been debited from her card. She contacted the shop and was told there was plenty of this item in stock. She then received another email to say that they had sent a gift voucher in her name instead. She contacted Head Office Customer Service who said it was the local stores problem. She was told someone would get back to her, still waiting. On checking the list again I found that the present the 2nd person thought they has purchased was back on the list. I don't know if this will be sorted but no person needs this the day before their wedding.

If you want your presents on your wedding day, a clear easy to use service and easy and clear help from customer services do not use Debenhams for your wedding list. After trying to decipher how on earth to sort out the list, the website implied many times that I would have my gifts by my wedding day. I was given no options or instructions about arranging any days. I was having presents delivered to my parents house as I live quite far away from where we were getting married and thought it would be nice to have the presents there to open with everyone around. Get there 3 days before to find no presents have been delivered despite most of them being bought a month before. Rang them to be told they don't delver till after the wedding no matter what as apparently people often buy presents on the day!! What a daft thing to say. So what anyway, other presents had been bought. They informed me they had the presents at their store waiting to be delivered. So they were basically hording the wedding presents! To make it worse couldn't even arrange to pick up the presents as for reasons best known to them the "host" store was the one near my HOME address not near the DELIVERY address so they were 230miles away! Never been so annoyed. To add to the annoyance when I rang before the wedding I arranged an inconvenient (before the wedding would have been convenient) date for delivery. I was then rang a week later to be asked about the date again, I restated the same address. I then got an email asking for me to phone to arrange a delivery date! Great communication going on there! Just to add to the horrendous service a few of the items I wanted were discontinued and they never even bothered to email to see if I wanted to add different items instead. If you want a easy to use reliable service for your wedding list DO NOT USE DEBENHAMS!

“Products out of stock”

DO not set your wedding list with Debenham!,,,,Unfortunately I chose my wedding gift with Debenhams and i totally regret. What people dont know if their guest buy something and after 1,2 , 3 days or after weeks the product gets out of stock, their guest will get an email with their money refunded instead of the couple getting a substitute product or so. Guest are so annoyed to go through the process of buying another thing, so they end up buying nothning. Some of my guest got this email 2-3 times.......I was so embarased .....so please avoid disspaoinmtent

“Terrible - don't use ”

Tried to buy a gift for a friend and found it impossible! I order various items 3 - 4 times and each time, within a few days I had received an email to say it was either unavailable, a problem with the order etc etc. My last order was two items together to make up the amount I wanted to spend - one order has gone through but says it is not in stock so will not be delivered until it comes back and the other part was cancelled. I have phoned numerous times to try and cancel the whole thing but staff are not helpful and do not get back to you. Overall terrible service, simply does not work.

“Wedding Gift List”

I thought it would be easy for family and friends to order from Debenhams especially as my family are in Ireland No my family could not order from our gift list as our list was in the UK and they were in Ireland. We have had so many items on our list discontinued or unavailable our family members who were not informed of this it was only by me checking our list regularly that I could see there was a problem and let our family know to either get money back or attempt to order something else. I thought Debenhams was a name I could trust, when speaking to the local team their response was the gift list is a separate entity and nothing to do with them at local levels. Sorry not good enough you are all Debenhams and represent that brand name. I would not recommend this service and wish I had stuck with my original choice of stores John Lewis.

“Do not use”

Lots of problems with the website. Many of our guests had issues with items not being available and the staff at the store were generally unhelpful. We've also experienced similar problems with friends that have used this service. I would absolutely recommend not using this service as it really is more hassle than it's worth.
