I have only had this phone a week, bought it on the strength of reviews on this website so I felt it was only correct to enter my own review, even if it is somwhat limited.
I have been a Nokia user for many years and was reluctant to change primarily because of all the Nokia accessories I have accumulated.
But to the T610.......I love it!
Some wonderful features, when my sons call me now not only does their number appear on screen, so does their photo! And they have their own distinct… Read Full Review

If you need to get 1-touch recording on this phone it is still possible. Follow the following steps please.

1. Go to "My Shortcuts' using the joystick
2. Then to the last option "Edit Shortcuts"
3. Check "Record Sound"
4. When the question "Position" appears, answer 1
5. Save

Now go back completely. If you want to record anything just move the joystick to left, viola! "Recording; 0.00 appears on screen.

I don't have one of these phones, but I have a great suggestion to your phone locking problem. If you can create 'screensavers', create it saying 'Insert SIM Card'. If you cannot do this get someone to create one for you on the latest non-colour Nokias (Works a treat on the 5210, 3410). This is an idea if you have to leave it on the table, people will pick up your phone and think there is no SIM Card in it!

I've owned the Sony Ericsson T610 for about 3 months now and got it as an upgrade direct from vodafone for around 11 quid...bargain! this is one of the best phones i have owned in the last 8 years...its just really good. the only real downside is that all of its features get in the way of quick menu navigation...its easy to get lost in all those icons, and the other thing is the four tiny navigation keys surrounding the joystick thing...makes it hard to remember what to press without looking at… Read Full Review

Written on: 30/09/2003 by artington (1 review written)

The Sony Ericsson T610 is a capable phone but better for kids than adults. Text fonts are too small so if you need reading glasses you'll need them for this - not great if you are out for a stroll. (Similar problem with LCD monitors on Digicams). This is unlikely to be a problem if your eyesight is good. Amazingly, the text messaging facility gives you the option to use larger fonts and embolden them, but you have to go through the routine for each message which makes it pointless. How daft can… Read Full Review

Written on: 29/09/2003 by alasta (1 review written)

On the whole, the Sony Ericsson T610 is an attractive handset with an excellent set of features, but it is let down by reliability problems in the software.

The main thing that drew me to the T610 is the fact that I needed bluetooth, and the T610 is one of the cheaper phones on the market with this feature. Of course, I could have gone for the Nokia 3650, but I had a lot of problems with my 7650 and a friend of mine has had problems with his 3650, so I decided to steer clear.

The Sony Ericsson T610 is possibly the worst phone I have ever come accross. When I first purchased I thought it was the businees, the features were great, reception was acceptable and it all ran very smoothly. I had read all the reports about the faults i.e the crackling reception etc.. but I didnt experience them so I didnt think that it was a problem. I agree with everything you've said. I had similar problems and it is without doubt, the worst phone I have ever had. I had to have the phone repaired twice but the problems still persisted. Fortunately I had it nicked and now I've got a Nokia 7250i which is so much better.

Bud's Response to hainzy's Review

Written on: 28/11/2003

I normally like reading bad reviews simply because they give a better picture of how good the phone really is. Basic on all the bad reviews I went and brought myself a T610. Most of bad reviews do give a good impression of the phone and if you ask me, I think the phone is great. No problem with it what so ever (even under direct sunlight! oh reception is ok and so is battrey life).
<br>
<br>Anyway, about your review on the phone. To be quite honest, I don't believe it. I think either you love your Nokia so much that you can't help but to write something bad about other brand or you are simply really unlucky to have received a dodgy phone.
<br>
<br>Try SE direct like other have suggested or take it back to your provider. They will be able to help you. And next time if you have to write something bad about somthing, just think and maybe give it the benefit of the doubt first, or maybe try and find out a bit more before making your mind up. You will get more respect from it.

I don't want to sound rude, but maybe you just got one of the faulty phones. I agree that the phone might not have worked out for you, but surely it is worth more than 1 stars??? My friend got a T610 from Japan (where she lives) and has had hers a good 6 weeks, and shes had no problems! I am seriously thinking of getting one, (well, getting someone to buy me one for Christmas.... LOL) and I am just making sure you know that while the phone may not have worked for you, if you spoke to some other people the phone seems to work fine, apart from the so called chargers.*
<br>
<br>*Check the Sony Ericsson site. Beware! The chargers overheat and the plastic comes off, which could involve with some rather dramatic life scenes, they will replace it for you free of charge!

I have heard that this phone is supposed to be brilliant but it was unlucky in your case. By law Sony Ericsson should repair your phone within a year of purchase and this applies to nearly all electronics, and this applies to mobile phones. Just tell them and they will repair it free of charge unless you caused the breakdown. If the phone just broke on itself you are covered and they will repair it.

Hainzy.
<br>Im interested in your review.
<br>Could you please advise all those who are reading your review what network were you on please.
<br>Would it be T-Mobile or Virgin?
<br>I cannot see Sony Ericsson producing a poor product and if you are having problems then you should contact Sony Ericsson as they may have a firmware upgrade for the phone which might well cure the problems your experiencing. This will not rectify Inferior Crackly Reception and Transmission which is the norm for T-Mobile and Virgin (who are on the same platform).
<br>If you want Quality Transmission and Reception choose Vodafone, O2 and Orange. Vodafone to Vodafone is now very good if your on Pay as you talk and excellent quality and tends to be cheaper than Orange but also similar to O2 pricing.
<br>I currently have a Sharp GX10i on Vodafone and a C45 plus a Siemens M55 on O2 all working very nicely thank you (although the M55 needs a Firmware Upgrade to Version 10 mine is version 4). Im looking at swapping my GX10i for a Sony Ericsson T610.

I got this phone after reading the reviews on here and i had already decided i did not want another nokia. This is much better than any nokia. The points about slow screen access etc are exagerated and it does not take ages, if any pause does occur you soon get used to it and its a normal thing. Its easy to access the use of camera, calls, messages and wap just from a 2 or more presses of buttons. It's very light and a good centimetre shorter than a nokia 3310. Before I bought this Sony Ericsson T610 mobile phone last week I had always sworn by Nokia phones and was very reluctant to buy anything else. However, although there are some improvements that could be made, this is a fab little phone. My last phone was an 8310 and, although I liked it, I never really saw it as a phone I could keep for a long time. This one however is much more like it. Thank you so much for your detailed review of the Sony Ericsson T610. I, too, wanted to upgrade from the T300, but I actually initially bought the Nokia 6610 before buying the SE T610. And now, having compared them against each other feature by feature, there is absolutely no comparison! Sony Ericsson T610 wins! Here are some of the things that I was looking for that the SE T610 provided:
<br>1. The voice transmission and reception are clear.
<br>2. The ring tones and alert sounds are audible from the next room, even when the phone is buried in a drawer or a purse. This is a significant improvement over the T300, on which the ringtones, especially the polyphonic ones, were too soft, even with the volume at the highest setting.
<br>3. The shortcuts are customizable to my own preferences so that I can access the menus that I want to access quickly (instead of digging thru several submenus or having to memorize the shortcuts that are pre-structured and unchangeable on the Nokia phones). This is a very important feature. Kudos to Sony Ericsson!
<br>4. The "options" button is helpful in providing further information about a feature.
<br>5. The power button being separate is helpful, unlike the T300 which used the "NO" button multi-purposefully to end calls, go back to previous screen, terminate internet connection, and power off the phone.
<br>6. The built-in camera, mirror plug and camera button on the side of the phone make picture-taking fast and convenient.
<br>7. The color screen is crisp and vibrant.
<br>8. The creative design (fonts, colors, placement of icons) and functional structuring of menus and submenus are simply user-friendly and easy to follow.
<br>9. Website is very informative. Global support on website is not only helpful, but prompt in responding to questions.
<br>
<br>Things that were disappointing about the SE T610:
<br>1. The voice transmission, when using the headset, is fuzzy. People tell me they can't hear me very well when I use the headset. But I can hear them just fine.
<br>2. No loudspeaker. This would have been a nice added feature for hands-free purposes, since the headset doesn't transmit my voice very well.
<br>3. PHONE LOCK: The only lock that's activated while the phone is on is the keypad lock-- but not the phone lock. I have to turn off the phone in order to activate PHONE LOCK to where it will ask me for the code. I wish I could lock the phone without turning it off so that if I left it somewhere accidentally, no one else could use it without entering the PHONE LOCK CODE. This feature is available in Motorola and LG phones. This is another very important feature I wish SE phones had.
<br>
<br>Hope this has been helpful to you all.

I had this Sony Ericsson T610 mobile phone on trial following eventual despair with the menu on the Panasonic GD87. The camera is obviously of much poorer quality and the results show this (compared to CMOS camera in the GD87). The camera was the deciding factor. In response. The picture quality was poor on 'small' setting very grainy and the 'large' size just was poor in comparison to the Panasonic GD87 for example. I first of all thought there must be a fault with it but not so. The camera can store only ONE MMS picture/text message, the last one sent. The picture storage was about 20/25 roughly I think, but half were 'fixed' ie put on without delete capabilty. Simply not enough, but the camera was why I took the phone back. The phone side is fine. I really hope Sony improve it. I am going to check out the latest Sharp when available. Hope this helps.

Well, after first deciding to go for the Nokia 3650 over the Sony Ericsson T610, I finally decided to give Sony a go when the 3650 mobile phone proved too bulky. Boy I'm glad I did.

This IS the best phone I've ever seen. I'm a mobile veteran having had one mobile or another for the last 9 years so consider myself qualified to make that statement.

First impressions were not favorable mind you. I didn't like the look of it at first, hence the reason why I went with the 3650. However, after a… Read Full Review

Having purchased the phone only 9 days ago, I have decided to take it back to the shop and swap it for a Sharp GX10I.

There are two main reasons for this; the first is the annoying hissing noise through the earpiece when on calls. I've had two T610's within the above-mentioned time, the first was a 26 weeker and the second a 28 weeker both with the same problem.

The second is screen quality outside, what a manufacturing nightmare, what were they thinking.
So the accumulation of both these… Read Full Review
