“Walk away not worth the premium”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Iaincook on 03/11/2016

Have had so much trouble with NFU. Car was an obvious wright off but they sent it to a dodgy garage for repair. Apparently a premium repair center. Vehicle came back shorter one side than the other!!!I refused to accept it back. The accident was in June and I've only just been paid out. Almost 4 months later. This is not the first time I've had trouble with NFU and have reported them to Ombudsman. Will never use them again. Incompetent from start to finish.

“Fine for the first year . . . ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/10/2016

Took out a home insurance policy with NFU (I know this is supposed to be a review for car insurance but this is the only site I could find for this review) and was promised that I would receive a bonus after year 1. This promise was kept, and they offered £3.60 off my next premium which had rocketed by nearly 220%. They then had the cheek to ask me why I hadn't renewed my policy. DO AVOID this organisation and their misleading TV adverts.

written by redred81 on 20/06/2016

had a recent none fault accident. they but down wrong date for accident nearly a hole month early and my fault of which it wasn't. So when I went to insurance my new car to my horror they had done this. when I contacted them they couldn't even find out for themselves which company the third party was. So after nearly five hours of trying to sort out it still hasn't been sorted. please if you are considering using this company I strongly urged you not to. WOULD PUT ZERO STARS IF IT WOULD LET ME.

“NFU support flash for cash without review based on dam”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AreliMead on 28/02/2016

NFU do not support farmers at all. NFU support crash for cash and injury claims especially if the other party is driving high mileage low value car as all they care about is settle for little as possible. the NFU claims team are rude and unhelpful wanting to pay out as little as possible. Wont insure with them again.

“Car Insurance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lockhartou345 on 07/12/2015

Phoned for a car insurance quote. What a joke! He couldn't find the car so had to write all the details down. Asked me if I wanted to pay annually or monthly. I said if the quote beat the others I would pay in full. Then I was asked all the usual questions same as online quotes....but then came this one 'Have you ever been made bankrupt?' Being honest I said 'yes' in 2006 but what on earth has that got to do with this quote? He wanted dates times amounts.I haven't even got any papers on my bankruptcy as it was almost 10 years ago!! He said he couldn't proceed without that info so I told him to forget it. I've never ever been asked about bankruptcy for car insurance before ever. I wasn't applying for credit for god's sake. Anyway in the end I got a great deal with Marks and Spencer car insurance. Now I know what NFU stands for.

Every insurer needs this type of information to assess your insurance risk. if you havent been asked this in the past the agent you have spoken with has not been FCA complient. In regards to marks and spencer insurance their quoted may be cheap, but their level of cover is minimum. I hope you never have to make a claim with them as this is where you will run into a serious shortfall with the policy.

written by AryanaStokes on 06/11/2015

Been insured with Nfu for over 9 years, 4 cars 4 policies, 1 claim made and was bent over always referred to glass's guide as gospel. Prices have soared in 4 years going elsewhere to save over £2.5k a year. Yeah save £2.5k a year other friends and neighbours have left after enjoying backward policies and prices.

“Tradesmen stay away”

written by RWright1 on 07/10/2015

Been insured with NFU since 2001 (both vehicle and liability and never made a claim) and the time has come to make a claim, what a joke. Totally mis sold me a policy, I insure a van which I need for work and they try and send me a vw up car (very small) as a replacement vehicle, they advise me if id paid £24 per year more I could have had a van?????? Then they offer me a price for my vehicle which is around a £1000 less than I can find one for, they say they are going to send me evidence of where I can get one for this price but never do????? Again more lies. Then they tell me they are picking up the hire veichcle in 2 hours because they have paid out on the claim which only cleared in my bank yesterday, according to the policy im entitled to have it five days from when the money has cleared to give me time to find a replacement!!!!! This is only part of it and in two weeks ive made over 70 phone calls trying to get whats fair!!! Stay away from them, there is no loyalty here

“Couldn't find car”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rigobertom55 on 21/06/2014

We insured with NFU because of their renowned customer service even though they were very expensive. Bought a new car and on the day we picked it up from the dealership rang NFU to change the car insurance over to the new one. They could not find the make or model of our new german make car that has been in production for over two years on their system. They told me that they would have to refer to the underwriters that would take a few days. I was stood in the showroom at the time taking delivery of the new car. I asked them if they could cover the vehicle for a few days whilst they did this and the answer was no. Lewis the supervisor was no help at all so I asked him to cancel the policy, and forward me proof of my no claims. The following day I received confirmation of cancellation of the policy but no proof of no claims. NFU seem to be twice as expensive as other insurance companies but you feel that it is worth the cost for the service and peace of mind. I got very poor service been from the supervisor Lewis and as for the peace of mind, should I have needed to claim I leave to your own judgement.

“NFU MUTUAL CHIEF CLAIMS MANAGER -- PLEASE HELP ! !”

★☆☆☆☆

written by FUNKINETIK on 25/05/2013

THE NFU MUTUAL CONTACTED ME AFTER THEIR CUSTOMER CRASHED INTO MY CLASSIC BEDFORD MOTORHOME WHICH WAS PARKED OUTSIDE MY HOUSE (21st sept 2012) MY VEHICLE ACTED AS A BUFFER TO A LITTLE PUEGEOT CAR WITH FOUR YOUNG FEMALE PASSENGERS, 20 MINUTES EARLIER I WAS NOT HOME,THE CAR WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO A SOLID UNMOVEABLE STONE  WALL, THE GIRLS WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUSLY INJURED, POSSIBLY FATALY. AS IT WAS THEY WERE UNHARMED. MY VEHICLE WAS SHUNTED UP ONTO THE PAVEMENT AND 4 METRES FORWARD, IT SAVED THEIR LIVES. SO THE NFU TOLD ME THERE WAS NO NEED TO CONTACT MY INSURERS AND THAT THEY  WOULD SORT IT ALL. VERY HELPFULL INDEED. I WAS SENT A LETTER STATING THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD BE REPARIED ETC, AND WAS OFFERED A COURTESY VEHICLE. I WENT ON HOLIDAY FOR TEN DAYS TO EASE THE SHOCK OF MY BELOVED BEDFORD BEING BASHED AND ON MY RETURN A COURTESY CAR WAS ARRANGED. A WEEK LATER AN ENGINEER TURNED UP TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE. THE FIRST THING HE SAID TO ME WAS "l bet this is your pride and joy". HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO STRUGGLE WITH THIS ONE AND THEN HANDED ME A PRINT OUT WITH AN EBAY ADVERT OF A BEDFORD CF, NO DETAILS JUST A PRICE OF £550. THE ENGINEER SAID "THIS BY NO MEANS CONSTITUTES ON OFFER OF SETTLEMENT"  COUPLE DAYS LATER NFU PHONED AND OFFERED ME £550 AS SETTLEMENT, I OBVIOUSLY REFUSED, TOLD THEM IT IS WORTH £2000 PLUS AND I WANT IT REPAIRED LIKE THEY SAID THEY WOULD. TWO DAYS AFTER I REFUSED THEIR OFFER THE COURTESY CAR WAS TAKEN BACK. I WAS TOLD TO PROVIDE ADVERTS OF SIMILAR VEHICLES TO BACK UP MY VALUATION. I DID AS THEY ASKED, THEN WAS TOLD I NEED TO ARRANGE (at my expense)  MY OWN ENGINEER TO VALUE THE VEHICLE, I REFUSED, I'D ALREADY PROVED THE MOTORHOME IS WORTH £2000+. NFU HAVE UPPED THE OFFER BY £250 BUT HAVE TOLD ME THEY ARE GOING TO REGISTER THE VEHICLE AS A TOTAL LOSS, HOW NASTY CAN THEY BE ? I HAVE ARRANGED REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE TO KEEP COSTS DOWN (£1200) AND NOW IT'S ALMOST READY TO GO BACK ON THE ROAD. CUT A VERY LONG, 8+ MONTH OLD STORY SHORT, I'M GOING TO WRITE TO NFU CHIEF CLAIMS MANAGER TO HOPEFULLY GET A POSITIVE RESPONSE TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER. I HAVE OWNED MY BEDFORD FOR 14 YEARS, IT'S MY ONLY TRANSPORT, MY DAY TO DAY VEHICLE. TO GIVE YOU MORE OF AN IDEA OF WHAT THE NFU ARE LIKE, IT TOOK 5 WEEKS BEFORE I RECEIVED A REPLY TO THE LAST CORRESPONDENCE I SENT TO THEM.  THIS IS A TOTALLY UNFAIR, UNJUST SITUATION. I HAVE HAD TO RELY ON LIFTS FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS OR USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

“Dont take out pet insurance”

Left us with no pet insurance, imcompentent and rude staff. Went with them out of some stupid loyalty, heading off to normal insurance companies where at least they try to train staff properley and respond to calls and requests.

“Exorbitant premium increase ”

★★★☆☆

written by Simon196933 on 16/08/2012

I should point out first, that one incentive for going with NFU Mutual for my car insurance - as well as an unexpectedly reasonable quote over the phone - was their good reviews on here, a reassuring oasis in the desert of poor customer service that seems depressingly, to be associated with this "industry". I liked (and still do like) the fact that you phone their office - Newport, in my case - and speak to someone sitting in an office and not a call centre. I had a conversation not so long ago, with someone who remembered speaking to me over a year ago! However, I've just had a renewal notice out of them. Last year's premium: £312; renewal premium: £526. I have heard guff from other insurers about needing to preserve their premium:claims ratio, i.e. more claims/payouts, therefore a need to raise more revenue. However, in 20 years of driving, I've yet to make a single claim with an insurer, have a full no claims discount and have a clean driving licence. I'm surely the sort of customer you'd think insurers would want to keep. I would ask for an explanation from NFUM if I could be bothered, but I'm going with a cheaper quote from another company. Good luck with covering your losses with your remaining, increasingly-flotsam customer base, NFUM... Take heed and note that over the last year or so, your review scores have tanked. You need to do something.

“Far too expensive”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/06/2012

NFU are using pricing to drive people away. I have insured all my vehicles, buildings, comtents, and company insurances with them for far too long. My daughter at university is a named driver to use our Fiat Punto when she comes home. She is now about to leave university, set up house in Kingston upon Thames and has a job to go to. I understand and appreciate young drivers pose a higher risk and hence why our premiums were higher, but NFU quoted her £4649.76 fully comprehensive. I appreciate the face to face dealings ith NFU, but this has me now looking at alternatives

“beware crazy premium increase”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 17/04/2012

After 5 years of cover, max no claims, recent renewal for my Land Rover Defender renewal was up by 60% on previous year. Local office (Uckfield) could barely have been less helpfull. They have since lost my domestic insurance, for similar reason.

“Renewal through the roof”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/01/2012

Insured a horsebox for a year (no claims or changes). At renewal time the premium had gone up a whopping £51 or some 30% of the total. The very unhelpful guy on the 'phone wasn't interested in trying to match a lower quote from elsewhere but patronisingly tried to upsell me breakdown cover and a fully comprehensive policy. He also told me that, as premiums had gone up on average 40% across the industry (oh yes?), I was being offered a good deal. Don't waste your time with these people - they clearly don't want/need your custom. Home insurance is also outrageously uncompetitive - avoid.

Household insurance astronomical and renewal for car insurance prohibitive. They might be highly rated by which magazine but you pay the price. I am renewing far cheaer elsewhere.

“Don't use NFU”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/11/2011

In five years I have twice had need to contact NFU regarding insurance. The first time I contacted them my parked Land Rover was hit by a drunk driver (also insured by NFU) and destroyed. The aggressive and unreasonably minimal settlement meant that I effectively lost that vehicle, being as a result of NFU unable financially to replace it. The second time I contacted them was in relation to an accident abroad which was the admitted fault of the driver of a lorry. NFU have spend a great amount of time investigating the terms of my insurance with them in order to "adjust the loss." Three months after the accident I have yet to receive any written confirmation that they have even contacted the foreign insurers. In contrast I have had to spend many many hours on the telephone at my expense to the large number of sub-contracted firms that NFU has roped in to investigate my claim. It looks as if the NFU is not at all concerned with representing its clients against the other driver, but is very concerned to find a technicality on which to find us not covered by their insurance. My mother and I will have to submit to a two and a half hour interview to produce a signed written statement regarding all the particulars of our insurance. By contrast, NFU has written ONE letter to the foreign insurers in order to 'obtain the address of the British Representative". I only know this because I telephoned an outside firm and inquired. If you think NFU will represent you, then you will be disappointed. The staff have been discourteous and aggressive, the paperwork is wholly inadequate and in my opinion this firm has lost its way. I will be removing our buildings/car insurance from this company and I would recommend everyone to steer clear of NFU.

“ramsbottom was good-move to bury terrible!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by markwacko on 22/10/2011

have had two vehicles insured with nfu of ramsbottom for years, then they joined Bury and the service since then has been nothing short of shocking.three times i waited for a call back from staff, but never got one, sometimes it took 40 mins for staff to answer phone!surely they cant be that busy. One of my policies increased from £420 to £1150-no claims, convictions etc,the other rose from £1600 to £2800!!!phoned them and they didnt give a toss, even after telling them i could get the same cover for less than half their quotes, dont think i will be returning to NFU(no f"""""g use)The attitude of the staff in general is very disappionting and will lose a lot of trade for what used to be a super company-we also will not be investing any of our finance with NFU!!!which we were considering before they left Ramsbottom.
