I joined smile because it was important to my to put my money in a bank which invests ethically. As anyone knows, switching bank accounts is no easy task, and with Smile as it is the online arm of the co-operative you don't get the perks of high street banks which make life a lot easier. i.e. being ...

Overall, I am very satisfied with the Co-operative Bank. They have a brilliant telephone banking service with all call centres being UK based, a strict ethical policy so I know my money isn't being invested in unethical things, clear and regular statements, also I know that the co-op are responsible ...

With the internet service so awful and slow that it is to all intents and purposes useless and detrimental to having an account in the first place

I have changed from Abbey to Cooperative Bank in the last year, and I rate it highly because I can speak to assistants in the UK and not in Asia, this is a bonus as they can understand me and my needs. Very happy so far.

On 3rd January 2007 I went about £8 over my £100 o/d limit for literally a couple of hours (i paid some money in the same morning). For this, I was charged £35 - debited from my account the same day with no notification, sending me £33 over the limit. I received some days lat ...

Ethical Investment: With the Co-op I believe that my money will not be invested in the arms trade, the tobacco industry or anything else that tends to kill or exploit people. I think this is a very good reason for choosing a bank, and it must be one of the most popular reasons for people doing so, b ...

Clearly more bad points than good here. I would recommend investigating other banks that might be able to handle your finances better than Co-op. Whilst I'd like my money to be in an ethical bank, it's hardly viable to do so if the bank are bumbling and incompetent and have hardly any branches.

I have a current account and credit card with the Co operative bank and I have been thoroughly satisfied with both. The credit card APR is just 8.9% (far lower than any competitors). The current account is easily accessible (telephone/branch/internet/post/post office), and you get statements regular ...
