So surprised that loads of people have been negative - the service and store layout of john lewis in Kingston is excellent. I've always found their staff a stark contrast to the type of help you get in most other retailers. Their prices are not cheap, despite their price promise, but sometimes they have great deals, and on some electrical items you can get additional warranty as part of the price.

I bought two mattresses for my children from John Lewis. I also bought a new bed for my daughter there. I ordered it at the beginning of november and they only delivered it in the middle of december. After having to cancel everything i was doing for the next week after they phoned and waiting inside for the van to come it only came with one mattress and a broken bed! Estee louder demans a high customer service, so for them it is not OK.
However in some places it is not taken into account. went the other day to the section in john Lewis, Liverpool, where they have expensive make up counters, asked a few if they had any contoiring and highlighting products. most of them "professionals" did not knew what is contouring or highlighting. only este lauder lady knew, but she has treated me as if i am stupid which she thought i was because its how many peopel in… Read Full Review

We visited John Lewis Kingston on 27th of Dec 2010 and purchased a mattress (please note, we are the 1st customers on that day to buy a mattress). We arranged a delivery on 11th of January, between 07:00-14:00. They only deliver on TUESDAYS or FRIDAYS, which i do not find very flexible at all. It took a day off work (My commute time to work is 1,5h so no point taking just the morning off). I am a bit unsure about this review. This was a multi-part order and for some aspects the service was excellent. The problem occurred when one part of the order was not delivered. I keep getting fobbed off by the call centre. I have finally had to ask for a refund for the non-delivered item. ordered a toshiba laptop for christmas and delivery driver threw parcel over fence into the garden snow result damaged laptop.john lewis offered to replace with more expensive one for same price and £20 to say sorry .all was well and new laptop arrived but wouldnt connect to wireless network.contacted john lewis,is there a fix for this they say no will have to send it back with 1st one which they failed to collect.contact toshiba spend 2 hours on phone yes all toshiba laptops need to download… Read Full Review

john lewis .Reading, very efficient, friendly and pleasant. Ordered product and within 5 days was delivered and installed. The good thing was the delivery men fitted in with my schedule and not the other way around.

Rating is for the stores delivery service only, not for the store itself. I would not advise booking delivery for a large item with them unless you don't mind waiting. They have delivery problems and a lack of customer service concerning delivery (delivery people don't call back, no opportunity to call delivery people direct). Despite having 40 odd Sony Bravia TVs (46NX713) in stock and delivery being promised within 48 hours, delivery is now scheduled for 9 days after payment.

On 26 Dec I ordered 3 Ercol Chairs which were delivered on 31st Two were damaged, one worse than the other. Initially I accepted a 20% discount on one chair and a replacement for the other . I then changed my mind and asked for both to be replaced so they were done as two separate orders. Phoned Hamilton call centre the next day and was told it was in store. Drove 40 miles to collect the item, fought for a parking space, then sat for 2 hours at their collection point which was freezing cold to be told it hadn't arrived. to a collection point by 2pm the next day. When I got there at 4pm, no goods. The weather!! I didn't know the weather affected emails saying "dear customer, we're going to be late and we're sorry". Presumably they don't care now they have my money.

If they'd put any indication on their website that there might be an issue, I could have made alternative arrangements.

I went to John Lewis beacuse I though they would be reliable and worth paying the extra for.
The reality is they are pretty awafull. Having paid (£19-95) for a 2 to 9pm delivery the goods did not arrive. At the timee of writing I have spent the best part of on hour on 4 sperate occasions to their call centre in Scotland. bought wooden slatted blinds - they ordered the wrong ones and fitted them- 6 weeks later I am still awt the ones I picked 12 weeks ago, they also fitted a kitchen one which jammed after the first use- fitter came and yanked them - next day the plinth had fell off - I ordered 3 the previous year and one got stuck closed, the other had a chip on the cream wood and a piece of the mecanism fell out of the top of the other one!!! they cost £700, fitter just comes back out and starts to yank them… Read Full Review

John Lewis.com were very happy to take my money - which they did 4 days before the advised delivery date. The goods didn't arrive, they didn't know why. I am still trying to get my goods, they have offered a date 8 days after taking my money but can't explain the problem or even call me when they promise.
