We spent £1,000's with John Lewis in the 1990's when we were setting up out house, but in the last 10 years have shopped there very little, as we felt that their prices and convenience were being overtaken by the availability of internet outlets. We recently needed a new washer urgently, and decided to give them a try. Knowing exactly what model we wanted, the transaction in the shop (for nearly £1,000) took less than 10 minutes. Visited shop in Manchester to buy a microwave oven. None in stock even though the website indicated otherwise. None-the-less I paid in full (270) and arranged collection in store. Drove there next day to collect. Staff didn't know why it had not arrived, apologised and asked me to return next day. For a company that prides itself on customer service, you will find it completely lacking here. On my last several visits I have gone up to the electronics department to buy a tablet computer. bought a John Lewis microwave April 2013. Has developed a problem with the door no problem, 2 years guarantee, has their name on it give them a ring, they will exchange. In my dreams they pointed out that the guarantee is only for repair and parts. “Worst delivery experience from any store”

I waited for over 10 days after placing my order (for a TV) to be given a delivery slot. I was given a 6 hour time slot (7am - 1pm). The driver rang at 1pm to say he was not coming - he "ran out of time" and "sometimes things happen on the road". He said JL would ring within "half an hour" to rearrange the delivery. Have been a regular John Lewis shopper for a number of years. The service isn't quite what it was, but it is far superior to most other High Street stores. One thing that concerned me was, following a recent delivery, I was given a card which stated that I had been offered the option to have all packaging removed and for the item to be placed in the room of my choosing. “Fabulous service albeit poorly designed online story”

The gripes are that the online store insists on showing out of stock orders (even when I choose to not see them), and they do not issue special orders outside of the UK. On the positive side, I have found the customer service department to generally be responsive, helpful and keen to please. I ordered a new cooker online and paid the extra £74 for connection and disposal of old cooker. I took a day off work and waited in all day, only for the cooker to turn up at 6:30 PM and be told they couldn't connect it and if I didn't like that I should ring their so-called customer services. “Rude staff, faulty products, Don't care attitude.”

I bought a soap dispenser and its tray. The dispenser didn't work so I went to return it. I used it once in my kitchen and it stopped working. Returns lady told me that it is a bathroom item (very rudely as is if was some sort of idiot) and that I shouldn't have used it in the kitchen. HI! how about my attending an interview at their private members club in Cookham.

The Odney Club is for JL members only. They advertised for a beauty therapist to work Sundays - went along , carrried out a full massage treatment on a member there - then proceeded to sit for a full hour's interview aterwards.

Imagine how I felt to be turned down via email over an "unclean" uniform - why let me massager her then?

He advised us to get a device that used our mains electric ring main and then sent out a wireless signal into a different part of the house. “5 Weeks for a Fridge-Freezer Delivery?!!!!”

Do yourselves a huge favour and stay away from ordering white goods from John Lewis....like anything larger than a handbag john lewis makes you wait and wait and wait....they said 3 weeks for delivery...called customer service - absolutely useless.
