I found the service to be unreliable and experienced poor communication. 3 out of 3 named day delivery orders failed to be delivered on the correct day. I had to chase this up myself on each occasion and was reimbursed by small amount for huge inconvenience and disappointment

The fridge from John Lewis was damaged on receipt and after MANY phone calls by us the best they could offer was that a service engineer would call at some time between 9 and 5 on a weekday meaning we would have to take time off at our expense with no guarantee that the problem would be fixed and no fridge!

We paid £600 for a samsung tv a month ago. I had to ring tech dept as the picture doesn't seem correct, every one is short and fat. Assistant told me that it is because I am viewing analogue (I found this not very helpful) If I want an engineer to call out and it is not a fault I will be charged £35! I've been told I can get a refund on Sony TV we paid £780 and it is now £599.99. Unfortunately, because I bought it online there is no refund. In future I will be going in to the store. If the store had reduced the price, you could have got it that way.

We asked for a new buggy to use with a buggy board. We needed something that folded down very small. We were shown the buggy that folded down the smallest and bought that and a buggy board.
When I got home and fitted the buggy board I discovered that the board being fitted meant that the buggy wouldn't fold down properly. I ordered a TV, DVD player, stand and Scart cable from John Lewis Direct. None of which were delivered when specified. In fact I had 4 deliveries. The DVD player was left outside in the rain. The stand was the wrong one and John Lewis would not change it (I made it fit). The TV went wrong and it took me many phone calls and several weeks before it was repaired. We ordered a £600 piece of furniture from John Lewis and it was explained that it would take up to 6 weeks as it was hand made. Not a problem. We were given a receipt with an A4 sheet attached. On the way home we read the sheet and it explained that they would debit the money when informed by the distributor that the item had been despatched and that the distributor would contact us directly. 4 weeks later we received a letter from JL saying the money was being debited and two days later… Read Full Review

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Goods not received, did not receive any return phone calls, no one has seemed to take ownership of the problem, money debited from credit card although goods not despatched.

Item in question was a sofa, so not cheap. I spent 2 days making several phone calls to John Lewis and the courier after it did not turn up on the arranged date. Standard reply was 'I will speak to the relevant department and they will get back to you'. I did not receive… Read Full Review

I paid 7 pounds for a "named delivery day" with John Lewis, waited all day. Turns out the van could not find the location so went back to the depot, seemingly without trying to call to get directions. As I can't take days off from work on such a regular basis, I had to cancel the order.

They said it would take up to 28 days but I still don't have my cot after 48 days and still no sign of it yet!

I would not recommend buying a cot from here unless they have it in stock and can deliver it when you state. Now my precious baby doesn't have anywhere to sleep… Read Full Review

I purchased a Samsung TV in June 2006 from John Lewis for £640 in July 2008 it developed a fault. Returned the TV 2 weeks later received a letter back apologising that it could not be repaired but not to worry we can offer you a replacement. Both replacements offered were nearly £300 less than the Samsung and one was a make unknown to me (Linsar). If you buy a tv in 2006 of a certain spec for &pound;600 it prob would cost &pound;300 new now.<br/> tv's have seriously depreciated in value so i think you need to realise this. plus anywhere else it would be out of the guarantee, so of course a 5 year guarantee is good (even if offered replacement of equivilent spec) as other places would only give you one year. if you got the same value of what you paid you would have a better spec tv, replacement is based on specification of the tv, not the price you paidl

I was very interested in your treatment with the John Lewis Group.
<br/>My CRT tv has broken some 4 years after purchase, an engineer came to look at the problem, said the TV was beyond economical repair because the tubes are nolonger available. John Lewis phones a week later with an offer of 250 pounds no offer of a replacement TV has been made and when asked the rather unpleasant manager would not discus it further than saying " no replacement could be made because the TV is no longer made" I later discovered there is a policy of "No Betterment", this means if a replacement is to be made it must be the exact TV and if a newer model is now on sale with one additional feature it would not be provided because they would be giving a better product. This means that the five year guarantee is not to replace the TV if it breaks, unless the exact same model is still on sale, if the model is not on sale a calculation of its worth is made and a cash refund is offered for a fraction of the original value.
<br/>This is NOT what the salesmen are saying on the shop floor.
<br/>Has anyone else found this is a problem?

We purchased a Panasonic Plasma TV from John Lewis because they offer free 5 year guarantees on all their TVs and they price match other Brick-and-mortar retailer's in-store prices. Free delivery too. We were extremely pleased with the TV which is superb but 14 days after we ordered it, John Lewis had a clearance sale and the TV was reduced by £80! We bought an expensive item at John Lewis. I had found out that it was cheaper (considerably) at another store, and so I let them know. They are refunding part of the price difference, but not the full amount. This is because John Lewis do not allow you to collect large items from their store - you have to have them delivered. Actually John Lewis DO allow you to collect large items from their store. Usually these goods are a warehouse line and they can be collected from the John Lewis dept near to the store.<br/><br/>The Undersale (Price Matching) policy offered by John Lewis takes into account any delivery fee applied by the competitor that you want JL to match against. <br/><br/>If you had clearly stated that you were able to collect the goods from the competitor (Bearing in mind that you would have had to have originally collected the goods from John Lewis when you bought them or if the goods were not yet purchased part of the condition would be that you collect from JL ) then the competitor's delivery charge would not have been applied.

P.s I forgot to mention the Price Matching policy offered by John Lewis is not subject to trading standards etc, they offer it off their own back, so they do NOT have to honour your request. I think it's jolly nice of them to offer this service in the first place so you shouldn't moan.
