I managed to get almost all the appliances for my new house from John Lewis for about £1500 - partly due to their excellent clearance section.
What REALLY impressed me was that I bought half of them in the shop and half online, asked for the same delivery date, and the entire consignment arrived with no missing bits and no hassle. I was expecting them to be slightly disorganised and send two trucks, one for the in-store purchase and one for the online purchase.

We have just bought bedroom furntiure from John Lewis because we thought that although they are a bit expensive they provide a good service, how wrong we were. When they delivered the items some were damaged so they took them back. However now the items are out of stock, so we are left with half a bedroom furniture set. John Lewis Direct customer service is the worst I ever experienced in my life. Late delivery, kept me waiting till midnight and never turned up, did not receive the tv and the 3d player together. Only offered £75 compensation which i received 8 working after (was supposed to be received in 3-5 working days) and Jamie from customer service was very rude to me making me feel as a beggar. John Lewis (Oxford Street) has great prices but is very poor at stock maintenance. They didn't even have a baking tray in their central london stores and recommended I go to Brent Cross - the petrol itself would have been more expensive than the baking tray.
Similary, I went at the weekend to buy a magimix 3200 (again at the Oxford Street branch) and they had none of those in stock either. I consequently went to Selfrdige where they had stock and it was only £1 more expensive. John lewis… Read Full Review

excellent customer service, both before and after purchase. bought my 1st laptop there, it malfunction, they allow me a total refund so i went to buy a newer model.
Its not like those electronic stores who keep making u bring back for repairs, then left u in the lurch after 14 or 28 days to deal with the manufacturer.

I went in to John Lewis - a 15 minute walk across one side of Glasgow to the other - to buy a netbook. They had only a display model in store, so I along with an employee, who knew less about the product than I did, ordered it nnline so I could get the netbook the next day. I thn had to collect the netbook from the store the following day - another 15 minute hike. Where is the customer care in all this. In future - if I buy anything from John Lewis - I'll buy it online. I have had a terrible experience with John Lewis over my laptop. Firstly the laptop came with warranty- little did I know I would have to call over 11 different numbers just to get my laptop picked up to be fixed (only 6 months after purchase!). Furthermore they don't even deal with it themselves- I was put through from one person to another, which took the best part of two days. Having purchased a plasma tv and blu ray player online i was looking forward to receiving it the following week . As a matter of chance i was reading the specifications of it on the manufacturers website and was well miffed (to put it politely) to see that they differed (screen resolution on j lewis site 1920x1080 but it actually is 1024 x768 not full hd as j lewis say . Purchased Sony computer - collected from Cambridge pick up point on the Sunday. Did not use until the Tuesday when screen found to have a dead pixel.
Rang customer services who agreed to replace without query. New computer delivered to my home 8.30am on the Friday and faulty one collected.

The in store service was, as usual, friendly and efficient, but sofa as delivered was a complete load of rubbish. It was already damaged on delivery and so the internal construction, which looks like a drunk chimp had made it, was visible. It feels like they were ripping me off, the sofa was so poorly made. Having purchased a product by telephone at the Sheffield store, and calling apprx.1.5 hrs. later to collect. I was told that the product was actually out of stock! There was no urgency..the person who took the order was on a break?? To make matters worse, my husband ,who is disabled, had his brand new car bumped by someone backing out of a parking space whilst I was in the store trying to sort the problem. I have had an horrendous experience purchasing your products through John Lewis online. (14813009) The original order of (3) sku # CW1835 White small corner bins arrived with 2 of the three bins damaged (dents). In addition someone ( JL or SH ?) had fixed large stickers to the front of each bin and by the front I mean across the front of the white surface, these stickers could not be removed without leaving a residual glue . I ordered 12 large headed colubian roses for valentine's day and i orderd them early on the 9th feb for the 14th and when i looked at the tracking it said 'order processing' so i phoned John Lewis and i was told that it means i probably won't have my roses but i'll have to wait till 6PM until i can canel my order (incase they do turn up) but they advised 'TO GO OUT BUY SOME MORE JUST INCASE THEY DON'T TURN UP'

Appalling delivery and customer service. It took 5 deliveries for John Lewis to delivery the correct item on time! Delivery van didn't turn up once, then delivered the wrong item, then tried to deliver the same item twice and refused to take back the wrong item, etc. etc.
All my questions and comments were ignored, nobody tried to resolve the problem promptly. I sent an official complaint 2 months ago and still haven't received a response. I'm taking them to the Small Claims Court next.

Appalling service. We bought a fridge from JL and have even spent over £5,000 with JL over a few months on electronic goods. The fridge that arrived was defunct, they basically told us to foxtrot oscar and go back to the manufacturer. When I pointed out they were the retailer and they sold the item and they have a retailers obligation they gave me the foxtrot oscar again.

I arranged for a named delivery date before Christmas but only half order turned up. Was told to wait in until 6pm as order was coming via another courier. It didn't arrive and was then told it had been lost. Was told to phone Southampton store who would deliver item in time for Xmas. Southampton store said they wouldn't and customer services kept doing the same thing and fobbing off customers with false info.

Bought items of bedroom furniture (Richmond range), manufaction by Frank Hudson. Some items were faultly and most were of poor quality and construction- when delivered in November 2009. Defects included split wood, large gaps between wardrobe doors and drawers, chipboard carcasses and ill-fitting pull-out rails etc.
