We were to receive an expensive wedding present from my uncle. John Lewis never ever delivered it. They kept putting the phone down on me and basically conned my uncle out of £300 worth of a food processor. Ordered a mattress from John Lewis online which shows that it will be delivered within 7 working days. After a few days JL phoned me and confirmed the delivery date. The day before delivery they sent me a text message and confirmed again. We used John Lewis for our gift list which included a £1,400 sofa and chair which was supposed to be delivered saturday. The wrong sofa was delivered and there was no sign of the armchair and two items were missing. It was supposed to be so magical receiving our gifts and it was all ruined. I am still chasing John Lewis re: the missing items and still have not heard why this has happened and when we will recieve our gifts. I bought a Miele washing machine and dishwasher from JL online and arranged for express delivery, items arrived promptly as arranged, however the dishwasher had a slight dent on the left side, i phoned up customer services and within 5 minutes had been offered a collection and drop off of a new item, no fuss no waiting. excellent service, will never use comet or currys ect again… Read Full Review

Bought a Sony Bravia internet ready tv. Found out that it will only accept the Sony wifi dongle at around £70.00, John Lewis did not make it clear that you could only use the expensive Sony Dongle. Also 5 year guarantee and no paperwork to back it up. Tried phoning twice and was told copy receipt on its way, no paper work req. Ordered a bed and mattress. The mattress arrived separately on time and fine. The bed however didn't show up. I waited in a whole day. Phoned up the delivery people who said they triued to deliver. Well they bloody well didn't try to deliver unless trying meant they couldn't get it out of the stock room floor. Lazy, incompetent lying baztards. how to spend £1200, wait for a delivery, see it and get told they can not deliver because you live on the 3rd floor???
unbelievable!! maybe they should ask what floor you live in in the first place on their website??

John Lewis High Wycombe is usually a really good store but we purchased an Oberon Fire Pit (Garden Burner/Heater) earlier in the summer and it is now a rust bucket after being left out overnight in light rain. JL's delivery service didn't turn up when expected, though they claimed to have done so, but there wasn't even a note left behind. It's July, and we're waiting for a new, and a hopefully working fridge for another week, since this was the nearest new delivery slot they could offer. I have recently moved into a new house and have ordered lots of items for delivery and I have to say John Lewis are by far the worse. The first delivery attempt was cancelled as they had ordered the wrong item and on the second attempt we had a delivery slot of 3 - 8pm. At 8.30pm I was told that the delivery was late and should arrive in the next hour. It finally arrived at 9.45pm with no apology. I managed to get almost all the appliances for my new house from John Lewis for about £1500 - partly due to their excellent clearance section.
What REALLY impressed me was that I bought half of them in the shop and half online, asked for the same delivery date, and the entire consignment arrived with no missing bits and no hassle. I was expecting them to be slightly disorganised and send two trucks, one for the in-store purchase and one for the online purchase.

We have just bought bedroom furntiure from John Lewis because we thought that although they are a bit expensive they provide a good service, how wrong we were. When they delivered the items some were damaged so they took them back. However now the items are out of stock, so we are left with half a bedroom furniture set. John Lewis Direct customer service is the worst I ever experienced in my life. Late delivery, kept me waiting till midnight and never turned up, did not receive the tv and the 3d player together. Only offered £75 compensation which i received 8 working after (was supposed to be received in 3-5 working days) and Jamie from customer service was very rude to me making me feel as a beggar. John Lewis (Oxford Street) has great prices but is very poor at stock maintenance. They didn't even have a baking tray in their central london stores and recommended I go to Brent Cross - the petrol itself would have been more expensive than the baking tray.
Similary, I went at the weekend to buy a magimix 3200 (again at the Oxford Street branch) and they had none of those in stock either. I consequently went to Selfrdige where they had stock and it was only £1 more expensive. John lewis… Read Full Review

excellent customer service, both before and after purchase. bought my 1st laptop there, it malfunction, they allow me a total refund so i went to buy a newer model.
Its not like those electronic stores who keep making u bring back for repairs, then left u in the lurch after 14 or 28 days to deal with the manufacturer.

I went in to John Lewis - a 15 minute walk across one side of Glasgow to the other - to buy a netbook. They had only a display model in store, so I along with an employee, who knew less about the product than I did, ordered it nnline so I could get the netbook the next day. I have had a terrible experience with John Lewis over my laptop. Firstly the laptop came with warranty- little did I know I would have to call over 11 different numbers just to get my laptop picked up to be fixed (only 6 months after purchase!). Furthermore they don't even deal with it themselves- I was put through from one person to another, which took the best part of two days.
