“CHAPPIE - great for dodgy doggy tums and bums! ”

Written on: 03/04/2011

CHAPPIE - great for dodgy doggy tums and bums!
My springer spaniel puppy (now 6 months) seemed to be having a lot of runny poos - we would often wake to find what looked like an explosion on the floor! As it is my first dog, I was really panicky so was constantly at the vet who sold me Royal Canin 'sensitive' wet food (£2 per standard can) You can imagine the expense of me being a new mum!. Well this food was basically minced chicken and rice - nothing else. His poo would return to normal… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/03/2011

My late German Shepherd had a sensitive tummy, and when he was 6 years old developed a nasty condition called furunculosis which causes lesions inside the back passage which can spread into the bowel. We were advised by the vet to keep his diet bland and to avoid beef. Many of brands of food were simply too expensive for us to feed him long term so we decided to try the cheap and cheerful chappie, and amazingly he loved it and his condition resolved and never recurred. I now feed chappie dry… Read Full Review

Our five month old puppy has had constant sloppy poos and nothing seemed to help - we tried every possible brand. The vet recommended Chappie and immediately everything improved. As it's a low fat food you do need to feed more for puppies but the change is amazing… Read Full Review

Tiggerbabe's Comment

My 5 yr old Cocker was recently diagnosed with Pancreatitius after a lifelong diet of dried food from James Wellbeloved through to Science Plan.

When I moved in with my boyfriend who also had a dog, my Cocker became much more "gulpy" when eating his food as he was obviously worried that the other dog was going to try to get his dinner!

I don't think that eating dried food at such a pace helped with his pancreatitius, but the vet recommended he be put on Chappie which would also help with his weight which he was getting slightly chubby.

I have had no problems since then, and he has also been changed to 3 meals a day, rather than two so that his pancreaus can process everything at a better pace.

Can't fault Chappie at all!

Just wish they had more than two flavours!

OK I don't knwo about their dry food but my greyhound was on their wet and it was not good at all. We had to mix it with butchers and it made her stool sample all runny and she didn't even eat all that much to be honest. Maybe thats just because wet food isn't as good dry food. Any we switched her to dry food ( different brand) and she loved the taste and her stool is normal… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/06/2010

My cross-breed dog Angel was always fed Butcher's wet and Baker's dry food with occassional treats. She then went off her food and I mean not eating anything so after a few days we took her to the vet she had developed pancreatitis and was really unwell and in a lot of pain. The vet had her on Royal Canin (cost a fortune) for a fortnight and then recommended Chappie. We have not looked back - this is a fab food for any dog that suffers from this painful condition or even just for roly poly dogs… Read Full Review

Written on: 14/06/2010 by aliost (1 review written)

Our Cocker spaniel had been on high priced so called quality foods, from James wellbeloved to Eukanuba. Being a spaniel he has a sensitive tummy. We heard about chappie but were reluctant to try as it was cheap and were unsure of the content. We decided to give it a go, bought chappie dry food and our dog has been happier. No upset tummy, he's extremely happy and we wouldn't change it. Chappie is ideal… Read Full Review

We have 2 westie's; one is 6 years old & the other is 10months old. I have been to the Vet 6 times in the past 10 months with our 6 yr old female, as she has had diarrohea, loose movements, lethargy (very extreme at times), & just has not been "herself". They have always both been fed on Wainwrights or Nature's Harvest (Wainwrights since the pup came along). Although they seem to like it some of the time, I was getting absolutely sick of throwing away such expensive dog food, whilst also… Read Full Review

Written on: 16/02/2010

My 8 year old giant schnauzer has suffered from numerous allergies and Inflammatory Bowel Disease for the past 3 years. Absolutely nothing I gave him agreed with his stomach. He was lethargic, his stomach grumbling constantly and really bad diarrhea. I have spent thousands of pounds on different foods all promising miracles. Last October, at my wits end I purchased some chappie original (wet) and we have never looked back. He loves the taste and his I.B.D. is under control. Even my vet agrees… Read Full Review

Written on: 22/01/2010 by Bayney (2 reviews written)

We have 2 dogs, one a jack russell cross & one lab retriever. The jack cross deveeloped hot spots & terrible problems with his skin last summer. After dozens of trips to the vets, & a bill of £450, i was at my wits end! We were advised to put him onto Burns complete, £43 for 15kg, which for the two dogs worked out very expensive. The jack cross' coat was falling out in handfuls & he was grumpy, lethargic & looked pig sick! he started to refuse the food too.

My 2 year old miniature poodle has always had a sensitive tummy and had always been a fussy eater. Since he was a 9 week old puppy we have had regular visits to the vet due to vomiting and diarrhoea. We have tried everything - all the high end foods, which were usually rejected with a snort and only ate when he was desperate. Having been particularly bad just before christmas and after lots of tests he has been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis - the only options left to us were prescription… Read Full Review

I have Siberian huskies and German shepherds and I have tried nearly every food going, the dreaded 5 weeks old puppies trotts. Raw meat fills puppies with bacteria, result diarrhoea sick puppies. I did not believe in tinned dog food but Chappie chicken & rice is brilliant for puppies. I have just tried the dry chicken & rice and my shepherds have whoffed it down like no tomorrow, I was amazed. I give all my dogs the expensive brands of dry food and my dogs sniff it and pick at it and throw it… Read Full Review

my dogue de bordeaux was previously on a expensive brand of dog food which cost us around £45 every three weeks, it was what the vet had previously recommended but he always had the runs and had very bad wind, he was also very skinny. we took him to the vets and they recommended a prescription diet of £65 for 14kg!! I read somewhere that chappie dry was often the best for dogs with sensitive tummies, i tried it and within a week his tummy had settled down, his coat looked brilliant and over… Read Full Review

My vet recommended Chappie as my Springer was on the large side. i decided to put all mine on it as they were on naturediet but i often found that some of the packets were rotten and i was sick of having to go back and forth to change. The only down side is it does get a bit sticky and so gets stuck to the roof of their mouths but they love it and they are all a very good size now. if only they done puppy as i have 3 pups that are always trying to eat the bigger dogs food… Read Full Review
