“Touring site - primrose valley ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Apotter1234 on 14/05/2019

Booked a week on the touring site, I lasted two nights before I ended up heading home. The site is very noisy with traffic from the main road, and the security barrier right outside the plot. Staff, in particular the wardens are argumentative and very impolite. The showers are very poor, unless you enjoy a cold shower! They had an issue with my awning which was not to their liking, and I was ordered to take it down, no alternative arrangements were offered. Promised a full refund which I have not received.

just returned on the 05/07/2014 the camp attractions look very dated i.e dodgem/and other fair ground rides plus the Mash Barrel club looks like it needs updating i found from the moment you set foot on the camp Haven idea of a holiday park is to get as much money out of you as possible we ate out the first night i had cold ham egg and chips my wife had scampmi and chips in a pub i would expect to pay around £10/£12 on the site it was around £17 for the 2 of us on last night we had a take away 3 large pizzas and chicken nuggets and wings from Pappa Johns over £46( there were 5 other people with us ) if you want to take your ipad with you there is no internet access in Starbucks or in the Mash Barrel as was provided when we stayed at an Haven site in north Wales so they provide 15 minutes free wi fi a day any more you have to pay for at a rate of £18 per appliance per week as you can imagine that can soon mount up on the plus side the camp was nice and clean and all the staff we came across were excellent so to finish off if you are going to Primrose Valley this year make sure you have plenty of cash with you as you will need it

“holiday at primrose valley”

★★★★☆

written by liverpoolfc2014 on 12/05/2014

Have just returned from primrose valley with my wife and two girls aged 4,6.we stayed mon to fri in a prestige caravan on beech rise which we booked in January and only paid 180 pound as we got 50% off.the caravan was very nice with a parking space for the car at the front, it was very clean and had everything there we needed, we also had no breakdowns with anything too.the complex was very good lots to do for the kids and had great entertainment on every night. The swimming pools were good but one was only open on a morning which wasn't very good, the food on site was quite expensive but there is a supermarket there and one down the road in filey too so you can easily cook in your caravan, overall I would say primrose valley is a very good holiday park for all the family but I would say that 5 days is easily enough.

“Little Learner's Driving School is great!!”

written by on 27/05/2013

Just spent a week here activity pool is brilliant for kids but my 3 yr old loved little learners driving school, the guy even helped her round as she was a bit too small. Really great idea for the kids it's by the activity pool, they've even got a bungee trampoline for the bigger kids!!! The best part of the holiday for her was driving the fire engine!!!

“Not impressed”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/06/2011

Booked a 4 day break through The Sun Holiday scheme with my 2 young children and had paid extra for a 'luxury plus' caravan. On arrival we were dealt with quickly and efficiently by friendly staff but that unfortunately where the good bits ended. Our caravan was set in a large block (pine ridge) and very close together it looked quite small and very dirty on the outside the windows were absolutely filthy. Inside the cleanliness was too bad but the furniture etc were very dated and had seen better days. Beds were very uncomfortable and it was cold too as no heating, very noisy at night people arguing, kids screaming and people drunk and gobbing off the place was pretty much full of mingers. I really cannot believe this was supposed to be superior van. We managed to check out some of the complex which is huge! shop and restaurants rip off prices as you would expect on a site like this, kids entertainment cheesy but they liked it. Staff in bar area looked fed up and bored. Beach is a fair walk too about half an hour and not the easiest when you got pushchairs. Did nt get chance to go in pools so cant comment, there is a small park for younger children but really big enough. Every time I see the Haven advert on telly or in a magazine it makes me laugh as it is very misleading! Nothing like what it is in real life lol I would go back to this area again but not to a haven site.

Just returned today from Primrose Valley and had a brilliant week, booked at Platinum 2 bed caravan and ended up being given a 3 bed which was excellant throughout, was in Linkfield Court which was really close to main funworks, staff and funstars brilliant, site lovely, some things are expensive but you don't have to spend the money if you don't want too, our kids were quite happy cycling around and going to the adventure playground, kids clubs and going swimming which doesn't cost anything extra, ate out at the Mash and Barrell a couple of times which compared to others wasn't expensive but cooked in our caravan the majority of the week. All in all haven holidays are only as expensive as you make them yourself, we had a brilliant time and more importantly the kids loved it. Would definately recommend.

written by elainewillis on 11/10/2010

just returned early from this site as i found it was nothing like i was lead to believe. We always go to sites this time of year and we expected it to be quieter than at busy times and we chose this.We booked a platinum caravan and on arrival the beds were made up with cheap nasty linen and there was only one pillow per person and these were covered in mould, there was'nt any DVD player nor towels that i had paid for .The caravan was at least a 15min walk from the entertainment complex and as i paid nearly £400 for an off season caravan i expected to be nearer to the bars , all the entertainment at our end of the site was closed for the season , not mentioned on either the web site or brochure , there was nothing in the caravan to tell us the opening times etc and on the daywe arrived it was full of majorettes from all over the country in a competiton and as a result one of the bars was closed to us (private function) and the other one was full up and we were unable to get a drink or eat and this was the same on the sunday , this was very upsetting as it was my 50th birthday and wedding anniverary the reason we went away .this is not place i will ever go back to.

Sorry that you had a bad time - but why would two adults go to a park that is aimed at young families???

I have been to Primrose a few times and have hired a private van which was lovely but I wouldn't set foot on there if it was just my husband and I going away,

Just been was also in Eskdale like another reviewer and indeed it is far from the main events but not to far for it to be a bother. The area around Filey consists of filey beach (winner of cleanest beach 2010) and it was very clean. Scarborough which is just full of everything and anything, bridlington which is just a seaside mecca. Onsite the their are manay activities most at cost. there restuarant was good, and general clean level.

“23/8/10. just back from 7 nights at havens primrose...”

★★★★★

written by markann11 on 23/08/2010

23/8/10. just back from 7 nights at havens primrose valley, i'm quite easy to please but the wife isn't so i booked a 2 bedroom prestige van,£700 for the week. some people complaining about check in times but with prestige van we were able to check in at 2.30, no queues , no fuss. our van was in eskdale, probably the furthest away you could get from the main complex, about a mile, 15-20 minute walk. we took the car so no problems there. the van was immaculate and well furnished, kitchen / diner with integrated appliances, en-suite bathroom, central heating, flat screen tv / dvd player etc.

the swimming pools and parks are free, but you have to pay for all other rides / activities etc. the prices are actually cheaper than we would pay when the travelling fair comes to town, (dodgems £2, twister £2, go carts £5 5 mins etc, some cash some via tokens you buy) so not extortionate as some people claim, i'm not flash with my cash but neither do i go on holiday to save money!

food on site nice enough, nothing flash but does the job,not too expensive, the on -site spar is not as overpriced as i was lead to believe, but if you are that concerned just take a 5 minute drive to filey, you will pass a herron store, selling branded goods at special offer prices.

tried a meal at the plough which we passed on the way in, but uinfortuanately it was rather dissapointing, mis -matched chairs, dirty tables etc, but huge plates of food, cheap and nearly cheeful, but not the best to be honest.

if you want to watch the entertainemnt in jester's bar i suggest you get there early (6pm) as we arrived 6.15 twice and couldn't get a seat, super busy with kids all over, but that's the idea isn't it?

plenty of places to visit locally, scarborough 15 mins, whitby 30 mins, filey 5 mins. peasholm park is beautiful, with naval warfare displays (google it!!) and of course you have to try fish and chips at the seafront.

overall i / we can't fault the place, clean, tidy, friendly staff, immaculate toilet areas and pool areas, good security. jam packed of activities, bars really busy at night times but it was peak time, the entertainment is pretty low brow but it is aimed at kids, standard holiday park style. i would reccomend this place to friends and i wouldn't be frightened to go back myself either.

yes , as reported before the whole place is geared up to make money at every oportunity but nobody forces you to spend it, and if you can't entertain your kids without throwing money at them , well i would suggest that's your downfall, not that of a holiday park...........

★★★★☆

written by on 15/08/2010

My 11 year old daughter, her friend,my father and myself recently returned from visiting Primrose Valley where we had a fantastic holiday and would definately like to go back to. We stayed in a 3 bedroom superior caravan where the rooms were clean, although you had to pay extra to get your beds made upon arrival. A small downside to the caravan was that the rooms were fairly small and it didn't have much space for our clothes. The site itself is huge and contained 4 pools, one was a big pool with a slide, another was a childrens splash pool with a tipping bucket, water foutains and slides and the other two pools were outdoors. The kids had a superb time in all of these pools.
The site offered activities for the children to join in with including a climbing wall, aqua jets, bungee jumps, a fairground, ropes course and water walkers ect. Although these were only available to the children after paying a small fee, the children seemed to really enjoy participating in them so it was well worth paying the extra money.
The entertainment was excellent, and the children loved taking part in the shows such as bingo and the game show to win prizes. My daughter took part in a talent show, she loved it and won free tickets to the sea life centre! The FunStars and other staff were very friendly and helpful.
The food was good, especially the pizza. We enjoyed eating at the Mash and Barrell, except we had to wait for about 30 mins until our food arrived. The shop is a Spar, with a varitey of things for sale, and it wasn't over priced.
With just a short walk to the beach, and plenty of things to do on site, we were never stuck for ideas of how to spend the day! I thoroughly recommend Primrose Valley to anyone thinking of taking their children on a caravan holiday as my daughter and her friend really enjoyed the holiday and it was very relaxing for myself and my father as the children were both continually occupied with activities to take part in.

We arrive back yesterday from Primrose Valley, we had a lovely holiday, but on arrival we found our caravan gruby and the carpets still wet, so they changed the caravan ( we stayed in a platinum caravan) this caravan was still not as clean as I expected but they sent someone to clean this up.
other than this we really enjoyed the holiday, the park was great lots to do ( some at an extra cost) food was good especially the pizza. shop is a Spar so the same cost as anywhere.
I would recommend this holiday but I would say if you have a problem when you get there, get it sorted out the staff seemed really nice and willing to help.

Overall i had an enjoyable stay at primrose valley. It is great for kids although most things do cost extra funfair, crazy golf go karts etc .. childrens entertainment was good even thought they did show the same show twice during our stay. As for direct beach access .. i wouldnt call it direct it was a 10 min walk & about 10 - 15 min walk along the beach to filey. Bar staff are VERY slow even with no que i cld wait 10 minutes for my drinks!! The park is massive we were lucky and were only a 5 minute walk away from complex but others i spoke to have a 40 minute walk !! scarborough is also a lovley place to visit very hilly tho! caravan was nice although there was no frying pan and no net curtains on bedroom windows and one net curtain was ripped in the living room

written by on 03/04/2010

after arriving here all excited because of what other people had said about the site we were instantly brought down to earth with a big bang .when we were shown our caravan not only was it not cleaned but we were also greeted with a bowl full of dirty dishes from the previous family, dirty carpets and dirty tables. after complaining to the management we were allocated another caravan which was supposed to be the spec above the one we had payed for, i have stayed in much better.the whole site was unbelievably expensive the activities were from £3 to £6 and when you have got a few children the amount soon mounts up .the local spar on site is very very very very expensive you will need a bank loan to shop here. to say that they are supposed to have spent 5 million pound on this site there is no sign of it really. the swimming pool was not warm at all my little boy cried most of the time in there because he was cold.there was also a lot of dog poo around the site to which i found out on a couple of occasions walking back to my caravan at night.

I went in march 2009 & i am also going this march (2010) I have read alot about the place from before a went and after i left...i never thought of leaving a review but even before i arrive i'm going to...because in march 09 i went with my girlfriend and spent 100 quid o a superiour plus caravan for 3 night...and i think the fact where going back says it all...it was excellent...i only took 100 quid to spend and came home with change after wasting most of it in the bar/arcades, the fish and chips...ok wernt great but theres a shop next door, so we just got some pasta and sauce and made our own dinner the next night. and also theres a pizza shop and burger king...didn't see the point in paying a tenner for a medium sized pizza but i did get the double whoppa from burger king when they got the place working!!!

but over i enjoyed my stay...i even went to the sports lounge and watch some super sunday football on the TV while i had lunch and a bevvy for about 6 pounds....all in all a great weekend...and looking forwards to another!

“My husband and our two children (age 3 and 15 mths)...”

★★★★☆

written by girlw0nder on 25/10/2009

My husband and our two children (age 3 and 15 mths) have just returned from Primrose Valley staying for 5 days (19th - 23rd Oct). I was rather anxious about the accommodation and its cleanliness (having read certain reviews on here and other sites) as we only booked standard. However, I need not have worried as it surpassed our expectations! It was a bright, spotlessly clean, spacious and modern 3 bedroom caravan with all the amenities you could wish for - Perfect for us!
The park itself was nice and easy to navigate. The arcades were a big hit with our two - especially the Tea cups ride! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I found all the food/drinks competitively priced. The shop was a little on the expensive side but only by a few pence (no where near the £150 extra like one review stated!)
Fish & Chip shop was lovely (Fish, a good sized portion of chips and peas £5.95), Burger King and Papa John's Pizza (Very tasty!) both have good family offers. Mash and Barrel offers a great pub lunch (2 meals for £8.99) we didn't eat there but others raved about the food.
The kids entertainment was fab for my 3yr old and he was glued to the 'Zoo Troop Show' from start to finish in Jesters Bar. There were also morning play sessions that both my boys could take part in (Free Toddlers Cubs Club Age 1-4yrs) which they painted, built and played with lots of different toys.

Down sides: Swimming Pools were rather small - although great if you like having a BIG (I mean BIG!) bucket of water land on your head every 4 mins! Both my boys loved Splash Adventure pool but my 3yr old was disappointed he couldn't go down the slide - even with an adult (Meanies!) (Lockers are 20p each and you don't get this money back - but it's only a small amount to pay out, for 4 of us we only used 1 locker)
Fun Fair and Crazy Golf was a big disappointment and over priced (We've been to Butlins where fair is included in cost of holiday and this beats Haven's poor effort hands down.) It looked old and tatty. So we decided to go to nearby Flamingo Land for a fantastic day instead and spent the same amount of money!

I would definitely go back to this park and recommend it to others.

Just back from 4 day break at Primrose Valley where we had a great time for first 2 days. Then the whole family were struck down with sickness and diahorrea which totally spoiled our holiday, thinking it was an isolated case we spoke to friends who were there at the same time and they to were struck down with the illness. At the start of review I said I had a great time but was very dissapointed with the caravan as I upgraded I was expecting something a little better than basic considering our friends who didn't upgrade had a first class caravan with central heating and all the works. Had problems with fridge door kept falling off toilet leaking which spoiled some of our clothing due to bleach we put down toilet, the carpet could have done with a good scrub and clean as was rather dirty The only common dominator about the illness was we all went to the Splash Pool.
