“Touring Park”

★★★☆☆

written by Crewe on 02/06/2023

We have been to Mablethorpe for the last 4 years on the touring park, returned because we loved it. The toilet blocks were disgusting, I don’t think they have been cleaned for weeks, running out of hand towels, the showers, there was nothing good to say about them, we were there for 3 weeks and one shower cubicle had something not very nice on the back of the door it was there the whole time. The attention to litter, dog bins overflowing. That was and will be our last visit to Haven Mablethorpe

“worst haven site been too!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ceOlson52 on 21/08/2014

Caravan good, but not enough bedding, when did get more was stained and ripped. Site - overall filthy, rubbish everywhere, rat traps too! Slightly disconcerting.... Amusements, many machines broken, toys not worth money you spend to win them. Staff rude. Restaurant - expensive, dirty, had to wait over an hour on several occasions for food. Entertainment -if that's what it's called! Like bad karaoke. No special cabaret acts like before, now all run by Haven team. No children's cabaret like singing etc as before, just disco. Shop - SPAR - expensive!!!! Laundrette - expensive, £7.50 for 1 wash and dry!!! Pool - supposedly heated, but cold. Lifeguards more interested in their appearance than swimmers! Also not following their own pool rules ie no inflatables, no bombing etc. Generally very expensive holiday!!!

“Worst ever holiday”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Somervillein189 on 07/06/2014

My family and I were excited to arrive at the resort. I have 4 children an autistic child, baby and 2 other children. The caravan was dire, the stench was unbearable. The staff quickly moved us to a second caravan. This also smelt like smokers, deep fat fryers and the caravan had never been cleaned. The staff moved us to another caravan. Along side the stench we found pubic hair in all the beds, crisp crumbs and mud! We moved to another caravan. We opened the door and to no surprise we were hit with the same smell and dirt. At this point we left the resort. The resort was filthy, smelt terrible and there was no standard of cleanliness!!

“Apartment not a caravan Worse holiday we have ever had”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 25/09/2013

Mr and my husband was looking forward to this holiday as we have enjoyed the previous couple a lot. However I was reading the reviews of this camp site before we went and they were not too good so was slightly worried. Well it seems we had need to be. We were expecting a caravan and we have an apartment in B Block. B stands for Barracks!!! It took us ages to find it partly because we were not expecting to be in a building like this. The place was awful. Tired was not the word for it. The cushions on the settee were stained all over badly. You could not sit down on it without sinking down. I am partially disabled and had trouble getting up. Two of the three chairs were wobbly and need repairing. The mattress was clean but the springs were awful and my husband and I hardly had any sleep. The windows were absolutely filthy as well as dirt there was paint all over them. The freezer part of the fridge had no door, so did not work properly. The shower door was a sliding one and only fixed at the top but had a bolt. Waste of time with not having a bottom rail. The base of the shower was surrounded with mouldy sealant and really very tired. The television was a tiny screen one and with a lots of items on there was only a strip across the centre and was well as that the mirror was on the wall behind the television. It was noisy at night as some of the staff lived in a block next to us. We also could hear upstairs to us a lot.. I was hoping to go swimming to help my disabilty but we ended up staying in every evening because it was not fair to ask my husband to drive the car to the main part of the camp site after driving all day around Devon. It was too far to walk for me. So we never used the restaurant, activities or shop or swimming pool, in fact did not even know where the indoor one was. The entrance to the camp was really bad. You can see clearly the entrance to the big camp site on the corner but to find Golden Sand you had to go up and see a little notice that says Golden Sands. Another camps own sign was on the right and it was building works on the left, so the entrance was very hidden. Before I went on holiday I did email as I normally did and explained that I was disabled and could I have a place near when I could park. I explain I could not walk far and this would include stairs. When we arrived I explained to the young lady about all this and she said we could park right next to the place but no mention of steps down to the apartment was mentioned. I suppose I was lucky I did not have to go upstairs. Most of the staff were okay but there were a couple that were useless. I never intend to stay at Golden Sands ever again. I believe the place needs a total re-vamp and re-decoration. I know we were in Bronze and it was through the Sun paper. But it was not a free holiday we did have to pay for four when it was only the two of us. This included four linen ad pass charges, but I did expect it to be better than this. My husband does not want to use Park Holidays again but we have had some nice places before. So we will have to see about next year. Both of us are retired now so it is the only way we can afford a holiday but this year we came back more stressed even though we visited some lovely places in Devon and Cornwall.

“Brilliant holiday park”

★★★★☆

written by wymondhamboy on 26/08/2012

Only just got round to writing a review, but we enjoyed a weeks holiday at Haven's Golden Sands in May 2012. Despite other reviews on here, we had a great time. Check-in was handled well and on arrival the caravan was nice & clean and fully equipped. After 10 minutes of being in the caravan, a checker arrived to ensure that everything was ok with the caravan and he checked the smoke alarms, never had that happen before at any other holiday park, but it was a nice touch. I think a better design is needed at the complex as you enter through the amusement arcade but you then have to exit the other side of the amusement arcade and walk past the fairground area before you go back into the main complex with the Live Lounge, Galleon Restaurant and Show Bar. You also need to show your pass twice, once at the arcade entrance and then again at the main complex entrance, despite the fact that you can only get to the main complex entrance by entering through the arcade. We didn't eat in the restaurant or Papa John's Pizza but the menu looked good and not too expensive. Ther swimming pool was nice and clean. A bit small, but as we were there out of season it wasn't too busy. The upstairs Showbar was large but very outdated and whilst we were there, it was only used for Bingo. Apparently it is used in the main summer season when there is demand for it. The Live Lounge was very nice, not crowded and always chance to get a seat. The bar staff however (who were all quite young) were very slow at serving and seemed more intent on chatting to each other rather than working. At one point they completely run out of glasses and only then when they had run out did they decide to come out and collect glasses that had been piling up on tables all night. I never once saw a complex manager or bar manager which judging by the performance of the bar staff is desperately needed. The entertainment was good. As we don't have children we were not interested in the Bradley and Rory Childrens Shows, but when we did catch the end of them, the kids all seemed to be enjoying themselves. The Live Acts and Funstar Shows were good, some were better than others, but all in all very good. We only used the Park as a base and went out and about every day. Mabelthorpe is a nice seaside town, with a nice beach and the usual seaside style shops in the town. There is also a co-op foodstore which proved useful for picking up a few items although there is a well stocked shop on site that is fairly reasonably priced. Also a very nice Indian Take Away, Taj on Victoria Road and they deliver to the Park. We also took a trip down to Skegness for the day and went in Butlins as a day visitor. All in all a very nice holiday and we will definately be returning.

“Good family holiday”

★★★★☆

written by on 12/07/2012

I have been coming to Golden Sands for years and this will be our fourth year. After reading a lot of negative reviews I can understand why it could drive people away from this site. However if it were as bad as people say it is, me and my family would not be so eager to return. I have found that the people complaining must have been expected to be waited on hand and foot. Somebody should have reminded them that this is Haven not the Hilton. Each year we have been here we have seldom had any problems with our caravan apart from our heating not working and a bulb running out in the hallway area(which is to be expected) and not in any case did these minor issues affect our holiday. All kitchen appliances were clean, bedrooms were clean and presentable, as was the lounge. As for the site, well it's a haven site, i have found that it is so much better than other sites that I have visited (Devon Cliffs). The pool was always clean and not at all filthy and swimming in algae as some reviews have stated. The on site SPAR shop is expensive but hey, its not the end of the world, do your shopping somewhere else. There are plenty of shops in the Mabelthorpe town (heron foods / the co op). It is rather difficult to find a table in the bar area because it is so crowded but that is not their fault. If you're that bothered go earlier! The town in Mabelthorpe is a pretty little seaside town equipped with a fair, a number of pubs, fast food outlets and tacky little souvenir shops, everything you would expect a seaside town to be. The beach is gorgeous and sandy and dogs are allowed which is a bonus because my dog loves the beach, we take him around 6pm when its less crowded so we can let him off his lead and he can have a run. The food is always up to a high standard and delicious, we have never had any problems. Basically anybody complaining about lack of service and so on needs to get a grip, its a busy popular holiday park and the staff are rushed off their feet 24/7. After all the staff are not there just for you and your complaints. Its a perfect little destination and to be quite honest I am very much looking forward to returning in two weeks time.

“Terrible place with terrible 'customer care manager'”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ellen-B on 11/06/2012

My 13 year old daughter went with a friend and her parents to end up being a victim of crime! An adult male put his hand in her bag and stole her brand new ipod which she had got for her birthday 4 days before. The 'customer care manager' Amanda was rubbish. The family she went with had their car reversed into causing significent damage with no details left. I think maybe Haven should invest in CCTV! 5 days there and a victim of crime twice! Stay away from this place.

“Fanatastic Holiday To Haven, Golden Sands, Mablethorpe”

★★★★☆

written by on 24/10/2011

We have just got back from a fantastic holiday which was made all the better by one member of staff in particular. If you want to meet a great guy who will make you have a good night, say hi to Barney in the Live Lounge. The entertainment was great for the kids, who enjoyed all the characters and games available. All the adults enjoyed themselves in the evenings at the night disco's, dancing away to all the great music. There is a great range of food available which is cooked to good standard. The bars have a wide range of drinks available too. There is a great Seal Sanctuary just a 5 minunte walk from the park and the beach is just a few minutes futher. The accomodation was very clean, we couldnt complain, just need a few more glasses as there werent enough. Overall i think this is a great park for a fabulous family holiday and i would recommend it to anyone.

“good all round family holiday”

★★★★☆

written by craftychickjojo on 05/07/2011

Had a lovely week at Golden Sands - particularly helped by the good weather! Caravan clean and spacious. Extremely close to the entertainment because we had an accessible caravan due to one member of the party having a disability - both an advantage (2 mins walk and you're in the midst of it all!) and a disadvantage (bit noisy at times!) All facilities were clean and staff generally friendly and welcoming. Travel cot we paid to hire smelt of vomit but a quick call to reception had a new one brought out within half an hour. Fish and chips onsite tasty but expensive. Food in restaurant was good value for the kids meals but a bit over priced for adult meals. Felt staff could do with a bit of training in customer service! Character breakfast was great - my daughter really enjoyed it! Kids club 0-4s was more aimed at 4 year olds than the little ones. We were within 5 min walk of the wonderful beach and spent several afternoons there. A good all round family holiday. But beware - cash machine on site charges £1.25 per transaction - you do better to go in the spar pay by card and get cash back!

“One of the best Haven Sites I have been to”

★★★★☆

written by c.eaves on 01/06/2011

I was very impressed with the quality and quantity of entertainment on this site. The entertainment in the bars was excellent although there were not enough bar staff ad the queues were quite long at times. Also some of the security people were a little over zealous in their approach to customers and most of them did not smile much which made them appear unaproachable and not very friendly. The pool, fair ground and all other activities were excellent. We stayed in a 3 bedroom caravan and the facilities were excellent although the cleaning could have been better. The Fish & Chip outlet was the best fish & chips we have had and the Pizza outlet was also excellent. The restaurant on the other hand was not as good. The queues were far too long, the wait for food was far too long(over 1 hr 30 mins) and quite a few items on the menu were not available. To be honest I feel that there was not enough staff to cope with the demand. I would suggest that on the whole this was the only thing that really let the site down.

“HAVEN - GOLDEN SANDS ”

★★★★☆

written by on 16/05/2011

HAVEN - GOLDEN SANDS
Caravan/Accommodation
We stayed at Golden sands for 4 nights on 18th April, If you want to avoid the queues come 4pm book a PLATINUM caravan as check in is at 1PM, this is top the range caravan and you shouldn't be disappointed with the quality. On arrival I noticed the latch on the outside of the caravan was broken and when I contacted reception they replaced it within the hour, I also mentioned that there appeared to be 1 or 2 small stains on the lounge carpet which to be honest weren't to bad but I didn't expect it having booked there top accommodation, they came and cleaned the carpet that afternoon while we were out which I felt was a quick response.

The Beach
Very clean, beautiful and well worth a visit.

On site Facilities
The indoor pool is nice which has a flume although it was a little smaller than I expected.
The indoor play area is great, large and clean. The kids loved it. It also looked quite new as well. Overall the site is very clean and I didn't see any litter.

Funfair Rides
There is a small funfair on site which is quite expensive (2.50 per ride)! It's definitely worth having a drive/walk down to Mablethorp where there is a fair which is cheaper as well as the beach, donkey's etc.. There is also a lovely little place close to the beach where it is £3 per child, adults are free and there are a range of bouncy castles, it is really good value for money, there are benches, parasols and you're allowed to take in your own food so it's good to take a picnic, you can stay as long as you like. There is tea/coffee and snacks available as well.

Entertainment
The children enjoyed the daily/evening entertainment although my children are 5 & 3yrs, if you want a good seat it's worth getting there early as it gets VERY busy.

Restaurant
I can't comment on the on site restaurant as we took our own food. However when we went to Mablethorp which isn't far at all there was a pub called the Beck which a few people mentioned, it didn't look much from outside but when we went in it was nice, clean and contemporary. It appeared they did carvery and other food which looking at the menu sounded lovely.

Outside play area
I was quite disappointed with the outdoor play area as there were no steps to climb, more like ropes and my 5 and 3 yr old found this very difficult!

Passing through security!
One thing that did annoy me was every time you wanted to get from reception through to the main facilities you had to walk all the way round the complex and through the arcades! This was very annoying as it's quite a long walk and time consuming! Considering there is a gate which appeared to be locked which could allow you to get through to that area within seconds! When I asked I was told that it's locked to stop people from other sites coming in. They obviously just need to put another security guard on the gate to enable people to pass through.

Overall
I would go back to this site but I prefer Cornwall & Devon.

“Just returned form Golden Sands, we are a family of 4,...”

written by on 02/05/2011

Just returned form Golden Sands, we are a family of 4, two children 5 & 2
So we always want a good safe clean enviroment. Delux caravan was not good
enough, there wasnt anywhere to hang coats apart from wardrobes in the bed
rooms, no where to hang towels in the shower room, also a self catering hol
iday accomadation should have a toaster not a grill with a four inch gap so
your bread takes 6 minutes to do one side, the carpet was new throughout the van but dirty in the lounge. Also the main walk way is 4 feet away from
the van window which has no net curtains so no privacy what so ever unless
curtain are closed, No radiators so the van is freezing. So dissapointed with the caravan. The staff were polite especialy door men,Bar staff work
hard but there wasnt a glass taken from our table until late into the even
ing which is not good, and i took our plates and cuttlery away myself two
nights running. 4 out of 10 wouldnt go back but did enjoy the weather.

“We are a family with three teenagers, we've been to...”

written by on 28/10/2010

We are a family with three teenagers, we've been to Golden Sands before and really enjoyed it, but we went in October after not going for about six years. The site had changed which we didn't really like. We stayed for three nights in a three bedroom caravan, it was very cold with only a gas fire in the living room, the oven didn,t have a shelve or any baking trays. The saucepans all had loose handles, it was so unwelcoming it was the worse place I have ever stayed. The caravan was so cold my daughter slept in her clothes, dressing gown and two quilts and she was still cold. We didn't expect it to be so cold inside the caravan!

Goldensands's Comment

Written on: 28/10/2010

I was very saddened to read your comments, all caravans do come with a gas fire however we only advertise certain grades of accommodation that come with guaranteed heating throughout, which are our Prestige and Platinum range.
<br/>If the issues encountered during your stay were mentioned to us, such as no oven shelf or baking trays we would have rectified this straight away for you.

“Ok well firstly ignore the comments from people who...”

★★★★★

written by montydoggy on 24/10/2010

Ok well firstly ignore the comments from people who have made negative comments about this site, We are a family with 3 small children and first visited this particular haven site in April this year. We were so impressed and had such a good time that we came again in october and we were still if not more pleased with it, both times for 7 nights. To begin with the staff on check in were very helpful and offered us an upgrade to a platinum (the best of the best) van for an extra £20 (online was another £180) so we jumped at the offer, in april we stayed in a superior which was basic but lovely, new and clean. This time round well the van was like home from home. It blew us away such luxury and comfort with a separate living room, kitchen/diner, 3 bedrooms and a shower room and seperate w.c. and proper heating with radiators throughout. The van was immaculate, beds made up and everything we could possibly need was provided. The whole haven site is very picturesque and we were stunned how clean it was. Not once did we see litter or graffiti anywhere.
The people on here who claim its a rip off and that they try to get money out of you well get real....thats what ANY holiday does, you go to any place blackpool, london, chester anywhere and there are arcades, shops etc however ALL the entertainment, swimming, some sports sessions, kids clubs and carabet is FREE. And you know what it was amazing. The fun stars here are second to none. they can sing they can dance they can act and our 3 kids LOVED them!!! they were brilliant at the kids clubs in the day times and their energy was still high late at night dancing away and making us feel fab. Magic phil, strawberry dan, andy, craig and lolly were all huge hits with the kids and they have come away reeling off all sorts of stories about them.
Aside from the Haven park the beautiful beach is FREE and is honestly the most stunning beach in the uk we have ever visited. it is exceptionally clean and we felt incredibly relaxed and at ease there. A half hour FREE walk into mabelthorpe along the coast is a must for one of the best ice creams you will ever taste!!! (or take the bus at £1 for adults and 50p for kids under 5 free).
Another real treat is the seal sanctuary accross from haven which is lovely. And a real bargain at £5.50 for adults and £3.50 for kids. It houses seals, reptiles, birds, ponies, foxes, monkeys, porcupines, turtles, owls to name a few and it is set in one of the most beautiful areas you could ever wish to visit.
Ok back to Haven then, the swimming pool is small but very safe and well staffed and in high season there is also an outdoor pool. It was perfectly adequate for a family with young children. The changing rooms were a good size however this was the only area to me that didnt feel clean enough. one cubicle had a dirty nappy on the floor however i dont know how long this had been there and that is down to a lazy guest not using the bin provided. The activities for the children were all free apart from the teddy bears picnic which was £3.50 and this included a proper picnic basket filled with goodies that they could take away with them (you couldnt buy one as lovely for under £7-10).
Every day there was a chance for them to win certificates and medals (we came away with 2 gold medals and about 15 certificates) and other prizes like lucky bags and gifts. One day we made cakes at annabels creative kitchen which the kids loved and even this was free. The evenings were great with a kids character show every day at 6.15 and then live entertainment most of the night including another club R n B at 8pm. Our kids learnt loads of dance moves and gained a lot of confidence getting up and joining in - the funstars even got the adults to get up and dance which was great!!! (after being home for 12 hours they had found ALL the dances and songs on you tube and had their own club R n B in the lounge!!!)
Other services on site include a laundrette which was expensive at £4.50 but at least its there for an emergency, a very reasonabley priced spar shop, gift shop and food outlets - pappa johns pizza and a fish and chip shop. There is also a restaurant for proper meals. The fish and chip shop is reasonably priced but the portions are HUGE and i mean HUGE. order half what you need!!! The reataurant was Extremely good value and the food delicious. We ate out 2 nights out of the 7 and the rest of the time we enjoyed meals in our van. We stocked up at ASDA on the way.
The kids jungle gym area was new in april and its brilliant. it has a HUGE ballpool and slides and a large activity area and once again is FREE. Adults can sit and relax with a coffee while the kids wear themselves out! Again it was very very clean.
Overall the holiday was fantastic and we would definatly return again. It was brilliant value for money and we have come away with some wonderful memories and you cant put a price on that. Thank you to all the staff at Haven Golden Sands!!!

“Golden Sands Mablethorpe is such a dissappointment....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/10/2010

Golden Sands Mablethorpe is such a dissappointment. The caravans are filthy. Our caravan had not been cleaned out in ages, there were balls of dog hairs and stains all over the carpets. The microwave we had has thick with rust, a health hazard. The curtains were hanging off and the tv did not work. The cutlery were dirty and the plates had not been washed. The stench of the caravan smelt like nothing on earth. Many people we spoke to were also disgusted. This will be closed down if it carries on, like many of the pontins. If I was told I would get a filthy caravan and not one from the website I would not have gone there.

“Couldn't fault the site, facilities or the surrounding...”

★★★★☆

written by leepylee on 29/09/2010

Couldn't fault the site, facilities or the surrounding area, all were excellent. We had a budget caravan which was adequate as a base for touring the area. Minor details left a bit to be desired, cleanliness of the caravan was only superficial, debri under bed in main bedroom, food and dust behind cushions in lounge, vent missing from kitchen ceiling exposing cobwebs. Cooker was dirty and frying pan was unusable, a microwave was not expected or provided but we did think a toaster would have proved very useful. The shower was cubicle split and a leg on one of the single beds had to be screwed back on a number of times.
Although there were four adults staying in the cavavan only one key was provided which only operated one of the two door locks.
