“Paypal has changed again, and for the worse”

★★☆☆☆

written by Frasercn166 on 28/09/2023

Paypal's appearance and functionality has changed again and this time it is for the worse. It is nowhere near as easy to find what you want and how to do it. I simply do not understand the obsession for changing something that works. Over the years I have used Paypal less and less as they have progressively made it more fussy and less useable but that, I guess, is their loss.

“PayPal are not to be trusted. Ask yourself why they...”

written by dogso on 10/11/2019

PayPal are not to be trusted. Ask yourself why they removed themselves out of UK jurisdiction to trade from Luxembourg? The answer is their strategy is they take in an instant but are loath to pass on what is owed to customers; they can take weeks or months to settle what's owed, sometimes they take your money permanently; don't take my word for it - it's all out their on the WWW - pages and pages of complaints about this very dodgy outfit.

“Zero payment protection. Unsafe method of payment.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by shass on 21/04/2019

Their claim that using Paypal is a safe trusted way to pay is a joke. Purchased an item on Ebay that was faulty. Because it was from China and took so long to arrive, it had gone past Ebay's so called seller protection scheme. They said claim through PayPal (who it turns out work hand in glove with Ebay. Opened a case with Pay pal, waited... no communication at all. They closed the case without any notification.. just marked closed in sellers favour. THERE IS NO PROTECTION WITH PAYPAL. A complete waste of money. Account being closed. Safer with Amazon and a visa card.

Avoid like a plague! They are holding the funds without any sensible reason and can't even give explanation why - they are holding the funds for DELIVERED order and charging absolutely scandalous fees !!!!! Don't use this company ever - I would rather do not sell items than go via Paypal.

“PAYPAL REFUSES TO CLOSE ACCOUNTS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Grady462 on 29/03/2019

* I have had a bad experience getting a refund for a product that came out of China and then returned back to the address that was listed on the package. I even kept the return receipt and PayPals Resolution Dept. came back in the favor of the Seller twice before refunding me after a third investigation in which I still supplied the tracking number for my return of product back to the sellers address on the package which said, "Returns to this address" which was an address in the United States. The seller stated they would not refund me because I did not return it to China but the package specifically gave a return address in the United States. During all that investigation I paid off my PayPal Credit Account which is owned by Synchrony Bank, except for the $57.00 Dollars that was being re-investigated for the third time, which finally came back in my favor. Now, to close this account after that long drawn out investigation on that case for a refund, PayPal refuses to close my account after receiving an e-mail from their Investigation Dept. (see e-mail from PayPal at bottom of page). When I tried to close my account after I was refunded the $57.00 I was promoted to call PayPals Customer Service Dept. and had to go through a website Maze of prompts just to get the phone number to the customer service Dept. When I called the number I was put on hold by Reps. through several various departments totaling 5 hours of hold times during the several phone calls to PayPal to close my account. One time I was told I cannot close my account because my Bank, a credit union, would not release the dispute I had on my PayPal account for $57.00. I called my bank and they said they did NOT have an action that is being disputed through my PayPal account so there is no reason that PayPal should not be able to close my account, unless they don't want to and are making up excuses NOT to Close my PayPal account. The second call back to PayPal to tell them my bank has nothing to do with why my PayPal account can't be closed, I was put on hold again for another two hours, while each representative promised they could do something about this and then announced they could not help me close my PayPal account and switching me to the person that could after another LONG hold period, just to find out that another rep. higher up in the chain had to reach even higher up the chain to get a different representative to close my Account. After all that, PayPal refused to close my account, for no reason that was reasonable other than some made up reasons NOT to close my account. Hello, We reviewed the information regarding the case below and have decided in your favor. We’ve issued a refund to your PayPal Credit account for the disputed amount as well as any interest and fees related to the transaction. Please allow up to 5 days for this refund to be reflected on your account.  This case is now closed. We are truly sorry you experienced a problem with this transaction, but hope you are happy with the outcome. Transaction details: Dispute Case ID Transaction Amount:$57.00 USD  Dispute Amount:$57.00 USD  Transaction ID: Transaction Date: June 24, 2018    Thanks, PayPal

“Pay a fee but not covered by sellers protection £650...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jane8988 on 04/07/2018

Be careful when using Paypal. I have used them for over 10 years and paid thousands in sellers fees. However, I sold a phone to someone and paid my fee to cover me on sellers protection insurance, to then find the buyer told their bank they never received the phone and the money was taken straight out of my account without any time for me to prove the phone was delivered and signed for. I have since had multiple fights with them where I received automated responses saying I wasn't covered by their sellers protection. I was then contacted 7 times a day by their debt collection team who were threatening me with bay lifts if i didn't pay the £650 by a certain date. I am now out of pocket £650 and without a phone. No help what so ever from PayPal. I will never use them again.

Stay well away from paypal. Of course they are conected to EBAY (spit). We sold a music player, perfect condition when suddenly the buyer did the usual and filed a dispute saying"its not working" utter BS. Anyway they sided with them and we lost money. Be wise and dont let these fools handle any of your hard earned money.

“Utterly Scandalous”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MekhiSharpe on 28/05/2018

This company is an absolute joke - scandalous exchange rates and horrific charges on receiving money in other currencies from abroad. Be very careful if you attempt to do anything other than use it for very simple buying/selling on eBay. Impossible to get any response from them and impossible to actually speak to someone at the company. Furious that this is 2018 and still consumers are having to put up with this form of monopolised rubbish. They've got you over a barrel if you use eBay and they are taking the absolute mick out of anyone involved in international trading.

Paypal are your typical "disruptive internet phenomena."
Their approach to business culture is entitled and are quite happy to set themselves up as being above the law and unaccountable.

I was advised 3 months' after a paypal transaction that the buyer's account was used without their permission, they set up an appeal and won! How can I be held accountable for their security breach and I have also lost the item I sent in good faith. A total sham and paypal have no clue in this scenario always finding in the buyers favour.....rubbish!

“First class service which we have used for years.”

We use both Paypal and Shopify. Paypal has been trouble free for all the years we have used it and I particularly like the new cash advance system again is easy to apply and swiftly dealt with. Great service overall which we would recommend.

“Phishing Emails”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Headuc449 on 27/10/2017

I have been getting phishing emails related to Paypal for several weeks. The emails have been forwarded to paypal.co.uk and acknowledged. Yet there hasn't appeared to be any action to supress the emails. Very disappointing respends from a financial service to a fraudulent act.

“Paypal give opportunity for online crime”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 1989Spence on 13/10/2017

I do not recommend Paypal based my experiences. Paypal give opportunity for online crime as their buyer protection don't cover certain area. I purchased a CV service online I wasn't sure it's a scam. The supplier asked for paying his service in advance. I paid £100.00 for it. However, he didn't provide services which he told me. Whenever, you call him he never replied you. I have to claim my money back via Paypal, but Paypal told me their buyer protection policy doesn't cover this area. I lost £100.00. This supplier is continuing make money. So please do not use Paypal. It wouldn't fully protect you.

“Paypal should be stopped from trading in the U.K. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nqSaunders375 on 22/04/2017

it became necessary to make a claim from Paypal for goods purchased from an ebay trader which arrived previously stripped of major components. I opened a case with Paypal and was told to return the items. This was agreed. The seller however had NOT registered their address and Paypal were notified of this at the time of opening the claim. I left it a couple of days for the seller to update their user information but I then found when trying to log back into paypal that my email and password were rejected and would not log me into the paypal website. It was no coincidence that this occurrence lasted for the entire duration of the claim so I could neither contact or add anything further in writing to my case. After the expiry date of the claim, my account and password were unlocked. Paypal insisted that they sent me emails during this time and that now they themselves had now closed the case and suggested I work things out with the seller. However, no emails were ever discovered in either outlook or on the notifications of the Paypal website. I have no doubts whatsoever that their staff have deliberately and consistently lied throughout the case and that this was a deliberate calculated scheme on the part of this company in order to avoid aherring to their own terms of contract. Paypal knows that being registered in Luxembourg that it is mostly outside of the U.K. banking law, but it is still a bank nevertheless. It is trading as a bank in the U.K. and it should be investigated as such for this sharp practice. In light of what has happened I strongly feel other people should be warned of their behavior as there could easily be millions of other customers in the U.K. have experienced the same as myself and paypal are obtaining proffitt illegally from this practice.

“Avoid at all costs ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mckenzie165 on 23/12/2016

Shocking experience . Hold onto refunds for weeks . Senior management arrogant and rude . Use the excuse of a technical error to hold back refunds from retailers for weeks , I had a refund of £169 pending for over 8 weeks despite complaining over 5 times . Feel sorry for frontline customer service agents who are very apologetic and polite but their hands are tied and have to escalate to management who have zero customer service skills . I eventually got money back and tried to close my account only to be refused with message transactions still pending - another technical glitch apparently escalated again to management . Forced to cancel direct debit to prevent them taking money from my account until I can close account. Can't help feel these are deliberate tactics ! Shameful company who say they don't have to respond to complaints for 28 days !

“Get a credit card instead. Gives you better buyer...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JaylenReynolds1969 on 16/12/2016

I regret not reviewing review centre before buying through PayPal. They give the impression your money will be safe when buying through them - what a bunch of lies. I bought some furniture from ACHICA and paid through PayPal. I only received the table base and sofa top (no legs). When I didn't receive a response from the seller I filed a claim. PayPal offered a refund providing I sent back the furniture and pay the shipping! When I refused stating this is not fair they just stated they can't release the refund unless they have a tracking number. So the idiot I spoke to was just following some flowchart and there was no room to individual review of each case. Also the reason I was given for why one of my other products couldn't be returned was that it was part of the larger order and unless I sent all the items back and paid all the postage they couldn't release the refund. It's very clear they pretend they protect you but in reality your money is not safe with them. They only benefit you have is that you don't have to key in card details all the time. My recommendation will be to get a credit card in stead. Some of them had better buyers protection than PayPal.

“Kept £600 for 21 days and charged me £25 ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Saffy1964 on 04/12/2016

Received a payment through eBay. The buyer collected the goods and wrote a positive review. But Paypal refuse to release the £637 for another 3 weeks! And are charging me £25 commission. Impossible to get a sensible answer from Paypal customer service. Emails are replied to with an automated response, and I spent 30 minutes waiting on the phone to talk to someone. I'll be closing my Paypal account as soon as I get the cleared funds Dreadful!!!

“TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 468Hopper on 30/11/2016

I received an email about a recurring payment through paypal that I NEVER agreed to. When I challenged the payment through paypal they brushed me off saying I must have agreed to it and wouldn't be able to provide protection for me and/or refund the monies to me. There was no email sent out to confirm this alleged "recurring" payment and the customer service was so poor that I hope to God they change their procedures to avoid other customers suffering a wrongful debit such as I have. I used to favour paypal but I will never recommend them to anyone again. They are supposed to be secure but they can't even get basic customer service right. DO NOT USE.

“Beware charge back rip off”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jdh2310 on 22/07/2016

I sold a garage door on Ebay £30 the guy who bought it paid by Paypal no prob there. A few weeks later I received a charge back notification from PP also the buyer contacted me to say that he had probs with his bank and they were requesting the charge back. He,the buyer, brought me £30 in cash because PP had taken the £30 from my PP account, fair enough so far, BUT then the b------ds took £14 from my account to cover the admin cost of the charge back. PS Initially they asked me for proof of posting for the Garage door !!!! Tried contacting by phone, no chance its easier to try Lord Lucan's number at least you know he won't answer! Stay clear of Paypal where ever possible.

I am wondering if PayPal would be useful for me - my sports club is small and we do not have credit or debit card facilities. We run 4 competitions each year and it would help to receive the entry fees by paypal - is this possible?

would not suggest Paypal, they have habit of suspending accounts and then you have a major problem getting your money, also you are not protected in the UK by our authorities. For your limited use, better off getting a Virgin pre paid mastercard/visa, you get an online account. Your entrants can pay by going into a retailer that does paypoint, buying a 360money voucher and you can enter the code number online and the money is yours immediately. You can then withdraw from an ATM whenever you want, very simple and its safe because its VIRGIN MONEY
