Activated sky Sports 1 to watch British Lions play Australia at middle of june. ceased broadcasting sky sports at end of june but got charged full months money of £25.99 phoned to complain and basically got told, tough!Plus they had me on hold for over 5 mins when I was paying for the call. AND you can activate any channel you like on your internet account, but you have to phone to cancel a channel and get charged for your phone call. RIP OFF!!!

I bought a top up tv card to watch the odd premiership match. After 5 months they only had about 3 games on at the peak of the season. Now they don't even show any premiership games. I ditched this and have gone to sky. I wouldn't touch go anywhere near this company.. Besides they probably won't exist anymore by the time I have fininshed typing this.

Also just sent this email to customer services

Hi
Your company is a disgrace. I bought a top up tv card to watch ESPN(1 decent game in 4 months).
Then ESPN withdraw from showing premiership games so I cancel my direct debit(I couldn't find a contact no for your customer services).

Anyway I end up with a Debt Recovery Agency trying to get £23 out of me(£23 for what, freeview!!).

Anyway I asked the Debt Recovery bloke what your no was and I managed to get through. Your customer service staff was the most arrogant person I have ever spoken to and started bleating on about bad credit.

Anyway I have paid the payment and given you a very bad review. So have 100 other people who have had the same problems as me.

Anyway your company will not exist in 6 months time as I have got a 12 month package for £25 per month for 6 sports channels(premiership and not spanish).

So goodbye and good riddance.

“Rock bottom company”

written by angma on 27/04/2013

I tried top up TV, setting it up was a nightmare, and after a few months viewing, decided this was not for me. Now comes the tricky part - Cancellation! When I phoned them, they promised special offers galore to try to get me to stay with them, but I refused and was charged a cancellation fee. Just when I thought I had seen the back of this outfit, they charged my card for another months subscription. I had to make another call to them on an 0871 number and pay through the nose yet again. So, to sum up there is nothing that I can see as being worthwhile about this company whatsoever, the way they treat their customers is diabolical, and there are many people out there who have had the same experience.

“awful top up tv ”

This was my first ever QVC order. I was tempted by the "clearance price" for top up tv with 2 months free sports channels - but it seems you get less than you pay for. I ordered in on Wednesday evening and it arrived promptly this morning (Friday). Impressive looking packaging. Opened it up plugged it in - it all works. Then the problems begin - trying to get the top up tv. Top up tv seem to have an extensive range of "0844" numbers and "0871" numbers. There's one in a paper insert in this box, a different on when you look at the channel you want access to and several more on the website. All of these numbers are consistent - they ring twice and a message says "sorry we have been unable to connect your call" but still charge me 25 p each time (on my mobile). I tried to use the website address given in the paper insert. (after spending a while filling it all out - and providving the number underneath the freeview box) it tells me there has been a problem and give me yet another 0844 number to call - which wont connect. This will be going straight back to QVC. I thought I was buying a bargain - but it appears that it might be actually cheaper to go to the live games rather than watch it on "freeview" - and less frustrating - even if your team loses than dealing with "top up tv" - they should be just called "top up" (for their bank balances - they dont provide any tv). I know QVC are separate to them, but I feel they have a duty to check out their suppliers properly. Buying with confidence? I dont think so - I may get the purchase cost back, but the phone charges and the frustration? not worth it."

Having thought that a few extra channels at a reasonable price was a good, I proceeded with the BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER, no service, rude customer service (when you can finally find a valid number for them), I cancelled my Direct Debit (which got their attention), just today I got a £70 debt collection letter (which I paid, unfortunately!), NEVER EVER TOUCH TOP UP TV (you WILL regret it!)

“My Dad's terrible experience with Top Up TV”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ITOA on 07/02/2012

My Dad had Top Up TV as at the time he felt that SKY was an expense as a pensioner that he could do without. Howevever, he simply was not getting the TV choice he required and as a family we insisted he used some of his pension to pay for SKY Sports and enjoy what he used to love playing as a spectator from his own armchair. All went well and we e-mailed and phoned to cancel his Top Up TV payment of £25 per month. After numerous attempts he cancelled his Direct Debit and amazingly this elicited a response within days! The response was a very unpleasant letter indicating that as he was in a contractual period failure to pay would result in their debt collection agency being alerted. It turns out that as Dad accepted the new Top Up box that came through the post unasked for this tied him in to a 12 month contract. My Dad who is 88 this year was virtually in tears when he received this letter on Friday both my husband and I spent hours on the phone trying and eventually contacting Customer Service (a total contradiction in terms). My husband asked if he could pay any amount they said was outstanding by Debit Card and at first they said Dad could only set up a Direct Debit again and pay in this way from Februaury to July inclusive. I phoned again as this would have pushed him over the edge and Ashleigh (I'm not allowed to give you my surname) said that we could send a cheque with a letter. I tried to put the point that at nearly 88 surely a supervisor or manager could allow me to pay on Dad's behalf over the phone to save him further distress, but to no avail! So my dear old Dad.....a D.Day veteran who has never owed a penny in his life, worked every day until he retired on his 65th birthday has had to write a £150 cheque to pay until July 2012 and is at this moment living in dread of the message not having got through to TUTV and the bailiffs knocking at his door. No wonder the company is registered in Jersey, if they can earn £150 by just making life so difficult for a pensioner without a voice they can afford it!

I have been with these people for 10 months, waiting for the 1st of march to able to cancel my 12 months contract. They withdrew channels a couple of months ago and did not put alternative ones. If you want to pay to essentially watch freeview or very old episodes of popular series, then this would be ok. I have disconnected the box, just waiting a few more weeks to cancel. Customer service people not nice in general,

“Top Up TV Customer Service”

★★☆☆☆

written by LANDEWEDNACKLAD51 on 30/01/2012

Having been dissatisfied with ESPN subscribed through Top Up TV, I went on their web site on 3 Jan 2012 to get contact details. Much to my dismay there is no telephone number, email address or postal address for them. Obviously they don't want you to contact them. I then found some old correspondence with a telephone number on which when I tried to contact then I found was out of date. I then googled top up tv phone number and found a number on another web site. On phoning Top Up TV it took awhile to be connected, then I was faced with an automated service but ended up speaking to someone on the technical side, I told him I wanted to cancel my subscription and he then went off on some sales speal, although I kept on telling him I wasn't interested all I wanted to do was cancel my subscription. After some 15 minutes he said he would transfer me to the cancellation team, he then told me they were busy and I'd have to phone back. I asked him if they could phone me back and he said this was not possible, I then asked him to note my records that I wished to cancel my subscription, he informed me this wasn't possible. I then rang off and immediately wrote 1st class to their Kirkcaldy address, which took me some time to find as it's not shown on their web site. Nearly 4 weeks later, I received a call from Top Up TV customer service section asking me if I was happy with the service. It transpires that this was not a result of my letter which has yet to be acknowledged but a routine call on their part. I then told the member of staff the problems I had and that I was very disappointed with the service. He tried to get me to change my mind and told me they had no record of my cancellation. I told him I'd had enough of the shoddy service and would he mark my records that I wished to cancel my subscription only to be told I would have to speak to "cancellations". I put the phone down they can do what they like. I would re=iterate other comments on this site, DO NOT TOUCH THEM THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

“Do not touch with a barge pole!!”

written by on 06/01/2012

Top Up TV is all a massive joke, i have had 3 boxes and 1 scart lead been sent to me. (I even had to argue for them to send me another scart lead as they say the warranty is only for the Freeview box not its accessories!) All 3 boxes have done the exact same thing, they all seem to have been resetting. So when your sat watching TV it would just automatically go off for 2 minutes then come back on for 30 seconds. I then called them and spoke to their technical team who the advised me that there devices are all working properly and that it’s my signal where the problem arises from. I had to pay for an Engineer to come out and have a look at the aerial and surprise surprise the aerial was fine (99% strength). After having the engineer out another call was made to Top Up TV and the advised me that someone would call me from their Technical department within 48, and guess what?……. No call arrived!! Once again I called Top Up TV and wanted to cancel but they say I have entered into a 12 month contract, which yes I have but at the end of the day they are providing a service that doesn’t work. I told them I would cancel the Direct Debit with my bank and they told me that they would take me to court, which from a customer service point of view is appalling. Please do not use this company they are a waste of time!

“Customer service - what customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/09/2011

I bought a Sharp box a few years ago; it was the the only freeview+ box in the shop. I had no intention of signing up and paying to watch programmes that weren't worth watching when they were free. In any case I choose what to watch, not someone else. The thing that really annoys me is that you cannot delete channels (how many shopping channels do I need? none is quite sufficient), something that I can do on my other three freeview devices. The only option is to use the favourites feature. Only it is not there. It is in the manual, but not on the box. I rang TUTV they were quite rude and said that as I didn't subscribe, they won't talk to me and said that it was a Sharp problem. I rang Sharp (their phone number is free) and they werte quite helpful, but in the end agreed that this was a firmware problem and that TOTV is responsible for over the air upgrades. So I rang TUTV again and this time they were even ruder as presumably I was not a customer and were quite adamant that they were not responsible for the upgrades, it is down to Sharp. Now someone is responsible for the upgrades, they don't just appear - Sharp or TUTV. I think I know who to believe. If I was even ever so likely to be a customer, I will never be one now. Rubbish

We are on our umpteenth box! Even though we pay for additional channels we do not get the top up service half the time - the boxes do not record and one box continually said hard disc missing! We are currently trying to cancel our contract - the company try and blame the signal etc but the boxes do not even have the record facility they are supposed to have - a bit of bad weather freezes the picture The boxes seem to work when they arrive and then deteriorate or stick /glitch constantly - please do yourself a favour - go for another option!

“Awful service and even worse customer service!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by benjyyy on 16/08/2011

I originally signed up to ESPN as part of a free 3month deal in January and although the picture wasn't great (very compressed) I decided to keep it at least to the end of the football season. I don't actually live in the house it is in it is my parents house and my dad likes to watch the football and the odd rugby match. When I talked to customer service about quitting she offered me 2 months more free ESPN (or so I thought). My parents got Sky installed in July so no longer would be using the freeview box. I forgot to cancel until recently and I checked my bill expecting the £9.99 to be debited again after the free period. The debit was actually for £20.99. I had not got anything free at all, I was still charged £9.99 for the 2 months previous which had gone up to £20.99 after that. I had explicitly explained to the woman that I didn't live in the house and we had Sky in another room so I didn't want any other channels yet she added these 'TV favourites'(which seems a rip-off) to my account as well! When I rang up to enquire about this and cancel my account the man I spoke to was very ignorant. He assured me that the woman I had previously dealt with was "long-serving and trusted" and that he had "listened to other dealing with other customers and she was very thourough" So now I have to pay another £20.99 charge as they require 30 days notice to cancel. All in all I'm out about £50 after being lied to on the phone. Avoid this company like the plague, I'm truly disgusted with the service!

Had nothing but problems with this company. Poor value for money and poor customer service. As stated in some of the below reviews, they will do everything they can to prevent you from cancelling. I highly recommend that you do not bother wasting your time or money with this company.

“I used TUTV for many years but have now cancelled the...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 23/03/2011

I used TUTV for many years but have now cancelled the service as it no longer seems to offer value for money.
I think I'm right in saying that the price has increased twice in a year. Given that 3/4 of the programming was deleted straight away it doesn't seem worth paying for anymore.
As others have said the programming is pretty poor (ten year old episodes of American shows anyone?)plus the same shows are repeated over and over again. (Fawlty Towers is a classic, but how often would you want to watch it?)
I guess the final straw for me was the large number of adverts which filled up the box; often as many as seven at a time for channels I don't want - ESPN & Sky Sports, showing sports I'm not interested in.
When I complained to TUTV about this I was told it was part of the deal that I had to receive "marketing". They then told me that I could clean-install the box, although quite how this would get rid of the ads is not clear as presumably they would just come back again.
For many years TUTV used to show some unusual sports when they took selected shows from Eurosport: I used to enjoy watching winter sports and the rallying. This certainly made the package worth paying for.
As others have remarked the Thomson box was truly terrible.
I ditched it and bought a Bush which proved far more reliable. Indeed I still use it as my Freeview box.
Unfortunately you still can't totally erase all traces of TUTV as you still get the small banner at the top of the programme guide, but not intrusive.
All-in-all TUTV is good idea, but poorly executed in my opinion.
Just my small contribution to the debate!
Nigel
