The Siemens SL45 is superb, even at 96Kbps the MP3 sound quality is brilliant. The docking transfer thing is poor, but from what I have read it maybe possible to use IRDa. Also I was wondering whether you could use parallel/usb into docking station rather than serial. A good site to look at is http://www.sl45.com/

I had the Siemens SL45 mobile phone for eight months now it it never failed me except in one instance where I accidentally dropped it from my belt. The multimedia card got erased, and it took me more than three hours to restore the backup of the contents from my PC.
Otherwise, I do not see any competition for this machine which has a full featured organizer, MP3 player and a reliable phone… Read Full Review

I bought a brand news SL45 in Australia, I took it home and eager to test the quality of the MP3 player..it turned out to be faulty, the PLAY button is pressed, I get a distorted noise, the next day I rang Siemens 1800 numbers and waited for 40 minutes to get the customer service.
After describing the problem, I was denied and claimed that the fault was from the recording of the MP3 songs, nothing to do with the SL45 MP3 player even though I expalined that the song that came with the phone… Read Full Review

i was also a nokia user for 2 years before i got this . i couldnt resist, the address book is very functional, screen size is huge( easier wap navagation) menus are easy to navigate, back color is very cool, its tiny and is the most stylish phone ever. its very hard to fault this phone but i suppose if i have to then the mp3 transfer from the pc to the phone is unbearably slow and the flash card could do with being twice or three times its capacity. all in all a class act , hard to improve on (… Read Full Review

Features are excellent as one will know from looking at the spec of this Siemens mobile phone.
Looks are excellent too.
The main point i wish to put accross is for those who use text messaging a lot. It is a very slow process to write / send / store / read text messages.
eg -when receiving a text message, or when opening the inbox you will have to wait a good 5 seconds before the SL45 can be shown. there will be a 'please wait' screen which comes up for too often and for far too long.

I had a Nokia 9110 before this phone. When i got this i was excited cuz it played mp3s. Well uploading mp3s onto the phone is very unpractical. You upload at a speed of 14,400kbs a second which is more then twice as slow as a 33.6 dial up connection. This means you will have to keep your phone connected to the pc uploading songs for hours! VERY unpractical! That wasn't the only problem. I got a lot of Memory Card Errors and the phone jammed and rebooted a lot for no reason. I thought I was the… Read Full Review

Having previously owned many of the Nokia range, I was at first reluctant to purchase the Siemens. I'm glad I did. The features available on this phone are fantastic, I find it more useful to save texts and voice notes to the flash memory rather than MP3s. At first, I was not too impressed, but I must say a week into it, I would never trade this phone for another. The battery life is exceptionally good and it the fact that it actually has a stub aerial is noticeable. I'm still having fun… Read Full Review

Having owned many mobiles in the past including the Ericsson R380, Nokia 6210, 8810 ,7110..
...I can safely say this is probably the best phone on the market (pending the release of the SL45i)
The first thing that will grab you is the phone's appearance...sleek, slender , stylish & classy. It's looks alone will sell the phone in bucket loads. Beneath that sexy exterior lies the most comprehensive bundle of features ever encountered in this class of mobile. For the avid Techy it is a dream come… Read Full Review

I was worried about whether or not i would like this phone after being a dedicated Nokia user for 2years, but i was pleasantly suprised. The biggest problem was the slow, awkward text message system that slowed down the speed i could send my txt messages. Using my old Nokia phone (8210) i could send a txt message in half the time. The MP3 & dictaphone facilities on the SL45 have very good sound quality and are easy to use. The dictaphone also allows you to record your telephone calls and… Read Full Review

On purchasing the Siemens SL45, it worked wonderfully well for a couple of days till it literally hung accessing the MMC's addressbook. Had to format the MMC and then reload the address book, luckily had a backup. This happened thrice in the following week, so contacted the dealer and got a replacement. This piece gave it back within a day as the display had a problem, it used to fade in and out!!! Have returned it and now awaiting replacement. Anyone had similar problems to above?? I am very… Read Full Review

The Siemens SL45 is the best mobile phone I have ever owned. Quality built, excellent sound. Calendar & dictaphone with large memory is a must now...other manufacturers note!
My only criticisms of the SL45 are the sync-station is poor quality, the phone pops (plops) out. Transfer between Pc is only by serial cable (Siemens...who uses serial these days?) which is slower than slow.
Wish list...to be able to listen to MP3s whilst charging (physically impossible)… Read Full Review

when i brought my mobile phone, an S35i mobile phone, the SL45 had not come out.
my phone is a peach. however, when i looked to upgrade it i stopped and thought: "why?". i mean the SL45 only really has an MP3 player & addded lightness over the S35i. if you were me i would buy my phone again (the Seimens S35i) and get an additional MP3 player!… Read Full Review

I am in the mobile phone industry and consider myself a reliable source for information on mobile products. The Siemens SL45 is terrific. Once you get used to the fairly large menu, and understand how to use it with pc, you will find this to be a wonderful piece of communication / organisation equipment. Even MP3 recorded at a low 64bit rate will playback with incredible clarity. This device has several useful applications. Voice note, answer messages (those can be very fun), Calendar. All of… Read Full Review

If you are busy, you can record a voice answer message to answer calls with like "i'll ring you back in 10 min", instead of diverting the call to voicemail.
MP3 player sounds great,
Create your own operator logos and start up animations or download from the web to your computer then transfer to the multimedia card.
Ring tones are also available from www.sl45.com
