I had seen adverts for the Capital One Master card everywhere. Deciding on applying for one was easy, as it would only be used in an emergency! I applied and opted for the payment protection plan as well. Interest is 2.248% a month, so it is a nice little earner for the Bank. My limit started at £200, but it has been steadily rising since then. I did not have any CCJ's when I applied.
5% of the balance has to be paid off every month, and on £900 that is £45. If a payment is late, £20 is… Read Full Review

I've had my Capital One credit card for a good few years, and in that time I've managed to get my credit back on track.
Firstly, I took the card because of bad credit in the past. I was never great with payment dates etc. Capital One however helped me with this.
The charges for missing payments or going over the limit were sky high. After a few discrepancies, I realised that I needed to make sure I sorted it out, and paid on time all the time, or I'd be up to £45 out of pocket in a month.
I… Read Full Review

I would not recommend a Capital One credit card as they are far too keen to slap charges and interest on to your account if you was slightly over the credit limit. Also, when you call customer service you can barely understand a word that they are saying as they don't speak very good English… Read Full Review

CI needed a credit card for things like internet purchases, and at the time Capital One was my only option, and I must agree that if you do have a bad credit history, then this card will help to rebuild it, as long as you make sure you make your repayments on time. It's not as bad as the Vanquis card at least! So I'd recommend it to anyone who is able to meet their payments on time, and anyone who needs to build their credit rating. If you're like me though and have never learned how to deal… Read Full Review

I have had a Capital One credit card for about a year. I made full payments every month without fail, and now, for the first time, I forgot to pay, so they have slapped a £20 charge on me for going overdue, and that has now sent me £6.50 over my credit limit, so no doubt they are going to charge me for that now too. Thanks. So, I tried to call to pay over the phone. After 10 minutes of pressing buttons to actually get to speak to a human being, I was told they were closed and to call back… Read Full Review

The Capital One credit card APR is way too high, and if you go over your limit once, or make a late payment once, then that's it! They'll give you the highest APR they can find, and they will not lower your APR until about a year or so later, which is very unfair… Read Full Review

I have been off work with sickness for a few months and have been paying off what I can on my Capital One Classic credit card. After many phone calls to India the interest is still running away with me.
I live in Sussex, and last week, DONT ASK ME HOW, Capital One rang my daughter asking if I was there? She doesn't have a Capital One account, never has had, and I have NEVER given them my daughters telephone number! I want this investigated!… Read Full Review

As an 18 year old, I needed to build my credit rating up. I decided to apply for a Capital One classic credit card to do so. I was given an instant decision online within one minute. After I applied, the credit agreement was sent quickly. Once I sent it back, I received my card a couple of weeks later.
Capital One gave me a responsible credit limit based on my circumstances at that time. I have contacted Capital One with queries relating to my account, and have found the customer service very… Read Full Review

The Capital One Classic Credit Card is a card for people who have bad credit or very low credit scores. It's rubbish!! They are kind of saying that no one else will touch you, so take it or leave it! I told my sister to leave it! if you miss a payment they harass you by telephone. I told my sister to change her telephone number and pay the card off. They only gave her a credit limit of £200!… Read Full Review

The Capital One Classic Credit Card proved to be good for me. My credit rating was absolutely shocking due to shear stupidity when I turned 18 and was like a kid in a sweet shop, my fault but mistakes I paid dearly for with my credit rating. Anyway, I applied for one of their Classic cards on the "we'll say yes if you do" scheme, where by as long as you are not bankrupt and are on the electoral register and not on a CIFAS fraud database, you are guaranteed to be accepted, but you may need to… Read Full Review

Capital One are very slow to apply payments to accounts, often needing 4 to 5 days to apply credit.
Statements are sent very close to the due payment date, so if you are away, the payment is often late, which is in their favour.
They do supply money back on some credit cards however… Read Full Review

Basically, I'm a US citizen and came to London to study. Since the exchange rate was so bad between 2003- present, I couldn't use my US credit card, and I needed to build credit to get a flat off campus.
Capital one and NatWest were the only ones to give me credit cards. Capital One has never charged me for being over the limit as long as it was paid off before the statement date. Whilst the interest rate is high and the limit is low, it has helped me build my credit and ended up being… Read Full Review

I paid all outstanding bills with Capital One every month, and always on time. They say it takes 5 working days to process, when it only takes three. One month I paid in more than they asked, so the card was over limit (in my favour). The next month they charged an extra £60 for a late payment and interest charges??… Read Full Review

Have had nothing but problems with the Capital One Classic Credit Card. When I originally set it up it took so long because there were all sorts of admin errors made on there part so ended up calling them many times to sort it out. Once I had the card it took ages to sort out the direct debit, they said it was set up and then the money didn't come out and they tried to charge me interest. It took about 4 months all in all to get everything running smoothly, and to top it all off customer… Read Full Review

In the years I spent at Uni I got myself in serious debt, and had many CCJ's and many visits from bailiffs etc. So my credit just didn't exist, even the high street banks wouldn't give me a current account, but capital one classic accepted me and even though there rates are on the high side they where very handy in repairing my credit, after only 7 months I was being offered credit cards from most other companies and was accepted by the ones that I decided to change to, this card is great for… Read Full Review

Customer service is awful - 90% of reps don't seem to speak clear English; I got charged a $25 over my limit fee due to being $.02 over my limit, which was caused by the interest being added on to my balance which would have been offset had they taken off the charge that I was disputing when they were supposed to. I contacted them and went up the chain of command, threatening to close the account because of this $25 charge, and they all waved goodbye - absolute horrible experience - wouldn't… Read Full Review
