tried to pay my account in full on more than 3 separate occasions but because of an egg technical error I couldn't pay using my debit card. Eggs error but they still charged me for late payment without any compromise or refund. Closed my account and will never ever return.

I had a card with Egg for years, and never had a problem, and I stuck with them because I used to get 1% cashback. One year I was moving home, so I used my card a lot, which was cleared every month by Direct Debit. So when they told me I had reached their cashback limit of £200 I was hardly surprised. As I only had to wait another month before the the start of the new cashback year I switched to another card just for that period. Egg then wrote me a letter and said that due to their annual reviews of use of my credit card they were reducing my credit limit by £5000 to a measly £500. This was all because I was costing them money. I have always cleared the account every month and never went over my limit, but because they didn't want me as a customer they came up with all these reasons why they were reducing my amount - inactivity (1 month!) credit rating (which patently was not true) Also, they used to ring me up regularly when I spent a few pounds at my local shop to check if it was Kosher, and yet when I went abroad and bought a very expensive item out of the blue they never queried it at all. I advise anybody who is thinking of going with Egg to think again. They only want you if you if they can make money out of you. Stay well clear!

I was a long term account holder with Egg and last year they wrote to me to tell me they weren't issuing me with a new card because of the way I ran my account, or words to that effect. I was making the minimum payment, which wasn't ideal but suited my circumstances at the time. I hadn't missed any payments.
The letter said they were doing this because they are "a responsible lender". So I thought, oh right, I must be irresponsible then! But then I thought back to the time when I applied for the credit card when I was a student with virtually no income, the time Egg issued me with the card. Back then I was too naive to appreciate the misery that credit cards can cause, but Egg weren't, yet they still gave me the card and then had the audacity to patronise me about responsibility!
Anyway, I finally paid off the balance yesterday so they can take a long walk off a short pier.
Avoid Egg at all costs! If it was possible to award zero stars then I would have.

worst credit card in UK market
i used this card from 2002 - in 2007 they suddnly closed my card without any indication.i paid off and closed my contract.now my main credit card is
co operative credit card .
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has fined Egg Banking plc £721,000 for serious failings in its sales of credit card payment protection insurance (PPI).
FSA should ban this from UK market.

Egg was a fantastic company with the best customer service and BT deals while it was owned by the Prudential. Once it was bought by City Corp and integrated into their abuse machine, Egg became one of the worst cards.
Their systems seem to have so many problems that I've received letters threatening legal action because of missed payments which were not missed. They hike interest rates, con you into balance transfers and take away the deal (read the small print), their customer services is non existent as the people there act like drones who only know how to parrot the company line of "it was a business decision" for just about anything you complaint about.
I had the misfortune of not being able to pay a couple of years ago for 2 months while I tried to find work. This was the height of the economic downturn so you'd expect they would understand the problem. Nope, they threatened, stomped, and threatened again. I am now paying them off, but have nothing but trouble with them sending more threats, saying I have missed payments when I haven't and generally acting like little bullies in a school playground.
AVOID THESE COWBOYS AT ALL COSTS OR LIVE TO REGRET IT.

Appalling customer services, when I used my card for 1st time in ages on 28/12/10 it came back declined. I noticed a direct debit came out of my account so I called them and they said they had closed my card due to inactivity on 7th January 2011 but they put the declined transaction through on 28/12/10. Do they know this transaction is wrong then or else it would count as activity wouldn't it? As I cancelled my direct debit to stop them taking any more money from my bank account on this disputed item they have now locked me out of secure messaging so I cannot send mail to their disputes team!! Good job i kept all messages prior and sent my dispute special delivery. Hope you all know that you can always put a notice of correction on Experian etc if they attempt to bad score you. BAD BAD BAD

POTENTIAL NEW CUSTOMER - I heard one good comment about Egg in a newspaper and because we were told their reward scheme offered 1% we wanted to get the card, however, looking on this site we saw the bad comments and decided against joining Egg, perhaps Egg need to address these customer reviews/complaints, Customer services seem to be pivatol in Egg's downfall. Egg have just lost another potential customer and that needs looking at!

my Egg card is the worst card i've ever had, their service is rubbish. as soon as i sort out a current issue i will cut it up into tiny bits. they also give people 'bad' credit for no good reason and phone you up to tell you you can't withdraw £20 cash with your credit card when you're about 400 below your limit.

Have had an Egg card for many years, have used it regularly and always paid off the balance in full each month.
Recieved a letter telling me they were reducing my credit limit from £7,500 to £500 for no reason, and with absolutley no explaination. Customer services are absolutley terrible, and I mean terrible, they dont try to help, they send automated secure messages which bare no relationship to the problem, then when you raise a complaint, they send a letter saying they have investigated it and havent found a problem so are closing the complaint, just like that.
I really dont know the reasons why they have reduced my credit limit, I guess I never will, though I owe nothing to anybody and have been what the Govt' might call a model low risk customer.
Im closing my account with Egg. You shouldnt have to deal with companies like this.

Have had an egg card for over a year. Paid it off in full - balance zero & closed the account. Egg then added interest for the period up to the date I paid off in full. Handed my account over to COLLECTIONS because interest was not paid (IT WAS NOT OVERDUE - only due on 18/11/2010). Paid off this interest of £7.21 0n 5/11/2010. They now say I owe them one day interest (from 4/11 to 5/11) - minimum interest charge .50p. WHAT A RIPOFF COMPANY. Thank God I have closed this account & will NEVER deal with them again. My advice to prospective customers - GET A CARD SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Obnoxious customer services who can't communicate properly. Tried to close this card after using it for many years but then finally cracked and cancelled after the last in a long list of irritations. The last straw being they cancelled my card and sent me a new one just before I was due to go on holiday and they wouldn't tell me why other than to say it was a security issue. Pathetic. They regularly prevented online purchases in the name of security and yet are quite happy to accept payments on a cancelled account!

and some retailers cant seem to accept egg cards such as carphonewarehouse, what a red neck when they said your card does not seem to work, do you wish to try another.. egg say its carphonehouse systems but my bank of scotland credit card is also a visa so what the heck is the difference? and visa is a visa no?

Really poor credit card.
High interest, major pusher of useless PPI and not one decent balance transfer offer in 8 years with them.
Also almost impossible to close down. Egg issued repeated promises to close down my account over the last 2 months, I now have threatened them with FSA and they seem keen to close down next week. Funny that. Would never ever recommend to anyone under any circumstances. Compared to other credit cards, just rubbish.

I would have to disagree with most of the negative reviews for the Egg card.
I originally took out this card to take advantage of a long 0% balance transfer offer. (I did not use this card for spending.) They gave me a generous amount of credit and it was very easy to vary the direct debit amount to make sure this was paid off in time.
When the 0% ended a few months ago the interest rate for balance transfers went up to 16.9% (purchases also 16.9% - which is certainly not the worst I have seen). But I have recently noticed a reduced rate of 4.9% for balance transfers on my account.
Many card providers will up your interest rate if they are not making any money from you - this would not be unique to Egg. If the rate is not acceptable you can refuse this and ask them to close the card when the balance is paid.
I had to speak to customer services only once as I was having trouble registering the card on-line and they could not have been more helpful.

Had an Egg card, which I closed and paid in full in 2005. Took their Customer Services Department numerous times before they eventually sent me an email confirming the account was paid and closed.
Egg NEVER updated my credit file with Experian and so five years later when I apply for a mortgage it comes up that I owe then £2000! I have taken days off work, contacted a solicitor and Egg and their customer services was shambolic, their attiutude stunk and everybody gave me different answers as to what was going on.
Eventually a Team Leader did get Experian Updated with the fact my account was closed, but I am still awaiting an apology, written confirmation and now Im after them for the defaults which I didnt even know about!
I would advise anyone with a closed Egg card to get a copy of your Experian Report and start checking as I was advised by their customer services this "system failure" is a regular occurence!

Never get an Egg card; the rate they advertise is 17.9% but wait two years and you will be paying 29.9%.
If you pay your card in full every month they will cancel it; and if you build up a balance; they will build up your interest.
They like 'customers' that they can make money from; and they like to make a lot of money from each one.

Egg was good to start with, but as time went by the rate went up & up. My credit rating is top so they obviously don't like people paying off in time or even paying just the minimum. Rate was 16.9%, then 17.9, then 21.9, then 24.9, now 26.9%!!! Only good thing is this card allows balance transfers to your current account. Now they have refused payments from my business account so don't think you can use the card if you want to pay back from an account other than a personal one! I wonder if they are trying to get rid of all customers so they can shut down their card services! Shame on you Egg...

Had card for 5 years.. They gave me an ultimatum. Pay 29% interest charge or close account. Never had a problem or had any payment issues. Trust me this Company is run by loan sharks. Do not think that if you are a good customer that you will be unaffected. You will be a target - nothing less.
Did I like anything about the service?
Yes - I liked watching the card slowly go through the shredder and arranging for another card to pay off EGG with a rate of 7%.

Have been with egg for a number of years and until Feb would have said they where ok, but then I had an email putting rate up by 3%. Then all your reviewers coments came to be so real .Rude and so unprofesional.Con artist is so true. All sorts of problems in closing the account despite paying of balance. Avoid Avoid Avoid .If you have not had a problem yet beware you will.

Do no use, I cancelled my direct debit and they charged me 16.00 followed by another 16.00. I owed nothing on the account..
