“Ford Fiesta , 09, petrol, manual”

★★☆☆☆

written by Sadford on 29/07/2013

The wife purchased the lime 12.09 model in Jan 2010,This has been a lemon ,leaving a sour taste in our mouths, The car has done 22000Kms and the clutch slave cylinder has bitten it, constantly buying tail light bulbs and fuel economy was never anything fantastic. The cars ride and handling are very good as are other features. Just makes me so angry when something so simple a slave kit change for under $100 turns into a $1200 job just so Euro Ford can save a couple of bucks in manufacture ,and they have the nerve to charge $600 for a clutch kit, it stinks and we will never buy a ford again...We should have them up for recall for defective engineering...you know what Iam going to look into it.

I have an 09 fiesta 1.4TDCI zetec with 68,000 miles on the clock. Ihave yo say that it is a very reliable car that constantly returns 62MPG according to the computer. Not the fastest off the blocks but you cant have it both ways. The key is to service in accordance with Ford service manual.

“Why dont Ford tell the truth about fuel consumption?”

★★★☆☆

written by Richarpsmith on 04/05/2012

I recently purchased a one year old Fiesta with just 2500 miles on the clock. Having had a Vauxhall Vectra Diesel which with my style of driving and doing 70 miles each day on the motorway I could get approx 55 mpg. I was expecting to get the claimed 67 mpg that Ford say is possible. The best I can attain is 1 mpg less than the Vectra 54 mpg and that is not going over 65 mph and carefull acceleration etc in town. Big dissapointment.

★★☆☆☆

written by on 30/04/2011

I bought this £6500 5 door 1.4TDCI Fiesta Zetec from a main Ford dealership in York with only 24k on the clock. Just after six months(now out of warranty)it developed a water leak which after investigation from my own garage, turned out to be an "octopus" shaped hose made of plastic, deep inside the engine bay which had been rubbing on an adjacent component. There was that much stripping down that I ended up with a bill for £178. More recently at only 40k miles, the turbo failed, landing me with a bill for just under £1000. Needless to say, Ford didn't want to know.I had to get rid and have just part exchanged for something very Japanese. The Fiesta looks good, handles great and is terrifically economicaly, but it's crammed engine bay makes repairs difficult and time consuming, resulting in high labour costs, even for the simplest of repairs. For me, the reliability just isn't there. I should have understood what my mechanic said when I first presented him with this Fiesta when he responded, "what on earth have you bought that for ?"

“I have a ford fiesta diesel, model 2005. ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/03/2011

I have a ford fiesta diesel, model 2005.
A wonderful car on its own. Only problem is that once the faults pop up, they never stop.
I got some work from a local garage on my power steering pipe. During this work, mechanic had to get the engine partly down. After he finished the work and i took the car back home, I started guessing that there seems some funny noise as if there is a leak in some gasket kind.

Now, the noise like," tcheek tcheek tcheek" keeps coming from the engine side and a bit smell of the exhaust fumes too inside my car.
Today finally, my car stops when driving and I stop accelerating. It stays ON when revving the engine and stops after stopping the revving.

Can anyone tell me what is to be done and wat seems to be the fault???
Has it anything got to do with my coolant also getting drained everyday, as that is one more big problem I faced for a year up....

Awaiting some genuine and clever updates

if the tappety sound is coming from the lefthand side of the engine as you look from the front it maybe the crankshaft end pully if your in luck to confirm jack the car up take off the inspection cover and with engine running get big screwdriver and place presure on securing nut if sound dulls or goes your in luck about 80 to 100quid should sort it good luck

This is your copper gasket which is at the top of your injection chamber. It seems this is a common fault, I have it. The parts to resolve cost under £5 I would guess but the garage have explained getting at it and taking to bits and putting back can take 3-4 hours. So labour intesive. I trust my garage and its booked in.

“We bought our Fiesta 1.4 TDCI Zetec Climate in January...”

★★★☆☆

written by mark owen on 06/03/2011

We bought our Fiesta 1.4 TDCI Zetec Climate in January 2009 for my wife to use as a second car, in the last 2 years its covered 17,000 miles and had no mechanical problems so far!

We paid £8000 from a main dealer with 12,500 miles on the clock for a 9 month old car which looking back was a good deal.

In the 2 years of ownership the only costs have been servicing and tyres.

Like other owners we only get a weekly average 42-45 mpg but this is still good compared to other cars we have or do own, the occasional motorway run will return a better 48-52mpg.

The one fault I have found which we also experienced with a 55 plate Fiesta Zetec S is the doors filling with water due to the drainage holes regularly blocking, this is easy enough to deal with though.

I bought my Fiesta from the local main dealer as a nearly new car.on delivery I found numerous dinks in the paintwork and the interior was quite dirty. Also the car mats promised by the salesman were missing. The dealership took some convincing that I would not accept the car unless these faults were rectified. Since that time the car has been a pleasure to own and drive.
The car has good performance end economy and is very well behaved in all road conditions. Al in all a very well delivered small car.Overall, car good dealership less so had I been aware I may have tried another main Dealer.

Have had my 58 Tdci for nearly two years.Covered 23k.In that time it has never dropped below 60 mpg, with a mix of town and motorway driving.only trouble have had in that time is a faulty rear screen and the aircon recharged.Ford dealer charged £140 for both the yearly services.Might be a bit expensive for what they do.But i have had excellent service from them when i had warranty issues.
Only thing annoying about the diesel is the noise when the engine is cold, and the road noise on motorways can be a bit tiresome.
As with any mass produced car some will have problems. And experience has shown me all models are prone to one thing thing or another. If you think leaking injector seals are a huge cost.Try having a focus diesel with a dmf fault at £1200, or a Vaux Meriva steering failure at £750.On the whole this model has been a good buy.

“Well I've had this car a few months now, it's a Ford...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 17/09/2010

Well I've had this car a few months now, it's a Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 TDCI on a 54 plate. I've owned a diesel Fiesta before (a 1.6 Zetec S TDCI) and I was very very happy with it, commuting 150 miles a day in it. I suppose I'm relatively happy with this, but my major gripe is the MPG. I bought this on starting a new job as I now have to drive 40 miles each way. All the literature points to 54mpg as the minimum, which sounded great to me and the overriding afctor in deciding to buy it. I'd previously been driving my Honda S2000 or MG ZS+ 180 to work - both very juicy! However, as a few other people have commented, I'm not getting near this figure! My journey goes like this - about 5 miles on B roads at about 40mph, then 10 miles on A roads at around 70mph, with a roundabout and a few speed cameras, then I hit traffic for about 3 miles which takes about 15 minutes to move through. Then it's on to the M25 and about 16 miles between 50 and 70mph (on a good day). 5 miles with traffic, traffic lights and a roundabout travelling between 5 and 50 mph. Then into Watford and the final leg of about 2 miles at 10 mph round the one way system. In my mind, that's combined mileage which I should apparently be getting about 64mpg. The reality is I'm getting about 45mpg for that. I'm very conscious of reving and my driving style too, so I don't think it's becuase I'm used to driving an S2000! Very VERY dissapinted with the fuel economy, but overall, a solid, good looking little work horse.

I think your MPG sounds good for the type of journey you do. I have same engine Fiesta. Only on steady runs do I get the 60+ MPG figures.

written by on 13/09/2010

I have a 57 plate Ford Fiesta 1.4 Diesel. The engine fitted is a Peugeot unit and (based on blogs on the internet), there is a known problem with the injector seals as mine have just blown after 45K miles.
Is the Ford warranty worth the paper it is written on? My service history is up to date, but I have always used an independent garage for my servicing as it is cheaper and I have found they are more flexible in terms of when they can schedule you in if a fault occurs between services.
I tried to claim against the warranty, but there was a problem with one of my service bills (oil filter cheaper on my last service cheaper than my other services) even though it did not relate to my fuel problem. My independent garage insists that they have used genuine Ford parts. Very disappointed I will not be replacing this car with another Ford

“Bought this Fiesta 1.4TDCI to replace my wife's...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 26/08/2010

Bought this Fiesta 1.4TDCI to replace my wife's previous 1.8 non-turbo Fiesta (174,000 trouble-free 52mpg miles).
Mileage was 27,000 and 8 months later at 32,000 miles the power steering rack had to be replaced (£900 inc. a service). At 36,000 miles poor starting and fumes caused by leaking injector seals and a cracked exhaust gas recirculation pipe had to be replaced (£925 inc a service) with a warning that the front discs were worn and with pads would be £225 approx!
Wear on the discs was in fact barely 0.5mm and when I changed the discs and pads courtesy of a Mintex kit at 58,000miles, it cost £38 delivered.
Over the last year we have seen the dreaded "EAC FAIL" warning several times, always after rain or big puddles and limp home mode is not amusing although the car has recovered after a short while after each occurrence.
Fuel consumption is exactly the same as the older 1.8L car was at 52mpg and it is a better driving experience but the maintenance costs and current concerns over reliability of the Electronic Accelerator Control mean that we won't be buying another Fiesta.
Indeed, the unpleasant reception we have received from our local Ford dealer means we shan't be buying another Ford of any sort.

This is the best small car i have ever owned, Best handling in its class, great value

Pros:
never less than 50mpg
Its cheap to run,
Its got plenty of space,
Accelleration is ok on the turbo
£35 per year road tax
After 90k hard miles it still drives well and not cost me much to maintain.

cons,
Poor top speed - similar to a 1.6 Petrol
not that attractive to look at
To get 65mpg+ you need to drive under 55mph

All in all, the car does what it meant to do perfectly

can anyone tell me at best case and worst case how many miles I should get on a full tank of diesel, just bought a 1.4 tdci and i'm getting approx 450-480 miles on a full tank, mainly motorway driving at 60mph. The handbook says combined fuel economy is 62mpg, so i'm not getting anywhere near that am I? Or am I calculating it totally wrong? Help please!! :-)
