Do not buy these cars second hand they are death traps.I am experienced driver with 35years driving experience owned and driven every conceivable type of Car, Van, with all engine confiurations and diferrent fuel types. My Ford Mondeo is a 2003 TDI 130 regularly serviced that I have owned for 18 months. I commute 750 to 800 miles a week from Portsmoth to Brentford using A3M - M25 - M4. I have had the Turbo, and injection sytem deep cleaned which made the problem go away 80 % of the time. But now the problem is back again the Car will cut out and lose 90 % of its engine power at a critical time when you are in an overtaking situation. The only way to temporarily gain a slight increae in Limp Mode is to switch the igniton key off anf on very quickly whilst still travelling on. I have been told that a sporting drive (ie high revs now and then through the gears) clears the soot build up in the Turbo. The problem apparently is caused over a period of time when you do long staedy Motorway miles. Otherwise the handling and fuel economy is superb.

I have owned my mondeo tdci 2litre diesel for 4 years.First problem that is common with these is duel mass flywheel,i had to replace 2 starter motors before i realised, no problem since at a cost though of 500 for new clutch and DMF.I commute daily and had the shock of my life when in the outside lane M27 the car just died! i lost all power and had to cruise to the hard shoulder extremely scary.Diagnosis was master engine relay fuse,cheap to repair but a very dangerous fault.Good points this car sticks to the road,fuel economy 59.5 extra urban,hugged the road in the snow,great heated screens, i would purchase another very strong work horse ,no black smoke,runs very smoothly,safety aspects good,held the road when idiots are driving .passed all mot's flying colours ,now on 160000 still great.

I bought my 18month old Mondeo TDCI Ghia X in 2006 with 12k on the clock, to replace my 10 year old Mondeo Mk1. I too had the engine cut out once within the first month of driving it, but it never returned; on the whole the car was ok with plenty of power and would average 450miles on a full tank of Diesel . It now has 75k miles on the clock, I will be trading it in for a newer car this month.
I had the following faults with the car, over the 5 years I have owned it.
Dual mass flywheel broke up - replaced with starter motor, clutch and clutch slave cylinder. £1100
Turbo hose split - Replaced £170 fitted by Ford.
Windscreen washer pump replaced £11 from Ebay - Fitted myself
Both front coil springs broken at different times - £126 each fitted
Gearbox making clunking noise in 3rd and 4th gear when accelerating / decelerating - £130 new gearbox mount fitted - did not fix the issue.
Camshaft sensor faulty causing glow plug light to come on, and engine to enter limp home mode - £25 fitted by myself.
Leaking injector pipe causing diesel to spray onto the engine - £155 fitted
Boot release switch stopped working - Removed and cleaned with switch cleaner.
In the end I lost faith in the cars reliability, although it's a great looking car with good performance I would not buy another one.

23000 miles when i got it , just turned 80000 miles , First problem to go wrong was at 60000 miles. rear brake caliper needed . Fixed with good friend for around £100 . Second problem 80000 miles was a faulty injector .£30 for every injector to be tested £100 for the new injector . total price for fix about £420 used mobile diesel mechanic. third prob same week 80000 miles power steering failure . New rack £77 installed with good friend . fourth prob same week air bag light fault , £200 Fraud `steering wheel angle sensor and clock spring .
Problems are a pain when you need a car but for the four years and miles I have done I think the car hasnt been too bad over all .Very good on the motorway and good mpg for your money . plenty of power when you need it. 6 speed box is great

I purchased a Mondeo TDCI (Ghia - 2005 - 130 PS - 6 Speed) around 12 months ago. Currently 135k miles, and had to change all 4 Injectors. But recently, leaving work...Started the car, pulled out of the car park, and started driving down hill (not very cold weather), all of a sudden, car loses all power, no steering !!!, looked down at the dashboard, battery light, oil light, and started motor light (far right) all lit up ???. Managed to pull over with very very heavy steering. As soon as i pulled up, started car, ran fan. Now drove for 2 days without this problem (touch wood). Many things ran through my head, had i caught the key with my knee whilst driving and cut the engine off ???. One note, all 4 injectors replaced 5 weeks ago, the first injector (left to right) is sitting in what appears to be a "puddle" of fluid, Diesel ???, Oil ?? Water ???, all other three fine. Apart from the puzzling so far one off problem, cracking car!!!!!.

These cars are a death trap, they cut out without warning with loss of brakes and power steering, engine won't re-start and flashing glow plug light.
Eventually the car will restart only to repeate the problem a few days later.
Ford garages shrug their shoulders and ask you to park them up next to all the rest, say they found nothing, charge you £350 and let you drive away .
Spent £2350 on new flywheels and sensors to fix the problem , guess what. 100 miles later, cut out on motorway at 70 mph.
I wish I had never seen this car.
£8000 of scrap metal in my drive, Ford can not fix it
Whatever you do do not buy a ford TDCI YOU WILL REGRET IT

Bougth my 130 TDCi Ghia from a dealer. It had about 60000 miles on the clock. Now has 229000 mostly motorway miles. Have had new injectors and a new clutch which I don't consider a problem bearing in mind miles covered. Presently in workshop for investigation of intermittent cold starting problem - fires up, but won't rev!!!
Overall I'm quite satisfied with the car - its my 2nd Mondeo TDCi.
Reading other reviews, my only comment would be - under no circumstances would I use a Ford main dealer for work on the car. They are next to useless and charge astronomical labour rates.

My 2004 Ghia X estate has 170,000 miles on the clock. It is an ex lease car and has been serviced regularly. It is still on the original clutch and manages around 50mpg on a run, with around 42 in town.
I have recently had to replace the rear wheel bearings, discs, and exhaust.
The only problem that has arisen is that the car occasionally pops out of third gear when coming off the accelerator. Other than these age related problems, I would have no hesitation in recommending one of these cars. I have had four Mondeos over the past 12 years, and have had very few issues with any of them.
As for the cutting out issue, my former employer had a number of Vauxhall Vectras, and they frequently cut out at around 60mph. This problem was finally cured by taking to the main dealer and having the engine management re-mapped.

Bought a 2002 TDCi Mondeo with 100k on the clock and have had nothing but problems with it. First noticed lack of power, an odd whooshing noise when upping the revs and some stumbling over the autobox selecting third gear - tracked that down to a split Turbo intercooler hose which is a very common problem.
Fixed that problem and now the engine is cutting out sporadically - under high and low revs - which is a safety concern as well as really annoying. Ran numerous diagnostics and got a range of error codes which indicate anything from dodgy crank/cam sensor to failing fuel pump!
Wouldn't touch one again with a barge pole.

Ive had my mondeo 130 tdci estate now for 3 weeks , bought from a dealer, I was happy when i tried the car, but after two days driving it has cut out on several occasions with the orange light coming on first, then cutting out completley, going at any speed, fast or slow.Then I have to quickly restart it... Dealer dienies all knowledge, and garage says from diagnostics, its either fuel pump or injectors either one will cost about £1000 with labour...After reading all these reviews, think ill cut my losses and p/x with another dealer and hopefully put it down to bad luck and warn anybody not to touch this model.
