“Disappointing quality and appaulling customer services”

I ordered hunter huntress navy boots for dog walking from Uttings, like most I got drawn in by the prices. The delivery was prompt and I was very excited to recieve them. However on removing the blue plastic packaging I was disappointed firstly by the damaged box. On opening the box I also realised that a pattern was emerging because the boots were badly scuffed. Thank you for your comments and further to our recent Twitter conversation, as mentioned, due to the volume of orders we despatch, it is simply not practical for us to check every single item that we send out.

As we have said that we will refund your return postage costs if they are faulty, then I am a little unsure what issue there is actually left to resolve to your satisfaction.

This will be an ongoing issue until and full refund has been recieved. I think the way I have been treated is just a disgrace to your company. Have you heard of treat customers fairly?
I just wish to have my money back now and I am entitled to that as a consumer for goods that are faulty.
I wish to God now that I never ordered from Uttings. Such a bad experience.

The boots have been returned to you via Collect plus, I am tracking the delivery of the boots and will be contacting you when you have reciept of them. The boots are faulty, numerous pictures have been taken by myself and I have also showed them to my partner who also decscribed them as very badly scuffed... No if but's or maybe's about it!!

I don't know how your conversation went, but if your attitude on here is anything to go by, I think I can see why the person you spoke to did not perhaps go out of their way to help you.

I've dealt with Uttings before with a problem and the person I spoke to was very helpful and polite and couldn't do more to help me.

I learned the hard way that being unreasonable and coming out with things like "I work for solicitors" (your point?) doesn't make people want to help you. Treating customers fairly in my experience is largely governed by the the attitude of the customer and I expect Uttings probably treated you as fairly as you treated them.

However before I close, I wish to mention that I have just spoke to the most charming gentleman with Uttings customer services who dealt with my return enquiry prompt. Thank you M. Its ashame that the 1st lady that dealt with me didnt have your approach to customers. Thank you for confirming that the boots are damaged and for confirming that a refund will be issued. I have had Muckboots wellies before and was happy with them, hence the reorder. I have had a pair of Hunters Balmoral before and whilst they were warm and comfortable, the lining fell apart after about a year and the outs began to split and the boots were no longer waterproof. Further to our recent email correspondence, as discussed, the boots you were sent are actually the latest model Zamberlan boots, not the older model as you initially suggested they were.

As explained (and as per our Terms and Conditions), images on our website are to be used as a guideline only, as manufacturers vary designs from time to time and the actual item received may be different.

As we do not physically have any of the old stock boots left, we really had very little option left other than to offer to refund you if you did not want the boots you were sent.

You were sent the correct boots, by next day delivery (which arrived on time), so there was no reason for us to refund your delivery charge separately.

I am sorry that you feel our customer service is woeful, but fully respect your decision to take your custom elsewhere in future.

“Buying Binoculars on line”

I've been looking for a decent pair of binoculars for shooting and bird watching. I took advice from BASC, decided on Swarovski after trying them out at a major London store. Went on line and saw Uttings were a lot cheaper. I ordered the binoculars and was impressed when Uttings gave me a one hour delivery slot the next day. Should have known better. Thank you for your comments and I am sorry that you feel our customer service is lacking in quality.

When you first contacted us at approximately 4.55pm that day (following non-delivery between 10.30-11.30am), a member of our team spent time speaking with DPD and did call you back to advise that the driver's hand-held device had failed earlier in the day and he was working his round manually, but estimated that the parcel should be with you by 6pm. As our office closes at 5pm, it was not really practical for someone to wait around until 6pm to see if your parcel was actually delivered.

The driver, rather than deciding it was long past the end of his shift and the parcels could wait until the following day, persevered and ensured that all his parcels were delivered (albeit very late) which is why your parcel did not arrive until 9pm.

You sent your first email at around 8.30pm that evening (after the office had closed) advising that you had not received delivery. You then emailed later again that evening to say that you had received delivery from an apologetic delivery man. There did not seem to be much need for us to respond to either email as you had actually received the binoculars. I apologise if you were expecting a response. We did also, as a gesture of goodwill refund your P&P charge.

With regards to lack of communication, unfortunately, as the hand-held unit had failed, the system did not automatically update and of course, no-one was aware that there were problems until you contacted us to advise that the parcel had not been delivered as it should have been several hours previously. You could argue that we should perhaps not be so reliant on technology as, when it fails, it does clearly create issues.

DPD do achieve delivery on time, 95% of the time for us and, while we appreciate it is frustrating for the 5% of people who are affected, it is, currently, an acceptable level of service for us and we do monitor this closely.

I am sorry that DPD did not deliver the parcel to you at their stated time but hope that you can appreciate that behind the scenes, people were working hard to ensure your parcel was delivered to you.
