Avoid Opus energy! They are aggressive on the phone and send out threatening letters from Abbott and Co constantly! Their bills are the most confusing of any utility company I have ever used! Meter readings are scarce and made up instead!

You have been warned!

“BEWARE STAY AWAY!!”

Written on: 04/09/2012 by gurnamdigwa (1 review written)

My advice to anyone is stay well clear of Opus Energy, they're a rip off company that intice & encourage people to join up & sign a 2 year contract witha competitive rate & then put the rates up straight away. when I first bought my business they rfang me & quoted me a competitive rate then after I told them I would think about it I received a letter that they were transfering me from my current supplier to Opus & when I told then that I hadn't agreed to join but had told then I would consider… Read Full Review

That's what Opus should do; shed her from their payroll. Threatening, unhelpful and has no grasp of customer care. The operations Director spends alot of time apologising for the same poor practices. I did get help from the energy ombusman for an erroneous transfer. Keep a diary of all correspondance and you will get there. I actually had a big burly guy turn up on my premises to disconnect me. He left with burger and chips and tail between his legs as Opus were in the wrong. Good luck

They seriously need to be investigated they are a rubbish company.
I started a restaurant business and they called everyday claiming to be government agency and they want to help me get the cheapest supplier.
I found out they were themselves from opus and they lied in order for me to get into a contract for 3 YEARS!!
I contacted energy ombudsman and all the regulators to no avail, telling me it takes a long time, i have to do this and that.I had no choice and couldnt get help even my solicitor told me in order to sue them I would pay lots of money to the lawyers so couldnt get out of the contract.
I'm still suffering from them, high tariffs and phone calls everyday threatening to cut off supply.
No help from anyone.

How a company can get away with the way they treat THIER CUSTOMERS just baffles me.
They did about the same with my company, supposedly sent me a renewal reminder, (that I did not received). So they then rolled over my contract for another year and upped my tarriff from 9.520kwh per day, 5.070kwh per night,& 32.000 per day standing charge to 18.990kwh per day, 12.290 per night, when complained they reduced my tarriff to 15.990kwh per day,8.290kwh per night,& 20.000 per day standing charge . I had a smart meter fitted in june 2010 but my bills were coming in as estimates, the monthly payments at first started, at about £360, but then one came at just over £400. when i called to ask why i got an excuse that the estimate was only about 3 days of useage from them getting my reading, to sending my bill to me and me receiving it, i accepted this explanation. My next bill came in at over £800, I again phoned them to be told that my smart meter had not worked sinse it was fitted so i could owe them more, or they could owe me. (I had a feeling what the outcome would be). They then gave me a verbal date for an engineer to call & examine my smart meter, I then received a letter of comfirmation. I then received a letter to inform me that they were about to take over £3,900 by direct debit from my bank account the day after the meter was to be examined, (BEFORE THE ENGINEER HAD EVEN INSPECTED IT). I was absolutely furious & phoned my bank manager to stop this payment going through. I then called these robbing bullying thugs to explain. Each time I made a call to these people I asked that any calls from them would be made to my mobile. This has never happenned. Then somebody from opus called my business phone line and spoke to a staff member to inform me i had been stopped from making payments by direct debit because of this missed payment. The bill i got after the smart meter was examined was over £1,900 which I was told I must pay emmediatly on a visa or debit card or further action would be taken, Which I did though a little different to the original £3,900 they had orininally tried to get. I've had an absolute nightmare with this company & would advise everyone to steer clear. I have terminated my contract but can't get out untill November 2012. my
bills started at around £360 per month then £550-£650. I have just received my August to September bill which is £784.61 (ONE MONTH).

“stay away from these dodgy lying thiefs!”

i got a phone call from an opus worker ( calling from India) telling me he could reduce my bill. he promised me i would pay £125 per month for a 1year contract. I was really happy with this but was still very wary that this sounded to good to be true. realising i was going to deny his offer he then started to tell me not to worry as everything was being recorded, and this was a verbal contract so without the recording would be void. i then told him i was in a contract with scottish power he… Read Full Review

“Do not use Opus”

Written on: 16/07/2012

This company are terrible and never to be used by anyone. After a year our contract expired and trying to get rid of them is a nightmare. They claim they have sent you a new contract giving you the time to terminate your existing agreement but this never happens. You then if not extremely careful fail to give them the desired notice and they then rip you off with much higher charges for the next year. Do not bother appealing to the electricity ombudsman because they are useless and no help at… Read Full Review

“Appalling Behaviour”

Written on: 20/06/2012

One of the worst energy companies have ever dealt with. Pricing seems initially OK but soon escalates, and estimated meter readings are way out. The customer service person I spoke to claimed that it was a legal requirement to have the meter in full and open view (in a shop!) and that health & safety rules prevented the meter reader from opening a cupboard door to take a reading. If you have a dispute, expect a call from a mobile number from someone pretending to be a 'warrant officer' who… Read Full Review

“A Truly Awful Experience from Start to End”

Written on: 05/06/2012 by Small_Business_User (1 review written)

I own a small family business where every minute of every day counts. You have to rely on your suppliers to provide there commitments. I honestly spent more time managing this 'tin pot' outfit than actually getting service from them. Like most companies they are fine whilst they are taking the money, but wow are they incompetent when it comes to resolving issues. If you ask to speak to someone senior - forget it, they read from a script and state that someone will call back - which of course… Read Full Review

Like so many others writing reviews of Opus energy I am appalled at the massive rate hike from the end of my first 12 month contarct , an increase from 10p to 16p. They say they have written to me 3 times, I have received nothing, and now even though I have still got 5 weeks remaining I have been told that I am tied in to another 12 months at a 60% increase.
