“Terrible inconsideration to honest customers”

Written on: 09/11/2011 by MarkLock (1 review written)

Hi - I am sharing a terrible experience my partner has had with OPUS since she took ownership of the supply at a convenience store back in December 2010. Apparently and unkown to us the previous owner was disconnected by OPUS in Novemeber 2010 and subsequently reconnected himself some days later. OPUS discovered this quickly and escalated the matter (quite within their rights). As I said, in December my partner took ownership of the property, notified OPUS and supplied them with meter… Read Full Review

So rather than deal with this matter in a reasonable way they did what I expected and started legal proceedings.

How an empty corner shop can consume £1700 worth of electricity in a few months is still un-answered but we simply do not the funds or resources to fight this.

1-0 to the big bullies at OPUS - i hope you sleep well at night with the knowledge you are simply destroying peoples lives with your scant disregard for decent fair play!

Oh - and we are still being expected to pay a monthly charge but are without a meter and hence have no electricity. Simply do not have the £5000 deposit they are demanding for a meter.

Cannot use the shop - Cant sell the shop!

Well done OPUS

FAO - Andy Nash,

We have tried many times to speak to your team - they are not interested in resolving this matter in a fair way and only seem to be interested in trying to get money from the only person available to them with no regard as to fact that we have done anything wrong!!!

Please provide your direct contact details as I am exhausted by the continual disregard from your company and would like this matter resolved.

“Erroneous transfers”

Written on: 01/11/2011

I am currently in dispute with Opus as my power supplier has switched to Opus, when speaking to the broker, he had stated that he had spoken to my landlord, and that I will not be changing supplier just updating details on records, and that I need to understand all terms and conditions. They call you on your first day of trading at your busiest time, which to me owning a cafe was at lunch. In hindsight i should have said call back, but I was trying to get everything together as soon as… Read Full Review

The energy Ombudsman has intervened and for once honesty wins out and the little person is successful over the corporations. I was honest and was able to provide evidence to back me up. Please take this as a warning if contacted by any broker on first day of business tell them to call back at a time that is more convinient to yourself, or ideally tell them to 'jog on' we are not stupid people and will source our own services to be provided to our businesses.

Good luck to all that are continuing to have dealings with this company.

Aagin I can only agree wuth everything that has been said. We too took over a business and on the first day of trading Opus made contact with us and pushed my wife into taking out a 24 month contract with them. When questioned at the time they assured us that their rates were very competitive which is clearly not true. These people are unscrupulous and I would avoid them at all costs.

I can only agree with all of the comments that have been made. We too were contact bu Opus on the day that we took over a cafe business that we purchased. My wife was pressurised into taking out a 24 month contract with them at what was a very busy time, on the promise that their rates were very competitive. This is clearly not that case. We were given a KWh rate of 4.54p but are now being charged 11.58p kWh. This is a very unscrupulous organisation and I would keep well clear of them.

FAO Andy Nash.
I have spoken to many customer service people at Opus, and they are not interested in rectifying the issue, they are only interested in charging a ridiculous amount for power that I have not used. As the operations director I think that you should look at the deceitful and underhanded tactics used by some of the brokers that you associate with. Also companies that do not have a cooling off period or use verbal terms and conditions that people barely understand usually are not the best to do business with. I am now awaiting the out come of the energy ombudsman and the previous power supplier as they have said they had not agreed a release and it was just taken, and they had just agreed a 5 year contract with the registered person 3 weeks before Opus took the power.

Regards
Worried and closer to being bankrupt thanks to Opus.

“nightmare company to deal with”

Written on: 14/10/2011 by jackiefwebb (1 review written)

We have had nothing but trouble with this company. They took advantage of my father who is deaf and in his eighties, ended up paying for years for nothing, we had an empty shop that was never going to be used again. You can never get them to understand an issue. Sent a final meter reading 5 months ago. Still getting monthly bills inspite of trying to explain my father no longer lives at the property and that it is being sold for residential use only. It seems unless the person on the phone… Read Full Review

“Opus Energy are Cowboys”

Written on: 15/09/2011 by Belinda11 (1 review written)

I have been with OPUS ENERGY a year and am unfortunately tied into a 2 year contract. They underestimated my small business electricity bill by £2000 despite taking regular meter readings. They then tried to take the full amount by Direct Debit and sent bailiffs to my shop demanding payment in full. The eventually set up a payment plan which they later cancelled and demanded the amount in full again. I had to pay them £1400 in full! I strongly discourage anyone to use them as a supplier… Read Full Review

“My Opus Experience”

Written on: 08/09/2011 by TeresaLandlady (1 review written)

I've been a customer of Opus for almost 5 years and I have to say that any time I have had an issue, I've only had to make a call to them and everything has been sorted. My monthly bills reflect what I use and being on fixed rates only benefits me and my business. I always get calls from other competitors trying to sign me up but I have no desire to move away. I'd really encourage customers to make contact if you have a problem - I'd be really suprised if they didn't want to help you… Read Full Review

please please please DO NOT SIGN UP WITH OPUS ENERGY. This company needs to be reigned in by a protective body, my son has just opened a pet shop, and after telling our broker to find us a new supplier, we settled on scottish power as their rates were the cheapest there was. Scottish power dragged their heels a bit and the sharks that Opus are phoned my son and pestered him all morning to sign up with them. “Avoid at all costs they except resposibility for nothing.”

Written on: 08/07/2011

My wife was misled into a contract with these cowboys last August. The figures speak for themselves. 12 months electricity with EDF was £2251.62 So far for Opus since last November over £4300 thats for just 7 months. They will treat you like a mug and will explain nothing in plain English. I find them evil and inhumane in there approach to customer service. You will only ever get to speak to a junior member of staff on the phone who sit there calmly as you heart races and blood boils as… Read Full Review

I've started a new business and I was rang by these people telling me I was on an off contract charge system and it was costing me a fortune (turned out to be a lie) that they were the cheapest supplier (another lie) and that I was responsible for the electricity ( I wasn't) They started a recording taking details and I asked if there was a cooling down period, they told me there was. “I wish I had read these reviews before I got tied into...”

Written on: 17/06/2011

I run a small hotel and like one of the previous reviews I had enough on my plate starting up and signed a 4 year contract with Opus, unwittingly. Their prices are horrendous and my electricity bills are between £500 - £700 per month. We only have a bar and three letting rooms. They put a smart meter in my premises which I can't read, so therefore have no idea if I am being charged correctly or not. Like other customers I phoned them about the rates I am being charged, and was told there… Read Full Review

“hello, ”

Written on: 29/10/2010

hello,

I recently started a new business venture 2 months ago and took over an existing premises. With enough to be getting on with I left my gas and electric as the current suppliers with a view to shopping around for the best quote in a month's time - I knew both suppliers but was busy setting up a small business so I put it off on day 1 - in hindsight this was a mistake.

I found this review extremely helpful, I've been in exactly the same situation. I was contacted by someone called central Meter department who work as brokers for opus. They said they were a government department, which was a complete lie as I later discovered once i was dragged into the 2 year contract. My existing electricity rates are double of what i was paying to my old supplier. And i am a small business, and completely new. This is extremely unfair, something has to be done. I filed a complaint with opus but....... I don't need to say anymore.

I took out a contract with OPUS ENERGY(business) I had a computer shop. When the recession hit I had to downsize and work from home. I informed OPUS of this and tried to get out of the contract after all I would be paying 17.5% VAT instead of the lower domestic rate. They told me they needed at least three months notice on cancellation and the contract was for 18 months and I was only into about 1 month of it.My partner who owns the house and pays the bills was in dispute with them about the… Read Full Review

I'm in the same position, I was conned by a firm called Dsm media in poulton le fyldes, they called me after I'd agreed a switch to Eon, Dsm pretended to be an official meter registration company and switched me to Opus who now insist they have a legally binding contract although I've asked them three times for a copy of said contract nothing has as yet arrived. I've made it perfectly clear to opus that I do not want their services and that I was conned by their brokers. I have put a stop on all new direct debits from my bank, (Opus have already tried to set up a debit before I'd even heard from them!) The brokers tried to switch me to four diffenrt compnaies at the same time. The others have dropped any attempt to switch me but opus are being petty minded.

The exact same thing has happened with our business this week; we moved into new premises and were misrepresented by a broker who gave false rates for other providers - obviously they're receiving a higher commission from Opus Energy - without even realising it, we'd entered into a verbal contract. We were not informed that Opus do not offer a 'cooling-off' period, unlike other providers. When I complained to Opus Energy, before the verbal contract had even arrived with them, they were sympathetic yet said they were not responsible for the broker's tactics. And yet three days later, National Grid's database shows that they have already taken our supply away from nPower. I am still waiting for their Complaints department to get back to me. I am amazed that a company can so maliciously pursue new accounts - surely not a good way to go forward. I have reported them to Consumer Direct and have also written to BBC Watchdog explaining how we've been conned - I do hope that Opus Energy learn that such strong-armed tactics will catch up with them. Please do note that if your business has less than 10 employees or consumes less than 55,000kWh of electricity per year you are considered a micro business and are protected by the Energy Ombudsman. Do not sign up with Opus Energy.
