“The Worst EVER!”

Written on: 07/12/2012 by theclockmaker (1 review written)

I have run a successful business for the last 12 years; recently a company adjacent to me opened and were convinced by Opus to supply their electricity. The company now say it’s the worst decision they’ve ever made. To compound things Opus got it all wrong, they took my account with their meter number and stole my existing contract away from Scottish Power. Opus informed SP that the business had closed down and it was therefore a new contract and to release the contract to Opus, which SP… Read Full Review

“Opus Energy - steer well clear!!”

Written on: 27/11/2012

I am still trying to get rid of them after several years. Beware dodgy telesales tactics. They scrupulously recorded the "verbal contract" but didnt record the detailed discussion where they went over my old bills told me they would save me money. When the paperwork arrived it was a lot more than I understood it would be. They then set my monthly direct debit at 3 times what I had been paying. And then, despite my best efforts to make sure I did NOT renew the contract, sure enough a contract… Read Full Review

“Rip you off after initial offer”

Written on: 09/11/2012

Had two sites supplied both on one year contracts. All was fine untill after a year they bumped my elec unit price to over 17p per KW. On cantacting them they said the contract had rolled over. I asked why I had not been informed and they said they had written to both sires 3 months prior to the renewal quoting the renewal prices. THEY DID NOT. I am the sole person at these sites and keep all my paper work and no renewal notice was sent to either site. I questioned it with them and they said it… Read Full Review

“DUPED, TRIED REVERSING BUT GOT ABUSE”

This company use a broker called The Business Energy Company - salesman (Kevin Mason). I got a message from my shop that Iqram from Eon (our current supplier) had called and needed to active our account and left a number for me to call. We had just moved into a new property, didn't give it too much though - I was about to call Eon anyway to give a meter reading and had their paperwork in my hand ready to call. Dear readers I am one of those unlucky one's having to deal with opus energy. I am a new owner of a small takeaway and as you would first thing I did as soon as I took over the business checked the current suppliers of gas and electricity, and to my horror I find OPus energy is supplying the electricity. I have had to close my business due to the problems with this opus energy and there was nobody who would help me. I totally agree with all the things that has been raised by the reviewer about this company. How they are able to use such practices in a country such as this I do not understand. I am going to write my own review shortly about the problems and how this company made my life in to a living hell. And finally why I had to close my business, I will also put down the names of the people I spoke to with dates.

The operations Director spends alot of time apologising for the same poor practices. I did get help from the energy ombusman for an erroneous transfer. Keep a diary of all correspondance and you will get there. I actually had a big burly guy turn up on my premises to disconnect me. He left with burger and chips and tail between his legs as Opus were in the wrong. Good luck

They seriously need to be investigated they are a rubbish company.
I started a restaurant business and they called everyday claiming to be government agency and they want to help me get the cheapest supplier.
I found out they were themselves from opus and they lied in order for me to get into a contract for 3 YEARS!!
I contacted energy ombudsman and all the regulators to no avail, telling me it takes a long time, i have to do this and that.I had no choice and couldnt get help even my solicitor told me in order to sue them I would pay lots of money to the lawyers so couldnt get out of the contract.
I'm still suffering from them, high tariffs and phone calls everyday threatening to cut off supply.
No help from anyone.

How a company can get away with the way they treat THIER CUSTOMERS just baffles me.
They did about the same with my company, supposedly sent me a renewal reminder, (that I did not received). So they then rolled over my contract for another year and upped my tarriff from 9.520kwh per day, 5.070kwh per night,& 32.000 per day standing charge to 18.990kwh per day, 12.290 per night, when complained they reduced my tarriff to 15.990kwh per day,8.290kwh per night,& 20.000 per day standing charge . I had a smart meter fitted in june 2010 but my bills were coming in as estimates, the monthly payments at first started, at about £360, but then one came at just over £400. when i called to ask why i got an excuse that the estimate was only about 3 days of useage from them getting my reading, to sending my bill to me and me receiving it, i accepted this explanation. My next bill came in at over £800, I again phoned them to be told that my smart meter had not worked sinse it was fitted so i could owe them more, or they could owe me. (I had a feeling what the outcome would be). They then gave me a verbal date for an engineer to call & examine my smart meter, I then received a letter of comfirmation. I then received a letter to inform me that they were about to take over £3,900 by direct debit from my bank account the day after the meter was to be examined, (BEFORE THE ENGINEER HAD EVEN INSPECTED IT). I was absolutely furious & phoned my bank manager to stop this payment going through. I then called these robbing bullying thugs to explain. Each time I made a call to these people I asked that any calls from them would be made to my mobile. This has never happenned. Then somebody from opus called my business phone line and spoke to a staff member to inform me i had been stopped from making payments by direct debit because of this missed payment. The bill i got after the smart meter was examined was over £1,900 which I was told I must pay emmediatly on a visa or debit card or further action would be taken, Which I did though a little different to the original £3,900 they had orininally tried to get. I've had an absolute nightmare with this company & would advise everyone to steer clear. I have terminated my contract but can't get out untill November 2012. my
bills started at around £360 per month then £550-£650. I have just received my August to September bill which is £784.61 (ONE MONTH).

i got a phone call from an opus worker ( calling from India) telling me he could reduce my bill. he promised me i would pay £125 per month for a 1year contract. I was really happy with this but was still very wary that this sounded to good to be true. realising i was going to deny his offer he then started to tell me not to worry as everything was being recorded, and this was a verbal contract so without the recording would be void. i then told him i was in a contract with scottish power he… Read Full Review

This company are terrible and never to be used by anyone. After a year our contract expired and trying to get rid of them is a nightmare. They claim they have sent you a new contract giving you the time to terminate your existing agreement but this never happens. You then if not extremely careful fail to give them the desired notice and they then rip you off with much higher charges for the next year.
