MWF Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong on my job with MWF. So after approximately a 6months wait from order to install — some of my windows turned up for install. 2 of the 3 bay windows were about 1ft shorter than they should have been, leaving me a with a huge gap and bit of wood to stop the elements for over another month in the middle of winter until new ones were made and installed. Once they were installed — the gaps between the window frame and the wood were left unsealed — I put my hand to the gap and the intense cold air was pumping into my living room, not to mention the sound issues this also caused, which I still have a lot of sound coming through still. I have since filled these gaps myself - which for the price I paid is really insane. The bathroom I asked for privacy glass, now my old window had a floral decorative patter on which I wasn't a fan of — but I could see colours and shapes through the glass (which on a south facing property was great) — this new privacy glass MWF installed stops all colour and shapes coming through, and allows only a little light - it honestly looks like the window has a blue film on it. Wish I'd have been given a sample before going with this option. I have a Gothic arch window, which I understand is a little harder to supply — this took months longer more waiting to get installed, and I was told constantly that MWF's supplier was backed up, I get it, its a supply issue, but all they could do was apologise. My bedroom window had a new architrave built around it, but the gap from the wall is massive, approx 1inch. Which when I raised, the only solution was to polyfil the gap the whole way round the window. Front door no major issues, they forgot to attach a handle I requested on first visit and the fanlight glass has a massive scratch on it. Bunch of scrap / parts left on the side of my property also. So all in all, I spent approx £14k with MWF — wasn't offered a single cent of compensation for the issues or delays. To top it all off — I recommended a friend to get a quote from MWF before all my issues, which was quoted to high. So my friend got quoted from another company for the same window I have, spent a couple grand less than me and was fully installed around 2 months before mine, after being ordered 2 months after mine. I'd avoid MWF in all honestly - which is a shame because the product looks amazing, but service, delivery and finer details massively overlooked.

“Disappointed didn't keep their word.”

written by DLew on 28/03/2017

Went ahead with this company about 18 months ago to replace nearly all the windows and some large sliding glass doors in my home, and I can't say I am very happy with the results. After fitting the sliding doors were crooked, however they were reasonably quick to get someone around to refit them, though to this day they are still less soundproof than they should be. I have had trouble closing an upstairs window which is temperamental but they have so far not got anyone one in to sort the problem. My main bug bear though is that a three of months after fitting a run of tiles that butted up to another window they had fitted, suddenly started peeling away. I live in a townhouse that is identical to all the others in the road and no other house has had this problem. Clearly these tiles had been disturbed during the window fitting and had come loose. I contacted Manchester Window and after some discussion we came to an agreement. We both accepted that the damage was caused by the window fitting however because of the age of the tiles and the weathering effect of time the tiles were not as secure on the wall as they should be. It was agreed that if I paid for the cost of supplying materials to cover up this section of damage then they would come and fit them free of charge, and that would occur as soon as they had a team doing work in my part of the country. The months went buy and nothing happened. I called them every few months, this always took several calls as they were so slow in getting back to me, and when they did it was always the same story, no team was coming to work in my area (London). The last time I spoke to them they said they had no one coming in the near future and I'd do better to find someone local to sort my problem. After 18 months I realised that they had no intention of keeping up their end of the bargain and I had to pay a local man £1200 pounds to re-tile the area. I am not happy!

Hi Alex here from MWF
This customer has insisted that we pay for tiling work to his property despite us sending a surveyor to assess the situation and pointing out that the tiles themselves were loose and brought down in a storm. We invited the customer to obtain a third party survey, but he refuses to do so, insisting that his assessment of the damage is accurate, despite having no building experience at all. As a gesture of good will, we offered to help when we next had a team available in his area of London.
The customer has asked us to pay him £600 to remove this review and other reviews he has posted elsewhere. I will leave this to the reader to draw their own conclusions as to his motives

They didn't send a surveyor, they sent someone who does work for them sometimes, there was no storm, but I can see it would make a good story. They offered me £300 to take the reviews down with out me asking for a ting beforehand in reply , I said that £600 would be half the cost of my repairs and I would accept that. as a satisfactory resolution to our dispute. Noisy windows still not fixed their guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on.

“Terrible Customer Service - Impossible to Get a Quote!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/11/2016

Despite sending two emails (via the contact form on this company's website) then - when I didn't hear anything - following it up with three phone calls over the course of two weeks NOBODY bothered to call me back about my request for a quote for secondary glazing. The girls in the office took my number every time and assured me that someone would call me back every time. It's been two months and I still haven't been contacted. So I have now gone with a different, reliable company to fit secondary glazing to 9 of the windows in my property. Really poor, really terrible customer service. What kind of company turns away business and thousands of pounds of a potential customer's money?

This being the third house that I have had new UPVC bay windows installed I feel that I can talk from a position of strength re. the standard of product and installation of my new ones from Manchester Window factory. The whole experience with Manchester Window factory Factory was a good one, from the initial quote, where unlike most UPVC installers, there was no pressure put on me to buy, to the product and the install which I must say are and were of the highest quality. For that reason I highly recommend the Manchester Window Factory.

I did a lot of research before choosing Manchester Window Factory to supply and install our conservatory because, having worked for a national company in the same industry some years ago, I was aware of the pitfalls of paying too much or paying too little. The installation was completed today and I'm delighted to be able to leave this positive review for quality of the sales process, communication before installation, product quality and last but not least the professionalism of the installers. They even cleaned up all the rubbish and took it with them! We will definitely be using them for any future work as well as recommending them to all our family, friends and visitors. Thanks a lot guys.

Tried to get in touch with anyone within the business regarding secondary glaze windows, was repeatedly told by a very well spoken and polite receptionist that, they had my details on theirs system and to leave it with her and someone will get in touch. I called a number of times and tried contacting them by emails too,but within the three weeks I`v been chasing them no one has either call back or emailed even just to say they are just not interested in the work or they are simply too busy at the moment. Very disappointing!

“Great service! Couldn't be happier!”

written by katiehalstead on 29/07/2015

I had my front door and one bedroom window replaced today by Manchester Window Factory. From start to finish, their service was excellent. Before contacting these guys, I spoke to several other companies. Unlike their competitors, Manchester Window Factory did not go through all the pantomime tactics of starting at a ridiculous price and then reducing it depend on how much resistance you put up! Manchester Window Factory gave me a fair price right from the off and then reduced it slightly to match their competitors. So for the same price as the cheap panto companies, I was getting a better product, a better service and a better guarantee! On the day chosen as most convenient for me, the guys arrived promptly and fitted the window and door within 3 hours! They were polite, friendly and professional. I felt totally safe leaving them with my house and 2 dogs while I popped out for an hour. They put down dust sheets and swept up afterwards, as well as taking away all the debri and old window and door. I'm SO pleased with the end result! A superb service! I would recommend them to anyone!!

Thank you for this review. As we do the quotes ourselves, and don't use salespeople, we won't give you any flannel and the quotes usually take between 15 minutes and one hour, depending on the size of the job and its complexity. We give you an honest price and email it over to you to consider. We have established a solid reputation, use our own fitters and quality products. For this reason, we don't have any need to adopt a "hard-sell" approach.

When selecting a double glazing company to work in your house what to know is that they are honest, reliable and have the skills to complete a good job. Then you want a fair price for a quality product. What you find with many companies is a lot of stupid deals which inspire no confidence what so ever. Manchester Window Company have just Double Glazed my house, they were easy to deal with, inspired confidence when they quoted by understanding my needs an quoting a fair price for a quality product. The work was completed to a high standard by a team of 3 in 2 days (8 casement, 1 bay, 1 patio door).

Our request for a front-door replacement was handled very professionally with great attention to detail. We needed a low, bottom-door, seal in place of the raised one and this was no trouble at all to get arranged. All dates/times for visits and fitting were perfectly kept to and the whole process felt focussed just for us....as it was!

Thanks for taking the time to write this review. While most companies use salespeople who can only sell what's in their brochures, we will always go out of our way to meet our customers' needs, not just flog them our wares! We have been doing this for a long time so, if it's out there and it's possible, we'll find it and do it!

“Two Porches and a Happy Mum”

★★★★★

written by Margaret1921 on 23/08/2014

Following good reviews on this site we arranged MWF to fit two porches, front and back, to my mum’s house. No pressure selling, a good price and the porches were fitted in May 2013. The work was carried out efficiently and considerately. We have been delighted with the work and it gave my mum,at 92, anew lease of life! After the hot summer this year the door lock became a little difficult to lock, and I do mean a little! My mum had got used to simply lifting the handle, letting go and turning the key. Well, one phone call and Mark came within the week and fixed it. Would definitely recommend. Margaret

“Unbelievably poor service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Brian1066 on 21/07/2014

Having had £8500 worth of windows and doors installed in January this year by Manchester Window factory (MWF), I noticed leaks under the front and french doors and one in my newly plastered utility room. I telephoned an advisor only to be advised I could "put some cork between the leak in the french door and the new wooden floor" as that would stop the water getting to it? After this conversation, I told him I would only communicate by e-mail. I then went to the QUANGO CERTASS who proved to be mostly useless. As a result I requested the MWF cusomer complaints policy, which is a "mandatory" condition of membership to CERTASS, which I never received, so can conclude they dont have one. So how did they get accredtied with CERTASS? They told me that after receiving my e-mail and photographs, my complaints were "non-senical", which was not teh repsonse I was expecting from someone who had stated to me that they "were great company, provided great customer service and had never had a complaint". They had left me with three leaks, cosmetically had not bothered to make the front door frame, one window frame and the exterior of the French doors looks neat and tidy (read big gaps and old silcone on the walls) and had even stuffed (now saturated and mouldy) toilet paper under the corner of the front door frame, which I recovered this weekedn after continuing to tidy up their poor quality work. Eventually, a CERTAS survey was carried out and MWF were told to carry out remedial work, which thet did in July 2014, 5 months since after I made the original complaint to MWF. So, if you use them and have the temerity to complain, be prepared to be told that you are being "non-sensical" and should basically go away. After all, you have windows frames with glass, what more do you want, a good, weatherproof installation as well?

Alex here from MWF
Fortunately, I have the right to respond to these reviews and give a balanced account of this situation.
Following installation, we were contacted by Mr O'D who spoke to me on the phone about a range of issues which I listened to with interest. That 'advisor' was, in fact, me and I certainly did not tell him to "just put some caulk in the leak". Some of the issues he described to me simply did not make sense and, as there was other work being carried out at the same time by other companies, asked him to explore the possibility that there was an alternative cause of the damage to his plasterwork. He told me that a pinhead sized section of missing silicone on the underside of a sill joggle had caused plasterwork damage around his French doors on the floor below. This simply did not add up.
Mr O'D then told us that he would commission an independent survey, which we welcomed. When we received this "survey" it was sent from a mobile phone in text speak ("if i woz u etc etc) and included a list of over-priced costings for totally unnecessary works. When I tried to find the company it was from I found no record. When I asked for their credentials, I received no reply.
Getting nowhere, I asked CERTASS to arbitrate on the issue as I felt that Mr O'D's demands were unjustified and I was not willing to pay a trumped-up figure for work which was not required. When they did carry out their survey, the found only that there were some missing areas of silicone which Mr O'D had himself removed.
Wanting to put the matter to bed, our installations manager carried out the work himself and checked that Mr O'D was happy that we had carried CERTASS's recommendations and asked if there was anything else he would like done. He said that he was happy and we assumed the matter was closed.
I can only assume that Mr O'D finds CERTASS to be "useless" because they did not uphold his or the author of his "report's" claims. As members of CERTASS we are also members of the government endorsed TRUSTMARK scheme. We asked them to arbitrate on this matter and willingly carried out their recommendations. This is the first time we have ever had to do this. Usually we will do everything we can to keep our customers happy. That, however, does not, and should not, mean that we bow to their demands where we feel we are not at fault.
We have carried out over 2000 installations in that past 12 months alone. If we did not care about our aftersales service, there would be many such reviews posted online. We take great pride in our reputation. Where a customer has a legitimate issue, we will always try to remedy this is quickly and effectively as possible.

If they've called in the regulator and carried out the required work, where is the problem??? If they were not coming back then I could understand this gripe. But not when the issue has been resolved!!
We had great service from them and I agree that they should not be dictated to by customers and held to ransom.
I bought my windows from MWF because of their reviews and if they were no good I would be on here shouting about bad service, as would many, many others.
I agree with Geoff.lawrenson on this work. Keep up the good work.

I think it was Abraham Lincoln who said, “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.” or words to that effect.
Both you and your brother have offered nothing but exemplary service to us when we had our work done. The whole job went without a hitch and we have been recommending your company.
Some people have nothing better to do than to look for problems and are never satisfied. I'm sure that most people will read between the lines and take this review for what it is...vindictive and nasty.

“Quality Product and Work”

★★★★★

written by ianbutty on 21/03/2013

We have just had 10 Windows, 3 Doors, 1 set of patio doors, all the soffits, guttering and dry verges replaced by Manchester Windows. The sales staff were clear and not at all pushy. There were two installation teams, the first did the windows and doors. These guys were just brilliant. Everything was protected by dust sheets and cleaned afterwards. Apart from the new windows and doors you would never have known they had been there! 10 Windows, 3 doors and a set of patio doors done in less than two and half days! The second team did the soffits, gutters and dry verges. This took a little longer than expected, largely due to the need to cut back some of the roof tiles. I agree with their approach... better to get it right than to rush the job. The finished job looks great. There were a few minor problems during the installations such as a broken paving stone, knocking a satellite dish out of alignment, a damaged window sill and gate catching on the new drain pipe. All of these were immediately dealt with by the installers without them raising any objections. Very pleased with the product and the company's professionalism. Happy to recommend them to others.

“review as promised”

★★★★★

written by Fiona_T on 19/02/2013

Because I had made my enquiry after reading the reviews on this website I promised that I would post a review once the job was done so here it is. The thought of arranging appointments with double glazing salesmen filled me with dread until I was referred to this website to find a reputable company. I can say with my hand on my heart that I couldn't be happier with whole job. Although only four windows and a back door (not the biggest of orders I know) the fitting crew did a super job. They left the house spotless before leaving and I even thought that they were going to do my ironing at one point they were that good!! HAHA The locks are really secure and the argon gas filled double glazing means that I can already feel the benefit in terms of energy efficiency. I will definitely use them again when I get the front done and wouldn't hesitate to refer them to others. Thanks, Fiona T xx

“An impressive conservatory.”

★★★★☆

written by tanyffordd on 01/10/2012

The 8m x 3m conservatory was built on the patio of my bungalow using using three walls of the house for three of its sides. The front provides a fine view. The building looks impressive, both inside and outside, and has been admired by visitors. There were some issues, mostly with the groundwork, but weather conditions during this phase were particularly bad. The quality of the materials used seems to be as good as promised. The conservatory has been finished off to a high standard. It is now about a month since work was completed and, overall, I am very happy to have asked Manchester Window Factory to undertake the project. I would use the company again.

“Great service, great fitters, great result”

written by mjpilkington on 19/07/2012

As soon as Danny had finished his quote we knew that we were going to go with The Manchester Window Factory. No preasure, no ringing the boss to get a discount and no hanging around waiting for an answer, if only all salesmen were like this. A couple of days later Mark came to measure up and three weeks later, after us making some alterations (they even emailed the plans to us so we were sure what we would be getting) they came to fit 7 windows plus a big bay. Mark and Lee were a great team clearing up each night and going out of their way to give us what we wanted. All the windows were cleaned and the rubish taken away and the house looked a million dollars at the end of the three day fit. This was two years in the making, having several quotes and not being confident we would get what we wanted from any of them. Manchester Window Factory were not the cheapest and nowhere near the dearest but every bit as good as companies charging a lot more.

“Poor experience, no response”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TammyT on 13/06/2012

Disappointing. I own a 300 year old cottage and so did a lot of research before choosing MWF. What finally won me over was the over all set of reviews on here and also meeting Danny face to face - all seemed great and so I went ahead and placed the order for 4 windows for the front of my property, with a view to the back being completed in the next phase if all went well. So far so good... Unfortunately, once the windows were fitted (October 2011)three things transpired - the fitters had used decorator's caulk around the INSIDE plastic joins of the window frames instead of silicon - this meant that the windows were getting dirtier and dirtier everytime I attempted to clean them. In addition, they had filled a hole with silicon instead of caulk, meaning it cannot be painted until this is rectified. Lastly, the plastic strip at the top of two of the windows has separated and now has a significant gap. I called and called and emailed both Danny and Alex re: the first two issues - no response. Finally in March 2012 Bob was sent back out to look at this - he agreed that they should never have used caulk where they have and said he would resolve. Sadly the resolution was to silicon over the top of the caulk which, needless to say, has not worked. I was told to leave to dry for 24 hours - I waited 72 before inspecting. Unfortunately, the silicon had feathered and went equally as dirty when the windows were wiped (it didn't cover all of the caulk either)and most of it has had to be pulled off so I am back to square one. I have emailed Alex and not received a response. After how well the start of the process went I am immensely disapointed with how things have ended up. I am left with windows that are permanently dirty and a sour taste in my mouth - I had high hopes and placed my trust in MWF but their post sale service is a real let down. The cost of the windows was more than reasonable, but the quality of fitting and general service has really been disappointing. For this reason I am rating over all value for money as low.

“They listened, and then built exactly what we wanted”

★★★★★

written by IanShort on 14/01/2012

We highly recommend this company. We wanted a conservatory, but not just any conservatory would do. The site is on a significant slope. There was an awkwardly placed drain and pipework to manage. We are keen birdwatchers and were worried that the view of the garden from the main part of the house would be restricted too much. To put it bluntly, we're fussy customers. We selected Manchester Window Factory based on reviews on this site, and from the first e-mail to the last handshake we've been impressed. Their quote wasn't quite the cheapest, but they were the only company keen to listen to what we wanted, rather than trying to sell us their particular product. They were honest and straightforward, telling us from the start exactly what could and could not be achieved, and exactly how much it would cost (no hidden extras). There was no pressure to buy, or nagging follow-up calls when we took our time deciding. Their estimated completion date was realistic, and they kept us informed when, in the end, it did slip by a week or two. They took care with the detail of the design, and were happy to change, without quibble, a few things that we weren't quite comfortable with, such as their initial ideas for bridging the awkward drain. The only misunderstanding was over the height of bottom edge of the opening window, which was almost exactly at my eye-line (I'm 6ft tall) and very irritating. We only found that out once the frame was up, and we were delighted when, even at that late stage, they were able to replace the offending panel with a plain one. All the MWF people, and the craftsmen they employed, were invariably polite, considerate and competent. The plumber could do with learning to re-lay carpets properly after lifting them to get at the pipework, but that was the only minor niggle. The conservatory itself is uPVC, 3m x 6m lean-to style with a hipped roof at one end, a glass roof, full height double-glazed panels and rosewood coloured finish. We're delighted with it. Inevitably there were a few minor concerns after the job was completed: there was a minor leak when very heavy rain found its way in; the small panel at right angles to the sliding door flexed visibly if the door was closed too quickly; one of the outside plastic end caps was pushed loose by thawing snow sliding off the roof; and the radiator didn't heat up properly. All these problems (except the radiator) were quickly sorted out by Alex, Bob and the team, though we will need to keep an eye on the door. It is covered by their guarantee, so we're not worried about it. The radiator is the only mild disappointment. Despite a replacement thermostatic valve it just doesn't seem to get hot enough to heat a big conservatory. It might just be that it's quite cold outside, of course. To sum up: In our experience Manchester Window Factory is a straightforward, competent and considerate company who care about their customers and are prepared to go the extra mile to make sure those customers get the conservatory that they want. Thanks very much to them for a job well done.

We have just had old uPVC windows / doors replaced and went with Manchester Window Factory based on reviews on this site. The team performed wonders in awful weather conditions for most of the week they were with us. The frames, handles, A rated glazed units and new composite door are all top quality and we can only endorse all the glowing reviews already written. It is a pleasure to do business with people that know what they are doing, operate in a friendly and professional manner and hence we highly recommend them. Thanks guys. Neil & Anita

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site so not entirely sure of how things work. I live in Whitehaven, Cumbria, so about 150 miles from Manchester. Has any one living this far away had windows done by them? And, if so, what are they like for after sales? E.G. If after they've left I notice a problem with something will they come back?

Thanks for answering this question.

We live in Lincolnshire, about 100 miles from Manchester and in the last few months have had our windows replaced and conservatory reglazed by Manchester Windows. We found them to be honest, friendly and totally professional in every aspect of the jobs. The whole experience was positive and we have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. In respect of their after sales service, it is second to none, and an aftersales issue was dealt with urgently and effectively. The good thing about this company is that you are not hassled by salesmen who lie to get commission, and you talk directly to the owners. These people may not be the cheapest but you have no worries when you use them, and in my experience that is unusual today. Ian Gallagher.

I live in Kentish town, Camden, North London so approx. 200 miles from Manchester. They installed 14 upvc sliding sash windows for me around 4 to 5 years ago. I called them last month as one of the windows was becoming more difficult to operate than the others, to be fair it's the one we use much more than the others. They sent a chap down the next day to adjust the window and it works now as it did the day it was installed. I certainly found them to be good to their word and they honoured their guarantee and promises made when the order was first placed. I don't think you could be in better hands to be honest, good luck, Tina Copthorne

We have used them twice. Once on a renter we own in Manchester and another on our house approx 90 miles away from them. I know they travel but the job has to be big enough. After care is good. We had a problem on ours house in the Midlands and they were there within 48hrs so not bad.

I live about 120 miles from Manchester in North Wales. There are currently problems with my conservatory. I had no response to a letter after four weeks. I have since had a phone call following calls I made after returning from holiday. Apparently I sent the letter to the wrong MWF office in Manchester. I am now waiting for further response.

I note from looking on their website that they are Certass registered and not Fensa. My colleague at work tells me that they are the same, is this correct?

No, they're different organisations but appear to offer a broadly similar service, but I suggest you google the question yourself & make your own judgment.  Incidentally, our windows/doors were installed by "The Manchester Windows Factory" just under 2 years ago. The work was competently done, there have been no problems to date, & I have no reason to change the positive review I gave at the time

Hi, Thanks for raising this. Building regulations stipulate that any window and/or door installation carried out since April 2002 needs to be compliant with Documnent L building regs. This relates, mainly, to fire escapes, ventilation and energy ratings. There are three organisations authorised to regulate our industry, Fensa, BSI and Certass. Because Fensa were the first to do it, this certificate is generically known as a 'Fensa' certificate. We chose to go with Certass because they offer the certificate and the insurance backing for our guarantees under one umbrella. Through them we are also part of the Government endorsed TRUSTMARK scheme. This means that our work is randomly inspected to ensure best practice. I hope this answers your question. If you require further clarification, please contact your local building control and they will verify what I have said. Thanks again

I'm not an expert on double glazing but I believe the Certass / Fensa provide the same guarentee of workmanship. I had all my windows and doors replaced by Manchester Windows and was pleased with the result. The men work very hard and do a good job. I contacted Manchester Windows for minor problems since then and have been satisfied with their after sales service so far.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Just a bit nervous with all the dodgy window companies out there. I had D round last, lovely man, and I placed an order. Looking forward to writing a review of my own Can't wait now, really excited :)

Hi, afraid that is too technical for me, have looked on the internet and they appear to be the same. The job they do is second to none, absolutely perfect. Sueg815
