just back from new York...from check in to baggage claim we have NO complaints. the plane was clean, seats comfy and plenty of room, staff were friendly and helpful...constantly offering complimentary food/drink. would definitely fly with them again...very positive experience… Read Full Review

“flight cancelled”

Written on: 30/08/2013

Very unhappy customer. Was due to fly out on 29/07/2013 from Edinburgh to New York then stop over for 3 hrs then fly to Florida. flight should have been at 12.05 we were told flight delayed then later on that evening told flight cancelled and told to come back following day and flight was for 1pm.They put us up in hotel overnight, but throughout the day ground staff were not very helpful. When we flew out the following day instead of 3 hour stop over in New York we had 6 hour stop over which… Read Full Review

“RIPOFF”

Written on: 26/08/2013 by Ph0t0n (1 review written)

I needed to cancel the first leg of my roundtrip flight. United Airlines is trying to tell me that to do that I need to pay them $200 or they'll cancel the entire flight. Basically I'm giving them a free seat on that flight that they can resell to someone, and for my generosity, they want to charge me $200! WTF?! When I asked if that made any sense the rude lady on the phone said "That policy has worked pretty good for us so far". This is THEFT as far as I'm concerned. I've flown on United… Read Full Review

“No Big Issues”

Written on: 15/08/2013

San Juan to Manchester UK via Newark on 10 August. Both flights on time 737 from San Juan to Newark at bit cramped but 757 to Manchester much better. Only snacks for purchase on first leg but good food and plenty of complimentary soft drinks on Newark to Manchester. Flight crew good on both legs, the only minus was the pedantic check in assistant at san Jaun who made us change items from one case to the other because one was 1 lb overweight[the other case was 2 lbs under!)… Read Full Review

“The worst airline i have flown with. ”

Written on: 04/08/2013 by Kenjenkins (1 review written)

It is difficult to write anything that I liked. We were sat down and the announcements were made. 'We would like to welcome you aboard this flight uaxxx with a special welcome to our premier and first class customers.' WHY ARE SOME PASSENGERS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OTHERS? This got me to start with. We had 3 flights to our destination and 2 to fly back home, this was the announcement on each flight. Quite clearly they are not the slightest bit bothered about economy class passengers. Unfortunately… Read Full Review

Third time straight that united could not make it on time. last time they kept me on the tarmac for two hours, got me to Houston after my plane left for Mexico. Gave me food vouchers for all the restaurants that were closed. Lost my bags for two days. would not deliver my baggage in Mexico after they found it.They lost my refund request and the number they gave me to track the second one can not match to my name. Even their employees have complained to me. john… Read Full Review

“Will NEVER Use United Airlines Again”

Written on: 13/07/2013

Seats very uncomfortable; you have to pay to check your luggage; and they don't even offer complimentary snacks for an international flight!! Representatives at the airport are useless, have no knowledge and were incredibly rude. The new luggage I received and used for my honeymoon was completely destroyed: wheels ripped off, zippers broken, and metal sticking out. When I tried to file a claim when I was returning home, I was told I had to file a claim within 24 hours. How I am supposed to do… Read Full Review

“VILE UNITED AIRLINES REP”

Written on: 10/07/2013

I was checking in a couple of weeks ago and I was not happy about the how long we were waiting in the queue to check in as we was waiting for over 40 minutes to get checked in. When I asked the staff at the check in desk to speak to who was in charge of United, a man came along named Huw Forsey and told me he was the 'manager' for united at birmingham. He was RUDE! ARROGANT! And told me if I had a problem to deal with and 'get over it'. I asked to speak to somebody higher and he told me to… Read Full Review

“Worst Airline Ever! EVER!”

Written on: 02/07/2013

I fly over 30,000 miles a year on this airline and over the last 2 years I have experienced nothing but problem after problem. They talk about "loyalty" in the advertisements but if you are not 1K, Plat or Gold there is no loyalty to you. I have experienced dirty, old planes, delayed and cancelled flights, overbooked flights, and mechanical problems. 98% of my flights over the last 2 years have had a moderate to severe problems. If you can help it - do not fly this airline! It is the… Read Full Review

“TRIP FROM HELL, THIRD WORLD AIRLINE EXPERIENCE”

Written on: 27/06/2013

You would think that flying from Orange County, CA to Paris is easy? Think again with United. Because we bought my 8 years old and my ticket with frequent flyer miles, the itinary was Orange County-Chicago-Toronto-Paris. From the start, it was bad. We waited for one hour in the plane for two passengers arriving from a connecting flight. It is not a bother to make a whole plane late if they can fill their plane to full capacity. Once in Chicago, the flight to Toronto was two hours late! I tried… Read Full Review

“Terrible customer service”

Written on: 21/06/2013 by jbque (1 review written)

I booked two flight segments, one from Nashville to Dulles, the other from Dulles to Raleigh. Both on seperate days. UA cancelled the Nashville to Dulles segment so had to put me on Delta through Atlanta to get me in that night, 3.5 hrs late. The next day I went to counter to check in for flight to Raleigh and was told the ticket was fulfilled as a one-way and they could not get me on the flight without me paying full same day fare. I told them that I never agreed to have my flight cancelled… Read Full Review

“I Haven't Taken United Unless Forced Since 2006.”

Written on: 21/06/2013

When I worked in Business, I was tricked into my preference for United because I was using American Airlines a lot and, when my flight from Atlanta to Chicago was canceled upon arrival, I was re-booked into First Class in United and I was very happy. I switched over but then, that was the last time I had good service with United...that was in 1999. I'm spoiled. I fly internationally a lot of the time so I'm used to some fantastic customer service but when I would take a flight on United, or… Read Full Review

“Never again will I use United ”

Written on: 12/06/2013

Tried to use frequent flyer miles WHAT A HUGE JOKE. After jumping through ridiculous hoops for a week. We finally got our "secret" password and account. Then another day to get me on my husbands account. Can't understand a fourth of what the heavily accented operator was saying (really I'm going to book a flight when I can barely understand the person??). Then find out that the fees and mileage they charge are outrageous. 50k miles for a under 2k trip because it somehow is a "special" flight… Read Full Review

“Economy Plus is RIPOFF! ”

Written on: 08/06/2013 by notme2017 (2 reviews written)

My friend and I purchased over $200 of Economy Plus seats on a flight from O'Hare Chicago to Frankfurt Germany. Because of my Chase United credit card, we were in boarding group 4, but the gate agents called 8,7, and 6 before 4. After they called 6, we boarded anyway! There were no space in the overheads for even a camera case. The flight attendants stood around and didn't even help "anyone"! After we got in the air, one flight attendant, just pushed carts. He never did any thing else or even… Read Full Review

“May with customer service was fantastic ”

Written on: 06/06/2013 by kevans12 (1 review written)

I was having major difficulties with some previous flight reciepts that I had booked for my company. May was very open to hearing what I had to say and was very considerate and willing to suggest many options for what I could do. She helped me along the way and made sure she explained everything clearly to me so I could understand what the issues were. She REALLY cared and really wanted to help me. She made it an easy process for me, and I want to thank her!… Read Full Review

“Moms and babies, no pre-boarding for you!!! ”

Written on: 05/06/2013 by pjnickle (1 review written)

My daughter flew for the first time with her 9 month old today from Phoenix to Chicago. She asked the gate attendant if she could board early so they could get settled in and put away all the things babies need hauled around with them. The snarky gate attendant informed her they haven't done that for young children in 10 years! So have we lost all civility at the airlines? Is there no common courtesy left amongst the airlines? What is absurd is my husband is an United Elite frequent flyer and… Read Full Review

“WORST airline ever!!! ”

Written on: 04/06/2013

I have had so many HORRIBLE experiences on United since the changeover from Continental!! I can't even begin to list them all!!! Never fly with United!! I have had so many non weather related delays and cancellations, and just downright RUDENESS from all of the staff I have encountered even in business class. And I have had things stolen from my luggage and the customer service people were incredibly rude to me, one hung up on me before i could even finish explaining the situation. “They are terrible”

Written on: 30/05/2013

Don't use United! We booked Grand Rapids to Newark to Heathrow - the plane feom Grand Rapids was one and a half hours late so we missed our connection in Newark to Heathrow. No effort was made by United staff to help us make a new connection. I had to phone a United customer service line from Newark to make an alternative arrangement. Returning to the USA today, our United flight from Heathrow was delayed indefinitely and we were transferred to a flight to Dullus to connect to Grand Rapids… Read Full Review

“No refunds for my illness”

Written on: 15/05/2013

Last week I was diagnosed with cancer and I requested a refund from United Airlines. I attached a copy of a letter from my surgeon stating that I needed to cancel my travel arrangements. Today I received the following response from United: "Thank you for contacting Customer Refund Services regarding the above referenced ticket. We regret that we cannot issue the refund requested, and would like to explain why; exceptions due to illness are granted based on the ability to travel in the future… Read Full Review

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I too was diagnosed with cancer and had to cancel a trip. My husband and I were each issued a travel certificate. My husband tried to use them to book a trip and was told he could only use one per trip. So, that left me with mine. I tried to use it and was told it had already been used, by someone named Thomas. That's all the info they would give me and basically said it was my fault for not "guarding" my certificate. Not sure what that means since the certificate was just code I got over the phone. I wish you luck with your refund and most of all with your health.

Hi, thank you for your kind words and I am sorry to hear that you too have been diagnosed with cancer. I don’t think anybody really understands the disease unless they or somebody close to them is suffering from it.

I never got a refund from United Airlines but thankfully I had travel insurance and was able to claim most of the cost of my flights. So United Airlines made a tidy profit from me. I cancelled my flights, they kept my money and were then able to sell the tickets to other passengers. I am still receiving treatment for cancer and in the meantime, I have been diagnosed with a new cancer (triple negative breast cancer) which has a very low survival rate so even if I had opted to travel against the wishes of my surgeon, I wouldn’t have been well enough to travel before the tickets expired.

I wish you all the best with your treatment and hope you make a full and speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry about the new diagnosis. I hope you have a good support system in your family and friends. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, after my daughter was born. I am one of the lucky ones that caught it before it spread.

I wish you all the best in your fight and pray you beat this thing!
