Very old, civil war era plane, and they actually have smoking rows! They stopped building planes with smoking rows over 20 years ago!
The plane was two hours late. We boarded on time, but we had to spend those two hours on the runaway, which I can assure you, is no fun. The cause was some mechanical problem. I've flown United a total of 4 times in my life, and 3 to 4 times the plane was delayed by an hour or more.
No leg room whatsoever, unless you pay $150 to upgrade your seat, and get 6… Read Full Review

I would probably not fly with United Airlines again if I had a choice. I flew from Dallas to Denver and I arrived 1 hour early with no baggage to check. I was told the wrong gate of departure at Dallas/Fort Worth airport. I finally arrived at the gate 25 minutes before the departure time, and I was denied boarding because I wasn't there 30 minutes before boarding. This delayed me about 3 to 4 hours to the next flight. I am 5 foot 3 inches in height, and my knees were cramped to the seat in… Read Full Review

The United Airline flight I experienced made me never want to fly with them again. I never thought of United as a nice or quality airline, and my experience reinforced that much more. The plane was ancient, and it was making very strange noises that had my sister and I nervous for our lives. The service was almost non-existent. Part of my group was split up because United messed up our tickets, and we all weren't near each other, but I was able to sit near my sister due to the kindness of the… Read Full Review

The United Airlines ticket agent was sweet until things started to go bad. Then she disappeared. Yes, she just left.
Re-booking a flight after the plane breaks down. Take my word for it. Just go home and get what ever money they will give you. United could not get me from Chicago to Detroit for two days after one of their RJ-145's broke down. That would have been the day I was returning. Then they would not refund my change fee of $100.00 after THEY cancelled the flight and I wanted my money… Read Full Review

My experience on United Airlines has been excellent, although I often hear people complain about them. Our flights were on time, and though the food was not spectacular (but what do people expect? Just think about the number of meals distributed in one day among just United - they do a great job) it was a great experience. People should really consider the way United is dedicated to safety in all of its manifestations. What I really appreciate is the professional staff. The attendants were… Read Full Review

I booked a United Airlines flight out of Burlington (Vermont) to Sydney (Australia), with stops in Chicago and Los Angeles. The flight out of Chicago was late of more than 90 minutes and we were very close to miss our connection in LA. They wouldn't close the door of the plane even after we were suppose to have taken off. At first, they said it was the weather (Chicago in December, it was indeed likely), then they said it was the de-icing, then they said they had to put more luggage in the… Read Full Review

I always had high expectations about United but everything proved to be much better even than I expected; food was tasteful and of good quantity; all flights were on time; planes are up to date and very well mentained- much legroom in Economy Plus; drinks were offered all 30 min. I could find some of my favourite music and films in their IFE; staff extremely polite, helpful and friendly(especially on IAD-FRA); All in all, I haven't been so satisfied with a flight or an airline for a long time… Read Full Review

I flew with United for the first time on Feb 1st 06 from London Heathrow-New York JFK and I have to say that the service was absolutely fantastic. I travelled in economy on the outbound leg of the trip and found the service and manner of the staff to be excellent, they treat you like they actually care about you not like most airlines who just want to feed you, shut you up and get you off the plane. The food was very good indeed I had a roast chicken dinner with all the veg followed by various… Read Full Review

I just recently going on a buisness trip from Chicago Illinois to Springfield Illinois. I decided to fly United Express to Springfield so I would not have to drive. I got to Ohare Airport(Ord) in Chicago and I got right on the plane and everything was very old. This plane was a J-41 plane just a regional Jet plane. When we got off the runway there was a huge sound that came from the back of the plane and then the whole plane smelled like smoke. Then a flight attendant came to me and told me to… Read Full Review

Having just returned yesterday I feel compeled to warn other travellers on the disgusting service recieved by United Airlines ground staff. My flight was London Heathrow to McCarran International Airport via Chicago. From check in at Heathrow the service recieved was horrific to say the least the problem continued with instances too complex to detail but the end result was delayed baggage and a threat of cancelled return ticket and arrest due to my complaint of lost baggage. British travellers… Read Full Review

I booked the ticket from BKK to SJC and booked open ticket to go back. I tried to book the open ticket that I bought 4 months prior to the date, and they said it is unavailable the whole month. For me, it is fine to upgrade and pay more, but United Airlines, has a very very strict regulation. The United agent said I have to pay $75 dollars more and give me very inconvenient way to pay. The lady said United won't allow me to pay by phone and said that I have only 3 days to go to united office to… Read Full Review

I flew United Airlines in November 2004, firstly from London to San Francisco and then on to Hawaii. The return journey was via LA rather than San Fran.
Given that it was both the first time I'd flown since 1990 and been on a wide body plane, it came as a bit of a shock to see such good service. The London -San Fran flight left 10 minutes early (not common I understand) and economy was way better than United brand themselves. Don't get me wrong, economy isn't 1st class so don't expect sofa's… Read Full Review

United Airlines - This was my first time ever flying on my own and to America and the staff were extremely helpful and I got a free upgrade on my ticket to Economy Plus - I was extremely chuffed and any time I had a question someone was there and very helpful towards completing the Visa Waiver form
The only let down has to be the food but the drinks were really good :)
Thank you to everyone and I do hope to go again next year… Read Full Review

I recently (April 05) flew United Washington / Miami / Washington with United Airlines. The ground staff were friendly and accommodating however the cabin staff could have been friendlier. The planes were on time departing and arriving both ways. On the way down the flight was constantly bumpy ... which the pilot was reassuring over. Pity United closed their lounge at Miami, spending time in McDonalds there is not fun! I thought 2 1/2 hours would have merited more than tea and peanuts but… Read Full Review

I have flown United since 2000 and racked up a couple of hundred thousand flight miles with them. I have never had a bad flight, but obviously some flights have been better than others. Staff are attentive and polite, but do not tolerate rude behaviour (quite rightly as well). I always book economy class, but have frequently been upgraded on long-haul flights. My only unfortunate experience was flying home from the US (San Fran) prior to Christmas with my 7-month pregnant wife, when the… Read Full Review

Where do I start. We were booked on a connecting flight from Washington to new York with United Airlines.
We landed in time, dashed over to the gate, and waited. We waited. We waited some more. Our departure time passed. No announcements. We all waited. We finally then were asked to board - 30 mins after departure time.
No walkway to the plane and it was raining heavy. Our luggage was stood outside the plane waiting to be loaded, that also received a soaking - as did we.
We boarded… Read Full Review

Upon arrival at McCarran we were informed our flight with United Airlines had been cancelled. (never did find out why) The only place we could obtain information was by phoning a automated message which was useless as all it told you was that the flight had been cancelled or, having to queue at the check-in desk which we did for nearly two and a half hours! We then spent the next hour trying to arrange satisfactory onward travel. The check-in operator was totally imcompetent and was not at… Read Full Review

I had read so many negative reviews about United long-haul and to my absolute surprise they were exceptional and in future will choose United as my preferred airline between Australia and the US,
The FA's were fantastic, real characters that made you laugh unlike the very impersonal dull Qantas FA's that cannot even smile superficially in the economy cabin. The seats too on United are definitely more spacious than other airlines on the same route in the economy cabin. Really enjoyed my flight… Read Full Review
