Very old, civil war era plane, and they actually have smoking rows! They stopped building planes with smoking rows over 20 years ago!
The plane was two hours late. We boarded on time, but we had to spend those two hours on the runaway, which I can assure you, is no fun. The cause was some mechanical problem. I've flown United a total of 4 times in my life, and 3 to 4 times the plane was delayed by an hour or more.

I would probably not fly with United Airlines again if I had a choice. I flew from Dallas to Denver and I arrived 1 hour early with no baggage to check. I was told the wrong gate of departure at Dallas/Fort Worth airport. I finally arrived at the gate 25 minutes before the departure time, and I was denied boarding because I wasn't there 30 minutes before boarding. This delayed me about 3 to 4 hours to the next flight. The United Airlines ticket agent was sweet until things started to go bad. Then she disappeared. Yes, she just left.

Re-booking a flight after the plane breaks down. Take my word for it. Just go home and get what ever money they will give you. United could not get me from Chicago to Detroit for two days after one of their RJ-145's broke down. That would have been the day I was returning. I always had high expectations about United but everything proved to be much better even than I expected; food was tasteful and of good quantity; all flights were on time; planes are up to date and very well mentained- much legroom in Economy Plus; drinks were offered all 30 min. Having just returned yesterday I feel compeled to warn other travellers on the disgusting service recieved by United Airlines ground staff. My flight was London Heathrow to McCarran International Airport via Chicago. My sister and I have just travelled between Heathrow and NYC (return) and I have to say I am a seasoned traveller, but have never, I repeat never, had such scruffy, loathsome cabin crew on any flight in my entire life. To cap it all, my sister and I were crammed into a back row with hardly any leg room as the seats in front had metal containers underneath, we had to climb in and out of our seats. To watch the movies was a joke as my screen was on the seat to the right of me and I had to crane my neck to watch it, although the entertainment was very poor anyway. The food, another issue, was terrible, coffee cold, and you had to practically beg for water through the journey! The staff appeared to think anything other than serving the meals was not warranted! All in all, I definitely will never travel with this airline again.

I booked the ticket from BKK to SJC and booked open ticket to go back. I tried to book the open ticket that I bought 4 months prior to the date, and they said it is unavailable the whole month. For me, it is fine to upgrade and pay more, but United Airlines, has a very very strict regulation. The United agent said I have to pay $75 dollars more and give me very inconvenient way to pay. I flew United Airlines in November 2004, firstly from London to San Francisco and then on to Hawaii. The return journey was via LA rather than San Fran.

Given that it was both the first time I'd flown since 1990 and been on a wide body plane, it came as a bit of a shock to see such good service. The London -San Fran flight left 10 minutes early (not common I understand) and economy was way better than United brand themselves. I flew with United Airlines on may 27 from London to New York (JFK) and agree that all was fine with the flight/times/ and food .
<br>My big disapointment came on arrival at JFK, where i discovered my luggage had not arrived on my flight .To add insult to injury nobody from UA. seemed in the least bit interested in my plight! They couldn't trace my baggage and when they did , 24 hours later,... they then informed me they couldn't contact anyone to get it sent on to me??? Eventualy after FOUR DAYS' it turned up ,but the thing that sticks in my mind was the complete disinterest shown by everyone at UA. On my arrival home I wrote a letter of complaint dated 27th June 2005,and received a letter on the 11th July from UA telling me they would look into my comments. I'm still waiting,!!! and it;s now September the 8th.2005. Somebody at UA;s customer services needs a rocket up their @*#,and that.s being polite!!!

United Airlines - This was my first time ever flying on my own and to America and the staff were extremely helpful and I got a free upgrade on my ticket to Economy Plus - I was extremely chuffed and any time I had a question someone was there and very helpful towards completing the Visa Waiver form

The only let down has to be the food but the drinks were really good :)

Where do I start. We were booked on a connecting flight from Washington to new York with United Airlines.

We landed in time, dashed over to the gate, and waited. We waited. We waited some more. Our departure time passed. No announcements. We all waited. We finally then were asked to board - 30 mins after departure time.

I had read so many negative reviews about United long-haul and to my absolute surprise they were exceptional and in future will choose United as my preferred airline between Australia and the US,
The FA's were fantastic, real characters that made you laugh unlike the very impersonal dull Qantas FA's that cannot even smile superficially in the economy cabin.
