what a find! four of us went for lunch there two weeks ago -nearly didn't though as some of the reveiws for this place were less than complimentery-but one of our party had been going since it openen a number a years ago and said that they had always enjoyed it and never had a bad meal-so glad we went,we had a wonderful afternoon, two courses for £11.99(thoug we all had three as we couldn't resist the toffee creme brullee or the dark chocolate tart with orange sorbet.my husband and i went again… Read Full Review

“Great food, but not great on service!”

Written on: 29/08/2011 by kjandj (1 review written)

We have eaten here many times before, the food is always amazing, never had a bad meal! We have seen this pub change from an old village pub in to a very posh looking restaurant. The food has always been outstanding, and reasonably priced. We visit yestday lunch time, and thought we would try and sit in the restaurant and not in the bar, big mistake, we were found a table within 5 minutes, we were left for 20 minutes until we had to ask for our order to be taken, we ordered drinks at the same… Read Full Review

“A Dog That Needs Putting Down”

Written on: 17/08/2011 by BruceEBonus (2 reviews written)

Went here today when a local workmate suggested we go for lunch. She had the cheese coated chicken baguette and I had the ham and plum suave ciabbatta thingy. Both cost around the five quid mark. Came with no chips, or crisps or well...anything. Just a smidgeon of tired looking salad. Quite a generous portion admittedly but not in any way memorable. Really the kind of thing you could make yourself in two minutes wi a cob, a slice of thick ham and a coating of relish. But pay ten times as much… Read Full Review

“Have had better school dinners”

Written on: 08/08/2011

Shocking meal - worst we've had in a Derbyshire pub in the past five years. Spiced Turkish Meatball starter had no discernible spice, was greasy and contained more gristle per meatball than I've seen in any cheap sausage; the tsatsiki was yogurt with cucumber and not much else. Main course of Slow-cooked Rosemary lamb was a pile of fatty roast lamb, with little flavour (no rosemary in eveidence) and left a residual coating of fat in the mouth: sub-school dinner standard, certainly not a 'gastro'… Read Full Review

we were passing thru as we have just purchased property in the area so thought it looked a welcoming nice country pub/restaraunt where we could have a nice meal with the children after a hard day renovating our newly purchased property, we were greeted by a young man behind the bar who abruptly asked is what we would like, we ordered our drinks and asked if he had any fruit shoots for the children to drink, NO was his reply, then appeared a lady who in an rude and abrupt manner told us NO… Read Full Review

I booked a table for 8o'clock as a treat for my friend's birthday. Service was appalling. We had to ask for a menu and a drink, we were told where our table was, but not taken to it. The girl just said it was the second one along "over there"... We waited nearly half an hour, and had to get her attention to place our order. When I went out to the loo, she was outside having a "fag break" The restaurant manageress seemed to be doing all the work, while the 2 waitresses, who were so badly dressed… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/02/2011 by Legolas1981 (1 review written)

Dont listen to the negative reviews. They are probably the kind of people who are never happy with anything.

Coming from the local area I have been to the Dog Inn in Pentrich on numerous occasions over many years. Every time I have been the food has been exquisite and the service excellent. Sure, sometimes people make mistakes like not laying the table for the correct number of people, as one person said.. but hey, thats life. get over it!

I have been here for parties, romantic meals… Read Full Review

terrible service and food, looks and sounds great but was just horrid. Staff were poorly trained and rude, more interested in chatting to each other than doing their jobs. Left all our empties on the table, never once asked us if we'd like a drink we had to keep asking them or just go and get it from the bar ourselves. I had pork it was severly overcooked and the fat hadn't been rendered at all. Food was not as desribed. A terrible experience, i will not return. Waste of money, much… Read Full Review

We had just moved into the Pentrich area and had been told to go to The Dog Inn for food as it had an excellent reputation. My partner had pre booked the table earlier on in the day and specifically told them that we had children 3, 8 & 15, they said they didnt cater for children but to bring them and they would be fine !Well I can assure you it was not fine at all we got there and were told to take a seat in the waiting area a woman came up to us and the first thing she said was "we dont do… Read Full Review

I came here tonight to celebrate my engagement. The service I recieved was appaling - the manageress was speaking down toher staff like dirt on the floor in front of other customers, making myself and my party feel very uncomfortable. When the food was served an hour after it had been ordered, we recieved a dish with an ingredient in that I had asked the manageress to leave out due to an allergy, however, when I asked this, the waitress had no idea if the ingredient was in there or not, and… Read Full Review

Written on: 11/11/2010

probably the worst experience of dining that I have ever had. The tables were too close together and our night was completely spoiled by another diner who accused me of "watching her". Her psychotic behaviour and the failure of the staff to recognise her agressive behaviour upset our evening and we will never dine there again. The fact that we ere nearly sat on their table did not help but the food wasn't that great either… Read Full Review

I visited the Dog Inn this lunchtime with my husband and daughter. We were in Pentrich to visit the church and knew nothing about the Inn before we arrived. What a find! We couldn't believe our luck. The inn itself is decorated to a high standard and is comfortable and beautifully clean in all areas. The food was delicious - a good choice, beautifully cooked and presented. The staff were efficient, quick and helpfull. Although we live a good way away we will definitely plan more visits to… Read Full Review

My grandmother and I visited The Dog Inn, Pentrich for the first time today - and I can safely say it won't be the last! We went on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. Once we ordered drinks we were seated at our table. My first impression of the restaurant was 'wow!' The decor is a beautiful, intimate purple and the tables and chairs are laid out nicely.
There is plenty to choose from on the menu and I was spoilt for choice. The food was absolutely delicious and presented as a work of art. There was… Read Full Review

Written on: 15/07/2010

Visited The Dog pub at pentritch tonight, very dissapointed. Six of us went for a meal for my daughters boyfriends 21st. Not a lot of choice on the menu,we struggled to find something. Small portions and over priced for what you get. The meals are well presented, but they do not taste as good as they look. Could not complain as we would have liked as the birthday boy was already embarrased and dissapointed for picking the place. So we tried to make the most of a bad job, what a shame… Read Full Review

Written on: 11/02/2009 by LizD (5 reviews written)

This I think is the best restaurant by far in the Amber Valley in Derbyshire. Its a real gem. The dog Inn is a great country pub keeping its olde world charm with woodburning stove and beams but with a modern twist.

The restaurant food here is exceptional with a good selection main courses. We've tried the chicken, steak with stilton, duck, and venison. All were delicious. The presentation of each course is a work of art (one of my friends took photos of everything, she was so impressed) and… Read Full Review
