Who thought up this design? I was looking to replace our old and cheap kettle that has given up the ghost. I thought that boiling a single cup of water at a time was a great idea and was very 'green' But its absolutley useless. The amount of water boiled is fixed. It isn't enough to fill a mug, but press the button again and the cup overflows. You can't fill up tea pots, caffetierres etc. This is the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. It's going back to Currys tomorrow and I'll buy a… Read Full Review

I love this but it leaks all over the place (ruined my digital camera which i'd left on the side)
Does not fill up a standard size mug and has a funny taste to the water.
will be contacting brevil for a replacement/refund… Read Full Review

Purchased just over a year ago thought this was brilliant but recently it has started automatically reboiling and dispensing hot water, so now we have to stand and watch it fill the cup then press the stop button (and switching it off the socket just in case), quite a shock finding an over flowing cup and boiling hot tea all over the worktop and it was still pumping out more hot water..!!!… Read Full Review

Purchased the Breville Hot Cup Kettle two months ago as loved the idea you can only boil one cup, thought it was fantastic until yesterday when it started to cut out during boiling, Spoke to Argos who say they will exchange it as it is only two months old, also it does not always give you a full cup of hot water, one cup will half fill and the next cup will overflow and it no longer sits snuggly on the base it wobbles about as it boils and Yes its very noisy. Hope the replacement is better… Read Full Review

Breville "Hotcup". What a wonderful idea for my mother-in-law, on her own now, but has arthritic hands, so has difficulty lifting kettle. Got one from Argos (although this fact is unnecessary) and it leaked from the base of the handle just with cold water in it!! Took it back, got another one, fantastic, fills a mug with very hot water, bit noisey though, but ideal for ma-in-law. Just putting it back in box noticed water at the base at the back, yes you guessed it leaking water from the… Read Full Review

The catch will break.
The unit will leak.
The silver release button may drop inside the handle.
The drinks do taste bad but you get used to it.
If you are very unlucky it will also smell of sulphur (rotten Eggs) sometimes when it boils.

We love it - we do not think it is noisy - we bought the variable one (£60 from Comet) The drip tray is in exactly the right place - but we never need it because we have the variable setting. It boils enough water in 30 seconds to fill a large mug (With room left for milk) This kettle has got to save us money in the long term… Read Full Review

I thought it was great at first. I'm the only one that drinks hot drinks in my house, so a one-cup kettle sounded like a good idea. However, I found I missed my normal kettle sometimes when cooking, so ended up with 2 kettles side by side on my worktop.
But, after a couple of months, my one-cup started leaking out of the sides or the base. At first, I thought it was the drip tray, but no, it actually leaks out of the joins on the front of the kettle… Read Full Review

I have no idea what the taste is from the machine but we can't drink the water I will be taking it back to the shop in the morning. The machine looks great and is so easy to use I thought it would be perfect as I have a baby and could make the millions of bottles up, am really disappointed with this strange taste anyone else had this problem ?… Read Full Review

Only had mine for a short while but simply love it, have got used to the variable amounts switch and the boiling noise does not last long so no compaints about that. Much better than a kettle and so much quicker, might keep a kettle handy for large family gatherings and needs for large pots of tea. Nothing I don't like about it!… Read Full Review

saw one at my sisters & said thats what I want so went out & bought one.
why was this simple devise not thought of before.?
fantastic invention, only one drawback is length of cable ,not long enough to reach plugs so have to use extension lead ,but it has not put me of useing it.
first thing we do when we come in is just press the button for a quick cuppa.
before when asked to do a cuppa hubby,s reply was dont know how to but now he comes & says is it time for a cuppa.
just wish I could have… Read Full Review

At last I have a fast way to boil water for both tea and coffee. I have placed my teapot under the spout and made great tea, I hate using a teabag in a cup so I am happy! All my coffee mugs are the right size for the amount of water dispensed with room for milk. Instant cup of coffee for guests, no problem !… Read Full Review

Although not had long enough to rate durability or service and support, this kettle is performing extremely well on setting up.
One complaint there is no manual supplied to explain how to descale the unit or other maintenance tasks.
Only drawback is now I make too many cups of tea now it is so easy… Read Full Review

I've only just got mine and love it....yes, the noise was a surprise even after reading reviews-I thought people were exaggerating !!! They're not....and the power cord is way too short. I had to rearrange appliances to enable it to reach my socket on the wall.
It is a bit tricky to fill in my sink so I have a milkbottle at hand and use that instead. Mug size not an issue....regular mugs are fine....
It boils VERY fast-that's very impressive indeed.
I may have to retain my kettle for my… Read Full Review

Have had 2 within a year. First one leaked and top filler hatch stopped opening with button, also boiled 300ml of water instead of 250ml which it is supposed to. Second one all the same prob's but dose not leak. Dose not seem to be eco friendly when you are boiling 50ml of water to much every time… Read Full Review

OK if you are disabled and can not safely lift a kettle.
Otherwise a waste of money. It gives a fixed amount of hot water which is too much for a cup and too little for a mug.
£60 wasted , get a Tesco value kettle for under £4 Yes ! you will still need a kettle in addition to this!
Major improvement would be to put a button on it that stopped the flow when you wanted ! How hard can that be ?… Read Full Review

With the variable dispenser model, there seems to be a fault with the actual dispenser switch. It's plastic and even if it works for a day, I can tell you that it will soon stop working and get stuck! We've sent back three to Amazon who tell me they have now stopped stocking it. It's a shame because it's much better than the first model without the variable dispenser and the stop button. Come on, Breville, bring out another model with a metal switch!… Read Full Review
