Arriva trains are delayed frequently, always look like they need hoovering, and mess is never removed from seats or tables. At peak times there are not enough carriages and, I have seen from my standing position on a crowded train, all the three carriage trains that are full of seats going to less busy areas. Crowding is heavy on peak time trains. Arriva trains break down or struggle sometimes, and sometimes the doors to the exits from the inside do not open. I agree with the last reviewer, they really are terrible. Customer service is appaling, they never run enough trains/carriages at busy times, carriages are always left in a mess, the carriages just look really tired and worn out. And to top it off they are really expensive. If I could I would use Virgin trains at all times, but unfortunately for me Virgin only run the London to Holyhead route here in Wales, they should be doing all the routes in Wales, Arriva Trains are a bit of a joke. Whilst running a reasonably reliable service the franchise suffers from older rolling stock however this shouldn't affect the lack of cleanliness onboard, train staff do not appear to remove empty beer cans, coffe cups, bottles etc at journey turn rounds. If you look at Arriva Trains Wales website they display results of a recent on an online Q&A sessiion with their MD.
