“Not enough carriages”

Written on: 18/07/2013

Arriva trains tend to be reliable on the whole. I haven't experienced many cancellations, unlike Virgin trains (which tend to break down) or Midland Trains (which are often short of a driver)so this is an important point. I also like the train staff who are friendly and courteous on the whole. There is, however, one serious flaw in the service. There never seem to be enough carriages. This is particularly noticeable on Saturdays, when many people are travelling to visit friends, go… Read Full Review

“Pretty Poor Train Company”

Written on: 07/07/2013 by liamwelsh6 (2 reviews written)

I used to get an Arriva train to work every morning, but since the reliability of them and the cost, it was actually cheaper and more efficient for me to learn to drive. Despite the fact that i was paying #5 a day for a 15 minuet train journey, the quality of travel was also pretty poor. i would rarely get a seat on the weekday morning rush hour 2 carriage train, and if i did manage to find a seat, there are more worthy applicant on the train that i happily give my seat to. The train would… Read Full Review

You should know better than to comment about NR or it's clients, in this case ATW as you're in breach of contract. Read the staff handbook.
It isn't up to ATW to get new trains, that's down to the DFT and Welsh government.

“NOT BAD LITTLE SPRINTERS”

Written on: 18/06/2013 by johnwataboy (11 reviews written)

Not a bad little service from Gloucester to Cardiff. Much quicker and more comfortable than by National Express or stagecoach. Just a couple of pounds dearer makes it well worth it. Good scenery along the River Severn through Westbury on Severn and onto Chepstow. Next stop Newport and Cardiff. A great ride… Read Full Review

“Poor & Inadequate Service”

Written on: 18/03/2013

Several weeks ago I booked Arriva return train tickets from Colwyn Bay, North Wales to Cardiff Central. Outgoing at 1.30 pm Friday 15th March 2013; return Sunday 17th March. My husband is disabled and in order to minimise difficulties I organised advance bookings with reserved seats. The 2 carriage train was 27 minutes late arriving at Colwyn Bay and it was nearly impossible to access the doorway due to the number of passengers standing with luggage in the foyer and in the central aisles. Numerous… Read Full Review

“SHOCKING”

Written on: 14/11/2012 by LeeRoy65 (1 review written)

I would like to share a small section of a complain I recently sent to Arriva Trains Wales. I am still waiting for a response. A friend also complained over 2 weeks a go and still hasn't heard anything. I said; 'The service that you provide is both dismal and appalling, and the fact that you can justify charging such extortionate prices for that service is a feat only surpassed by the woefully inadequate communication skills of your incompetent and under trained staff. I am seriously… Read Full Review

“On a Sunday we have the Arriva Trains Wales services,...”

Written on: 22/08/2012

On a Sunday we have the Arriva Trains Wales services, much to the dislike of me and many other passengers I bump into. Went to Wolverhampton to buy a pair of new trainers and went by train, and once again the train itself was very run down and tacky. It also goes alot slower then the London Midland ones on a Mon-Sat situation, and the conductor was also very money grabbing and done nothing to assist anyone on the train, unlike the London Midland staff, who appear very well looked after. The… Read Full Review

“Trolley Catering Service”

Written on: 28/04/2012

Everything on the Trolley Catering Service seems to be index linked to Zimbabwe's inflation rate. The prices are ludicrously inflated. If I was you I would bring your own supplies of food and drink and when the trolley arrives, get them out and wave them to the "Trolley Dolly" and laugh at them as I now do. You'll get no commission out of be you robbing Bar Steward… Read Full Review

“Very Rude”

Written on: 23/07/2011 by mexus1 (1 review written)

I was appalled with the rude and intimidating attitude by the conductor (Michelle) on my courney from Chepstow to Cardiff Central Station. I had bought my child return ticket at the station. During the ticket inspection and asked to see my ticket. As i am near 16 I was expecting that it was possible that I would be questioned about my age and had brought a photo copy of my passport with me. She asked me my date of birth and I told her; she then proceeded to tell me that I was lying and that I… Read Full Review

Written on: 13/08/2010

I have the unfortunate pleasure of having to use Newport Railway Station 5 days a week to commute to work and have to say that on average i am late 4 days a week due to delayed trains. The staff are very rude and have a real bad attitude towards passengers. I have written a few letters of complaint regarding the staff but never get a good response. I was at Newport Railway station about a week ago and picked up a leaflet promoting www.arrivatrainsnails.co.uk which is a site dedicated to shaming… Read Full Review

“Arriva trains are delayed frequently, always look like...”

Written on: 25/05/2010

Arriva trains are delayed frequently, always look like they need hoovering, and mess is never removed from seats or tables. At peak times there are not enough carriages and, I have seen from my standing position on a crowded train, all the three carriage trains that are full of seats going to less busy areas. Crowding is heavy on peak time trains. Arriva trains break down or struggle sometimes, and sometimes the doors to the exits from the inside do not open. Conductors rarely stamp tickets so… Read Full Review

Written on: 05/03/2010

I agree with the last reviewer, they really are terrible. Customer service is appaling, they never run enough trains/carriages at busy times, carriages are always left in a mess, the carriages just look really tired and worn out. And to top it off they are really expensive. If I could I would use Virgin trains at all times, but unfortunately for me Virgin only run the London to Holyhead route here in Wales, they should be doing all the routes in Wales, Arriva Trains are a bit of a joke. Not… Read Full Review

Written on: 07/02/2009 by glodekka (2 reviews written)

Whilst running a reasonably reliable service the franchise suffers from older rolling stock however this shouldn't affect the lack of cleanliness onboard, train staff do not appear to remove empty beer cans, coffe cups, bottles etc at journey turn rounds. If you look at Arriva Trains Wales website they display results of a recent on an online Q&A sessiion with their MD. A lot of his answers to complaints revolve around the lack of money available to the Arriva franchise compared with Virgin's… Read Full Review
