“The decline of booking.com”

I've been a long time user of booking.com, probably booked more than 100 bookings through them within the 7-8 years I've been with them. Lately user experience is decreasing. They're really pushing it too hard with all those urgency and "trust" elements on the site. To top it off they recently started hiding the possibility to sort by reviews in order to show their "top picks" first, which just means the hotel is paying more to them to be shown first. “Price guarantee ”

I booked three non-smoking rooms through Booking.com, when we arrived only 1 of the bedrooms was non smoking. When we tried to get moved to non-smoking rooms we were told they didn't have any available rooms at which time I called Booking.com. The agent was very helpful at that time and after confirming with the hotel front desk that they wouldn't be able to move us to the non-smoking rooms we had reserved, the agent said we had been authorized to go to a different hotel. I booked an apartment through booking.com which had free cancellation. I cancelled the booking within the timescales but did not receive a refund. I took 2 months to get a refund and 5 different Booking.com agents who didn't speak to each other. “cancelled and no refund”

We made a reservation, then tried to get a refund because of a medical emergency. They were supposed to be trying to refund my money, then cancelled the reservation and did not refund my money. I spent 2 hours on the phone and spoke to five different people. I was not even able to let a family member use the room since they cancelled it. Worst Experience Ever!! We made a reservation through Booking.com where we read that no money need at this time just reserve the room. Later on that day money was taken out for the room 4 months in advance!!  They are based in Japan. Not in the US. Their operators don't speak English very well would not let us talk to supervisor. I found a deal on Groupon for a Las Vegas hotel which routed me to booking.com. I went through the steps and completed my booking only to receive a confirmation email that specified my hotel stay does not include any of the offers that the deal originally said it included. The deal was to include breakfast, located on the strip, free cancellation, and pay at the time of arrival. We booked Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan, NYC for three nights. When we checked in we discovered there was no heating in the hotel. We traveled with 2 kids and with 9C outside it was freezing in the hotel room. We called Booking.com and were told that they are not responsible for the conditions in the hotel. Stayed at the Royal Arena Spa Gumbet 10 nights wonderful value for money . The staff were the most professional and friendly you could wish for. Our first room we were not happy with no view no problem we were moved. One of the cleanest hotels we have stayed in. I have used Booking.com a few times before and all went well. This year I was arranging a 50th Birthday trip for a part of 8 of us. In advance I booked rooms for all of us at a few hotels, as it was Easter and I wanted to make sure we had options to look at and decide. My family and I booked a hotel in Florence as part of out 3 week trip to Europe. We were notified by Booking.com that the hotel was unable to accommodate us. We had made this reservation almost 4 months prior. This came as a shock but the biggest shock was the complete lack of assistance and care that Booking.com provided. Three days later, and several expensive phone calls (and waste of my life because they leave you waiting on the phone for at least twenty minutes if you get through and they don't answer emails) the hotel didn't call me back and Booking.com didn't help or care.
