“Booked wrong hotel - ended up costing a fortune!”

We have sent four emails between the two of us and have made two phone calls in order to try to sort out compensation. We did not receive the confirmation email with the address of the hotel - despite being called liars by Booking.com - therefore, arrived in Milan in the early hours of the morning (two young women) at a hotel who had no reservation under our names, had no choice but to stay at the hotel, costing us €109 for one night. My booking number for the whole holiday is - 3198727.

It has apparently been looked into by your colleague. He has repeatedly sent the same email, saying the hotel vouchers were sent. We did not receive these vouchers so he is essentially calling me a liar. I have informed him that he will be receiving a letter from my solicitor if the matter isn't resolved.

“Didn't acknowledge cancellation”

I booked a room and when plans changed cancelled it and booked a different one. Of course they got the new booking, but didn't alert the hotel of the cancellation and I was charged for it. Bookings.com said the problem was between us and the hotel and they would not help. So, we are out $100. “booking cancelled without notification”

Booked BM Hostel on 17 June but when we arrived at about 5pm, we discovered that the hostel did not keep our reservation. We were told that we did not pay 50% of the room price so the booking is not confirmed. When is it a policy of booking.com to pay before arrival? The credit card number is given to confirm the booking so that should be enough, right? I'm sorry to hear about this. In some situations, a hotel may need a deposit in order to hold your reservation. You can find this deposit listed under the "Conditions" column by hovering your mouse over the blue question mark and you can also find it in your confirmation email after booking a reservation under the "Room Details" section. “Beware of HIDDEN FEES and COSTS!!”

Booking.com touts "FREE cancellation on most rooms" when, in fact, their business model for some hotels is to offer each room at two rates -- one rate is apparently the non-cancellation price, and the other is the price you pay in order to have this right of "FREE cancellation". You are correct, many hotels offer a free cancellation rate and a non-refundable or special conditions rate. The policies are available to view prior to booking in the conditions column. Booking.com customer service will approach the hotel on your behalf to determine if an exception can be made to a policy but it cannot be guaranteed as it is up to the hotel's discretion. “Wrong prices uploaded”

Booked a hotel "value deal" with booking.com. 24 hours later I received an email stating that it was 10 times more than the price booked at and there was an obvious error in loading price. It wasn't an obvious error as it was stated a "value deal" which I thought that was what I was getting. “The best !!”

Out of way of small town and half hour walk uphill but picked up at port. The most lovely little studio tastefully furnished and roomy, full equipped dining area and big terrace with views over Stromboli (can glimpse the volcanic outbursts at night) and Lipari and coast. We had to pay for bed linen (6 euros) and towels if you need them. We have travelled a lot and this is a 'gem' if you have time to spare in the Aeolian Islands. Just be fit and ready to walk. “Villaggio Camping NightaMare”

We left Villaggio Camping Miramare in Livorno, Italy with the worst travel experience ever. In addition to numerous health conditons, there were bedbugs and I became infected by them, had to go to the hospital, get on antibiotics and antihistamines. ... except that booking.com does not always post the negative reviews that guests create. there are many examples of that in the reviews on this site.

also, people cannot post reviews if they find that their bookings were cancelled upon arrival. this means that guests cannot be forewarned about shady overbooking situations.

so i would give the opposite advice - IGNORE the reviews on booking.com and check out the reviews on many other reputable review sites.

I recently booked this hotel 6/2/14 and stayed there one of the two nights that I had reserved. My family and I have frequently stayed at what we would term mom and pop type motels and have never had a bad experience until now. I used Booking.com for the first time. I was hesitant due to it being on-line and not actually with the resort. But, the price was cheaper than what the resort was offering. Hotels that choose to advertise on Booking.com set the rate/policy of the rooms that are advertised, as well as determining if the cost will include tax/vat and other fees. These details are provided to guests prior to booking in the "conditions" column, with additional details provided if your cursor is held over the blue "?." All costs associated with a booking are again provided to guests after booking, on the email confirmation.

While Booking.com requires a valid credit card to make a booking, unless clearly indicated prior to booking, Booking.com does not charge guests (a booking fee or process payment). Because of this, all refunds are at the sole discretion of the hotel. However, when there is a dispute between the hotel and the guest, Booking.com will assist in finding a resolution. “Automatically resets date but not details”

Having searched for a last minute booking earlier in the day, we returned to this site and then booked. The website did a reset to the tomorrows date but not reset the location etc so it wasn't clear it does a partial reset. We booked and yes partially our fault for not rechecking all the details, but we were slightly tired the reset was not obvious as the location was still the same we did not expect it to reset the date.
