“Total failure - Booking.com just abandonded us”

We booked Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan, NYC for three nights. When we checked in we discovered there was no heating in the hotel. We traveled with 2 kids and with 9C outside it was freezing in the hotel room. We called Booking.com and were told that they are not responsible for the conditions in the hotel. Mind you, the hotel description clearly states "heating". And, no, we could not get out of the hotel without paying a cancellation fee. Stayed at the Royal Arena Spa Gumbet 10 nights wonderful value for money . The staff were the most professional and friendly you could wish for. Our first room we were not happy with no view no problem we were moved. One of the cleanest hotels we have stayed in. The view from the terrace is unbelievable .Outside the entrance the dolmas stops every 10 minutes also taxi rank. The only comment I would make the food could improve in variety not quantity. I have used Booking.com a few times before and all went well. This year I was arranging a 50th Birthday trip for a part of 8 of us. In advance I booked rooms for all of us at a few hotels, as it was Easter and I wanted to make sure we had options to look at and decide. All of the bookings were cancellable with no charges before a specified date. We choose the hotel and I went online and cancelled the others. My family and I booked a hotel in Florence as part of out 3 week trip to Europe. We were notified by Booking.com that the hotel was unable to accommodate us. We had made this reservation almost 4 months prior. This came as a shock but the biggest shock was the complete lack of assistance and care that Booking.com provided. Always do my own hotels in Spain usually just me and my son and I need two beds so booked a standards room. Three days later, and several expensive phone calls (and waste of my life because they leave you waiting on the phone for at least twenty minutes if you get through and they don't answer emails) the hotel didn't call me back and Booking.com didn't help or care. That is after three days of calling them. “Beware cancellations”

Booking.com has a policy with some hotels where you may be charged the full price of your stay if you cancel. But, Booking.com also recommends (during cancellation) that you contact the property if you want to waive the cancellation fee (even though Booking.com has a policy where they mention I will be charged by them if I cancel). Booking.com is fooling people, they give us guaranteed bookings and when we reached hotel they say reservation is not received or non-guaranteed. I rather book straight from hotel. I have had three similar bad experience and decided to book directory through hotel. Sometime we cannon trust third party online booking engines like Booking.com or others. My hubby & I looked forward to a fun anniversary weekend here but first, received the wrong room, next the pool and pool lounge was closed(but we were invited to use the pool facility at there sister hotel--two blocks away!) last, the 2nd night of are stay, the elevator stop working!! We made a reservation for a three night stay, Villa Suite, at the Inn Spot on the Bay, Hampton Bays, NY, 7/3-/7/6/16, $920.95 confirmed, guaranteed rate paid by credit card. After staying at this b&b the owners kept texting me a lot and bullying me, as they did not want or like my first review!! The hosts were most friendly and enthusiastic young couple who love opening their home. The room was very clean, safe and homely. Didn't have any issues with insects. It felt like staying in a relatives home. The home cook was very authentic and plenty on the plate. The hosts were very friendly, very good Eglish speaking and provided much details about the local attractions; putting safety above all.
