“Great for Bargains”

Written on: 07/12/2012

Great store if you want to buy numerous items at the best prices going. You just need to know how to shop there. Firstly decide what it is you want to buy. Check it is in stock at your nearest store (reserve and collect feature is useful for this but not always 100% accurate). Check the prices online to compare prices of exact same item(s) with exact required size, colour and specifications that are in stock in other stores and cheaper (after you have considered the £5 card and transport… Read Full Review

“Price guarantee lie.”

Written on: 03/12/2012 by markl139 (1 review written)

Go Outdoors claim to operate a price guarantee scheme, but when I tried to execute this on a Craghoppers coat, sold by Craghoppers at £131 and by Go Outdoors at £139. Go Outdoors lied that Craghoppers were out of stock, so declined to supply at the lower price less 10%. This is just dishonest. … Read Full Review

“Dubious trading practise”

Written on: 30/11/2012

I went to buy a cheap beanie type hat in the Colchesster store (just something cheap for running - I would have no need to buy anything else there in future). Found one I thought was cheap enough (£2.95). Went to check out & told £16+ but I think she said something like £6 if I pay £5 odd for a year's discount card! No way. The check out assistant said I should have been told about the card when I entered the shop - I was not (just "good afternoon"). I queried the price without the discount… Read Full Review

“A case for Trading Standards to intervene”

Written on: 16/11/2012 by DJK-SMK (1 review written)

What is all this discount card rubbish. I found a pair of Salomon Quest walking boots on their web site, 10% off at £139.50 was offered. I selected for home delivery. Thought I ought to have some socks to go with them, not available for home delivery. Off to the Basingstoke store then, tried on a pair of Salomon Quest walking boots (great boots by the way) asked the salesman the price, £139.50 I was told, selected 3 pairs of socks and went to the till. Again I asked the price of the boots… Read Full Review

I agree about trading standards looking at this and other similar stores which have continual "discounts" from a fictional RRP. Who cares what the RRP is if goods are never sold at it?

In reality, their £5 "Discount Card" is anything but, it's just a way for them to make more cash whilst giving nothing more in return that any store provides.

“Prices on display are wrong”

Written on: 15/11/2012 by cregcooil (1 review written)

Went to buy a Swiss Army knife, shelf price was £25, there were no other notices. Went to the till was charged £30 because I didn't have a membership card. Nowhere in the store is there a notice saying prices on the shelves are for members only. I think this is classic 'misselling' and have advised the OFT. Yes, I know I could have joined their little scheme for £5 and been no worse off but I refused on principle… Read Full Review

Everything inthe store has twwo prices on it. Everything! on the items that are on pegs I agree that the rrp is small, i think a combination between limited space on pegs and bad signage layout is to blame. But all things have two prices on it, plus around the store there is signage about the discount card everywhere. Behind the tills in most stores there is a sign about 3.5ft by 8ft telling you about the card.

“Leaking waterproof boots”

Written on: 15/10/2012

I will not be using this store ever again. All my wife wanted was a waterproof boot. The first pair of boots leaked because the sole of one of the boots had a split in it. We could not find the receipt and when we did take the boot back on our next visit we descover we had purchased it over a year ago and was told there was nothing they could do. So we bought a pair of Scarpa Ladies boots with gortex, the first time they were used in wet conditions the right boot leaked at the top front of the… Read Full Review

I have complained to Go Outdoors, they told me that the manager would contact me. When he did he seemed to not have read my origonal complaint. when I retold him the story he did not get back to me. So no action to my complaint not even a reply. When you purchase an item it is from a retailer and you have statutory rights, my rights have been ignored by Go Outdoors if you think they are not to blame then you can do business with them, but I will not in the future. Its a free country.

They sent the boots off to the manufacturer and they wernt faulty. Take a look at the tests they do on your boots to see if they leaked.

300,000 step test? Pretty thorough.
plus with gore-tex you get a lifetime guarentee for the finished product that has the gore-tex label on it. Yes they shouldnt leak, but they were obveously tested and proved fine.

WIth regards to the first pair, what would you have them do, it was outside your warranty with go outdoors and the manufacturer. They have no legal or moral responsibilty to sort it for you, the lifetme guarentee of goretex is seperate and is not to do with the retail store after the first year. If you want to you can call Gore Tex themselves and they will look at them. Just to let you know Go Outdoors use a company called LSR (Lanchasire Sports Repair) to test and repair products with manufacturer faults. The reason why they do this is so that the test is impartial. IF found faulty it is repaired or replaced and go outdoors get the cost back from the manufacturer . If it is not faulty Go Outdoors have to cover the cost of sendng it off so it is in their interest for it to be faulty. They have done nothing wrong and I think that what you want them to do is unreasonable.

“Blackburn store very helpful”

Called at go outdoors, Blackburn for the first time to buy a couple of OR hats and some trousers. Staff were very friendly without being the least bit pushy and we came out praising the pleasantness of the staff. Our son bought some paramo coats here some 10 months ago and he also praised the helpfulness of the staff. “Go out and get a stock control system”

Written on: 04/09/2012

Your chances of taking advantage of any of the special offers are pretty low because Reserve and Collect doesn't work. The stock situation is claimed to be as at the close of business the previous day (bad enough in itself) but, in fact, it is even less frequently updated than that. I gave up in the end, since every store that showed the item as available was actually out of stock - although GO say thay'll contact me to discuss alternatives. Bait and switch?… Read Full Review

“Leaking Mojave tent”

Written on: 30/08/2012

Never had a complaint or concern regarding prices from Go Outdoors and having sold our caravan bought a full set of camping equipment including a Hi Gear Mojave 5 berth tent July 2011. We used the tent several times last summer in dry weather. This August Bank holiday we went away in the tent and during the first few hours of rainfall the tent leaked water, not through the seams where I would kind of expect, but through the whole fabric of the tent. “Never had an issue with Go Outdoors (Swindon)”

From reading a lot of the other reviews I feel very lucky with my Go Outdoors store. I have no problem paying £5 for a card. I have used the the price match a couple of times and saved quite a bit of cash. These savings alone have more than covered the cost of the card. Why buy a card? Seriously - what other retailer charges customers an annual fee so they can get their 'best prices' ... if Asda started charging so you could slap your rear as you walked out the store for an 'Asda Price' how many millions of customers would they loose?

Seriously you don't need to spend £5 a year - whats funny now is you don't need a card to buy online with them, so your being double done - double pricing from a double standards retailer ... WAKE UP THE GREAT BRITISH PUBLIC - Wake up!

“Loyalty card”

Written on: 05/08/2012

I have used the Wakefield store store on a number of occasions. The last 3 times (all in the same year) I have been told that my loyalty card has expired & I need to purchase another one. It was fortunate I had kept the proof of purchase for my card otherwise they would have charged me again. Sorry to hear that you had problems with your discount card. Did you speak to a store manager at the time you had the issue as they would quite easily be able to sort this out for you, especially if you had proof that you had renewed within the last 12 months. Please be assured that this seems to be an isolated issue and I am sure that the Wakefield team would only be too happy to resolve it for you.

The card will not have an expiry date printed on them because the date you renew your card the following year might change for example you brought a card 3/3/2012 the following year you come to the store 4/3/2013 you renew your card again so the date the card expires the following year will be 4/3/2014.

However, if you think your card has expired never say can i have a new card . because two cards registered to one address will confuse the system and wipe your details off and therefore each time you come into the store it will say card expired. Always always renew the same card.

“Failed to mention loyalty card”

I decided to cycle over and save the postage which was about £4.50. I've not been before and the shop and it's range of items was impressive. Sorry to hear of the issues and confusion that you have had with regards to the discount card. The discount card is a fantastic way to save money on the RRP, sometimes upto 70%, but at least 10% depending on the product. It is something that we actively promote in store and is certainly not something that we try to hide. Our staff are actually trained and tested to mention the discount card to each customer that they come into contact with, which in this case, seems to have been the problem both when you phoned the store and when you arrived in store. Hopefully, it hasn't put you off visiting us in the future.
