I've been getting more and more sensitive to hair dyes over the years where I was trying the ammonia free ones with little success of covering greys and/or the colour lasting more than two weeks. Besides the last one I used I broke out in a rash all down the sides of my face, I could hardly breath so badly I had to take my inhaler and rinse it off earlier than I should have. It's been since May since I dyed my hair so my roots had grown out about 3 inches. After much searching on the internet… Read Full Review

I read a few reviews here about allergic reactions to Sanotint hair color and I would like to write my story too. A year and a half ago I tried Sanotint hair color for the first time and had a reaction. I called the distributor in the United States even though I did not purchase from them. The lady told me that there is 2 Sanotint hair colors - Light and Classic, and only the Light one does not contain PPD, so I gave it a try again and it sure enough worked! Now I order it from US distributor -… Read Full Review

Hi. With regular hair dyes my hairline gets itchy and my skin gets flaky and my ears swell a little. Sometimes it can takes weeks to die down. I have been colouring my hair for years with no problem and this problem only started in the past 6 or 7 months. Any time in the past when I have done a patch test on my arm there has been no reaction but does affect my head?! I bought Sanotint light as it is meant to be safe. Did a little test on my left temple on Saturday. It has now been just… Read Full Review

I haven't tried Sanotint as I also have severe allergies and the reviews here put me off trying it. I know how annoying it is not to be able to dye your grey hair, so i ve searched and tried lots of brands and have settled on Lagona. Do not use Lagona creme colour, but just the regular veg-dye if you are very allergic like I am. Always do the patch test just in case!!! But I ve been very happy about this product. Unfortunately the colour will never be what chemical dyes can give you, but at… Read Full Review

I had a severe reaction to hair dye containing PPD 2 years ago, therefore researced to find a safe product. Sanotint light is advertised as a PPD free and ammonia free product therefore I felt confident in purchasing and using the product. Completed the patch test which after 24 hours seemed ok but 24 hours after using the product on my hair ended up in Accident and Emergency Department of local hospital with severe reation needing massive amount of steroids and antihystermine drugs, feeling… Read Full Review

SanoTint Light totally saved me. I thought I would have to "show off" my gray hair because I am allergic to PPD. I am so happy not to have allergic reaction on SanoTint light.
Yes, I would recommend it to a friend. Just make sure to do a patch test!
Value for the money is fair, especially due to the fact that essentialoilcollection.com always has promotions, this time I got free shipping with code SHIP6.
Normally one box is good for two hair colors. My hair is short.
I hope my review is helpful!… Read Full Review

I tried Sanotint Light because I am severely allergic to PPD and was encouraged by the reviews of others who have used it successfully. However, I had a severe reactionto the patch test, and my dermatologist said that it contains toulene-diamine sulfate, which is a derivative of PPD. So please patch test!I'm so bummed that I'm not able to use this!… Read Full Review

I too suddenly had a allergic reaction to a salon dye which left me with itchy hives. I went for medical patch testing and found that i am allergic to ammonium and formaldehyde (found in almost everything!). I have been using sanotint for a year now and so far so good. I buy the light brown. It covers 40% grey well but looks dark initially. However, it does fade to a nice light brown after a couple of weeks. Incidentally, i have tried no end of so called natural shampoos etc. The only shampoo… Read Full Review

Sanotint Light Hair Dye - Colour Light Brown #74- After reading all the reviews on here I decided to buy a box. I have to honestly say it sat around for two weeks as I was very scared to try it. I did do the 48 hour patch test and would recommend everyone to do so. I just dyed my hair tonight no allergies, rashes or bad smell. I totally love it however I think a full review of how long it lasts is important. I'll be back with an update in a few weeks and hopefully not a few days.
Here's a blog… Read Full Review

I am not able to use commercial hair dyes due to the PPD. Have used Sanotint Light 2 x never had a reaction. The last time I used this product 2 weeks ago- to cover up highlights washed out in 2 shampoos. Called the company it was suggested that I was my hair the same day and towel dry prior to dying- and leave on for 45 min contrary to what the instructions were in the box. Gonna try one more time used boxes last time. Id does however leave your hair in excellent condition after. I was assured… Read Full Review

I am allergic to PPD and starting to show signs of going grey so thought I'd give this a try. I did the skin test and came out with a severe rash so didn't use it on my hair! Very disapointed as the website seems to promote it as being natural and therefore very safe, whereas a quick look at the ingredients shows it contains hydrogen peroxide etc. It's also rather pricey (£12 or so including postage). I'd strongly advise anyone who buys it to do a skin test first… Read Full Review

I became allergic to PPD back in October 2009 - so when I saw Sanotint Light - PPD free hair dye, I couldnt wait to try it out. I almost didnt carry out a patch test, but thank goodness I did as within 2 hours I had a severe allergic reaction to it. When I showed my dermatologist the list of ingredients, she immediately picked out Resorcinal and Toluene-2, 5-Diamine Sulfate, p-Aminophenol and Diaminotouluene and told me these all contained the exact same chemical of PPD. Since this episode, I… Read Full Review

I have just got sanotint light because I have severe allergies to hair dye. Unfortunately I have done a patch test and have reacted badly (glad it was just a patch test). Therefore be wary of using this if you suffer from allergies although I appreciate it does work for some people. Always do a patch test first… Read Full Review

Suddenly had a very bad reaction to hair dyes. My scalp was itchy with hives and swollen glands which lasted for ages. Drs couldn't help either. I then read about Body art quality henna and applied it. I mixed 50% henna with 40% indigo and 10% cassia to get a cooler brown colour. It healed my head (it is known for that) and gave me lovely shiny hair. However, some red still poked through which i didn't like. I cautiously applied Sanotint light hair colour in light brown and waited...6 weeks… Read Full Review

Just got back from salon. I have terrible allergy to ppd and after the last visit to salon using a product that has only minimal ppd had a very bad reaction. Researched Sanotint light and took a chance. I ordered several colors, printed out the color chart and went to my hair dresser. She used the extra light golden blonde and i was very happy with the results. So far, no scalp flare up. If this works, I will be forever grateful to Sanotint because I am not ready to go grey… Read Full Review

I have coloured my hair for years but after using a DIY high street brand that nearly made me pass out from the smell of ammonia I decided to research alternative chemical free dyes. I came across Sanotint. The Classic range is ammonia free and the Light range is also p-Phenylenediamine free.
I highly recommend this product. Its easy to apply, non-drip & economical as I only used half the packet on first application (I have shoulder length hair) which is great as can do root touch up at… Read Full Review
