“Damaged bike. Delayed refund. Shambolic”

Despite Evans cycles wide range of bikes their ability to build up bikes is poor. I returned the first bike and asked for an exchange. The replacement bike was in worse condition than the first. The first bike had scratches and gears that were jamming. The second bike had deep scratches and other issues. Yes they agreed to refund, but I am still waiting over a week later. “Velodrome bike service”

Dear Sir, I just had to write to say how pleased I am with your shop at the velodrome. I booked an aged cycle in for a gold service, (20% discount) but was contacted two days later to say it only needed a bronze service.I mentioned to the engineer some of the bikes faults but he assured me everything would be fine. “Lots of problems! 6 days to deliver bike on 'next-day'!”

I paid £34.99 for Saturday delivery, waited in all day and the bike never came. Bike still didn't come the following Monday, or Tuesday. Wednesday they attempted to deliver during the day while I'm at work (which is why I paid for Saturday delivery in the first place). When I finished work I managed to call the driver and plead with him to drop it off at work, he resisted saying he wanted to 'go home'. Eventually he delivered the bike to my work. I would like to compliment evanscycles on the attentive, informative and polite service I received while buying my new bike. A special thank you to Al at the Brentford store, who spent over an hour assisting me with my purchase. I was able to test ride my bike multiple times, while Al made crucial adjustments to the stem and seat positioning. I am positive I came out with the best set up at the best price. It's the second time we've bought our son a birthday bike in Evans - this time in the Crouch End branch. We looked at a few places in North London, but nowhere else could match the range & prices. Only here did our son really light up with enthusiasm for a particular model. Staff very helpful - gave lots of time to us despite our low price range & dithering, on a Saturday (not the quietest time). Your staff that delt with me was fantastic from the moment i went to your shop at the NCC centre in Manchester very helpfull and give me the best advice and took time to show me which bike would be best for my needs. also when i bought the bike they priced matched it and when it was reduced again 2 days after i bought it they also gave me a refund to match the new price. “Incorrect items sent and ridiculous delays.”

I ordered a black cycling jacket from Evans (in the sale and great value) a few days later it arrived but they had sent the wrong colour. I rang 'customer services' who said I'd have to fill out a on-line returns form, they would then send through a reply label and I could send it back for an exchange - why does it need to be this complicated? I had the pleasure of being looked after by Fiona at the Gatwick showroom. I was buying an entry level MTB. She was not only very knowledgable, but she listened to what I needed and advised accordingly. I have walked away with a bike that I am very very happy with. “Brompton Bike upgrade to a higher gear”

I arrived at the Holborn shop on Saturday afternoon. I supplied the upgraded chain set and within 30 minutes or so it was fitted, along with a new chain and rear gear wheel, tyres at the correct pressure and ready for my cycle back to Lewisham. “Incompetant technicians. Company is all smoke and mirrors”

Evans cycles are very nice people who endeavour to please their customers - HOWEVER, they are all smoke and mirrors. It is impossible to receive a bike without some sort of damage. Four bikes I've had in total, three ofhem being replacement bikes due to damage. The fourth bike I've received was set up so poorly that the chain immediately slipped off the chainrings and damaged paintwork. I am supposed to have a six week service and saftey check, I will not allow them to work on my bike again… Read Full Review

“Excellent, consistent service”

I would like to report the excellent service I encountered recently at the Nottingham, Maid Marion Way store. My mountain bike was booked in for a full frame bearing replacement service on a 2005 Specialized Stumpjumper. The mechanic phoned me directly when the work was completed and talked me through the work he'd done. He had quite a challenge as the main pivot bearings were siezed to the bearings but he succeded!
