There is a GREAT # A shop/ outlet for bikes and accessories. Filled with lots of choices and variety of choice from mountain bikes and BMX and hybrid bikes.. Fantastic shop. Great staff who are always on the go to help and offer their expert advise. I would definitely advise people to go there and see what is available and see what's on offer. “Really amazing biking experience”

Written on: 28/09/2014 by jedi.keybo (1 review written)

My experience was with the Edinburgh store. They treated me like a good friend the whole way through and really went out of their way to help me wherever they could. I am really happy with my high spec pinnacle cyclocross! All of the brand name bikes were simply not as good for the money. Super stoked with my purchase! Big thanks to Dasha and Grace!… Read Full Review

“Excellent customer service from an enthusiastic sales...”

Written on: 21/09/2014 by SalvatoreKane (1 review written)

I was thoroughly impressed and pleased with the level of service from the staff in your Plymouth store. I popped in to try on a pair of road cycling shoes as I had heard the sizing of Shimano shoes can be a bit wayward, and a proper fitting was essential. I was buying a pair of shoes, which in the grand scheme of things is a relatively cheap item when compared with the hardware on offer in the store. Yet, I was made to feel like the most important customer in the store at that moment. Every… Read Full Review

“Top class service”

Written on: 14/09/2014 by rhoida (1 review written)

I popped into the Edinburgh branch of Evan's cycles last week to ask about a "squeak"in my bike. I was just popping in and didn't expect a definitive diagnosis; just some suggestions about what I could investigate myself or whether they thought it was more serious and I would need to get the bike serviced. The assistant was fantastic. Efficient, genuine, keen to find an answer within the limits of time constraint and not pulling the bike apart. He greased a few things and checked out a few… Read Full Review

“Very helpful and a holiday saviour”

Written on: 09/09/2014 by chris.quartly (2 reviews written)

I'm doing lejog trip with peak tours. Half a mile coming into Kendal in the Lake District my rear derailleur selector broke and came loose making the derailleur select top gear not good for all those hills. Cycling through Kendal I spotted an Evans bike shop. It was Sunday but it was open. I explained to the assistant my problem. He immediately took it into the workshop fixed the problem within 5 minutes and I was on my way. The selector has been performing no problem ever since. That's what… Read Full Review

“No customer service and unreliable”

Written on: 04/09/2014

I booked my bike for a next day silver service 2 weeks in advance as I wanted to make sure that I would be able to have somebody to pick up my child from nursery on the day I needed to pick up the bike. On the Monday when I went to drop of my bike (8.15am) I was initially told that no booking had been made and made to go through the same long process to re-book after 15 minutes my booking was finally found. No apologies for their mess up. In the evening I get a call from the workshop to tell me… Read Full Review

I would suggest you comment on the store and score the service that you have had similarly i.e. 1 .
This affects, what is known as the NPS for the store - the quality of customer service given.
If you go to the website you will see a tag that comes up on the right hand side saying feedback - click on it and fill it out.

Sadly, it's likely to be ignored or explained away, this tends to be a management thing. But there are many Evans Cycles employees that despite being poor treated really do want to give good service and will read your review and endeavour to improve the service they try and give.

“Good but slow”

Written on: 17/08/2014 by Mansell93 (1 review written)

I find Evans overall very good. They are competitive on lots of items and are good when you wish to return things. My only gripe is that delivery is always slow (usually 4 days). I recently order several components for my road bike from various outlets and Evans was by far the slowest to deliver. Merlin & Chain Reaction both tried to deliver Monday morning having ordered Saturday night. Evans delivered on Thursday… Read Full Review

“Genuine interest understanding and service”

Written on: 14/08/2014

I was undecided as to upgrading my existing bike or purchase a new one . I cycle about 30 miles over Lancashire hills in Lancashire weather ! Usually 5 days a week . I am 50 and have been cycling again for about 2 years . I bought my bike as a starter bike and I was starting to run out of gears as I have got more into it . However my bike is very comfortable and suits the terrain and pot holes !. I went to an independent who seemed to busy to be be bothered and the other big chain store who… Read Full Review

“Profit before service”

Written on: 09/08/2014 by moore72 (2 reviews written)

I only write a bad review if I have been well & truly messed around & in this case I have... I spotted a Norco sight carbon at a sale price & took the plunge & placed the order, 10 days later the bike arrived, as I started to put the bike together I noticed a scratch on the top tube & also marks on the frame near to the seat post, also the tyres were dirty & there was evidence of pedals being screwed in, I'm pretty sure I had been sent a ex demo bike, I wouldn't say it had been used on the… Read Full Review

There's no guarantee that sale bikes are new and could well have been sent back from a shop to HQ then shipped out again.

It is up to the shop to advise of damage but it's dependent on the shop.
Also, in an ideal world, it should have been checked before shipping, and if there was damage you should have been advised of it and whether you wished to continue with the purchase. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that you could've haggled a bit more off the bike so had a bike, with some imperfections, but a nice bike for a great price

However, this type of thinking just doesn't happen as standard and this comes down to poor training again.
You can't run a business on pot luck customer service although Evans Cycles is trying to..

“Fantastic customer service”

Written on: 07/08/2014

I bought my fuji finest from the Cheltenham branch back in April and had fantastic customer service, he was friendly and knowledgeable without being pushy.I have been back for my free service, where again they were very helpful. I had to go back for a small problem with my bike today and the same person who sold me my bike was there, asked how it was going and sorted out the problem quickly. What I really liked is that I got spoken to without being patronised (as a woman as happened in other… Read Full Review

“Excellent service from excellent staff ”

Written on: 06/08/2014 by ANDORRATRAVELSERVICE (2 reviews written)

A simple thank you to the Brighton Air Street shop and team for excellent info, service and advice through buying process. From first visit with a rough budget to test riding and taking a new bike away yesterday, all staff encountered were on the ball and knowledgeable about the products and about finding the right bike for me. The non commission system you have makes a customer very re-assured that the staff members are not motivated by price but by level and requirement. After some continued… Read Full Review

“Awful customer service”

Written on: 04/08/2014 by Savion204 (1 review written)

In the space of a month they have let me down big time. First of all a brand new £600 bike was missing a dust cap and the fool on the end of the phone told me that it was supposed to be like that. Today I have been let down as I was quoted 1-2 days for a click and collect service. Have now been told that the items won't be in until Wednesday meaning they won't be with me for a long training ride I had planned this week. Absolutely awful. Won't be using them again even for a brake cable… Read Full Review

Anybody with similar problems - no guarantees this will work as the communication between HQ and stores is awful but try...

Take the name of the person that you have spoken to in the contact centre, the time and date, then ring your local store and see whether they can swap in a part.
Take your receipt and bike, if you can - you might like to ask for the manager...
Some stores will swap in off another bike and then re-order the bit for the bike they have taken the bit off.

Click and collect is dependent on either a lorry delivery - most stores, outside London, only have one a week and couriers.
If you're in a hurry use it only if it's available in store there and then. You can check store stock on the website.
Otherwise order it online as anything over £20, except really big stuff, is free delivery so you're affected by nearly the same vagaries of postage as Evans Cycles is.

“New road bike broken after 2 days - "not our problem"”

Written on: 01/08/2014 by LaurenceT (1 review written)

Bought a Cannondale road bike from Fulham Branch. 2 days later, spoke breaks without warning or being put under undue stress. Wheel out of true. Spoke replaced by Evans but wheel still has a flat spot. Evans insist spoke breaking is my fault "I must have given it a real wack". There are no signs on the rim or elsewhere of hitting the kerb or another bike. I rode the bike for 180 miles on roads over the 2 days without any events to cause a spoke to break. Evans when pushed said they would… Read Full Review

Sadly, this is too late to do something about but for reference.

Assuming the bike was sold as new and not shop soiled.
Take your receipt and return it as it's not of merchantable quality and the wheel is not fit for purpose.
They have attempted repair but the bike is still not fit. They should either offer to change the wheel for a new one i.e. swap another from the same model in, or attempt to repair it again.

If the shop still refuses to sort this complain to HQ. If you do not receive a satisfactory outcome inform Trading Standards and, if necessary make a claim in the Small Claims Court and get your money back.

“Evans Cycles Clapham branch”

Written on: 29/07/2014

Have nothing but praise for the chaps in at this store; from bike servicing to customer care. Returned to the store with SPD pedals (purchased online) when I collected my bike from its service. They not only fitted the pedals & cleats to my shoes (purchased from a different branch) but also helped me try out my new set up& gave some pretty good top tips. They was both incredibly professional & helpful - even remembered the conversation had with my husband the previous week. All in all a very… Read Full Review

“Well done Sheffield store”

Written on: 25/07/2014 by CharlesO'Keefe (1 review written)

I’ve been to the Sheffield store today and it was an excellent shopping experience. The member of staff who looked after me was very helpful and I was not made to feel uncomfortable at any time. I was guided in my choice of helmet taking into account my budget, tried several on to make sure I found one that fitted me and the method of adjustment was explained to me. Then I needed help to choose a bike lock and again time was taken to show me the available options and how to use a lock to… Read Full Review

I have ordered a few things from them now. Delivery is always as you would expect. But recently had a problem with a new tyre getting a puncture quickly. Filled in the online customer comments, a response the same working day. Quickly rectified and replacement sent including replacement of the damaged inner tube. I better response than I hoped. “Preston Evans Cycle shop offer amazing customer service”

Written on: 23/07/2014 by Benson333 (1 review written)

I have been phoning around bike shops looking for the Bobbin Metrapole in mint green, this colour model has nearly sold out everywhere. A guy called Josh from a bike shop called me back yesterday to say they they had it in stock, they agreed to give me 2 hours to run to my local shop and test out the right size I need. I did so and called back the Preston store yesterday, and a guy called Josh picked up, he had no idea what I was talking about and said he would call me back? I was very annoyed… Read Full Review
