“What communication?”

Written on: 02/08/2011 by Matt82 (1 review written)

Having bought many things online in the last 10 years I have grown to expect a certain level of service and communication from the seller that reassures the buyer that everything is ok and your items, expensive or not will be delivered according to plan, this very consideration that many retailers see as the key to return custom is completely missing from Evanscycles online operation. I had no idea when my item was going to be delivered, in fact I was kept out of the loop, my bike was… Read Full Review

“The 90th Birthday Discount Con”

Written on: 24/07/2011 by hzv5wk (1 review written)

Visited the Gatwick showroom attached to the distribution warehouse after printing off a 90th birthday discount voucher for 15% off closthing and accessories. The store allows any item in stock at the warehouse to be collected, you just fill in the form and 5 mins later it appears. That is the theory. The collection counter is staffed by a bunch of teens who spend more time laughing and joking with each other than serving customers. Despite 4 staff standing there and only 1 serving, I was… Read Full Review

"about 1% of the stuff in store". Voucher said it applied to full priced items. Gloves and trousers showed no indication of a reductionin proced. The only price on them was the one I paid but because this was allegedly less than the RRP (how am I supposed to know whatthe RRP is) the voucher did not apply.

“Awaiting bike no idea what's going on”

Written on: 23/07/2011 by R Tate (5 reviews written)

really concerned having read these reviews as to what is happening with my bike. I sent an email query after five days as hadn't heard anything and got a standard email back saying delivery is 5-7 days after placing your order. Well no actually it isn't it's now 9 working days after. I emailed again at seven and got no reply called this morning as I received the accessories but no bike. Why bother? The bloke I spoke to queried whether it had been in stock when I ordered it. Yes it was otherwise… Read Full Review

Written on: 28/07/2011

Further to this I received a call late Saturday to advise from the first bloke I spoke to to say he would chase up with the despatch dept and make sure I received it if not Tuesday then Wednesday at the latest. He was meant to call me Monday afternoon to confirm. By Wednesday I had received neither call nor bike so I rang again. They'd look into it and call me back the same day - no phone call back yet again. Have just called again this morning and been advised that they have despatched the bottle cage - Not much use without the bike!!! The bike is with them and should be despatched today but apparently if I don't receive it within 2 days I should probably give them another call. I don't think so Harrison, you'll be getting another call this afternoon to confirm that it has been despatched and if not I want my money back!!!!

R Tate's Response to R Tate's Review

Written on: 22/08/2011

The day after speaking with Harrison I emailed the community manager for an update as yet again the calls centre staff don't have the information. He confirmed that the bike was being despatched that day and sent a £20 voucher by way of an apology. Finally the bike has arrived and I'm very happy with it but I would never order through Evans website again. Appalling service and they need to do something fast to change it.

“For more than one occasion I had to get a puncture in...”

Written on: 18/07/2011 by kamakarma (1 review written)

For more than one occasion I had to get a puncture in the rear tire done in London Victoria's shop. Both times, after the service, the nut on my rear tire wasn't tighten properly. This means the the actual tire changed position while I was cycling. The first time I tighten it myself, I wasn't really happy but didn't think about it too much. The second time the bike actually stopped in the middle of the road and a truck drove a foot far from me. I tried to tighten the nut but I couldn't because… Read Full Review

“bristol evans store ---see Julius if you can”

Written on: 18/07/2011 by suebrowne (1 review written)

We had occasion to visit the store three or four times in one week, at various times of the day and at times when the store was incredibly busy. In particular, Julius was an immense help in selecting and advising two complete beginners about which bike to buy. It was no trouble for us to try various models, ensuring that each bike we tried was set up according to our needs. His knowledge and experience was very useful, making us consider things that we had not thought of. Whilst we primarily… Read Full Review

“Terrible delivery service and how product arrived, but...”

Written on: 17/07/2011 by returneemtb (1 review written)

I ordered my new MTB (Specialized Hardrock Disc 2011) through the Evans store in Nottingham, excellent service (Robert W) very thorough and friendly. Then the problems began, I had ordered my bike to be delivered home as I live quite a way from the store. After being promised both verbally and through Evans' literature that I would be kept up-to-date throughout the entire process and the delivery of my new bike, I heard nothing for over a week. (Advertise a 5-7 day delivery time!!) I then rang… Read Full Review

I had the same trouble with the exact same bike only a couple of days ago but I ordered mine through Tredz online. Two weeks later when it finally arrived (in afternoon) I had all the problems that you had with your bike, the chain issue really pi**ed me off and on top of that it came with no allen key, they said there would be one in the box to make adjustments but no there was none, it is getting returned tomorrow but I am really disappointed after everything to be returning it I was hoping to be up and riding on the thing!!!

Since you've gone through simillar online with the same bike what would you advise? I was oddly enough debating buying it from Evans after having no issues with them in the past but then after reading this I think I will have to change my mind and think of somewhere else to get it. I live in Scotland and am not near bike stores where I live.

“did the wrong job on my bike and didn't consider it...”

Written on: 05/07/2011 by usb_milan (1 review written)

I've bought my bike from Evans, which was fine, and have also been in for a couple of other things without problems. Yesterday, I asked to have one of the inner tubes replaces and also wanted to buy some brake pads to replace myself. A few hours later I picked up the bike with new brake pads and no new tube. Assistant says the receipt says the service was for a tyre, so not their fault. Fair enough, but I wouldn't have bought the brake pads if I was asking for them to be replaced by the shop… Read Full Review

Although I purchased mail order, I visited the Bristol store to explain the problem, and only took the computer itself , having left the fittings on the bike.I was served by Oliver who was incredibly helpful despite the unorthodox approach by me ,and hitting some gremlins re the original Order. At one stage he had to get authority from the Manager and both were most willing to assist. “Evans online orders”

I ordered a bike carrier late April. I was sent the wrong (used) carrier. I returned the item and a replacement was ordered. The second carrier to arrive was half complete. I was unfortunate in that another cyclist hit me at a set of lights and broke the mech hanger for my Lemond Versailles Road bike. The bike was purchased from Evans so despite having received lousy service from them before I bit my lip and went to them for the part and to check the bike over for other damage. I saw Evans had a bad review, but really, they are alright. When they have things in stock, their usually with me in a couple of days, and i couldnt ask for more. Its vital, with Evans, that you shop around and use their price check service. I was wise, and took full advantage of one of their deals on their fb page, which gave (for one day only) a £10 gift card for every £5 order. This looks crazy, but yes, they were stupid enough to do it, and i was clever enough to put in 4 different… Read Full Review

“First Free Service”

Written on: 06/06/2011 by seamanm (1 review written)

Hi. I recently took my two boys bikes in for their free first service (a GT Avalanche 3.0 and Specialised Hotrock 24). The shop is at York, approximately 20 miles away and I delivered them on Monday evening (thanks for late opening hours). I got a call the next day to say they were ready but when I picked them up that evening I noticed that very little, if anything, had been done. As it was late I went straight home and checked the bikes and found the following faults; the tyres are still… Read Full Review

Hi I saw a bike on the web site 5 May 2011, i called my local store in Leeds and they took a £50 deposit for the bike. They told me it was the last bike in the UK and was in the Wandsworth store they would call and reserve it. I waited for a day to be contacted but no i had to call them, i was told the bike was taken off sale and placed in the back of the shop waiting for shipping, i thought a phone call would take a matter of minutes but they took a day. I went to the store with my husband to get advice on a bike & very quickly got recommended the Pashley. I do love it but we both felt that the sales person was quick to sell me the most expensive bike of that type. I arranged to collect the bike but when I arrived (late) I was told it was built but not tested as it had been wrongly booked in for a week later & 'they were doing me a favour' fitting it in-when I finally collected it was 2.5 hours after the arranged time making me very late… Read Full Review

So, I called the after sales line but could only get through to a monosyllabic moron, "What you want?".

I explained and after about 10mins on the phone he came back, "Not sent yet".

When I asked what should be done all he could come up with was,

I decided to use Evans online service as the style of bike I wanted is not readily available in the netherlands, and are overpriced where they are available.
I will give credit where it is due, the bike was delivered, and it was the correct bike that arrived. That is where my satisfaction ends.

The bike is obviously a previously returned item as there are scratches to the paintwork - this itself is not an issue as it was a sale item and they really aren't that bad.

My first purchase from Evans Cycles and I visited Leeds Central store. The service was patient and polite. It took a long time to choose shoes as trial and error and long trips to the stockroom showed that my first choice was not in stock and we had to go through numerous other (more expensive) options.
