Looked online for a pair of base layers (HH). Found the website very helpful as the reviews can most of the times lead you in the right direction when you're uncertain on which item to get.
Delivery was prompt, no issues there. The problem was, whoever packed it, completely forgot to take the security tags on!!...needless to say no matter how urgently I needed to use them I couldn't. Spent a good few months looking about for a new Hardtail bike, kept coming back to Evans. Great website with detailed specs on each item and customer reviews to help. Bought the bike online [Fuji Tahoe 2010] which was on a superb discount and found I was able to use Paypal [great news]. Living on a Scottish island I'm used to the so called 'free' delivery being declined....but here I was pleasantly surprised to find it was still free. Purchased a Womens Specialized Tactic Helmet in the Reading store yesterday (2nd April 2011). After a little debate on my sizing, I settled on a medium helmet. The price and pre-sales service were very good but the whole experience of buying a new bike was ruined when I got home and found the front wheel flat with a puncture in my boot. This isn't a major problem but it leaves a sour taste when I know the shop knew about it before I handed the money over: they were inflating the wheel when I arrived and gave me some twaddle about it needing extra air. ordering from evans cycles and expecting them to get an order of 2 wheelsets right and on time was one of the most time consuming a biggest buying mistakes of my life. Apparently when ordering a carbon shimano dura ace wheelset, they think it is a good idea (or a cheeaper alternative to them) to ship an overseas customer a shimano deore mountain bike wheel instead. Various emails have been exchanged, some telling me that item is out of stock and others telling me that they are awaiting item being returned to the warehouse from one of their shops. Just received another email today stating this is what has happened but that it takes up to 14 days for it to be returned and 3 to 5 days for delivery. I visited the West End store today to buy two Brooks trouser straps and a Brooks tool bag. I was pleased to see the first trouser strap box was marked £10.99 so I bought two and the tool bag which was £54.99. I was charged£84.97. I popped in to Evans Cycles Spitalfields yesterday to buy a bike. I was deciding between a 2010 Pinnacle (on special) and a 2011 Specialized. They're pretty comparable bikes but the sales assistant was great at explaining the differences in spec. I finally decided on the much cheaper Pinnacle. The sales assistant then helped me select everything else I wanted - lock, mudguards, pannier rack etc.

After reading the reviews on this site I was very nervous. I placed my order on Tuesday, received a phone call Thursday evening advising delivery on Friday. The bike arrived Friday afternoon undamaged. On inspection the bike was spotless and had been set up correctly. I was impressed with the included purpose built tools and adjustment instructions.
Overall it was a very smooth purchase with no problems.

A bad experience; firstly i am friendly and not picky in any way. I purchased the Crosstrail and was overall happy with it, expecting to replace the seat no problem. The free service, I was told at the time of purchase; they were busy and to have it done a lot later. Ok! I said, no problem. I haven't used it much anyway. I purchased my bike from Evans for £600, so when I got a flat tyre i took the opportunity to get a service as well. I was told one price when I dropped the bike in - £39 (£10 cheaper than normal price as single speed bike). After I got my bike back I was charged £49. I wanted some tyres which only a few retailers seem to stock. I thought Evans would offer good customer service (being a large company).

Firstly I tried to price match with another site, my price match request was rejected as the price of the tyre with postage on the competitors site was the same as theirs. That would be fine if I was equipping a unicycle with a tyre, but most bikes have at least two wheels (three on a trike).

“I took my bike to Evans Cycles for a special offer...”

I took my bike to Evans Cycles for a special offer 'Winter Chain clean' at £10. They told me I needed serious work, a new chain, a new cassette, complete overhaul of chainset and gears and a stage 1 service altogether about £170. I took my, not yet 2 year old bike, elsewhere and they said there was nothing wrong with the chain, the chainset, the cassette or gears.
