Thomson 160. Worked great for a year, until the warranty ran out. Now wont record. Emailed Thomson, but just ignored. Will not be purchasing another. Worst bit of kit I've ever bought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same thing happened to my nieces, out of warranty same thing. Cynically are they programmed to do this???

Worked brilliantly for the first three months, but since I started deleting stuff to make room for new, the Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder has been getting progressively worse - freezes every day or so necessitating switching off at the mains, and playback of recorded programmes very jerky. Drops odd words from "live" programmes and words disconcertingly out of sync.
Can't find purchase evidence or would create a fuss, but thinking about junking it. (read more)

I don't think I've sucessfully fully recorded anything since I bought this Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder a few months ago. I've found that either it doesn't record anything at all (and crashes when you try to view it) or it misses the end/beginning of a program, or it misses the entire program.
As well as this, it seems to crash constantly. (read more)

My Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder was OK for first 10 months (untill disk gets full). Easy to use.
After having the box for 18 months we now have no recording space even though there are only about 30 hours of recorded programs on the library.
There is no way of re-formatting the disk and recovering 'lost' disk space. I cannot record anything at present even though I've deleted previous recordings. The box keeps 'hanging'.

We bought the Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder as at the time it was the only digibox that recorded one channel while yo were watching another. Where do I start? On the second box. My Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder has a slow response times
Regularly misses recording for no apparent reason.
Overheats and the fan is very load.
The box reserves some memory for the top up tv so you dont actually get 160gb, more like 80gb.
Often freezes when changing channel, deleting items from memory, watching recodings, etc.
The Top up tv product is not value for money, stick with sky/cable. if I hadn't lost my receipt, I would have taken it back. (read more)

The series link record facility stopped working for no apparent reason, then suddenly started again, just before its terminal death.
Very poor piece of kit, for nearly £100, I would expect a lot better.
I would certainly expect it to last longer than just over 12 months. (read more)

Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder - Had this top up box 16 months, suffered various software/corrupt program issues etc, phone calls made(expensive), problems solved. Started to get more and more problems missed recordings etc, came home today and red light is flashing, another phone call and....sorry sir it's broke,unrepairable,the memory is scrambled,we can sell you a new one for £99, but it's not that old I replied, it's over a year old sir came the reply...are you getting my drift.... Looks good, but sometimes jumps back when fast forwarding during adverts. I'm happy with it, although I need a new remote after my grand daughter has sent it to far far away land, so if you know where i can get one, please tell me. (read more)

Personally been very unhappy with my freeview box, lost count of the amount of times it freezes up, loses recording and crashes. Loads of corrupted recordings, worst piece of kit I have owned. The hard drive spins continually and the fan is deafening, especially when used in the bedroom. Have moved to Sky+ and this Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder is going on ebay! (read more)

If this machine actually worked for me it'd be pretty good. It doesn't so instead it's not. Probably the worst piece of kit I've so far personally bought. Crashes at least three times a day for me and has to be rebooted at the mains, misses recordings blah blah blah... essentially read almost any other review on here and you'll get the idea it seems. I have had a Thomson recorder for over a year and had no problems,except for sometimes it jumps back when you fast forward,I have actually bought another one and we had a picture jumping problem to start but after a call to them and a reset of the drive it was sorted out.I was glad to see a favorable response last week saying it was alright.
The fan is not very noisy on mine.

bought this 250g box in november,kept crashing and having to re-boot, drove me mad, so phoned help line and they were very helpful giving me advice.. Since then it has only crashed once and i knew how to sort it apparently it happens when programmes run out of sink or the digital waves get corrupted
Now its sorted would buy another its not the box fault all the time its the digital aspect does not seem noisy to me can hear the fan close up but not sat in chair

Many lock ups meant it needed to be switched on and off frequently which although annoying enough in themselves, probably also brought about its early demise.

This is the worst thing i have ever bought. It crashes all the time, corrupts recordings, misses recordings, screws up messages about recording conflicts, skips to the beginning when fast forwarding and rewinding. Every software update fails to fix any of the issues. Avoid at all cost. (read more)

Just forget they ever made this one and do what I should have done at first and look at peoples reviews. Does not last long before things start to go wrong with it, im my case anyway. I have just returned my third one and wont be getting another Thomson . First it keeps freezing and you have to keep unplugging it . Some times works. Then you have trouble with recording . It starts missing out words and jumping about which completely drives you mad. I could go on for ever but I wont bore... (read more)

Have had two of these and refused another replacement. Just complete waste of time and money. Help line no use - just costs a fortune to call them . Very unreliable. Wouldn't have another if you paid me. (read more)

I would not by another one. Keeps stopping which means you have to pull out the power cable. Having had it for just over a year it has now had a complete software failure which now means it is totally useless. (read more)

Noisy fan in background all the time. Non-recording of selected programmes. Staccato speech and picture unable to watch. Keep having to turn off st mains and then on again, sometimes solves the problem sometimes not. You cannot obviously do this prior to recording if you are out.
Tesco have offered us a refund and we were unsure whether to buy another of this make.
We originally had a small thomson digi-box which doesn't record and the signal is fine with that equipment. (read more)

Failed recordings with no explanation as to why
Fast forward and it returns to an earlier part of the recording
Rewind live tv does not return to beginning, freezes completely when fast forwarding. Phoned technical help line several times and only advice each time was to unplug and reboot the machine, you do not want to be doing this every time there is problem which I had many, I found this machine to be very unreliable and frustrating at best.
