As with other reviews since around 8-9 May 09 the Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder box has had a mind of its own, previously able to factory reset by going into menu / set up / help - then press green button and select factory reset, But since the dates mentioned earlier it no longer responds to the green button hence no reset...wish I could find a fix for it or it is now just a piece of junk… Read Full Review

I have had my thomson 160gb digital box for just under 3 years now and can confirm that I have had the general issues that others have mentioned. Just this month there was a corupt file download from TopUp TV which has put the majority of boxes into constant standby mode. There is a quick fix process on the Topup TV web site; however it is not guaranteed to fix all boxes. I have just had a Free replacement sent at the weekend and all is well again.....so far… Read Full Review

Same as all recent posts - Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder has just stopped working and no amount of re-starts will get it going again. Always has problems - will not buy another Thomson product. No wonder the company needs bailing out by its banks!… Read Full Review

kept needing to be disconnected from power supply. during may 09 something appears to have happened overnight most likely during the daily upload and it now no longer functions at all. tried to find contact details in manual, they are only interested in selling more services not in technical support. tried to contact top tv but only got as far as holding on the phone for a couple of minutes before they disconnected the call. i would not buy top up tv again or thomson products… Read Full Review

Had my Thomson tv recorder system since August 2008 and its just crashed totally this time. Can't reset it like I normally do and it now has lots of lights flashing but won't switch on. Does the job when it works, but has been getting worse recently. Wish I had seen some of these comments before I bought it, because it looks like everyone has been having the same problems… Read Full Review

As many others: the thompson 160gb digital recorder jumps back when fast forwarding, missing recordings, missing start or endings of programs, and freezing when deleting off the library. (Apparently in the menu where you can see the card info, press green for reset or hard disk format).
It sometimes stays on standby, which means turning power off and on for reboot. This results in coming on for about a minute or so, then turning off again.
I've now had the machine start flashing, and not turn… Read Full Review
This Thomson digital TV recorder thing has crashed on me three times within the last 9 months! On each occasion I have lost all the recorded programmes from the hard disc. First time was able to exchange for a new one but subsequently have had to phone help line and be talked through a factory reset. A complete faff.
I wouldn't recommend this to anybody even if it is cheap it's not worth the continued hastle of sorting problems out… Read Full Review

Was bought the Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder as a present, have had several problems with it. Firstly it freezes while watching a recorded program this can be a problem if recording a program at the same time. Programs recorded become corrupt and a phone call rectified this, new what to do the next time. Today was watching a program that had been recorded only for it to freeze again, tried the usual but it now seems to be locked in standby mode and will no longer come on… Read Full Review
It always misses recordings I have set over night on my Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder. It never works. Its a pile of JUNK!!!!
Also it says you can choose which frequency you want for each tuner, when ever I change the frequency to the best strength it just goes straight back to the one with no signal. I'm not sure if its me or the machine but I can never set the frequency to stay where I want it to.
Also I had to purchase a signal booster to stop the picture from jumping and freezing, we… Read Full Review

Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder is easy to use and nicely designed - I bought mine quite cheaply at Tesco and it was actually cheaper than a freeview set top box alone. Sounded promising - but: from November 2007 when I bought it there were the occasional problems - missing recordings, freeziing, resetting etc.
The Top Up TV started downloading content I didn't want and couldn't stop, such as the Lottery results and instructions on how to use the recorder. A bad decision on their part I… Read Full Review

I bought my first Thomson 160gb digital TV recorder about a year ago and right from the word go it was missing recordings and freezing mid playback. So eventually I parted with it (losing all i had already recorded) for a replacement. I hoped that it would have sorted the problem. This one is no more reliable than the first. I figured I'd just have to learn to live with it. At least I can just use it as a freeview recorder, and opt out from buying Top-up TV.
Then they recently updated the… Read Full Review
