“If you are into airgun hunting with a springer, then...”

Written on: 25/09/2002 by M.. (1 review written)

If you are into airgun hunting with a springer, then nothing will come close to a Webley Patriot in .25cal. Just blasts any creature you are supposed to hunt with an airgun.
Never mind whether it is that tiny head shot. Just hit the animal/bird, and it's dead. As other reviews suggest, a Theoben gas ram conversion is available, so no more arguments about how long the spring will last (it will probably outlast the purchaser) but with the gas ram, cocking effort will climb to 55lbs. Excellent… Read Full Review

“The Webley Patriot/Kodiak is a great gun but it...”

Written on: 03/09/2002 by Frood. (1 review written)

The Webley Patriot/Kodiak is a great gun but it requires more care than some (both maintenance and shooting technique). Because of its weight, it's sensitive to bumps and jars. As with all spring-air guns never slam the breech shut or -shudder- pull the trigger with the breech open. The Patriots massive spring WILL bend the barrel. If you use a scope, get a good scope. This gun will turn most scopes into pretty paperweights. Make sure your scope is rated for super magnum airguns. Recoil is a… Read Full Review

1/2 inch group at 50 yards is not possible with a springer.

“I consider the Webeley Patriot to be the finest,...”

Written on: 28/07/2002 by NS.. (1 review written)

I consider the Webeley Patriot to be the finest, spring-piston, .25 caliber break barrel air rifle around. It's power is in the 27-30ftlb range, and it features remarkable accuracy out to beyond 50 yards. It is capable of taking most types of North American small game and varmnits. Even coyotes could be despatched at under 30 yards with proper shot placement. It's quality is unequalled for it's astonishingly low price of $430, making it, in my opinion at least, the best big bore air rifle… Read Full Review

I own an aa310 and a pro sport. both fac rated. A friend of mine has rapid 7 hw77 hw80 22 rimfire all on ticket.
He bought a Webley Patriot air gun secondhand. Whilst it was fairly consistant over the crono it was rubbish beyond 30 yds - too much recoil. I tried it and found it to be the same. There are many good, high powered springers out there now. Dont buy one of these. They're rubbish, full stop… Read Full Review

Kukareku's Response to 28610_jimbo.'s Review

Exactly! What is the point of having a high power springer if it is only good for 30 - 40 yards? 12 foot-pound air rifle will do it. It's not the power what kills; it's accuracy!

I back you up on this because the gun is no good beyond 30 yards and I haven't got a bad shot but it is not as accurate of some of the guns I've shot plus I have to set my sights every time I use it because of it's recoil. It's power is nice but every thing else is an all time low!

I am no super fan of this air rifle but the patriot does deserve better than that. It has got a large amount of recoil on it but I think you may find that you haven't had enough practice shooting air rifles. The recoil is very different from that of a rimfire. I've only had one session with a friends patriot at my local club and although I wouldn't give it 5 stars it's not too bad. Apart from the weight and the kick it shoots inch spreds 45 yards. That's not as bad as some rifles I've shot. Oh its a lot of cash too!

Written on: 25/05/2002 by sam. (1 review written)

The Webley Patriot air gun never failed to impress me, whether I was shooting through 1 inch pine or shooting empty shot gun shells at fifty yards.
The gun does require a firm grip for good accuracy and a test to determine the most accurate pellet but the gun will shoot any thing from #3 buck shot to beeman kodiak in to a half inch group at thirty yards, except beeman's laser pellet or any pellet with a flat head and light wieght.

Velocity, the gun would shoot cromagnum pellets at 695 fps and… Read Full Review

Written on: 21/05/2002 by Lloyd. (1 review written)

I read the other reviews and laughed. Has anyone who owns a Patriot ever shot anything else? In all my time of shooting I have never shot a worse high powered rifle. Accuracy is a joke, never produces what webley claimed ( 30ft/lbs) most produce 20-22 . Try a Air arms pro-elite at 22ft/lb , it will blow a patriot into the dust. Maybe thats why Patriots have been selling in the UK for less than £100 secondhand ?… Read Full Review

35532_Roland.'s Response to 24160_Lloyd.'s Review

Written on: 30/08/2002

The first time I shot the webley patriot i was surprised that i could not hit the broad side of a barn ten yards away. It took me some time to understand my follow trough was not addecuate for the high powered spring. Now, one year later I shoot 1" groups at 45 yards, often less with kodiaks/barracudas. The spring does deteriorate after a while, after one year it shot 22 ft/lb. Just installed a theoben gasram, now it shoots a nice 28 ft/lb an 'locktime' is considerably reduced making my follow trough addecuate to accomplish even smaller groups. Musts for Patriot/Kodiak are: HEAVY pellets, good shooter, possibly theoben gasram for better consistency.

Trade's Response to 24160_Lloyd.'s Review

Written on: 10/06/2004

Lloyd doesnt own a Patriot, but he owns a gunshop. Why do you think Patriots have been discontinued? Why do you think Webley have actually admitted there is a power and accuracy issue? Patriots are and always were one of the worst FAC power guns made. Accuracy was worse than a 12ft/lb basic webley springer, Webley always had problems with the power. Gas ram conversions do make a big difference but to say a standard Patriot is good really is taking the biscuit

Frood,
I could not agree with you more.
Any export patriot only getting 20 ft lbs should
be looked at by an airgun pro. Something wrong???

57034_Frood.'s Response to 24160_Lloyd.'s Review

I would have to say that there's something wrong with Lloyds aim or something wrong with Lloyds Patriot. I've owned about a dozen air guns and yes, I've used and owned more accurate guns but not many and none of them could match the combination of power and accuracy of the Patriot.
I will repeat what I stated in my own review:
If you want a lightweight gun with low recoil, you shouldn't be considering the Patriot/Kodiak. However, if you want a dead on accurate gun with exceptional knockdown power, learn to shoot the Patriot/Kodiak properly. You will not be disappointed.

I am afraid i disagree with your review, immensely. All my life i have been shooting air guns for a sport and won many a competion. Currently i own 5 different guns including the gamo hunter 440 which really is no comparison to the webley. I have to say i firmly disagree with your review on the webley patriot. The patriot's accuracy is like no other and its power is unmatched. Its versatility is limited only by its weight which is necessary to control the recoil given off by a gun powerful enough to require a shooters permit in the UK.

I have been hunting with a patriot for three years now, and I could not be happier with it.
As far as energy goes I get about 27lbs with my theoben conversion. My groups are around .5" at 30 yards. You are complaining about low energy, but I believe the UK has a law limiting energy does it not?

The Webley Patriot air rifle has been held within my family for 22 years.
We hold the .22 version. It is accurate and easy to hold. It is also easy to reload with the break barrel. For its age it is in good condition and shows that it can be easily maintained. I give this rifle an overall rating of 9/10… Read Full Review

You´ve had a Patriot for 22 years? Amazing!

You must be the only one in the world that has owned a Patriot that long.

All the rest of had to wait until about ten years ago when the Patriot became availiable on the market.
