Used max blonde and my hair did go ok then started yo fall out. Bleach dying has no warnings of this on it. Now have to wear wig at young age. Don't use these products. Or you will loose your hair.

“what even happened?!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by emlyberry on 20/05/2013

I have naturally dark/medium blonde hair with both ashy and reddish tints to it and I wanted an easy way to lighten my hair all over. Schwarzkopf was my first choice as I thought it was a good branded and had great results from previous shades however I have not been more disappointed. My hair has actually darkened from this dye and gone yellow on the roots and a very bright orange on the ends. I even used a slightly longer time to do it. Please don't buy this and seek professional advice first if you were considering lightening your hair.

“Sunburst YELLOW”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SunburstYellow on 12/03/2013

My hair was dirty blonde before this. Now, it looks like I have YELLOW hair. I mixed everything correctly and used the anti-brass conditioner. I swear I think the conditioner ADDED MORE YELLOW TO MY HAIR. I am embarrassed and have to go buy a DIFFERENT BRAND of hair dye tonight to fix this mess. I will, regardless, be buying a blue/purple toner from Sally's tomorrow to try to counter all the YELLOW this put into my hair. Totally bummed. Needed a pick me up. Got a huge downer. :( I'm sorry if you're reading this review after you've already made this mistake. I'm going to go buy the Revlon Platinum Highlighting Frost & Glow to use all over for color. I might add another highlight in in a week or two. I can't believe how much my hair sucks right now.

“XXL absolute platnum the Truth! ”

★★★★☆

written by Jadeylou21 on 15/02/2013

I have been using this product on my hair and roots for a year now I am a natural warm light brown as you may know warm colours are particularly hard to get a platnum colour, but I have never had any problems with this product it brings my hair to a lovely light blonde, yeah it kills your hair abit only if you keep going over the same bits again, (one time application for 45-50 mins even tho it says 30-45 on the box another 5mins won't hurt) a one time application on natural undyed hair wont leave your hair fried or crappy its if you overuse and abuse the product thats when your hair dies, before I went blonde I used to dye my hair red and used colour b4 to lift my hair to a light gingery brown, then i used green based light brown dyes on my hair before i could touch it with any bleach, the trouble with se people writing these reviews are the fact they are trying to go to blonde too quickly from a dark colour, and are coming out brassy fried and horrible, its your own fault going blonde can take up to a year to achive depending on the condition and colour of your hair, these idiots give this dye a bad review your mot doing it right, after achiving nearly my natural hair colour it took me a set of foils, hair cut into a bob (best thing I ever did) and over 6 months i added more and more blonde, untill i was a true blondie, I came across this dye and have never gone back, it's a money saver and it's awesome, some of the bad reviews say they left it for 20 mins and it went ginger ? Well duh! It does state in the instructions 30-45 mins of course your hair will go ginger give it a chance, and again get hair dressing advice and be patient if you ruin your hair by simply expecting to go really light from really dark think again, it's impossible and to regular users who complain of yellowing yeah when you do your roots there is a yellow tinge from being freshly dyed some silver shampoo will get that right out, my hairs is white platnum and I love it! Thankyou XXL live !

Hi, I have a question.... I have really dark brown hair and now I'm a blonde, not as blonde as I would like so I have been thinking of using this product. My question is about my roots... do I have to use the product more than once to achieve the colour??

“Great Product, lovely colour result. Happy!”

★★★★☆

written by Bettyboop1978 on 08/10/2012

I previously had dyed dark red/brown hair, and back in May had a total bleach all over with highlights, which was fairly successful and took my hair to a mid blonde shade. Since then I had a couple more sets of highlights done but my roots were becoming a pain and I wanted to go a little lighter all over. Tried other box dyes but they always left my roots orangey and brassy looking. Was hesitant about this product due to mixed reviews, but I thought Id give it a go as its cheap and I liked the colour on the box. I just did my roots and left it on for around 45/50 minutes and it lifted my natural colour extremely well (natural colour is mid/dark brown). I put it through the rest of my hair for 2/3 minutes at the end of the process and I came out with a much lighter really nice blonde. It was quite yellowy, but I was prepared for this having read other reviews and used smashbox's 'whiter shade of pale' purple toner on it for 20 minutes and the result is a lovely light all over blonde. The condition of my hair is far better than if I had used a bleach, quite shiny in fact!(and my hair is weakened anyway so not in the best of condition). Its left my hair shiny and vibrant and the colour I want, plus this dye will save me ££££'s on going to the salon to get my roots done! I love it, just ensure you have a toner or at least some purple shampoo and conditions (I use a touch of silver) to tone the yellow. All in all, fab!:)

I love this colour i initially used the max blonde to do my hair with used about 3 boxes to get me blonde.. not a problem and then i used platinum and it went brighter blonde but was still kinda brassy.. again not a problem the reason people on here have orange or brassy hair is because they dont tone it.. you can get something called colour effects conditioning colour 8:1 cool blonde to use after to get rid of the brassy-ness or use colour endure violet shampoo.... YOU WILL NEED TO USE TONER!! so dont just write bad reviews actually research what you need to do to get blonde hair before you just think hmmm ill go blonde..

I love this product!! i got told it turns hair gingery golden and was a very bad blonde hair dye but i wanted golden gingery hair so i used it but i got bleach blonde hair!! And my hair was mousey brown to start with, i grew to like the bleach blonde but put a golden shade on it, i would recommend using it twice over if you want a proper platinum colour i dont think it will work on all first time but my hair was so vibrant and light!!! I have used it many times since, good product x

“It works!”

I have naturally mousey hair which i had previously highlighted with bleach and used a box of perfect ten blonde on. I wanted a brighter blonde so i got XXL Absolute Platinum. I needed to use two boxes on my shoulder-length, fine/medium hair. This dye is really effective, I look like a totally different person! It's very bright, very very pale shiny blonde. There is some yellowness and a few peachy-coloured end pieces left, so i definitely recommend buying a blue/purple toner, I got this: http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-Restore-Iced-Platinum-Hair-Toner-100ml_1262302/ - and it works great for toning down the yellows if you use it a few times and leave it on for a while! I applied the mixture to the lengths of my hair first, leaving an inch or two of roots. Then went back and did the roots afterwards. I was really glad I did, as even with this technique my roots are whiter and the ends are a bit darker. I think if I had wrapped my hair in cling-film for the whole time, this would have been near enough to platinum all over. Overall my hair is in perfect condition after using this. It smells pretty nice too. The colour restore will have something to do with that too though as it's a conditioner! Price - this was on sale for £5.50 at a few shops but I found it for a quid cheaper in B & M Bargains.

“Awesome Pre-Lightener”

★★★★★

written by on 15/08/2012

I've seen bad reviews for the product, not sure why though. So I guess partially it could be hair condition, but considering mine... I doubt it. I've died my hair constantly for the last 11 years, and it's not in the best of conditions. My guess is that the dye hasn't been mixed properly based on what people are saying. I've found that not only does the platinum blonde work well it also damages my has a hair a lot loss than conventional bleaches and leaves it the perfect shade for colouring over. If you have dark hair then it is likely to go an orangey colour, but then several applications may be needed to get the colour you want.

“Use common sense, it works!!!!”

I have used this product to HELP as part of my progression from dark brown/red dye build up, to platinum blonde. This product will not lighten your hair in one go if it's already dyed, or any darker than medium brown...none of them will!!! If your hair is already dyed, use a COLOUR REMOVER first, you can use them over and over again to remove dye build up, and this is the simplest way to strip your hair back before lightening.. and the most gentle. I used XXL Absolute Platinum AFTER removing years of reds and browns I had dyed over each other, It gave it the most powerful lift I have ever experienced from a platinum dye, and my hair is now extremely blonde, I love it! I would recommend if you want BRIGHT BLONDE/PLATINUM hair to use a toner after XXL, such as boots colour restorer - Iced platinum, or directions white toner. These are conditioning colour rinses, usually blue or violet in colour, which REMOVE BRASSY ORANGE AND YELLOW tones from lightened hair. They are also really conditioning. I use one once every few washes of my hair to maintain brightness. Schwarzkopf XXL Absolute Platinum is the strongest lightener I have ever used which did not compromise the condition of my hair. Other bleaches have had nearly the same lifting power, but my hair was critical at the ends. I would highly recommend this product as PART of the lightening process....there is no magical product that will take you from darker browns to ice blonde, you have to accept it will be a process and may take a few products, but it's do-able!!!

I bought this dye coz i always wanted to go real real blonde so when i saw the ad i decided on this one. My hair was highlighted like 3 months ago so i was kinda scared that it would turn orange or yellow or green but it actually turned out just like i hoped it would, pure blonde no yellow/orange like people are saying! Everyones hairs different i guess so u just never now how yours will turn out but thank god mine went just as i wanted it to! i would defo use this dye again coz its the blonde i always wanted but couldnt seem to get with other dyes! Oh & if u do end up getting an orange or yellow colour in your hair then u should get a shampoo with toner in it, its a purje shampoo, & it totally gets rid of the yellow or orange, just a tip! :)

written by on 08/06/2012

I just want to warn anyone thinking of buying this dye, dont do it! I saw the picture on the box and thought to myself sure i would love white blonde hair like that! I had dark blonde hair to begin with and according to the box my hair should've went extremely blonde after using it. Yeh right! If you would like to have orange hair with streaks of yellow then this is the dye for you! I didnt have colour in my hair before putting it in so i have no idea why my hair turned out the way it did, i did everything it said in the instructions! Now i have to go to the hairdressers and pay god knows how much to get my hair fixed :( This dye is nothing but pure s**t and it will ruin your haip, dont be tempted by the peroxide pair of idiots on the box! Absolute Platinum Blonde? More like Absolute Sunny Delight!

The only reason your hair went that colour was because you didn't tone it. Everyone knows that if you bleach/die your hair blonde that it will go brassy and yellow unless you either use a toner that you can buy or use a toning shampoo. I would recommend using Schwarzkopf silver shampoo because I have been using it and it instantly gets rid of the golden and brassy tones and turns them more ash blonde. To achieve the colour on the box you have to tone it, you can't just expect your hair to go white first time.

I have been dying my hair with L'Oreal Recital Preference 01 for a couple of years now. I have never used toner and you are correct it does look brassy so I just dye it every 3 weeks. Should I use one of these toning shampoos for a couple of weeks and then try the XXL Platinum dye and then keep using the toning shampoo or should I try the toning shampoo once then the dye? Completely unsure what to do and dont want ginger blonde hair. Only dye my hair blonde as it hides my very thin hair volume. thanks

There must have been some different colours in your hair or it hasn't been left on long enough. My natural hair color is Medium Brown and this blonde is the only one I've ever used that lifts my roots and gives all over lovely color of blonde

“Never again!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/05/2012

I bought this product after having used many other colours in the Schwarzkopf Live Colour XXL range. I was extremely happy with all the previous colours that I put in my hair but this one is NOTHING like them. I had my hair bleached at the hairdressers a few weeks ago and put a semi permanent red colour over it. This was then fading (and almost washed out)so I decided to use the XXL Absolute Platinum to go proper blonde. Upon dying it, the top of my hair turned bright yellow/brassy and the rest of my hair turned orange/red. As my hair is quite thick and just above the shoulder I decided to put in another box later on in the evening, as instructed on the box. BAD IDEA!! It burned my scalp!!!! So now I've been awake all night worrying about what to do .. I have yellow/brassy roots and the rest of my hair is ORANGE .. and my scalp is burned so I can't dye over it anytime soon. I might have to go to the doctors today and see if they can give me something to help the burns/stop the pain. I've never ever had any such reaction, despite dying my hair numerous times. I really don't know what to do. :( If you're thinking about purchasing this product/going blonde at home .. consider if it's really worth it!

It's because you had red hair, reds are well known for being really hard to dye light colours because they go brassy, even the semi-permanent ones, you should have bought a home colour stripper and put it on for about 10 minutes to get the red out. As for the burning scalp you should have done a skin test 24 hours before hand, which you are supposed to do with all hair colours, even the ones you have tried before, so you can't have read the box properly because it is definitely on there.

“Really works!”

★★★★☆

written by ElizaGra on 20/05/2012

I have naturally very dark brown hair, and have been thinking about going very dark blonde or light brown for months. I originally went to a salon where they refused to do an all over head colour because they claimed that it would go very brassy or very yellow, but that finely woven blonde highlights would give the same effect, as it would sort of "mix" with my natural colour. The lady gave me half-head highlights, which made my hair look an awful grey colour overall. I went home £106 poorer and with a horrible head of grey-looking hair which completely washed me out. I then made a quick trip to get some brown dye and dyed it back to a medium brown. Since that incident, I've used various packet blonde dyes which all claim to lighten hair by up to 5 levels, but I just ended up with a sort of medium to dark ginger hair with strawberry blonde where my highlights were. So, I came across this product from somebody who used it to lighten the ends of their hair to be "dip dyed", and it actually seemed to really work. I have been reluctant to use a typical bleach as I don't want to completely fry my hair or turn it white. This product really worked. I used one box and it covered my whole head, however I am not very good at applying hair dyes as I get impatient so I have a lot of darkness at the back and random patches where I put more of this on, but that is my fault. Anyway, the product brought my natural/slightly lightened hair down to a honey-gingery blonde and the roots, front and highlights to a very pale blonde. In fact, the front and roots went a mixture of white and yellowy orange, so I used a light brown dye over the top of those front bits but only left it in for 5 minutes, which gave me a good honey blonde colour. It is only very slightly brassy underneath but I haven't yet used a toner or purple shampoo which is usually recommended. I LOVE the colour and I am simply amazed at how much it lightened my hair! The colour actually looks very expensive and it seems that if I'd have left the dye on for longer or used more of it, it would have gone a very pale blonde, as I only left it on for 35 minutes but it can be left for up to 45. I would definitely recommend this for anybody wishing to go blonde but not wanting to use a dye! Also, I did a strip test first where I mixed a small amount together and did it on a small piece, and that piece went the platinum colour on the box, so if you are patient and get a friend to help you separate all your hair into tiny bits then it will go the colour on the box even from a darkish brown, I just have a tendency to wack all the dye on and hope for the best! You won't regret using this product, trust me.

“DO NOT BUY!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/04/2012

I am a male with brown hair. I wanted slight highlights. On the packaging there is a man with brown/dark brown hair with really light almost blond highlights. I bought this product and tried the first batch, nothing worked. It says on the packaging "for lighter results repeat process". I repeated eight times. The instructions do not mention the maximum amount of times you should repeat the process. My scalp started to ache with red rashes appearing. If you want a product that cost £5-£6, works nothing like described, looks nothing like the model on the packaging (probably used a real hair dye), hurts your head and takes around 1+ hours of spraying, hair drying, spraying hair drying and so on. This product is for you. Very disappointed customer.

“Utter rubbish product, really disappointed!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/04/2012

I'm really disappointed with this dye, I usually love the live xxl colours but this one failed completely. It dyed bits of my hair orange or yellow and some bits it didnt even touch even though I had massaged the colour in properly and left it on longer than what the instructions said to. I've been dying my hair for years and have never had a problem until now. Luckily I have a funky colour to stick on top of the lighter bits to make them look deliberately unusual instead of a fail-dye joke. I was so looking forward to being platinum blonde/dark brown mix!
