This machine started well, It was quiet and Spacious. Then after its warranty expired it all went belly up, Within Days the Fridge stopped working and then the Freezer. Checked online for an answer and apparently these units are can build up Ice on the Fins at the rear of the Freezer Compartment, so, with no warranty I unscrewed two Panels to access the Fridge De-icer unit. This unit had enough Ice on it to support a colony of Polar bears, It was 2" deep and 10"x10" wide, This should have automatically De Frosted itself using it's built in Heater...And as this was just out of Warranty the Lack of De-Icing ability must have started Months before or this amount of Rock solid Ice could never have built up. After that It needed De_Iced Manually about every 6 weeks..heavens knows where all that ice came from, The door seals were fine etc. As the Ice Builds up the Rattles start, sounded like an old Biplane. Even the Build quality was poor, the various Caps and Covers to the rear of the unit never fitted right at any point. So unless you want Thawed out Ice(water) all over your floor dont buy a unit like this. The new Hotpoints of a Similar Size look the same. I would never ever buy another Hotpoint Fridge Freezer again, I had a Zanussi Fridge freezer that Lasted 20 years and that was 2nd hand when I bought it...yet hotpoints only lasted about 2 years..a Nightmare machine. I'm now Buying a Daewoo....at least if it jiggers up after its 2 Years warranty at a Price of £219.00 I'll not feel so bad.

Dreadful fridge freezer. All food freezes in the fridge especially veg, this is on the 'holiday' setting. Ice builds up in the bottom of the freezer, constant puddles of water on the kitchen floor, the door seals are ripped and all the drawers are broken. Don't ever buy Hotpoint. What a waste of money!!!!

We have had the fridge freezer over a year now and have had no problems apart from the plastic ridges that the freezer drawers run on are breaking up and you can see the inards of the appliance there is only my wife and I so it is not getting enough use to cause that much damage. I feel riped off as we paid a pretty penny for cheep rubbish

I have suffered similar problems as others. From time to time the fridge becomes warm and I have learned through reviews that the best solution is to empty completely and turn off for 24 hours. I bought this fridge freezer because I didn' want the hassle of defrosting it!! Big mistake!! Steer clear.

The amount of time I have wasted sorting this damned fridge out is ridiculous, and the amount of money I have wasted because of the fridge being warm and ruining food is also ridiculous. I hate my fridge freezer and will NEVER EVER buy anything hotpoint again. Anyone thinking about hotpoint because it's on offer, don't do it! Pay a bit more money and get something that won't let you down. Gone are the days when you bought a fridge freezer that would last you a decade, it seems now you have to replace every few years. BOO hotpoint, you suck!!!

Same as many others, a complete nightmare, steer well clear unless you want to become a dab hand at stripping down a so called frost free freezer to defrost it. Well done Hoover

Had it for a few years now. Two times engineers have been out and "fixed" it... Now it's done it again - a puddle on kitchen floor. After doing some research, it appears that it's a very common problem with it. The drain hole get blocked with ice, and a ice block is build up around the evaporator behind the freezers back panel. When you buying a 'Frost free' fridge freezer, you don't expect it to build an excess of ice instead. This is definitely a construction fault, looking at how many people who reports exactly the same problem (just search for it on the internet and you will see). If Hotpoint really had good customer service, the engineers should have been able to sort the problem out. Not just clean out the ice... Not recommended, unless you like puddles on the kitchen floor that is.

Iv no idea what anybody is complaing about with this frost free freezer as me & the wife have had this machine for over 4 years & love it, we don't overfill it we clean it when it needs cleaning & we have no problem with ice build up at all, we would definitely recommend this freezer to anybody who is looking for a freezer for there home, this was our 1st appliance for our new home & the best yet, Deep spacious freezer draws, wine or juice rack, veg boxes, 3 glass selves, indoor selves, great graphite colour, a really good bargain at a price of just over £500. I hope this little bit of info has helped you in making your choice

First one replaced under warranty within 3 months after the interior of the freezer fell apart due to not being correctly filled. The second one last just beyond warranty before the same fault occurred and the much mentioned ice build up led to us having a heating element fitted to keep the drain clear. Absolute garbage. Won't touch Hotpoint or Indesit again.

Purchased ff187E around 2 year ago, first time i opened freezer draw, fell down smashed glued it back together.the wife wasnt happy :( started making some seriously loud bangs and clicks.. fridge has stoped working this week and ice on the floor of the freezer, and a pool of water on the floor the past few days. glad iv read all the reviews saves me time and money for now, gonna tackle the ice build up behined the freezer pannel and take some pics and send them right up the **** of hotpoint and im thinking of taking them to a small claims department for the consumable...hotpoint more like coldpoint the ********.

We have had ours for around 2 years. In the last year i have had to ditch well over what the unit cost us tn wasted food as the fridge section keeps stopping. As everyone else here is stating this is caused by ice building up in the freezer. The fridge cools by air being drawn from the freezer and blown into the fridge compartment. This has 2 design flaws, the first is the ice build up, frost free really means frost not visible as its hidden behind panels so its usually too late by the time you notice the temperature drop and the alarm sound to do anything about. The second flaw is putting food in the fridge can block vents or restrict air flow at the rear of the shelves. This has 2 problems, food close to the vents can freeze and food say in the fridge door stays a little lower than room temperature. Our unit has to be defrosted about once a month to make it operate normally. I sometimes wonder who tests these products after design, the manufacturer or consumer? Although I have had decent working goods from hotpoint in the past this is a letdown and needs sorting either with a recall or replacement!

I totally agree with this and many other poor sods who have had the misfortune to buy one of these totally useless and unreliable appliances. I have just wasted a fortune throwing food away that was ruined. Never again. I could of course sell the machine on, but I am going to get great pleasure taking a hammer to it. This is one Hotpoint Future 187L that will not be costing anyone anything again.

If not Hotpoint were aware of this they should have sent out a Recall to all owners..to late for me though, I got rid of mine and bought a Daewoo.
This hotpoint has cost me a premature purchase of a replacement FF..I truly loathe Hotpoints now.

I have had Hotpoint appliances over many years but the last two (FF187E fridge freezer and Washer/Dryer) have been worse than lemons. How do they get away with it? So many - it must be most every one - have this problem! I have had it taken care of twice and it is happening again. I will have to replace it but it will not be with a Hotpoint that is for sure.

I have had the same problem as numerous reviewers, with ice forming in the freezer comparment. After 3 years it looks as if I shall have to buy a new fridge freezer,(NOT A HOTPOINT). I have had to take inside back panel and fan assembly out 4 times and then go to work with a hair-dryer to remove the large chunks of ice forming over the drain hole. Hotpoint should by now admit that this is a design fault an compensate owners for lost food and man hours to clear the fault. This is the second F/F I have had from Hotpoint, the first had a wiring problem where the thermostat was wired wrongly,ie when the thermostat was increased to reduce the temperature, it was in fact increasing the temperature, so all the food in the freezer was defrosting. This took 3 service calls before they found out that a batch of their F/F had the same fault. As for compensation, this was not forthcoming as I had not kept the spoilt food, so HOTPOINT didnt believe me. NEVER AGAIN

I have the same problem as everone else with this machine. Water runs out the freezer door with ice building up on the floor of the freezer and finally the fridge does not work. Remove the internal panels of the freezer to find the huge ice build up which blocks the vents to the fridge stopping the cold air getting there.Defrost the unit and everything is ok for a couple of months. I have now been told that the problem is with a faulty thermister not working and thus stopping the freezer from auto de-frosting. This can be sorted by re-programming the electics to de-frost on a timed schedule. Is this true or not ????or just bull. After reading many reports regarding this machine has anyone resolved this very common fault.

Have had the fridge freezer for 3 years and for the third time now my husband has had to take the panel off and defrost it with a hairdryer. I certainly won`t be buying Hotpoint fridge freezer again or a hotpoint washing machine as this was bought at the same time and that leaks at times .

Same problem as every has already mentioned, i.e.: * Food freezing up in the fridge WHEN the fridge works * Building up of ice at the bottom of freezer compartment. Removed 5.2kgs!!! of blocked ice behind panel and underneath stucked drawer * Then the fridge stopped working As Hotpoint not ready to concede to a fault of the product, nor a recall, took pictures of ice blocks and taking them to small claim court. How many customers have you lost now, Hotpoint? Customer Service??? I think NOT

hi i have exactly the same problem, have you had an outcome yet maybe we should all go to watchdog and show this company for what they really are. hotpoint have told me buy a new one cos ive had this for 2 years shocking

Stylish FF but we had a similar problem as a lot of the other reviewers. The fridge freezer collects frost at the back causing it to shut down causing all my food to go off. This happened 3 times and with a baby and expressed milk in the freezer this is a disaster. We managed it a bit longer by regularly defrosting it, but that is just not practical with kids and certain items. Got rid of the FF all together and replace it with a brilliant AEG.

Hi i have just seen all the reviews on this f/f. I had this prob with mine.cleared ourselves a few times. Under extended warranty after 2nd visit was told there was a faultt and was fitted with extra wire in the back as apparently there was a fault with these as the wiring did not extend all the way down the back of the panel. Looked like a metal coat hanger. Has done the trick but if we didn't have the extra cover don't know what would have happened. Good luck with your claim
